I think it is helpful to assume that all caregivers really care. Some may be struggling to balance many demands on them, some may be ill themselves, some may be feeling burned out on the day you encounter them. Some are even extending themselves to care for someone who did not take good care of them earlier in the relationship. But still, they are providing care, whether on their own at home or with the help of other care providers in the home or a facility. I so appreciate everyone who has helped me care for my mom, including the supportive folks on this forum who really understand the dementia caregiver experience. You rock!
