Alz in Atx

Hi all – – I just joined the community today because, as many of you can understand, it’s really hard to see your loved one slip away.

My mother has had Alzheimer’s for a year or two, and recently she has been very up-and-down with what she is understanding and knowing where she is, etc. She frequently thinks her parents are alive, even though they died almost 10 years ago. at first, I resisted the comforting lies, and wanted to contradict her, but I’m starting to go with the flow and let her believe things without interfering.

She has been an independent woman for a long time since her husband passed away many years ago. Moving her to a retirement home was necessary, because it became unsafe for her to be at home, but unsurprisingly. She has not been a cheerleader for the new situation.

My mother has been a very caring woman and has always helped other people for her entire life – – she worked in special education, and always took care of those less fortunate. When she sees the dementia patients around her, she often thinks that she is at work, helping those with mental difficulties.

I just needed to connect with a few other people who are experiencing this process . Writing this out is great, but I was also hoping to talk to people who are experiencing the same process – – is there a zoom support group or something else out there?
