Moderate Sedation with MCI

I’m 51 and scored in the MCI range on a recent cognitive screening when I told a neurologist I felt like I had memory issues.

The cause is still being determined. Initial blood tests show it’s likely not Alzheimer’s, though I still have an MRI and sleep eeg. That said, my mother has Alzheimer’s, as likely my paternal grandmother did, but in their late 80s.

I have a screening colonoscopy at the end of the month. My father died of colon cancer at 64 so I think it’s important. They said they use “moderate sedation”, but I’m concerned about that given the MCI and existing memory issues.

The neurologist said the drugs used for this likely wouldn’t affect the memory loss. I’ve anecdotally heard differently and don’t want to accelerate this.

I’ve heard you can get an colonoscopy without the sedatives and that’s how much of the world does it outside of the USA. So I'm considering it.

Any thoughts or info would be appreciated ! Thanks!
