in Caring For a Spouse or Partner

Well the inevitable happened this afternoon, she took another bad fall and has a spiral fracture of her right proximal humerus (dominant arm of course). We are in the ER and awaiting transfer to inpatient hospice, this is going to require a morphine drip and pray that it’s quick from here. There won’t be any coming back from this. She keeps apologizing for ruining my day.

    It never ceases to amaze me how we have so much love for each other; your DW is sorry for spoiling your day, so much joy and sadness in such a small statement. Our feelings for each other are so deep, it’s a horrible and despicable journey and the parting is almost unbearable. Have courage and strength, may peace be with you and your DW.

    M1, I’m so sorry that you and she have had this happen so suddenly. Hopefully the morphine controls her pain, and the in-patient hospice gives you the support you need. We are all thinking of you both.

    M1, I'm so very sorry. I think your assessment is right - it's going to be hard, if not impossible to come back from this. I too hope for a painless transition.

    Oh, M1, I remember vividly when “the other shoe dropped” for me. It was a Monday morning and by Friday evening, DH was gone. Although his transition was quick, unexpected, and sad, in retrospect, it was a blessing for all of us. God’s will be done and may both of you find peace in the days to come. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
