HIghly Recommend Citicoline For Early/Mid Stage
Hi, All, My partner was diagnosed with MCI on 21018 and the diagnosis has moved now to Alzheimer's since it would not be safe for him to live by himself for an extended period of time. About a two years ago, he revisited a naturopath who recommended Citicoline to support focus and battle brain fog. We researched it ourselves and found a number of valid studies for dementia patients and no contraindication with his other meds.
So we gave it a shot after discussing with his neurologist who was not very hopeful but thought it wouldn't hurt. Well, I have to say it is a total winner! No lasting effects, but we know it is working because when he doesn't take it, it is very noticeable. So much so that I always make sure we have enough on hand and never run out. He takes it in the morning and also at 4 pm. Wanted to share since neurologists are not always interested in looking outside conventional medicine for solutions.
Anybody tried anything else like this with positive results? Would love to hear about it.
Big hug!

Hi, Watson1, my partner takes micro dose of Zoloft and that really helps him since he also has ADHD. The Citicoline hasn't added to his anxiety which is another postive. Big hug!

My two cents, a quick internet search came up with a paper published on the National Institute of Health website titled "Is Citicoline Effective in Preventing and Slowing Down Dementia?"
Here is the full conclusion at the end of the paper:
"Our results confirm the positive effects of citicoline shown in other studies, but at the same time, they show that the available evidence is of poor quality and likely to be biased. Thus, well designed, high-quality randomized clinical trials are needed to qualify citicoline use for the prevention or treatment of cognitive decline. Meanwhile, citicoline should be used according to clinical judgement and taking into account the limitations of the available evidence."0 -
I would also note that the Alzheimer's Association maintains a list on their website of Medications for Memory, Cognition and Dementia-Related Behaviors. Citicoline is not on their list.
