Happy Easter and Happy Belated Birthday Marie.

We are home and I am nursing Speck the chicken who has gone lame. Granddaughter called while we were away to say Speck wasn’t walking. So I have bathed her, dosed her up with antibiotics and vitamins and she’s in the living room. I rigged up a sling to keep her upright for a while today. She’s eating and drinking and looking around the living room 🙄❤️

    IMG_3547.jpeg

Everyone else is fine, thank goodness. I think we’ll rename this place Jeri’s Vet Hospital and Nut House.

JeriLynn, I thought Speck was a hat! It took me a while to see her face and feet. Are those mealy worms that you have for her to eat in the little bowl?

I remember being so shocked by the bombing! How could this happen in America? So so tragic!

I hope everyone will be safe from tornados, wind and flooding.

I'm having 50 mph winds and heavy rain. The severe storms are 30 mi. north of me in Buffalo and 50 mi. south in northern Arkansas. Hope Ron's son is OK, but radar is showing debris aloft.

The storm line has passed me without damage. I see no report of damage in Buffalo, and the storm line is east of there also, but the emphasis on TV is on the active storm. Some places SE of me are getting 75 mph winds and possible tornado.

I could barely see the house next door when the storm line passed, because the rain was quite heavy. It's not raining hard now, and the sun was even out for a minute or two. No power outage here since night before last.

The storm cell and possible tornado is in Mountain Grove now, about 40 mi. east of me, heading northeast. I have been passed over and, from what I can determine from TV coverage, so has Buffalo. The TV is talking about power outages south of me, so if that's the big news I think no one has had a tornado touch down. 80 mph winds are reported some places, which is bad enough, but no tornado touchdown.

I called hospice today and obtained permission from the on-call doctor to increase DW's morphine dose. She's asleep now.

I had spaghetti with tomato sauce for Easter dinner. To no one's great surprise, San Marzano tomatoes and Irish butter with an onion makes a really good tomato sauce. Thank you all for the recipe.

Glad you all are okay, Carl. Hope Ron's son is, too. There was damage south of us but none here except flooded roads. , other than the water the roads are packed from heavy rain. We had almost 4.5" of rain.. I am bushed from lack.of sleep and storm anxiety. Took a fairly short nap today and will try to go to sleep early. Did take down the trash just in case they come by to get. The sun came out aboit2 today and it has been a pretty afternoon. Always is after storms. Billy stayed in the barn but came out about 2 and is grazing in the front pasture.

The Americas is on and has been really good. Zetta, it showed some of your desert. Also showed the flooded caves in Mexico that provided water to the Mayans. Really interesting.

You all in the path of the storms, be careful.

Iris, I'll bet those eggs are delish. I grew up on free range eggs and I love them.

Speck is a lucky bird. A lot of people would have had chicken for Sunday dinner by now, as much trouble as he is. Cute bird, I wish I had a cap that looked like Speck. Minus the feet.

Sleep well, Lorita and others. I had a noisy night last night too, and I'm turning in. One lightning bolt lit up the room and thunder bounced me nearly out of bed less than a second later, so that was close!

I had Easter dinner with my friend whom I have known for about 35 years, and her family. They gave me a chocolate bunny, a lovely Easter card and a book about cats, and we took pictures. It was a nice evening.

The weather was mild today, I didn't need a jacket. I hope the rains and tornados are over!

I watched a video on YT about forgiveness. "Letting go of all of that stuff" is the key. It's a good point. Sometimes we just have to let go, because the alternative, holding on to anger and resentfulness and other strong feelings, can be so harmful.

Good morning from the front porch.

My son in Elkland, Missouri is OK. He told me that the tornado didn't hit them, just a lot of wind and rain. He is still trying to convince me to move there. He sent a picture of a small cabin that could be built on their land. He said that being close to them would be better for me. The most convincing argument was my grandchildren would visit me often.

Zetta, I have had my snap in dentures for a few months now and love not having to put that glue on them to keep them in. I probably had a longer process than you to get to this point. First was teeth removal, then upper bone graph after gums healed, then after healing post were inserted and then last step was fixing the dentures to snap in. In all it probably took close to two years.

Morning, I just heard that the Pope passed away last night. I thought he was better.

Looks like a pretty day. Ron, that's something to think about. At least you would have family close by.

Mint, what color are your tulips?I guess all the wind and rain took care of my three but they lasted a long time. I did see that the white spirea was blooming a couple of days ago. I forget it's there until it blooms. Maybe I might transplant the tree today, if I ever get up.

    Good morning.

Lorita— It's great that you keep an eye out for Darwin given Donna's progression. A few days before I got the fateful call from the hospital in FL as mom's emergency contact, I'd called the local police for a well check after 2 days of no returned calls. Dad answered the door and told police everything was hunky-dory and that mom was at the pool with friends. Turns out, she was dangerously ill in the bedroom.

Iris— That's a great attitude for this stage of life. I am often reminded that I have been granted twice the amount of time on earth as my sister was and try not to squander it. I'd love to return to travel, but mom's going to have to be more reliably stable than she has been of late. DS or my niece can step in if needed, but TBH, on the times they have it's gone sideways. Once DN took mom for an outpatient swallow study during which mom denied her history of GERD (niece has access to records but hasn't memorized them as I probably have) and DS couldn't find an office despite mom having been there 5 times in the last 2 months.

Gothic G— I'm so glad you were able to have a pleasant visit with your aunt. I was blessed with a number of aunts— some indifferent, 3 nutjobs and a couple of very special aunties. I'm down to just one— the most benign and amusing of the nutters. She and mom have become frenemies over the years; after they see one another they both call me to tell me the other one is crazy. Thing is— they're not wrong.

Loveskitties— That's a lot of graphagans in a month. Do you have time for anything else? Are these like counted cross-stitch in that you're following a count pattern and have to focus on the task? I'm kind of surprised at the persistence of Ninja Turtles as a franchise; when DS was in kindie, his class proposed them as their mascot for the next nine years. Yikes!

Zetta— I hope you are happy with the teeth once they're completed. Mom's implants went seamlessly. Posts, then 6 months later she had the permanent dentures installed. She loves, loves, loves hers.

Mine was a single incisor; the root had fractured and it was ugly getting all the bits out and there was some infection left despite taking antibiotics, so I had to wait 6 months to get the post, 6 months to get the appointment to OK the crown, a month for that letter to cross my dentist's desk, another month to do the impression, a visit to the lab to match my teeth and 3 weeks before it was installed. I was kind of salty about this as the cost was spread over 3 calendar years wasn't enough to trigger a nice tax refund.

Jerilynn— Is Speck the one who had the infected foot last time? She looks quite cozy in her chicken-jumper-roo.

Carl— I'm glad you're safe from the storms although I imagine your nerves are shot given the worry and lack of sleep. I bet the sauce was excellent given the quality of the ingredients you chose.

Mint—Wise words about forgiveness. Holding onto hurt is kind of like drinking poison and expecting the other guy to die. I try hard not to let certain people live rent-free in my head, but damn that's hard sometimes.

Judith— I imagine the bombing was especially traumatic for those who lived in the community at the time rather than experiencing via media outlets. I felt that after 9/11. I live in a bedroom community and while I didn't know-know anyone who died, there was a man I used to see on the treadmills at the gym who was killed and friends of mine knew one of the pilots from church. The actual morning was DS's first day of school at the special reading school in Princeton. It was very chaotic as the admin's husband and the husband and father of one of DS's teachers worked in the buildings. They either weren't there yet or got out, but no one knew that. We couldn't get cell service to call loved ones.

Ron— I guess you know by now whether the injection is going to offer any relief. I hope it did. Would you be open to moving? My dentist's dad did this and had the time of his life with the grands, but they were 9 on-site and the youngest hadn't even been born yet. If yours are teens, they'll probably be busy and getting ready to leave the nest.

    __________________________________________________________________________

It's warm but kind of gloomy here. We had a quiet Easter dinner just the 3 of us last night. It was sort of like the old days. The food and the company were great. Mom went to my niece's Easter Extravaganza. She didn't get home until after 9pm.

I'll call her later to find out all of the ghastly things my late sister's "ex" did. He's part of the reason I take a pass on this get together. Last hear he complained that my niece gave mom "more of the leftovers than he got". He fancies himself as something of a latter-day hippie who is always good for some interesting fashion choices starting with his long hair which is Ben Franklin-esque with his balding head.

Given mom's interest in clothing, she's generally has an amusing and scathing take on his sartorial choices. He turned up at my niece's boyfriend's funeral in cargo shorts, an open Hawaiian shirt and Reefs sandals. For his 3rd wedding, he turned up wearing what looked like an Obi Wan Kenobi costume. I'm sure I'll get an earful.

    Be safe out there today.

Everybody needs at least one ding dong BIL. I had four at various times, since DW's sisters married two each. It sure made me look good. It would be "Yes, Carl drinks a little, but Dennis got arrested for DUI."

Family is a complicated thing. If your sister's ex came dressed as the Easter Bunny, it will at least give everyone something to talk about.

lots of news to wake up to

frightening time last night…I could barely walk all of a sudden….likely my neuropathy which I naively thought was under control and would never progress. Today I will attend to my medical alarm. Just having it in the house is not going to help despite my beliefs…lol

Judith— That sounds terrifying in the moment.

Carl— I have a dipsy-doodle BIL on each side- my sister's ex and my DH's younger brother. It keeps things interesting.

LOL, my niece's husband donned the bunny costume to the amusement of the kids (and adults) attending. He's an all-around delightful human. He wanted her to dress as Mrs. Bunny, but she declined. When DS first got his job with the railroad, he got stuck as the bunny the first year. He describes the experience as hot, smelly and awkward. These days he mostly takes pictures unless he's the lead trainman doing narration.

In answer to HB's question about graphgans. Most of the ones I do involve several steps before I can even start…of course much depends on the "scene" requested.

Once I have an idea of what they want, I go on internet and look for "free" images. Then I take the selected image and put it into a free pattern making program. This some times take a lot of finegeling based on details in the image, number of colors and size.

The program gives me a graph showing each square and what color it is to be. I have to go over the chart to "clean it up" as due to shadows, etc. it will give some "stray" stitches which need to be corrected.

After all this, I take a notebook and write up the pattern showing, in sequence, how many stitches and their color…for each row. While this takes more time up front, it definitely helps when I can finally get to crocheting.

Of the 4 I recently did, I had already made 2 of them before (for greatgrands) so that decreased the time, as I already had the written pattern.

I enjoy doing most of them, but have had a few which were "one and done"…lol

We made it back home from the greater Bay Area. It was a long drive, but really pretty, lots of flowering bushes and trees. The Shasta reservoir was almost at capacity — also good!!

I was able to see my aunt on Saturday and on Easter Sunday. She's uncomfortable - she has to wear a lot of compression devices - socks, and one that goes around her body. I guess it's to help keep her blood pressure up. If she stands up too quickly, she passes out, so no more of that for her. But otherwise, she was as sharp and witty as she always was.

jfkoc - My husband is Jewish, so we at least acknowledge all of the holidays, even if we don't observe them all. There are quite a few if you add the Catholic ones to the Jewish ones.

After we had dated for a couple of years, we went to Israel. We each shared with each other the cultural and religious significance of each of the places we visited. It was a great trip.

I'm glad you're doing better now!

loveskitties - I had to look up "graphghans". I had no idea! They look really complicated …..

    JeriLynne - awww, Speck.

Carl - I'm glad the tornadoes passed you by! And glad you got to have some great spaghetti sauce.

Iris - Gotta have a chocolate bunny for Easter!

Lorita - I thought that the pope was getting better too! And I really liked this pope too ….

HB - Mint - Carl - Iris — and all about forgiveness … I tend not to be a hater. There are certainly people I don't care for, but very, very few who I actually hate. Actually, I can't think of anyone I hate.

But - I know I've written about my brother on this site more than a few times. He's done some fairly despicable things not just to me, but also to my sister post-dementia diagnosis. That was the thing I had the hardest time dealing with. It was difficult to forgive him for all of those things, but I did, and I moved on. We don't speak to each other now and I want nothing to do with him. I don't hate him though, I don't wish him ill, and I'm not angry at him anymore - he's just a non-entity to me at this point. That's about as good as it's going to get with him.

I chose Easter to forgive Tim McVey. I tried to imagine what darkness of the soul would lead a man to do such a thing, and what anguish he must have experienced when he saw what he had done. He had not destroyed faceless storm troopers of an evil government, he had murdered people in a Social Security office, children in a day care center, and others. His repentance was demonstrated when he refused all appeals that would have delayed his execution. And if I can forgive him, I can forgive myself for my sins and errors.
