Wow.. you are getting your outfit ready for your eternal journey! Have to say that to do that never crossed my mind. I do ponder burial/cremation. I want to be with Dick whose ashes rest in his flight bag upstairs. They are in his closet with his black Lucchese boots and his patent dress shoes.

Lorita…while still on the death topic, will your land be protected? My parents built the home I grfew up in but it was torn down after 65 years to make room for a really horrible house. At first I was upset but then that it was a good thig. It was a good thing. The house was our families and no one else really should have lived in it and make changes.

What is going on in Saluda is what went on here. In the midst of great tragedy the human spirit soared. Odd to say but it was uplisting.

I read somewhere that in Sweden you can decide to be chummed into fertilizer. Then your family can pour you into a hole and plant a tree. My mother thought that was a great idea and would have done it if it was legal here. What she didn't want was an open casket funeral, because she didn't want all those people looking down at her. So that's what I did. Closed casket, and her wedding picture set on top for people to look at. That's how she wanted to be remembered; a smiling young woman in her best 1944 dress, next to a smiling young man in an Army dress uniform.

About open caskets - that's exactly what one of my aunts said: she didn't want anyone looking at her. She also had a closed casket.

jfkoc - it's been so long since I've had a grilled cheese sandwich (mostly because I don't think of it), and I really love them. I bet Texas toast would be perfect for it.

And for death plans? I'm going to be cremated. But. What I'd really like, (and know I won't get), is to have my ashes put into an ornate sarcophagus - it can be small, I only need it for my ashes, not my whole body. I know, it's weird, but I think it would be really pretty.

But for today - I ordered two pairs of Sketchers and they came today. These, and these. They're really comfortable. So happy. Also happy that I beat the clock on the tariffs, and also beat the clock on the upcoming sale of the company to a private equity company (coming up in July, I think). I know the quality of their shoes will go down.

I don't see why you can't have an ornate sarcophagus, GG. Find an artist who works in metal or stone and have it made, with a picture of you in a Cleopatra headdress engraved on the lid. Give it to your executor with instructions to decant your ashes into it when they are delivered by the crematorium. I don't see how that's so weird. It's certainly less weird that the man who had himself buried in his car, sitting at the wheel. Or the man who had his ashes loaded into shotgun shells and fired over his favorite trap range.

A tombstone in a local cemetery has the epitaph "Old Trekkies never die; God just beams them up." The DOB is 1947, the DOD is blank. If she can do that, you can do what you want.

I had wanted to have all my pets cremains buried with me. But I was told that cemeteries don't allow animal remains to be mixed with humans. I was instructed to take the stuffing out of a stuffed animal and to insert the pet cremains. Then the stuffed animal can be buried with me.

The pet cemetery charges almost $1500 for a plot. My alternative plan is to bury the cremains in the grass or under the bushes of my condo. They were all strays found on this property, it would be fitting to have their eternal rest here.

Good morning. The site is acting up for me again this morning. It's particularly irksome to keyboard wearing a splint which makes the unreliability of the site a PITA.

Iris— Seven is a sweet looking cat but still has a little wild through the face. I'm sure you miss her.

My take on the person wielding the chain saw sans protective gear is that it is the male of the species. I think you're being distracted by the hair.

It's been a very Mother-centric week thus far. Two doctor appointments plus food shopping Monday, hair and nails yesterday, tomorrow is the derm to talk about her hair loss and then Mother's Day dinner on Saturday evening. Next week will be quieter.

I was able to stave off my aunt's visit next month. Auntie planned to take the train and have me pick her up. She's almost 90, has poor vision and has terrible balance which scares me a bit. DH and I will drive mom up instead. Mom can stay with her sister or at a hotel next door and we'll head up the coast for our anniversary. I should be working on finding a place to stay— trying to balance king bed, ocean view balcony, bathtub, and a reasonable number of stairs.

Mom had dementia very on her mind yesterday. Lately, she's convinced she's fine which is more concerning to me than when she was worried about her memory. The husband of one of her dearest friends was diagnosed over the winter and seems to be progressing fairly quickly. I feel terribly for his wife; this isn't her first rodeo. She was the only one of their friends who agreed with me about my dad back when mom refused to push for an evaluation. Her own mom had dementia— a behavioral variant FTD— and was difficult. I wonder about his mom, too. She died in a house fire about 6 months after her husband passed away. The fire marshal said it started in the kitchen in the overnight hours.

I'm sure that's what's going on. The rate of loss has declined to her normal in the last 2 weeks. I'm fairly salty about this appointment. Firstly, I had managed to line up skin checks for myself and DH the same day as her original appointment which would have been very convenient in the context of all her other appointments. And secondly, her derm said at the last appointment that she'd switch to yearly checks if she was clear of concerns in 6 months. Tomorrow is not a 6 month appointment. Grrr.

I worry about Nutrafol in the context of her prescribed Preservsion AREDS-2 formula for AMD.
