Starting to see more from the storms yesterday
Here is something else we have to deal with
This was in Benton, Louisiana just northwest of me.

JeriLynn, Will you enjoy your burial ensemble while you are still alive? I sure hope so; it sounds lovely.
Enjoy your plant shopping and planting! I'm sure it will be lovely. You have a good taste in decor (and food, my goodness, the food you make!!!)
Outdoor tasks today, Farmer's Market, just for fun and snacks, tonight.

Morning, dark and drizzly this morning and so is the weather. Supposed to have rain and storms this afternoon.
Ron, those are awfully.big hailstones. If you got.hit by one of those, it would really hurt.
JeriLynn, I'm sure you know this but if you have a chicken who is hurt or sick and she is in with the others, they will peck her to death. Just watch Speck if you put her in the coop.
Need to set out plants but guess I will wait until later when we get through the bad weather. The lantana from QVC didn't make it.
I have my final arrangements made and paid for and I will be between Charles and daddy. All that will be needed is to add the DOD on the tombstone. Need to write my obituary and get some c!othes to the funeral home. Maybe something I like to wear and will need socks,- closed casket so no matter- just something comfortable. Mother knew a woman who buried her mother in overalls, something she liked to wear.
On that happy note I'll stop and fix something for breakfast. Already fed the cats. Put the GPs out at MN and they're back inside asleep. Need to feed the birds and Rusty. The apple slice from yesterday was gone so guess he liked it.

Wow.. you are getting your outfit ready for your eternal journey! Have to say that to do that never crossed my mind. I do ponder burial/cremation. I want to be with Dick whose ashes rest in his flight bag upstairs. They are in his closet with his black Lucchese boots and his patent dress shoes.
Lorita…while still on the death topic, will your land be protected? My parents built the home I grfew up in but it was torn down after 65 years to make room for a really horrible house. At first I was upset but then that it was a good thig. It was a good thing. The house was our families and no one else really should have lived in it and make changes.
What is going on in Saluda is what went on here. In the midst of great tragedy the human spirit soared. Odd to say but it was uplisting.
Ron…moving thoughts/
Carl…a closer made me chuckle. Maybe the men are standing back fearful of her skills…lol.
Texas Toast also makes the best grilled cheese.
Glad that David is posting. I hope the restarting of this thread did not precipitate his leaving.
Iris….I know you are missing your dear Seven. It is so hard to lose a pet.
No rain today. If this keeps up the Caladium bulbs can get planted.

Good point, Judith. It is possible that the car in the picture is hers, that they were taking a break, and she grabbed their saw because she is in a hurry. Now the men are thinking of how to take it away from her without injury. Can't tell much from a still photo.

I am not getting close to anyone with an "electrical" saw.
Well the Cardinals are shut in for the vote. I looked up why some of them wore black. They are members of the Eastern Catholic Church.
Always something to google…

Good morning Front Porch Friends
Judith. I watched the Cardinals, taking oath this morning. I was also wondering why some were in black. I figured it was different countries. Thanks for looking.
Ron. Be safe, stay inside.
Take care all. Hugs Zetta

Good afternoon.
I'm sitting here relieved that mom's chosen direct cremation or she'd be chasing me hither and yon for the ideal ensemble and coordinating accessories.

I read somewhere that in Sweden you can decide to be chummed into fertilizer. Then your family can pour you into a hole and plant a tree. My mother thought that was a great idea and would have done it if it was legal here. What she didn't want was an open casket funeral, because she didn't want all those people looking down at her. So that's what I did. Closed casket, and her wedding picture set on top for people to look at. That's how she wanted to be remembered; a smiling young woman in her best 1944 dress, next to a smiling young man in an Army dress uniform.

Just saw a picture of Bricktown. Do you ever go down there, Judith? By the way, thanks for jogging my memory about getting to our thread. It saves me three clicks.
What do you mean about the land being protected? Also have 100% mineral rights to sell. Guess those will go with the land,no need for me to keep them. There is oil and gas in this area. When I was a teenager they drilled an oil well about 200 ft. South of us and hit oil twice but kept going, then struck gas. I can remember the smell and noise it made. They plugged the well with water from our pond. Never brought it in. Now they can drill somewhere, then horizontally so they can get oil or gas from another farm they aren't even leasing. We leased once but would never do it again.
So whomever buys the farm I will sell the mineral rights to- I think they should go together, if they want them. Reading about mineral rights is confusing.
Just fed Billy. He has eaten 50 lbs. Of sweetfeed. Managed to the other 100 lbs. In the PU so there will be room for Sheena in the back of the car. It is only 67 but humidity is 88% and it is sooo humid.
Gotta go and get some iced tea to drink. Back later.

Lorita…number one is to be certain that you have enough money to live on and that would include needing to be in AL/MC.
You have said in the past that you did not want the land to be used for growing marijuana and the like. I do not know how you stop that after. you have died but at one point you thought Mike would be a good steward. That is what I meant by protected.
You can donate the mineral rights to one of your charities.
By the way…I wish you would stop lifting stuff!!!!!!!!

I have the MC working on the long process of shaking money out of DW's long term care insurer. Delay, deny, depose, right?
I sent an Email to an arborist to see about saving the spruce tree and having a dying redbud removed. Most of the "arborists" just prune and remove trees, but this one does cabling and disease control as well. It's a beautiful tree so I'll save it if I can. I get a lot of compliments on the tree. In fact, the man across the street planted one just like it (much smaller, of course) which is the sincerest form of flattery.
Tomorrow I'll take DS to the dentist and make an appointment to get a new headlight for the car. Replacement of a burned-out headlight on a '58 Ford took $2.86 and a Phillips screwdriver, but modern cars are much less simple.
We had light rain and fog today, and more expected tomorrow, so it's another day of driving around in the rain. It could be worse. We've proven that within the past two weeks.

Carl - But what happens if I click my heels three times and say "there's no place like home?" Where will I end up?
About open caskets - that's exactly what one of my aunts said: she didn't want anyone looking at her. She also had a closed casket.
JeriLynn - I bet Texas toast makes great French toast.
Ron - that hail looks positively evil!
jfkoc - it's been so long since I've had a grilled cheese sandwich (mostly because I don't think of it), and I really love them. I bet Texas toast would be perfect for it.
And for death plans? I'm going to be cremated. But. What I'd really like, (and know I won't get), is to have my ashes put into an ornate sarcophagus - it can be small, I only need it for my ashes, not my whole body. I know, it's weird, but I think it would be really pretty.
But for today - I ordered two pairs of Sketchers and they came today. These, and these. They're really comfortable. So happy. Also happy that I beat the clock on the tariffs, and also beat the clock on the upcoming sale of the company to a private equity company (coming up in July, I think). I know the quality of their shoes will go down.

Talking about burial, I hated it when people said; don't he/she look good, when they don't look anything like they were. I had Lou cremated and instructed both boys to have me cremated. If it will download I'll share my sweet Lou with you and the keepsake with some if her ashes for the boys.

I don't see why you can't have an ornate sarcophagus, GG. Find an artist who works in metal or stone and have it made, with a picture of you in a Cleopatra headdress engraved on the lid. Give it to your executor with instructions to decant your ashes into it when they are delivered by the crematorium. I don't see how that's so weird. It's certainly less weird that the man who had himself buried in his car, sitting at the wheel. Or the man who had his ashes loaded into shotgun shells and fired over his favorite trap range.
A tombstone in a local cemetery has the epitaph "Old Trekkies never die; God just beams them up." The DOB is 1947, the DOD is blank. If she can do that, you can do what you want.

Ron, that's lovely. I didn't see your post before I made the one above to GG.
I agree with you. I certainly prefer my mother's age 22 wedding photo to the way she looked the last time I saw her.

I had wanted to have all my pets cremains buried with me. But I was told that cemeteries don't allow animal remains to be mixed with humans. I was instructed to take the stuffing out of a stuffed animal and to insert the pet cremains. Then the stuffed animal can be buried with me.
The pet cemetery charges almost $1500 for a plot. My alternative plan is to bury the cremains in the grass or under the bushes of my condo. They were all strays found on this property, it would be fitting to have their eternal rest here.
Here is a picture of Seven two days before she died. She wanted to spend some time in the grass and in the sun.

Since your beautiful cat loved the grass and the sun, I think it would be very fitting to inter her there.

Good morning. The site is acting up for me again this morning. It's particularly irksome to keyboard wearing a splint which makes the unreliability of the site a PITA.
Iris— Seven is a sweet looking cat but still has a little wild through the face. I'm sure you miss her.
My take on the person wielding the chain saw sans protective gear is that it is the male of the species. I think you're being distracted by the hair.
It's been a very Mother-centric week thus far. Two doctor appointments plus food shopping Monday, hair and nails yesterday, tomorrow is the derm to talk about her hair loss and then Mother's Day dinner on Saturday evening. Next week will be quieter.
I was able to stave off my aunt's visit next month. Auntie planned to take the train and have me pick her up. She's almost 90, has poor vision and has terrible balance which scares me a bit. DH and I will drive mom up instead. Mom can stay with her sister or at a hotel next door and we'll head up the coast for our anniversary. I should be working on finding a place to stay— trying to balance king bed, ocean view balcony, bathtub, and a reasonable number of stairs.
Mom had dementia very on her mind yesterday. Lately, she's convinced she's fine which is more concerning to me than when she was worried about her memory. The husband of one of her dearest friends was diagnosed over the winter and seems to be progressing fairly quickly. I feel terribly for his wife; this isn't her first rodeo. She was the only one of their friends who agreed with me about my dad back when mom refused to push for an evaluation. Her own mom had dementia— a behavioral variant FTD— and was difficult. I wonder about his mom, too. She died in a house fire about 6 months after her husband passed away. The fire marshal said it started in the kitchen in the overnight hours.
Be safe out there.

HB, regarding the hair loss that seems to be resolved/resolving I am guessing the dermatologist won't do much about it. It seems to be self-limiting, probably due to an event (sepsis) and now that the event is over, going back to normal. Possibly telogen effluvium. Telogen effluvium is self-correcting. Recommendations include: Gentle handling of the hair, avoiding over-vigorous combing, brushing and any type of scalp massage and treating any underlying scalp disorder or hormonal problem. A silk pillowcase is helpful. I use red light therapy (Blumene and iRestore) but this might be overkill for your mom. I also take Spironolactone for this - it is actually for androgenetic alopecia. I never really know what type of hair shedding I had but used the above plus Ketakonazole shampoo as recommended by Dr. Dray on YouTube. Also topical Romaine .Dr. Dray (board certified dermatologist on YouTube) does not recommend Nutrafol. She says it has too much selenium and that can build up in the body. (I searched for that video but couldn't find it). I know some other dermatologists recommend it.
HB, enjoy heading up the coast and Happy Anniversary!

@BethL
I'm sure that's what's going on. The rate of loss has declined to her normal in the last 2 weeks. I'm fairly salty about this appointment. Firstly, I had managed to line up skin checks for myself and DH the same day as her original appointment which would have been very convenient in the context of all her other appointments. And secondly, her derm said at the last appointment that she'd switch to yearly checks if she was clear of concerns in 6 months. Tomorrow is not a 6 month appointment. Grrr.
I worry about Nutrafol in the context of her prescribed Preservsion AREDS-2 formula for AMD.
LOL, for days at the obvious autocorrect "topical Romaine". Yum.1 -
Morning. My goodness we've got a multitude of topics we're discussing. I love it, we can chat about any and everything.
Iris I'm sorry about Seven. That was a nice picture. Our pets certainly become part of us. We love them dearly and miss them deeply.
On that subject, there is a huge pet cemetery here (out in the country) that allows you to be buried with your pets if your cremated. We know of one woman who purchased a plot (very inexpensive) and she's had all of her pets cremated. She's left instruction to be cremated and she's to be put in the plot with all of her animals (dogs).
All I'm going to say about a reverse mortgage is please please please do your due diligence prior to doing that step. Seek information and understanding from financial advisors and various mortgage companies.
More later - the dryer is beeping! Let's be safe everyone.

My, everyone up early for morning coffee on the porch.
I have nothing interesting to share at the moment…that does not mean that I have not out out several fires already dealing with ADT.
I worry about Nutrafol in the context of her prescribed Preservsion AREDS-2 formula for AMD. I take both of these. What should i be worried about?
