Ron….you are going to be well taken care of

    Carl…thank you for the time…

Thank you also for the history lesson. I too have a multi-generational cemetery which i some odd way is reassuring.

You will smile…you will cry….you will be with others…you will be alone at times….what will not fluctuate is that the chapter you have lived will leave you forever changed. Life changes us and like the Velveteen rabbit it makes us real. You will be "fine"……..,..

Ron, what a special picture. So happy you are going to.be close to your family.

Cloudy and muggy here this morning. Rain and storms for later today. Just took a loaf of bread out of the bread maker and put a load of clothes in to dry. Back later.

Judith, it's just a white bread -water, sugar, salt, oil. flour and yeast. Sometimes I use bread flour, other times AP. Funny though, the crumb often varies. Today it is really light and hard to slice, other times firmer. May have something to do with humidity. I have a bread cookbook with all kinds. I think I will try brioche or challah sometime- I like both of those. I think you have a bread machine, don't you?

Nope. Never did but I made wonderful bread and miss having it around. I really want some sourdough but the starter keeps me from making it. It is rfeally the onlyb king of bread I like except a fresh out of the oven baguette.

Judith, a tornado just touched down around Norman so be careful. There's a long line of severe storms moving through your area, headed this way in a coupl e of hours. Travis said there could be up six or seven inches of rain this coming week. Never made a starter. Really don't care for sour dough.

Our news said someone shot two longhorns cows in the middle of the night quite a long way north of here. The owners are afraid they might come back and shoot the other cow and bull. Why would someone do something like that?

Zetta, that picture will be framed! My DIL is a artistand has some beautiful pictures already. I have asked her to make a painting from the folder where it could be framed and hung in my cabin.

I pray everyone will stay safe during the tornado season.

Ron, nice to have that framed. Really a sweet picture.

Judith, where do you take shelter? Storms are SW of us now. We can hear thunder. Couldn't find Max anywhere even looked outside. Found him in the front bedroom and it has been hours since I was in there. He was laying on the bed side table and had knocked the internet things off but guess it still works.

Hope you all can sleep well tonight. See you tomorrow.

Thank you, Mint. The chaplain cited the same reference in Ecclesiastes in his sermon. At my son's request, we all recited the Lord's Prayer as well.

The funeral was a small affair, with family and two neighbors in attendance. The weather was cloudy and breezy, quite comfortable, and we aren't expecting thunderstorms and flash floods until late tonight. Glad you Oklahoma porchies were passed over by the severe storms in your area!

Lorita, we have fools shooting cattle and horses around here once in a while. Typically, there is drinking involved. Shooting a cow is about as hard as shooting a parked car, so it isn't as if they do it for the challenge.

My son's girlfriend is helping him a lot. I don't have a girlfriend and don't want one, but I have friends on the porch and in my city. One former coworker who is still employed (she's about 45) wants me to meet her for lunch as I did before I retired, and a retired neighbor who is a former police officer wants someone to go to the pistol range with him. I have a target pistol and eye and ear protection, but I haven't fired a gun in years.

The sun is setting, so I think I'll close the shades and eat something. Sleep well, friends.

Ron - that is a wonderful photo. I agree with the others, have it framed.

Carl - I'm glad you made it through today. I hope you're able to rest tonight. I'm so sorry about "The Sisters of Mercy" - man!

Lorita - what kind of bread maker do you have?

As for me, today was our last full day in Charleston, and the weather was perfect. We all had a nice day - all of our errands and tasks had been completed by yesterday so this was our fun day. I think a good time was had by all.

I decided to have a slice of flourless chocolate cake and a sugar cookie, but that's all done now. Thursday I'm back at the gym, and get myself back on the straight and narrow. 🙂

    Good morning,

Carl and Ron, I’ve been thinking of you.

We’ve done the Cattle Drive, the Sid Richardson, every shop in the Stockyard and eaten way too much. Today is the John Wayne museum, Joe T Garcia’s.

There are saddled long horned bulls on Exchange street for photo opportunities. I was very concerned about this. So DH found a worker to investigate. The bulls work in 2 hour shifts and rotate back to the stables and the team has an 8 hour work day. They are retired show bulls so accustomed to being handled. They appear healthy but still something sad about it to me. No pictures for us. DH reminds me we don’t have enough pasture to haul home every critter I see.

I hope you each have a peaceful day today

    Good morning.

JeriLynn your hitting some good things here. I don't know if you want bar-b-que, but Railhead is very good. My only issue with the place is you stand in line to order then have to get your food. I wish it was a 'traditional' type of restaurant. Just across the freeway from it is a huge antique mall, Montgomery Street Antiques.

We are heading downtown to 5th Street Cafe. I've got to get in the shower. Later. Let's be safe.

Sounds like everyone is having fun on their trips. Good for you, he til umm for getting your husband to check on the welfare if the bulls. A neighbor has, or had, not sure which some longhorns. I remember a couple of years ago one of the cows had a calf that was really cute but I think all calves are cute. Had lots of rain last night and some this morning. I stayed in bed until 10 and haven't been out to see how much we got. Still cloudy and about 20 degrees cooler than yesterday.

GG, our bread maker is The Bread Factory brand. Never heard of it before. It's at least 35 years old but still works. We used it a lot during the nineties. Would set it to be baking when we got up to go to work. Baking bread smelled so good. When we moved never really used it much until the pandemic began. During that four years I used it at least twice weekky. I remember when one of our social workers told me about this machine that would bake bread. Unbelievable to me! Shortly after that Charles bought this one.

Bryon called early this morning. Still working on his mower but not working yet. Said he had a couple more things he can try to get it going. Too wet to mow anyway. I'm just happy to have grass in the yard after none last year.

Time for Wagon Train, Zetta, so will stop for now. Carl, I hope you are doing okay today.

Mint, you are right. I'm not used to being cared for and it's an adjustment, but it is wonderful to have friends.

We are alternating light rain and hard rain here, and the creeks are rising, but I know where the low places are and I'm fine. I went into town to visit the bank and see if Social Security had acted on the death notice sent them by the funeral home, and they have. I'll have death certificates in a few days, and then can deal with her life insurance, close her bank account, and so forth.

Neighbors have asked me what I'm going to do with our big house, and of course I'm just going to live in it for at least the next year. I'll trade Kathy's car for a newer one, but no other big changes for now.

Really looks good, JeriLynn and the flowers are beautiful. It's peach season in Oklahoma. Did not realize it wss time. Porter peaches are the best. That's where the peach butter Darwin gave me was from.

Carl, just heard there was a tornado warning in St. Louis and rain West IV o there. Be careful.

Its misty here this afternoon. finally got out to check rain gauge. We got 2.5" of rain last night with much more to come. I'm sure the road is flooded.

I haven't even gotten out of my gown and caftan today - no reason to do so. Been putting away casual winter tops and pants and bringing out summer ones. . I don't bother with dressier things because I seldom wear those things. I still have lots of things I wore 30+ years ago so really need to donate those. Would be nice if they could be picked up but not out here.

Judith, I bet OKC is buzzing about the NBA finals beginning tomorrow night. Time to Thunder Up!!

I'm baaack. It's so nice to return to the 21st century with internet and TV.

Carl— It sounds as if your wife's service was an intimate and meaningful. Maybe it's best that the friends who drifted away didn't come; that make have been more irksome. Mom had a plated funeral luncheon with an open bar at a very nice restaurant and so many of the former golf friends who ghosted them turned up that there weren't enough seats— my DH and son ended up eating at the bar and I never did get to sit. The experience left me pretty angry.

Your story about the ambulance company struck me. I'm sorry that happened to you. My old PCP worked as a time as a medical director of the local Roman Catholic hospital when it was still run by nuns. When he left to return to his private practice Sister C who was the administrator tried to screw him out of a significant portion of his pension. He's an Eagle Scout and former altar boy whose faith was shaken by this.

It sounds like you have community looking after you and that's a good thing.

Ron— It sounds like your sons have really stepped up for you around this move. You deserve it. Do you have a place picked out or will you do that after you have had a chance to get a sense of where you might want to live? Football season will be here before you know it.

Lorita— I hope Byron gets his mower fixed soon. It's miserable to cut grass once it gets too high.

Gothic G— It sounds like your week went well. Did your MIL find a nice place while you were there?

Judith— So what did you pick?

It sounds like you are blessed cursed with a discerning eye. I suffer this as well. I can wander into any store and immediately am drawn to that which is spendy. This happens when feeling the cloth of men's suits, furniture fabric in stores. It's one of the reasons mom likes me to go to thrift stores with me— I can spot the good stuff from a distance. My last foray into a consignment shop turned up a gorgeous knit cashmere throw with a ruffled edge for a whopping $15.

Jerilynn— Tell me about dessert. I recognize the flan which looks amazing. What is the other one?

    __________________________________________________________________________

It's been a busy couple of days. It's amazing what one can accomplish without the distraction of the internet or television. I spent several hours with mom getting her sorted out on Tuesday. She's in one of her Swedish Death Cleaning sprees which is always dangerous with her ADHD. She amasses piles of medical

    paperwork

HB, faith is faith and religion is a business. In the USA, health care is a business too. Combine religion and health care, and you might as well put the bean counters in charge. Oh, wait, we have! 🤑
