Speck was a beautiful bird. I'm sorry to see her go.
I'm sorry about your family, JeriLynn. I know how it feels to do something for people and they just tear it down before your eyes.
GG, that was a great trophy. I saw the Michelob banner and one runner falling down, but I really was thinking of after the race for beverage consumption, and of course the spectators. 🍺

Good morning
Ron you have a nice looking trailer
JeriLynn know it is disappointing when tomatoes don’t do well. Gave mine some tomato tone yesterday. They are looking pretty good and i do not want any blossom end rot. Have two cherry tomatoes starting to turn. V will be awhile for the others

Morning in the mid 80s but 102 heat index.
Just had a call fromThe repairman who said it would be between 2 and 3 before he gets here. When I call the Sears number I can't get a person, just automation. This has just begun a couple of days ago. Maybe that is just because I already have an appt.
News is saying the search for missing people in Texas has now changed to recovery. I believe there are 160+ still missing.
I have seen the little Sparrow fly from her nest twice this morning so still hopeful. Stay cool today.

Barbara. It's is so nice hearing from you. Sorry to hear about the pain your having in your knee. I'm also glad you found some relief.
Ron. Your camper looks so comfy. Do you prefer a couch over a recliner? If not you could replace the couch with a nice big comfy recliner. The next recliner i get will be big and wide with coffee cup holders on both sides.
GG. Are you going to be taking some kittens home with you? I know I would want them all.
HB. Its my daughter taking me to yoga, not my mom. If my mom was alive, she would be way too old for yoga. 😀 you are so sweet to your Mom. If she had taken her list, her shopping spree might have been longer. I also like it when stores have the little Starbucks Cafe in them, belive me I use them often when my daughter takes me shopping. That was so sweet that your DH took you out to dinner.
Another, hot day here today. We have canceled our yoga session for today. We will be having pizza delivered for dinner tonight. We're having a lazy day.
Hugs to all, Zetta

Good afternoon all.
Phew, we are having oppressive heat here. Summer is here for sure. I feel for the rescuer's in these conditions. The task they are going through, I can't imagine. I would like to say I could go help, but there is no way. I'd just stand there and cry uncontrollably. Heartbreaking for sure.
Ron I like your new digs. When's the housewarming party?
Lorita I'm hoping the delivery happens on time today.
HB your mamma raised you correctly. She appreciates all you do for her. I frankly don't know how you keep up with everything.
The pulmonary doc said DH's lungs were clear, yea. With the dirty, hot air he needs to use his rescue inhaler. (The fact I say it, it means zip. But the doc says it, ohhhh its important!!) But he was a tiny bit concerned about DH's swallowing. He thinks that might play into his coughing also. He highly suggested a trip to the gastro to discuss this. But frankly I'm thinking of taking him to the ENT. Only because the ENT can run a scope up his nose in the office with no medications. He'll be able to see the vocal cords and everything. If its not one thing its another. I'm not jumping to do anything immediately - he's not in distress.
I declared today a home day. DH is worn out & needs a down day. We certainly don't mind being here, we have AC and food, he's happy! Everyone be safe out there.

Hi…hot here…love reading everything

I am in Stockholm now, after 18 hours of flying. We had Swedish meatballs for dinner. There are 41 in our group. I'm exhausted, off to bed.
Iris

Hot here, too. But there is a.nice breeze but it's hot air.
The repairman came,- same one who was here in December. Says it needs replacement because door seals are not good No idea how long approval takes. He was here mid December and I think they said it was approved mid January. I called Sears an hour or so later and was able to talk to someone, in some foreign country, and she said to call in 3-5 wotking days to see if if was approved. The technician said AI is taking over and he has a hard time talking to anyone except another tech. Will see.how this goes.
Judith, are you still getting better? Keep resting and regain your strength.
Iris, you are a world traveler for sure. What is the weather like in Stockholm? Rest up a bit and have a good time. What else would you have had to eat except Swedish meatballs!
Eagle, happy your husband's pulmonary report was good. Always makes us feel better. Back later.

Going to bed early and watch tv a while. Good night, sleep tight.

HB - that makes so much more sense (the abx). My dad also had an artificial heart valve, but he was mostly okay. In fact, he outlived his cardiologist.
Zetta - my friend's kittens are the sweetest. So cute. We're definitely going to get more cats, it's just a matter of when and where will we be living.
Iris - I hope you're having a great time!
I hope you're all being careful in the extreme heat.
I got back a couple of hours ago from seeing my bestie. We hung out, played with the cats, and then had a fairly PNW lunch - salad with sockeye salmon on top. For dessert we had Rainier cherries (so good).
Then we watched Train to Busan - it had been on my list of things to watch for awhile now. It always gets rave reviews (I've never seen a bad review of it). My friend had seen it already, but liked it enough that she was game to watch it again. It's a simple plot - dad and 10 year-old daughter on a high-speed train from Seoul to Busan (the movie has subtitles), and while they're on the train a zombie apocalypse breaks out. The movie examines corporate greed, selfishness v selflessness, class status, issues with the elderly and the homeless, and definitely morality. If you know anyone who likes zombie movies, I highly recommend that one, and I don't care all that much for zombie movies. Here's a review if you want. And a better review. There's nothing gross at the links. The actress who played the 10 year-old is going to win an Academy Award someday. She was very good in this movie.
After that we played a board game, drank tea, and then I headed home. Really nice day.

Well friends I had a successful day yesterday. I'm down to one drawer of one freezer to organize! The tubs I bought fit perfectly (imagine that! I actually measured the shelves before I bought).
DH canned 10 more quart jars of pickles. Cucumber and squash bread and butter. We froze more blackberries, some okra and squash. Pulled some onions and peppers. The corn is looking like it will make a good little crop for us - I'll freeze corn on the cob.
Our camping trip is rescheduled for the end of July. The campground required 48 hrs notice to cancel but since SIL was diagnosed with Covid the day before our scheduled arrival they graciously allowed us to move the dates.
Judith, I'm hoping you are continuing to improve. Iris, have fun and be safe. GG - did you come home with a kitten?

good morning
Iris, you can complain about no energy lol. You have way more than I have. I could never keep up with you. Traveling is not my thing. I trips, but I enjoy your pictures.
there was a beautiful full moon this morning. I see it’s called the buck moon. Haven’t looked up why it’s called that.
hope each one has a peaceful day

It's very foggy here this morning.
Lorita— I hope they come through on the new fridge quickly. This is why mom didn't renew her whole house appliance/mechanicals policy. Getting a tech to come do the assessment took weeks sometimes and then things got very bureaucratic— for the cost of the policy, the service wasn't worth what she was paying.
Zetta— My bad. You're the mother in the mother & daughter yoga. Got it.
Eagle— Maybe you should see the GI doc and ask for a swallow study. Mom's gastro was reluctant to scope her given her age and health, so he ordered a swallow study with an SLP who fed mom various textures and watched with a fluoroscope (I think) to determine what was happening. The study follows the process from mastication the entire way down the esophagus and into the stomach.
One thing hers showed was that the process beyond the back of the throat was slower than normal which is not unusual among older people.
Iris— Enjoy your trip. I can't wait to see pictures.
Gothic G— There's nothing better than kittens. How did you resist not slipping one or two into your bag or pocket on the way out?

It's infectious disease day. Oh yay. This particular office is not an easy drive from mom's, so I'll need to leave a bit early to be there on time and then wait as timeliness does not seem to be a thing at this office. It's one of those places where they usher you into an exam room, check you in and then you sit there long enough to wonder if they've forgotten you're there.
Have a pleasant day.

Morning, just heard something on the news that made my.b!ood boil. This wss in Tulsa - someone had put a dog in one of those big metal trash bins and closed the lid. A man found it and it was dehydrated and starving. No idea how long it had been there. Just imagine being inside a metal bin, closed up in this heat without food or water. The man got it to animal control and they're taking care of the poor thing. Medical bills are already.over $4,000. They're trying to find the idiot who did this by checking nearby cameras, etc. They will find him and I hope they hang him up by - well, you probably know. I cannot understand people like that. He did this and probably went back to his air conditioned house.
HB,I got a text from Sears saying they're working with suppliers to figure out what parts are needed for repair. Might take a few days. I asked them, What parts? The repairman said it needed replacement. This contract requirements have changed in The last few months. The man said AI is causing it. I will probably end up buying a new one myself.
Another hot day in store. Glad the little dog was found and is being taken care of. He will get his just rewards, now or later if you get my drift. Stay cool.

Good morning……
Lorita I hope the process for the new frig moves along quickly. It all seems so frustrating - wait for a tech to come to the house - wait for something else - then wait longer. I sometimes think that they do that hoping you'll give up and just purchase a new appliance. Hang in there.
GG little kitten are hard to resist, so cute. You need several.
HB its a toss up which dr to take DH to. The ENT is the one who has ordered and done the last two swallow studies DH had done. The last time we started at the gastro and he sent us to the ENT. Luckily both of us really like both dr's, because I anticipate we'll see both of them. When DH pays attention the coughing and swallowing are much better.
Iris, rest up and have a great trip.
Judith I hope your feeling better.
Time to get ready for the day. Let's be safe everyone.

My mother found an opossum in her trash bin once. She opened the lid and it was looking up at her. Apparently it climbed in to eat garbage and she closed the lid without knowing it was there, and it was stuck there until the next day. The bin was one of those plastic bins on wheels so she just laid it on its side until the opossum left. I don't know if a dog could climb into a commercial bin or not, but children can. One of my son's elementary school classmates slept in those things sometimes.
Warm and breezy here today, nice day in the shade. Not so much in the sun. It's already 83 F, and it's only 10:30. Have a nice day.

Carl, the.bin the dog was in wss one of those big ones. Some nut put it in there. I bet that was a shock when your mother saw the opossum.
Already very warm here, too. There was a good breeze but the flag is limp now. Got Stormy's nails trimmed. Need to try Sheena's and all of their ears. My problem is I can't get her up on something so will have to get down on the floor with her. You all know the problem that can present! They have an appt. Monday but weather is saying lots of rain this weekend so roads may be flooded.
What is going on with this site?. Took a long time to find you all. Why is everything moving and how do you get there?
Eagle, I am thoroughly disgusted with Sears. The Tech. And I talked about it and he feels the same way. I do not like changes!! This contract is up in early August and I may not renew. I'm at the age what I have will probably last as long as I do anyway. Girls have come to the barn for the day...Gave them fresh water so they're okay. Late yesterday I saw something swimming in the pond, couldn't tell what it was so got the.binoculars and it was a heifer swimming across, not straight across but at an angle. All that was visible was her head. Scares me when the babies swim across with their moms.
They rolled up or baled hay on Darwin's place yesterdsy. Nothing is much prettier to me than a meadow with those big bales on it. Looks like it made a lot. They had three balers working..
I'm afraid there are no little birds. Need to get my three step stool out and check. Awfully quiet out there.
I see on TV that Trump is finally going to Texas today.
Eagle, what happened to your Governor that he's in a wbeelchair?
Better get going before it gets too hot outside.

I'm glad you're feeling better Judith. I hope the appointment doesn't bring any surprises.
Lorita— I am angry on your behalf. LOL, you're about mom's age; she jokes anytime she makes a major purchase or buys a case of something that it is a "lifetime supply". I hope her appliance last, but I know she'll be pestering me about a trip to Costco for paper towels with the next couple of weeks. She tells me her cleaner takes them. This irks her. Her cleaner does excellent work for a very reasonable price and is reliable as well. If she wants to take 1/2 a roll of Bounty with her, mom needs to get over it and consider it part of the cost of not cleaning her own home.
Eagle— mom's swallowing can be impacted by her being distracted by dining with others. Somebody says something funny and we have choking and spluttering still. Fortunately it looks like discontinuing Fosamax fixed the silent aspiration that was the bigger problem.
_______________________________________________________________________________
Infectious Disease was running a mere 45 minutes behind today. Given the nature of his work, many of his appointments are telehealth with very sick and vulnerable people so even though we were the only people there we waited. And waited.
He was pleased with how well mom was doing. Of late, she been stuck on her HOA's rule about people with communicable diseases being banned from the pool. I have tried to assure her that she does not have some exotic communicable disease countless times. She had, and potentially still has, some staph bacteria (which everyone has on their own skin) in her bloodstream for which she's been treated with IV abx and daily abx going forward and that this is not a communicable disease. Her PCP and heart doctor told her the same thing I did. I brought it up with the ID doc and he gently explained to her that she can't make anyone sick and that she should go to the pool as much as she wants.
I brought her home, told her to suit up and dropped her at the pool. We agreed she's Uber home. I ordered the Uber so she won't have to deal with that aspect of getting home. Fingers crossed this doesn't go sideways. My route to her house is part of a detour and traffic is quite heavy during rush hour. She's lost about 8lbs in the last 6 months from being sick. She swears last year's suit no longer fits. It does. She's angling for a trip to Lands End I just know it.
On funny aside.
A couple weeks ago she was asking about when she was supposed to see the ID doc.
I said "July 11".
She said she thought it was sooner.
I said "I have July 11 in my phone, but you can call the office and check".
She said, walking to the fridge "I have a paper that has the 1st on it"
She handed me the paper, a torn-off corner of an envelope, that said "Furnace man" in her cursive in pencil. I said "This says furnace man. You're getting your HVAC maintenance that day." Knowing her vision can be really iffy, I asked "What did you think it says?"
"Fungus man"
Just why?

Good afternoon Porch Friends.
Lorita. I sure hope they find who put the dog in the trash bin and yes hang him by the you know what. You need to keep on them about your fridge. You were intitled to replacement, long ago.
Iris. Have fun in Stockholm, you sure are a world traveler. As old as I am, 79. I would be afraid if I had to go to a hospital in a different country. That was a long flight. When we went to Poland, the flight was 14 hours, I really like the flight, and how nice they were to us travelers, on the plane.
GG. Sounds like you had a real nice visit with your bestie. I'm glad you were able to do that. I would have loved to have seen and held all those kittens.
JeriLynn. It's nice you were able to change your camping dates, and have your payment transfered. That would have been a bad thing if they would not allow that.
Hugs to all Zetta

Thanks, I will, Zetta. The watermelon is good. Cut it in Half and ate half of that. It's seedless and red and sweet. I did find one seed. Wonder what happens if you plant a seed from a seedless watermelon? My daddy told me to get seedless watermelons you have to cover most of the runners with dirt. I don't recall that we ever tried it though.
Sandy so very good to talk with you. I will do better, I promise. Darwin didn't call so in a few minutes I called him with no answer. Tried three mute times five minutes apart with no answer so hurried over there. He was okay and his phone phone was in the other room. He apologized over and over. Wasn't feeling too good today but went to town. I wish his daughter would set-up an account at WM so she could order for him so he wouldn't have to go to town so often. The meadows with the bales of hay are so pretty. Our neighbor south has been baling, too ,so there is hay everywhere.
Have a good evening and sleep well. Good night.

JeriLynn - that must feel really good getting all of that done. Organizing is a lot of work. How do you freeze corn on the cobb?
Mint - I saw the moon the other night, when it was just slightly gibbous. I watched it come up, large and yellow in the sky. It was a nice moment.
Lorita - that's horrible about the little dog. I don't know how anyone could be that cruel. I hope they find him, fine him, and hopefully jail him for awhile.
Judith - I'm glad you're continuing to recover!
HB - Fungus man. That was a laugh out loud moment for me.
Zetta - I'm like you, there will never be a time when I don't want to pick up a kitten or a cat. They're just instant happiness.
I didn't come home with any kittens! We'll get two though. My s.o. is not really a cat person, but when he's invested, he's good with them. So what I need to do is let him choose the kittens, and even better, let him name them. He's the one who came up with Godzilla and Gamera for our previous cats. I predict two kittens within the year. 🙂
I mostly did work today, but then played board games all night. Terraforming Mars is a favorite.
Somehow it's gotten to be past 2am, so I'm going to go to sleep.

GG, you were going to bed at the same time (different zones) I was waking up. It's 5 am here now. I have the washing machine going, made the bed, cleaned the bathrooms, looked at what I might have to throw a cake together for oldest granddaughter's birthday today. She's 27. How did THAT happen? Gosh.
Anyway. Oh - Freezing corn on the cob. You can boil/blanche on the stovetop OR you can microwave for about 5 minutes and then (either method) seal in ziplock freezer bags OR vacuum seal. I use the microwave. No pot washing involved. And, I think your kitten plan is a good one.
HB - "Fungus Man"…. I love it. Anxiously awaiting the news of Mom's Uber ride home… successful, I hope.
Ron, are you staying with your son while you wait for the camper to be delivered?
Iris, having fun???
Judith - tell us about your follow-up appointment.
Eagle - did you get an appointment for DH?
Lorita - I hate service calls. I long for an old-fashioned washing machine without all the safety features that prevent opening the lid whenever you want.
Mint - the Roma tomatoes are flourishing!
Hot and random thunderstorms here today. And great granddaughter is coming for a sleepover. I hope I get a nap before.
Have a safe day everyone… I'll BBL.

good morning
Judith, I’m glad you’re feeling better
JeriLynn glad at least one tomato is flourishing. I got two ripe cherry tomatoes yesterday.
HB your mom keeps you busy.
something is eating my sunflowers. It’s just in my flower bed. I do not believe it’s the Deers because the plants are still real small. Normally that’s not when the deer eat them. Normally they eat on the leaves after they get bigger. I have some bigger sunflowers that came up voluntarily in my garden area and the leaves have not been eaten so I don’t believe it’s deer. I’ve never had trouble with deer in the backyard. It’s fenced in and most of the backyards in neighborhood are not fenced in, so I’ve always kind of felt they take the path of least resistance. They have eaten on the volunteer sunflower in the front yard. That’s why I did not plant any out front this year because it’s not fenced the deer always eat them.

Good morning all.
Lady Z— A nice flight crew? Were your flying first class or was this a long time ago? I've found flights to be less civil than they ever were in the past. I haven't flown since COVID, but the flights I had the year before were something to be mostly endured.
Lorita— I sometimes wonder if Darwin's trips into town and outside chores are how he claims respite for himself from his caregiving duties. I've offered to set up food delivery or pickup for mom or for me to do her shopping (as I did during COVID), but she wants to get out of the house and do it herself. A weekly grocery run takes mom close to 2 hours— I could drive to her to one or 2 stores, buy her groceries, drive them to her house and bring them into the kitchen and drive home in less time than that.
Gothic G— DH wasn't a "fan of cats" but he did get me a Persian kitten as an engagement/housewarming gift. "Nicky" stole his heart the first week and he has forever bragged that our various cats like him best.
Jerilynn— I am with you on the dislike of newer washing machines. I deeply regret not spending extra for a Speed Queen set although I don't know that they don't have the locking safety feature. The switch on my last machine broke and the repair tech bypassed it so I could open it even during a spin cycle. I miss that.
The Uber went sideways. I scheduled it for 4:15 with instructions for her to make her way to the portico at the clubhouse by 4:00. She did, but she says her phone overheated in her bag and wasn't working. I don't think this is entirely true. It was warm, but the phones have never overheated in the past at the pool even on warmer days or in the bag. I checked her location at 4:15 and she was at the portico. At 4:20 she appeared to be moving down the street. At 4:25 it became obvious she was on foot. I called and she gave me some convoluted story about the over-heated phone, a driver who didn't speak English and didn't show up. I told her to hang under a tree, and I would be there in about 20-ish minutes (rush hour).
By time I'd gotten there, she was about 2/3 of the way home (it's 0.8 mile); she made it up the "hill" she swore she couldn't do and was on the level part of the route. She was not winded and was quite proud of herself. She was on track to make the walk in about 30 minutes which is slow but doable. She got deconditioned with the hospitalizations and not doing her walks for exercise (because she doesn't enjoy them as well as bad weather) but I've been successfully bullying her of late, and I think she's finally bought in. I hope she does more of this. They have scads of activities at the clubhouse— exercise classes, a library, volunteer opportunities, a gym, parties, clubs— if she'd just do it.
Turns out, the driver did call at the gate and was pretty snappish when she didn't respond quickly at the gate (I heard it on the voice mail), so I gave him a bad rating and no tip. He did have an accent, but not so strong that Siri couldn't transcribe it to text. Getting an Uber in her gated community is a real PITA. It works better when I drop her at a shopping center and arrange pick-up from there.
____________________________________________________
There is a Costco run in my future. It's in DS's too as I am banned from lifting heavy things. DH has been pestering me about making a Costco list. I made the list. He asked me to read it to him. I handed it to him to read himself; I'm busy talkin' smack about him here. It's 2 columns— one for things I have to buy and one for things I will need in a week or 2 and will buy if they're on sale now. He said he didn't see the hand soap refill— I told him to look in the column on the right. He said— "oh, there it is".
DS needs to hang a light in mom's closet for her. And he needs to mow the lawn; it's looking pretty shaggy out there. He's not going to be happy.
Dinner at the dive restaurant with friends tonight. It'll be dry so we should be able to eat outside.

Turkey had been telling me good morning every morning. I love sitting on the porch every morning breathing this fresh country air.
Ron
5 -
Morning still in bed. Rain is north of us. Had one heck of a time finding our group this morning. Anyone else having this problem?
Another way to freeze corn, shuck and silk it, put it in zip lock bags and freeze. When you want an ear butter it and wrap tightly in wax paper, twisting ends and microwave. Or just put as many as you want in boiling water. One year we put unshucked ears in a paper sack and froze it. Turned out great. Less work.
HB, I also have thought the same as you about Darwin. He just needs something to do.
Ron, what a nice way to start your day. Have you named the turkey?
Mint, I planed a.huge wild violet in a big pot on the steps and.now it is entirely gone, not even a stem left. I don't know what ate it. The.North side of the yard has lots of violets.but they don't eat those. No problems with deer here, but something is around.
JeriLynn, I agree about the washers. Every time I do laundry I wish I had kept the old one and had it repaired instead of getting a new one. This one uses very little water but does get the clothes clean. If I wash pants with other clothes the legs of the pants are twisted around the other things. So-called progress is not always good. Back later.

Morning all……
Ron that's a wonderfully relaxing picture. Thanks for sharing it. The turkey has adopted you.
I started the day out in the yard. I thought I'd get some things done before it was too hot. The temp wasn't too awful, but the humidity about did me in. I used to be able to work out there all day and not think twice about it. Now so much now. I was out over three hours and am zapped. But I did complete one project, and I'm glad about that. Now, to finish my Gatorade and hit the shower.
I didn't make the call for DH's appointment. I will on Monday. I am really watching to see 'exactly' how / what he's doing cough wise. I will say he is coughing less, but the constant throat clearing isn't right.
Lorita I'm sorry Sear's is being difficult. Anything they can do to not help the customer seems to be the norm. Hang in there. Gov Abbott is in a wheelchair because a tree fell on him when he was jogging, of all things. This was years ago.
HB your mamma does keep you busy. I bet she was pleased with herself for the "walk" even though it wasn't what she was suppose to do. And the fungus man - priceless.
Have a safe and wonderful day everyone.

Ron…have you named the turkey?
Because requested…items discussed, med change from hospital, blood pressure (now monitoring) lack of UTI culture, tremor( did not realize I had one) hands freezing up ( mayby from use, now tryign to pinpoint), something in my lung (will do followup MRI in 6 months but no real concern) more exercise (duh) weight loss ( yea) something found in my brain (starts with "m", again no concern but wil monitor), PT for BVVP (ha, now I am using medical abbreviations.
I think that is about all….lol
Jeri and others…I was never as active/busy as you are. I need a nap after reading all your posts.!
