    Good morning…….

JeriLynn I'm sorry for your loss. It's nice it was peaceful.

Lorita do be careful. Your moving a lot of big heavy things around.

GG good for you staying within your ABC guidelines. And for having a good visit. I'll admit to having having heard of Dead Lights.

HB I'm glad bestie is doing well.

I need to handwater before its a million degrees out. Let's be safe everyone.

Lorita…I asked because I thought I could do a google for you. I think you are up a creek. We have weekly trash…bi monthly recycle and monthly bulky waste. Maybe just throw the broken fans into the storm shelter.

Lorita, there are places here that buy iron, copper, aluminum, lead, and brass for scrap. You can take them junk cars, defunct furnaces, beer cans, etc. and they pay a little for them. When I was working we had a recycle bin in the break room and I sold the aluminum soda cans to a company called McCoy Iron & Metal, then bought toys for the Marine Corps "Toys for Tots" Christmas collection.

I don't know if there's anything like that near you or not. You might have to unwind the copper from the coil in the electric motors first and sell it separately. I doubt you'll make enough to pay the fuel to town, but it would get rid of the junk.

There was an ABC brand chewing gum on the market for a while when I was in elementary school. Rumor held that ABC stood for "Already Been Chewed."

Thanks, Judith, I thought about that. Bryon came this morning and mowed. I asked him if he knew where I could get rid of those things and he said he would take them! Also took several cans of o!d paint that were sitting in the yard. Lucky day, years ago, when we found.him.

He said he and his wife are taking turns staying with Wyatt who isn't supposed to be up much. He did say he was really getting cabin fever.

Eagle, all I have to do is get the clothes back in the chest and sort of clear away things so they can get in the door easier. Right mow there are three sacks of trash to go down to the road late today.

Carl, there is a recycling place in the bigger town 25 miles away. But, once again Bryon solved the problem.

Now to get the clothes donated. Carol says Goodwill picks up donations in her town. I tried calling but no answer.

Already pretty.hot out but there is a breeze which helps. I transplanted more violets in the pot for Rusty to nibble on. He will be happy.

Stay inside and stay cool. Summer is here.

    Good evening, porch friends.
HB, so glad your bestie made it to the cath lab on time. That sounded like it was close.

Lorita, i give my squirrels peanuts, but I’ve noticed how much they like the sunflower seeds in the birdseed. Maybe I should buy some just for them.

My parents shopped for everything at Sears. Dad was a professional engineer, but mom stayed home with us until we went to school, and we always needed things. My three sisters and I were forever outgrowing our shoes and clothes. Dad had a big shop in the basement (he built two houses in his lifetime), and all the hand tools were Craftsman. My little sister and I drooled over the Christmas catalog — I think they called it the wish book, and boy did we wish for more Barbie outfits.

On the appliance front, I had a very unhappy experience in my previous house with an aging SubZero. Where I live now, I have a Samsung washer, range and two Samsung not-so-smart TVs. The washer is fine, but the range throws a code every time i try to use the broiler. It only happens when i have dinner guests. Since I don’t eat a lot of meat, i just sort of steer clear. The TVs are reliable, but the software is too old now to be updated, which means that certain streaming services won’t work (I’m looking at you, Peacock). I need to buy a new TV. TBH, that is not at the top of my to-do list.

We had two days of blissfully cooler weather, and today it is back to 89 with a dewpoint of 71. Hot and humid! Well, it is July in New York City. Hope everyone finds a way to stay cool.

Everyone went home today - a good time was had by all.

Lorita - that's kind of why I quit eating meat too - the animals. Salmon is pretty much the only meat I eat now, and that's only because it's so good for you (and I can't lie - it's tasty). I quit eating all other meat in 1997 and haven't looked back.

Dead Lights is a band, and they describe themselves on their bandcamp page as "electronic glam goth with an industrial edge." Fair. If you're curious, here's Ice Queen. They had me at "are you one that runs", once I heard that, I had to find everything they ever did. 😄

tigersmom - I think you're right about it being called the wish book. My sister was more into Barbies than I was (actually, I wasn't into them at all), but we both had Liddle Kiddles and troll dolls.

We're back to the old familiar PNW weather - overcast. We had a brief bit of sun today, but not much. At least it wasn't cold - it got up to probably 71 degrees.

I spent some time talking with Peggy's friend D today - that was good, and I'm seeing M in a little more than a week. I'm glad that "Team Peggy" is still hanging together.

Tigersmom, I bought peanuts during the winter for Rusty. WM has them. He and his wife llke the sunflower seeds. So cute to see them sitting up eating them. Yesterday I was watching him eat the seeds and all at once he jumped straight up st least three feet and grabbed a bird feeder.. Just held on and ate the seeds.. We haven't had squirrels too long so they are entertaining to me. When I was growing up I think Montgomery Ward and Sears were the most popular to order from. Just thought of another catalog. Does anyone remember National Bellis Hess? I think that wss the name.

Darwin called early tonight and told me he was in his big equipment barn working on his mower, got dizzy and felt like he was going to pass out. Donna happened to come out and with her help got into the house. He called an hour or so later and said the dizziness had gone away. He also went to town this morning. I know the pharmacy was closed so he will have to go again.

I have been trying to find name and number for the repair place for his mower so he won't have to go there. Called Mike and he knows the owner so will get his number for us. I worry that Darwin will get outside and pass out and won't be'able to call me.

Almost time for bed so will say good night, sleep well.

I remember my mother having a National Bellas Hess catalog, but my wish books were Sears and Monkey Ward. The Sears wish book had boy toys, like guns and motorbikes and fancy hubcaps, and it was my favorite. We got the JC Penney catalog in the 1970s, and my wife bought a lot of things from it. We still have a Penney's store at the mall, but the Penney's Home Store is gone.

Many years ago, I was told of an American company that built a factory in Mexico and hired local workers. Everyone showed up on Monday and Tuesday, some came on Wednesday, but no one came to work on Thursday or Friday. The company learned that the men had earned all the money they needed in two or three days, so they felt no need to work all week. So, the company had Sears catalogs printed in Spanish and gave them to the workers' wives. Problem solved.

    Morning,

I slept until 5:30 this morning! It was glorious to sleep all night.

Our visit with my friend from high school went well. Her husband is delightful, and they live in SC on his family's rural property, so he and DH had lots to talk about. Of course, they wanted to visit my "animal family" so we went out to see the chickens, the goats and dogs. I think Hooch knew he had company because he kept standing tall and crowing while Mary Ann took his picture. The goats and dogs did not disappoint as I took a whole box of cookies with us. Bestie fell in love with Twinkle, the littlest little girl. It was a lovely visit.

Today is SIL's visitation and funeral. Other errands in town before we attend. Since I just only recently met her, I was undecided about floral arrangements but opted for the "Enchanted Garden" arrangement of assorted plants in a basket with fresh flowers added. I don't know if her children (grown, 1 DD and 2 DS) are plant people but I got it anyway.

Lorita, I'm glad Darwin is ok.

DD's AC is acting up again! So the repairman is coming again. Thankfully she is off work today and can be there to meet him.

DH may have fixed the Samsung washer. I love my country boy for lots of reasons, but being handy is right up there. Before him, I had a yardman, a handyman and a guy to help me with various projects. No more. DH to the rescue. 😂

Gotta run since I slept so late. I'll TTYL. Be safe and have a good day.

PS: It seems Frick is our egg-eater. She is in Chicken Time Out for now. Not sure of DH's plan for egg eating rehabilitation. Always a circus around this place.

Morning, the blue heron looks comfortable up in the tree JeriLynn. Are they really b!uish?

Already very warm here. We're under an extreme heat alert today, hopefully, I can stay inside. I keep telling my neighbor he better stay in. He says he will but..His lawn mower isn't working and I was able to find the phone number of the guy who does his repair work so he wouldn't have to drive over there. He just called to tell me the man has already picked up the mower.

Everyone, please be careful in this heat. Fall will be here soon??

Hi again. Where are all the porch rockers today? It is hot out there, I know. The porch faces east so gets lots.of morning sun.

Remember I posted that I had transplanted two big clumps of wild violets in the pot on the steps? Well, half of the leaves are gone. Rusty at work, for sure.

I ordered the refrigerator for the utility room this morning. Delivery will be sometime after 8 a.m.Wednesday. Ordering over the phone is better than getting out in the heat to make the trip.. Going to call Sears and see if there is any change.

Girls are in the barn. They started coming in about 8 this morning. There was a really good breeze earlier but not so much now. There's about 20 feet open on the south and 16 on the north plus three shutters on the east for air circulation. Hope it's enough. You all stay cool out there I saw that most of Kansas is in extreme heat alert, too. Missouri probably also. And, here I am drinking hot tea. Daddy used to work in the fields when it was so hot and he would come in for lunch and drink hot coffee. Said it made him feel cooler. I have heard that since, too. Back later.

Hello everyone! I'm back from my amazing trip to Scandinavia. All the countries are very nice! I will post pictures when I have more time. I'm trying to catch up, I'm only up to July 10th.

JeriLynn, I'm sorry about little Speck.

Ron, your camper looks so nice, you will enjoy living in it.

    Judith are you feeling okay?

Good afternoon. The weather here is just perfection. Warm, sunny, low humidity with a light breeze. It's such a treat.

Judith— I'm intrigued, in what capacity did you obtain a pro discount? Chef? Designer?

Jerilynn— I am sorry to hear about your SIL's passing.

The heron picture was interesting. We had a heron around at times when we lived on the creek. They tended to be solitary, and I never saw them in trees nor any young. I was always stuck by how big they are. On land, they're a little scary.

Iris— I'm looking forward to your pictures once you get back on PDT.

    ______________________________________________________________________________

DS decided to take the RiverLink into Camden to check out some updates to Battleship New Jersey today. He last toured when it was in dry dock in Philadelphia. Once was plenty for me. Even DH could not be coerced into a second trip.

DH and I went to see his cardiologist for a follow up which we expected to be routine. Nope. The cardiologist ordered some further testing. He warned us that it was unlikely insurance would cover the test (he said it's only happened 3 times in his career), but to schedule it and we'll move onto his second-choice testing if needed which would be 2 different tests with a potential of a heart biopsy to follow. I did not have that on my BINGO card at all.

We scheduled his 6-month follow-up which happens to be the same day as mom's 6-month cardiology appointment. Same doctor. Mom is at 11:30; DH is at 8:00 am. That should be interesting. I'll have enough time to get DH home before collecting her.

DH and I grabbed lunch at a cute place. I try not to be difficult. They were out of lemonade, so they could make the Arnold Palmer (which is on their menu) I ordered. I ordered a pot of English Breakfast tea. They only had Earl Grey. Nope. I ended up with a cold brew coffee with sweet foam. This was not a good choice; I feel like I swallowed a bottle of Adderall. I hope I can sleep tonight. I think I'll go do a little light weeding.

    Welcome home, Iris!

It's hot here too. All of Missouri south of the Missouri River is under an extreme heat warning, and I am staying out of the sun. It's 90 now and feels like 97.

Blue herons are light blue. I suspect the color makes them hard to see from underwater and makes them better fishers. I "chased" one while floating down the Elk River once. Every time the canoe came near, the heron flew 100 yards downstream. After a mile or so, it came to the end of its comfort zone and flew over us to go back upstream. I have never seen them out of the water, where they fish. Why does a heron stand on one foot? Because if they picked up both feet, they would fall down. 🙂

I got my blood pressure checked at the senior center this morning. The BP is much improved. My doctor thought my life as caretaker for a PWD affected my BP, and it appears she was right (as usual). I'm feeling much less stress and sleeping well for the first time in years.

I'm off to see DS. TTYL

    Happy hot afternoon………

Welcome back Iris. I'm looking forward to seeing some pictures. I think its wonderful that you go on this trips. Good for you.

Lorita I'm worried about Darwin also. Scary for sure. Of course if he's not properly hydrating that could be the issue. Non-the-less its concerning.

I love watching heron's fly, to me they are graceful. We have several Mississippi Kites in our neighborhood. They seem to come back each summer. They are fairly large and pretty to watch glide around. They sit in a tree in the neighbor's behind us yard.

HB it is always something. And no you certainly didn't have that on your Bingo card!

I need to work on some photo's I'm submitting to a contest. Its to raise awareness to dementia, so I figures I'd attempt an entry. Or maybe two!

    Please be safe out there.

HB…The main house slept 12…pot/pans/ pantry was off the kitchen…downstairs was a kitchen/ bedroom/ living room which slept 2. The original part of the house was the quarters for the ranch manager for Hacienda ded los Cerros and was 150 years old. The structure was one of only a few not made of adobe or covered in adobe to bring in the tourist trade.

My work was for a large family to visit. It is now a primary residence.

Darwin doesn't have a medical alert but I wish he did. I have talked to.him about getting one.No, Donna couldn't call for help anymore. It worries me, too. We talk every 12 hours but that's a long time apart in this heat. He drinks lots.of water and cranberry juice. Probably needs Gatorade and I have told.him that. You know he's 86 and a little set in his ways.

We have a white crane or two every once in a while and occasionally an egret. Drives the GPs nuts when they see them at the ponds.

Called Sears today and they had an appt. for the same tech to come out tomorrow. Glad I called. All he will do.is take pictures. I moved the chest full of clothes about four inches this morning or last night and now my left side and chest hurts or is sore. Can't do anything anymore without hurting.

Carl, glad your BP is good and you're sleeping well and under less stress. Care giving is hard and stressful.

Weatherman says hot, hazy and humid from now on until October. Should hit 100 degrees by the weekend. Our heat indices are from 105-110 already. He said Oklahoma has had 55 tornados this year with our fall storm season yet to come.

Judith, do you think it might be too late and.hot to plant the Caladiums?

    Hello Porch Rockers.

Lorita. Here are some singing bowls. Now that Rusty, has a wife maybe you will have baby squirrels running around. I bet your looking forward to your fridge that's being delivered Wednesday. It's nice you found someone to fix Darwins mower. Im also concerned about him, being out by himself, being dizzy.

    https://youtu.be/unCya_-8ECs

HB. Its nice your beastie is home. I'm glad she stood her ground, attitudes do clash. In my younger years my attitude clashed often. I sure hope if she drives herself home, she will be safe. Sorry your DH is needing further testing, I'm also hoping your insurance will cover at least part of it. I love foam on my hot brew coffee.

GG. I'm glad you had a wonderful visit with your relatives. I wish I had close relatives.

Carl. Burger and fries in the shade, sounds so delicious. Yes I remember the Summer Time song. It's nice that your BP is down. Sounds like your getting some much needed rest.

JeriLynn. Sorry about your SIL, peaceful passing is a blessing. Sleeping all night sounds good. I did that once a long time ago. The bird in the tree looks big, you said it was a young one, how old do you think it is?

Iris. Welcome home, I'm also looking forward to the pictures you will be sharing with us. It's nice that you can travel as much as you do.

It looks like my son in laws, job is having us move to Bosie Idaho. I sure hope so, I will be much closer to my son, who lives in Oregon, if you remember I left Oregon, a year ago to come to Arizona, to be with my daughter. Bosie, is only a 5 hour drive to Bend, Oregon. I will know more later.

    Hugs to all, Zetta

Zetta, I've been to Sandpoint and Coeur d' Alene, ID - SO beautiful there! I do hope the move works out; you could spend more enjoyable time outside without the 100 degree temperatures.

Lorita - I love your squirrels. We have a few that run through the yard, but none that stick around. In our case, I think there are too many owls (which are cool, but ….).

I'm glad Darwin is okay, but he's scaring me almost passing out and all.

JeriLynn - I'm glad your visit with your high school friend went well. It sounds like all of you had a great time.

For a baby, that heron looks kinda large.

Hi Iris - welcome back! Looking forward to hearing about your adventures.

HB - Yikes about the cardiologist.

And about the coffee? This is why I drink tea. I've only had one or two cups of coffee in my life - I don't like the taste, and I don't like the effects. It makes me really jittery.

Carl - The stress from caregiving is so real. A few years ago I got scolded by my dentist for grinding my teeth (I was unaware I was doing this). But guess what? Now that I'm not caregiving anymore, no more teeth grinding. I'm glad your BP is back to normal.

Judith - everything about that house is gorgeous.

Zetta - Fingers crossed about Boise! A high school friend lives there, she's lived there for decades now and she just loves it. She and Peggy were in the same class in high school, two years behind me, so we all hung out together. A five hour drive is not so bad at all (says the native Californian who was born with a steering wheel in her hand).

Today was a good day in my neck of the woods. Good gym day, lots of strength training and my pre-work out time on the treadmill. I got a lot of stuff done once I got home, which is also good. Death Guild starts in about an hour, looking forward to hearing some music and chatting with my online friends. I'm not feeling like I'll make it to the end tonight (2:30am). I predict I'll be done by 1am.

Judith, I remember pictures you posted years ago.of a house in Santa Fell but I think hat wss your house, wasn' it? I know I really like the architecture out there and in Albuquerque.

Thanks Zetta, I will look at those.bowls in the morning. I am happy you're going to be moving to a cooler place more like what you're used to. When will you know?

Stephen Colner's.show is being cancelled in May he said tonight. Says he can let loose now on what he really thinks about you know who.

I worry about Darwin, too. He said he stayed inside today but he is itching to get his mower home so he can mow his yard. It's about two acres and he mows every few days.

Just had some slushy Boost. The freezer in the refrigerator is super cold. Freezes Boost or Gatorade in an hour and looks like a snowstorm hit it.

Good.night, sleep tight. Pyrenees have already gone to the bedroom and Max, Lilly and Sammy are all in the recliner with me.
