Good morning. Another beautiful day on tap here.
It's World Brain Day.
Carl— It's great that your BP is down. I don't think we realize the impact caregiving has on us physically while we're in the midst of it. Mom's BP dropped to the point where she's off her BP medication(s) after dad died. Of course, now I'm the one with the elevated BP that my PCP and I are trying to get under control. I'm on my third formulation in a year and have drastically reduced my use of salt and am exercising. The diastolic is good but the systolic is all over the place.
Eaglemom— You're entering a photography contest to raise awareness around dementia? What sort of pictures have you chosen to send in?
Judith— That home reminds me of some I have seen in Medford Lakes, NJ. There's a whole community of log construction homes there; many are from the 1940s.
A pantry makes sense. I didn't see a listing photo; maybe I wasn't paying close attention.
Lorita— How do you know the squirrels are married? And to one another. They could be "Coldplaying"? Sorry, I couldn't resist.
Gothic G— I am mostly a tea drinker. And I did try to get some but they were out of my first 2 requests. I do like a nice iced coffee once in a while but this stuff was strong. They also 86'd the soup I ordered which was annoying as I only got the soup/salad combo for that soup and they'd already brought the salad instead of giving me the option to order something different. I was trying not to go full-Karen on them but damn they made it difficult.
Lady Z— My friend is being an idiot fighting with her nurses and doctor. She doesn't know better. She's very bright, but out of her depth here. She sometimes thinks she is a medical expert because she worked in Pharma doing the CMS compliance editing around medications. They sent her home with a lot of medications she's not been on before and she's not happy about it. She thinks they're causing side effects; they probably are but she needs to factor in the heart damage she sustained as well.
She wants to change to a doctor who works at her preferred hospital system, but the one she wants to see isn't seeing new patients and her later DH's cardiologist doesn't have an opening until September. I advised her to see the guy who is available for her post-op visit and switch when she can. We'll see if she listens.

I hope to get mom to go to the pool today. I need to order a gift for my niece as it's her birthday and I completely flaked on it. She's very into flower gardening and cacti. I've decided to send her a White Flower Farm peony collection. They'll send an email announcing it and then deliver in the fall for planting. And I need to figure out dinner.
Have a splendid day.

Good morning

Morning from hot, hazy and humid Oklahoma. Started out my day with an ocular migraine . After that went away watered the plants, gave the GPs fresh water outside and had to make four or five trips out filling the water tank at the barn hose flipped out once and then couldn't get the water flow set right. I need to put a float valve on the water tank so it will Stay filled.
There was a turtle in the path and tried to give him water but it soaked in. Rusty and wife ate the rest of the transplanted violets last night. Darwin had to go to town to get prescriptions refilled but he is home.now and Says be will stay in today and so will I.
Be safe out there.

Lorita…your memory is good. It was my first "investment" property. We lived in it very part time during the work.
We are all worried about Darwin.
Caladiium update…Talked with the Florida Boys this morning. Short version…She just shipped to Oklahoma…some people like to freshen their beds mid summer! She said they would grow very fast if planted now. The box has gone from the kitchen iswland to just inside the front door.
GG…what is Death Guild???

Judith, wasn't that the house where the picture of you and Dick wss taken that you used as your avatar years ago? Really good picture.
Update on Fern, the dog left in the trash bin.Last night on the news it said the woman who helped her live has taken her home with her.She is walking and has gained a few pounds. Police are still trying to find the nut who left her there and it showed a picture of him.
A day of two ago the animal shelter reported they could no longer take animals because they were out of funds. News just reported that within one day $145_000 was donated. Tulsa is really a caring city.
It's 92 in Tulsa with heat index of 97. Heat index here, per Alexa, is 103. Hay baling is in full swing,- You have to make hay when the sun shines. Whole Hawg Days is this weekend in Eufaula. I have never been, always too hot!

yes…it was a good weekend there…sigh
for more than one reason the house was under construction for 3 + years…it was usually possible to stay downstairs

It's 91 here with heat index of 100 and climbing. My yard needs work but it can wait. My BP is normal with pills night and morning, and some of them make me extra sensitive to sunlight. I filled the birdbath and pulled some weeds this morning, and that's it until evening.
I went to the senior center for lunch and ate shrimp lo mien, chicken fried rice, egg roll, mixed veggies, chocolate pudding, fortune cookie, a half pint of milk, and a can of donated Coke for $4. This is a real blessing for the people who have a hard time affording groceries. One woman told me a week ago that she had gone to the bank and her balance was only $125, so she withdrew $100 and went shopping. If that is your balance at mid-month, you'd better like rice & beans! If she were 19 I might suggest she get a job, but she's 90.
There is a "food truck" distribution at the senior center on Wednesday afternoons. A truck from Ozarks Food Harvest delivers stale sandwiches, salads, etc. donated by one of the convenience store chains, and people line up to get their share. I leave that to the people who need it.
I carved my cantaloupe last night at supper, and it was really good. Vine-ripened, locally grown fruit is so much better than the picked-green stuff sold at supermarkets!
Sounds like my laundry is about done. TTYL

Reminds me I need to do a load, too. I agree with you about home grown vegetables and melons being so much better. I'm afraid things will get much worse for people, Carl. Glad you can go to the Senior Center Your lunch sounds delicious. I can make a meal on fried rice. Charles was in Korea and Japan and he introduced me to that kind of food. We made it a lot at home and when we ate out it was usually the same.
Sears repairman just left. He had to take pictures of everything about the refrigerator. Said it was unusual and he didn't know what was going on.
Finished the Amox for Lilly this morning. Zetta, the soup worked good for getting her medicine down. Doubt it would for the Prednisone because it is so bitter. I have three of those left for all of them. FedEx just delivered the soup in bowls.
I think I might take a short nap. Some of the girls are standing in the pond to cool off. The rest are in the barn.
Judith, do you miss Santa Fe?

93 with a heart index of 102. Everyone has blamed me for bringing louisiana weather here with me. This is comfortable fir louisiana weather. Reminds me of when this louisiana boy stepped off the plane in Vietnam and everyone talking about how hot it was. I guess when it gets cold here I'll be complaining!

Lorita….No. Not one thing. It is not anything like it was in 1970-80.
When we left it was a community of very ill will. The Native Americans disliked the people of Spanish descent as well as the Mexicans and the white gentrifiers. The Spanish descendants hated the Native Americans, Mexicans and the "white people". I say white because I only remember seeing one black person…ever. The Plaza is one big jewelry store…gold jewelry not silver. All is lost.
If you wanted to visit and go to the Opera, walk up Canyon Rd and eat out it was fine but living? No. There was little left of what made Santa Fe wonderful. The area is an interesting study of how easy it is to strip a community of it's flavor.

I just saw the weather and it gets hotter each day. Nothing we can do about it except stay inside all we can.
Ron, is it as humid in Missouri as it was in Shreveport? That is our big problem, so many ponds and lakes.
Judith, we found that Rockway Beach and Eureka Springs had really changed from what it was in the ,60s and 70s. Guess it is changing everywhere.
Time for David Muir. Back later.

Yes…time does "march on"…always has…..
Caladium update…still inside on the chair
0 -
And always will whether we like the changes or not. Glad you found out about the caladiums. I thought the hot summer wouldn't be a good time to plant them. Mine are really pretty, huge leaves and so many. Their bulbs are much better than the ones I bought at WM a couple of years ago. Wish I could keep them from year to year.
Are you feeling all right now, Judith? Be careful if you get out in this awful heat.
I will say good night now to all our porch friends. Sleep well.

Lorita - Don't forget - Boost is great as a popsicle. I have enjoyed them that way.
HB - World Brain Day? Like brain health?
I tend not to go full-on-Karen, I'm a pretty patient person, but man, that lunch experience would not have made me happy.
"Coldplaying". Yes. 😄 Although, as a privacy advocate, I'm sure that this type of casual surveillance will be the subject of many a conference panel.
Hope dinner was tasty. We opted for salads.
Judith - Death Guild isn't anything sinister. It's a goth club I used to go to in person when I lived in San Francisco. Now I attend remotely. When the covid lockdowns happened, the guy who runs the club set up a chat feature on the DNA Lounge website, so those of us (back then, it was all of us) who weren't in SF, could participate online. So that's what I do. There are cameras in the club (casual surveillance) so we can see what's going on in the club, we can comment on the fashion victims, discuss our favorite songs, and whatever else strikes our fancy. The goth/industrial community is a real community. I'm pretty happy that goth clubs tend to skew older so I'm never the oldest person in the room. You have no idea how happy that makes me.
I remember that photo of you and your husband!
Carl - good cantaloupes are like little slices of heaven.
The weather was perfect on my side of the porch - low 70s and sun. I can't complain about that. Later on in the week we might get to the low 80s, which would also be fine. It's getting to be the time of year where I might have to go outside and water the plants!

Very humid here today. I'm sure the heat index will top 100 again. This is normal dog days weather in SW MO. Some years we have drought and the temperature goes to 105, and that is worse. I have seen it go to 115, but that's unusual. Ron, you are right about next winter. The cold, damp weather can be pretty uncomfortable, and I will be complaining right along with you. We don't have deep snow every winter, but I was snowed in for a few days last winter. I just stayed home, ate oats and beans, and waited for it to melt. A man across the street had a heart attack clearing his drive with a snowblower, but he has had stents and is OK. He's 15-20 years younger than I am and looks healthy (tall and slim) but you can't tell by looking.

GG, you probably know all about the band Project Pitchfork. I liked their song "Rain" and think you might as well. I found it on YouTube while looking for something else.

Morning, pretty nice early so filled the water tank, watered caladiums, and took Stormy for a ride around the east section.. There are pretty bales of hay South and northeast of us. Pretty soon almost of all of the section east will be full of bales.
Passed the house a mile east and there were five or six dogs in the road barking at us. The woman who lives there works at the animal shelter and she brings some home with her. I was surprised that Stormy didn't respond to the barking.
After we came inside I kept hearing Max meowing. Finally found him in The front bedroom. I keep the door closed and don't cool it.I don't remember being in there yesterday but guess I was.
There were probably twenty gir!s in the pond this morning cooling off before they came to the barn. One cow kept bawling and looking toward where they probably had been grazing. She bawled for a long time, went into the barn and bawled some more. She finally quit so guess she found her baby. I hope she did - sometimes they won't answer their mom.
Hope everyone is well today. Stay cool.

GG, thanks for the information re Death Guild. I was not familiar with that either.
We had quite a storm last night, wind, sky very, very dark and a short period of heavy rain. Lightning and thunder too. Interestingly enough, a couple of hours earlier, the skies were clear blue and the tornado warning siren went off. It was issued for several counties, including ours, but that tornado warning really involved area northeast of us. All is quiet this morning. I have dental appointment this afternoon and then we are going over to a friend's house.
Hope you all have a good day. Beth

I could not remember the pic so did some searching…it is not from Santa Fe…I miss him so…..

Good morning. The temp has been chilly here in SoCal because of the heavy marine layer. Yesterday I had to put on a light jacket. I'm still resting.

Wee bit of rain last night. Not enough to do any good for things that grow.
GG…thanks…now to google Goth club…lol
Iris…are you getting rested up?
Carl…so true. My daughter looks 45 but has aches and pains etc of someone 90.
Lorita… Have you looked into a different trash service? I am surprised that Sheena will not get into the car when you and Stormy are in it.
HB…It is wonderful that your mother goes to the pool. Can she get lunch there?
I guess that I can add photo organizing to the unclutter list!

Judith, yoh had short, mostly white hair but the pose wss the same.. Dark clothing, I think for both of you. Both pictures are sweet.
I know what you mean about missing them. This morning on Roseanne, her husband had had a heart attack and she said she had never felt so helpless because there was nothing she could do. Just hit me like a ton of bricks, because that is how it is.
Keep resting, Iris, you have travelled a lot of miles and have seen a lot of things.

We trapped a cat under our house once, about 50 years ago. We opened the crawl space to let it dry out after a heavy rain, then closed it with a cat inside. A day or two later, DW was home with the baby asleep and heard a cat begging to be let out. After she figured out where it was, she opened the crawl space and went inside until the cat was gone.

We had a feral cat who routinely gave birth under our house. I had forgotten that.
HELP! Photos are on my PC in Picasa. Now some are on my very old iPhone and have slid over onto my MacBook. I quest they made their way there when I plugged the phone in to charge it. I have no idea what to do with this.

Good afternoon, all. Hot today but with manageable humidity today. The rest of the week will be hotter and more humid.
Carl— You are so right that you can't tell by looking. My friend who had the heart attack? A thin woman who walks daily and eats a plant-based diet with the odd chicken, fish and soft ice cream. The first things she said when she called me from her hospital room after was that she was pissed to have had a heart attack before her ex-husband (they're still friends; she made his wedding cake for his second wedding) who has always been overweight, eats an unhealthy diet is has T2D.
The dairy store has local 'lopes today. There was a perfumes as I walked past— I have high hopes. The one I bought at the farm store was pretty good.
Judith— That's a great picture. What's a lovely couple you made.
Lorita— I didn't get the caladium love here until my friend included some in her garden this year. They're amazing and hers were just a Costco impulse-buy. Maybe I'll send her some for her birthday next year. Florida Boys? Are they really superior?

I food shopped and am taking a break before fixing dinner. Frozen ravioli from a local Italian market, a salad and a Chianti Classico that got a 93 in the Wine Spectator. I brought a hoagie home for DS and he's already eaten it. If he had his way, dinner would be at 3pm.
I need to pay some attention to mom tomorrow. I've been busy catching up here, so she's been left to her own devices. She did take her cart (I bought it from Bed, Bath and Beyond when they liquidated) to the grocery store and used it to tote her order home. This is the first she's done this. It's only 0.25miles to the grocery store and it gives her some of the independence she lost when she had to give up driving. She was quite proud of herself. I have PT on Friday; I hope I will be discharged from PT on my wrist.

Hello Porch Friends.
Yes, the move is on, we have to be in Bosie, by October 1st. We have the movers scheduled, we are now looking for a rental, close to where the SIL office will be. I'm looking forward to being back closer to Oregon, and my son. Also the cooler weather 😎
GG. Maybe i can meet your friend while I'm there. Then I will know someone in Idaho.
Judith. That is a beautiful picture of you and your DH, what a lovely couple you made.
Take care all of you, Hugs Zetta

Lorita…hmmm…short hair/dark clothes…what a memory you have…maybe it is somewhere in my PC.
HB…good for mom
I wish everyone would post a photo of themselves

I have been poking around on YouTube and found a stand-up comedian named Diane Spencer. My first thought was "Wasn't she King Charles' first wife?" but no, that was Diana Spencer, probably no relation. Diane is a lovely 40-something woman with a pastel pantsuit and English accent whose act is best described as "charming, witty, and filthy." She had a minor surgical procedure under local anesthetic, which pleased her as she likes to support local businesses 😉 The rest of her act was less repeatable 😱

Judith, the photo is beautiful! What a stunning couple you two were. If you have photos on your iPhone you can go to the Apple store and they will help you get them onto your Mac. Picasa pics? Maybe the Geek Squad can help.
HB, what a delight to be gifted a peony collection! Your niece will love it.
Hope all are well. Beth
