Hi, I'm glad it's working for you. Are you taking it in addition to the donepezil and memantine?

Hi there Stan2!! Yes, I am taking all three simultaneously. It appears they work maybe in different ways and or different areas of the Alzheimer's. I think I first started on the Memantine, then added Donepezil and the just recently happened upon the Galantamine and had my Dr. prescribe a 30;day supply I have been on it for I think like two weeks(?) and I can really feel it. You are going to giggle ... But it feels like my eye are wide open... A sensation I have not felt in a long time. Also I think I want to say some anxiety has decreased. I feel like I am thinking, not just about the moment I am in but my mind is just thinking about things in general (not racing mind, but clear concise thought??) way more than it has in the three years since diagnosis. It feels think a veil of gauze has been lifted from my mind. I don't have to work so hard to think. I would highly recommend you to give it a shot. It may or may not work with you but... No harm no foul right? I am on Medicare and having already met my annual deductible, the co-pay was zero. So it is definitely affordable. If you try it... Would love to hear back on how it went. Feel free to reach out if there are any questions or to chat

    GE Hill☺️

GE Hill, both donepezil and galantamine are cholinesterase inhibitors. Your dosage of donepezil is low. Perhaps you are seeing improvement because your dosage of cholinesterase inhibitor has been increased. Be aware not to exceed a safe dosage.

Thanks Iris!! I will see if I can get my Dr to increase Donepezil, not to exceed the maximum recommended when combined with the Galantamine. Appreciate the insight. 😊

My wife took Donepezil. It made her worse. That was over a year ago. She started Rexulti today. Hopefully that will work.

My DW has been taking Rexulti for about 4 months now. It was prescribed to her from her Psychiatrist to work along with her antidepressants so she will not feel sad all of the time. She also takes donepezil and memantine prescribed by her neurologist. My issue with the Rexulti is this. She is less depressed when she is not thinking about how the Alzheimers is affecting her. As her memory continues to fail she remembers less about having Alzheimers. So, is she less depressed because shes taking the Rexulti or is she less depressed because she doesn't remember what is happening. Every time we visit a doctor(and because of her multitude of ailments we see a lot of them) they prescribe more meds. They are like a bunch of pushers on the street corner.

This is a great discussion. My DH has been on donepezil and memantine just shy of 14 years. He has had no sick affects.

But what's important to remember is that each one of us is very different and our bodies react differently to different medications. Or the reaction might not be to that new medication, per say, but a reaction to something else your taking. That is why you always need to be truthful with your doctor and pharmacist about what medications you are taking.

Hi. I have Alzheimer's and have been taking Memantine and Donepezil for about 3 years. I am on the start of my second month of Galantamine and I experienced something yesterday that I have not experienced in a long long time. I almost always keep my phone in my hand, I live alone and it is like my security blanket for lake of a better term. I am usually very conscious of where and when I place it down so I do not loose track of it. (I do have alarms set so it rings every hour so that is the maximum amount of time I have to wait if I do misplace it 😁...But I digress). So I had set my phone down somewhere in my house absentmindedly and realized I did not have it in my hand and started to get that familiar panicked feeling BUT!!!! ... A split second later, in my minds eye, appeared an image of where I had laid it down!!!! I went to that location and.... There it was!!!! Because what had just occurred was previously second nature and not something out of the ordinary it took me a few seconds to realize what had just happened. It was pretty amazing feeling realizing what just happened. Anyways, the only thing I can account this to is the Galantamine I have been taking. I am/was an artist and previously all my art projects use to be "created" in my minds eye but I have really not done any art for about three years because my "minds eye" felt like it has been blinded and it can no longer see. I don't want to get too too excited about this one episode but maybe the Galantamine is having some significantly positive effect. (I hope, I hope, I hope, & keeping my fingers and toes crossed also just in case 😊) If your Dr. has not yet suggested/offered a Galantamine prescription , maybe check into it?? Has anyone else had such positive experience with Galantamine?? If yes I would be really interested in hearing about it. Thanks!!
