    good morning

Carl, thank you for your kindness to your SIL. Not only did you help her but you also helped her daughter immensely and I’m sure she appreciates it. My mom is the same way. I’m 67 years old and she will not believe me. She wants to treat me like I’m eight years old when I try to help her with something she’ll tell me I’ll ask them, and belittle me like I’m a child. Since she’s at assisted living, I do pretty well with it. I usually laugh about it. But still just a few days ago I went out to my car and cried. It is just such a helpless feeling when someone needs so much help but treats you that way. The good part is now I can just walk out and I don’t have to worry about her. And usually when I come back a few days later, it’s better. My sister that has been helping me since I was sick doesn’t feel able to do that any longer routinely. But another sister has stepped in so I’m very thankful for that it gives me three days of no contact. The other four days I usually take one day off out of those four days, for just myself so I really only have contact with her about three days a week. I feel guilty about that sometimes, but it is better for me and I think in reality it doesn’t bother her at all. My mom is so manipulative that it is hard to know what is real and what isn’t.

Glad you are getting a little rain Lorita.

a couple that go to church where I do they’ve had a lot of challenges for a while. Anyway, they are moving into a different home and so a girl asked some of us if we would all get together and go help them. So we did that yesterday evening and it was pretty amazing. There was probably around 20 of us there and in two hours that place had greatly improved. I felt like part an Amish barb raising lol. When I entered the house front room had red carpet. I got placed back in a small bedroom and it was not carpeted. There were several younger girls there probably like maybe ages 8 to 14 and they were amazing. They were cleaning the light switches, vents etc. When they walked into my room, they said this room looks good. That pleased me that they said that. I wasn’t sure how good I was doing. Then toward the end another lady came in and she helped me finish up. There was only one man there and he was 71 yo, he came into my room and took down the curtains and all the hardware for the curtains. So then I go to leave and walk into the front room there is no more red carpet. It was down to the I guess it’s called subfloor, I’m not sure. Anyway, it was ready for new flooring. Was a good experience. I didn’t even know the names of a lot of people there.

hope each one of you have a peaceful day

    Good morning

We are suppose to have rain this afternoon. That would be wonderful, because it will lower our temperatures also. I'd love to sit on the patio and watch it rain.

I did have a chat with DH's neurologist. For now we are not going to do anything. Hopefully it was a one time event. But if it happens again then it will have to be looked into. She said we'd call it a neurological event. She chose her words carefully & I appreciate that. She didn't want me alarmed or DH asking me questions & having to tell him a fib. (Since his diagnosis he is very suspicious of every little thing. An itchy finger, for example, he gets worried its something awful.) So hopefully it doesn't happen again, if it does we'll have to explore the reason.

Here is hoping for a great day for all. Let's be careful out there.

Sounds like you had a rewarding day, Mint. Always feels good to help someone who needs it. You've been such a good daughter to your mother but I know it's better for you to be able to walk away when things get testy and to know she will be cared for.

Believe it or not we not a little over 1.5" of rain. It's cloudy this morning and quite a lot cooler. Should be cooler for a couple of days. Aggravates me sometimes that the weather people won't let us enjoy the break in the weather too much for talking about how hot it will be in a couple of days. We still have 4-6 weeks before our weather will be cooler. I love fall with the cooler weather and pretty leaves.

Mike called early on his way to the clinic after working cattle. He called to see how much rain we got.. He was about seven miles away and said it looked like they only had a sprinkle. The rain is spotty. He talked about how bad the grasshoppers are and there are army worms everywhere (I haven't ǹoticed them here yet) but our neighbor has them along with some kind of beetles in his soybeans. I have seen yellow grasshoppers about 3": long. Farming and ranching is hard you have to worry about getting enough rain along with dealing with insects - but we love it. . No kind of life like it.

Time for juice and tea. Enjoy the day. Good morning, Sandy. Hope you slept well. So enjoyed our visit last night. nope you feel better today.

    ANT HELP NEEDED:

I put out 1 Terro bait. About 100 ants showed up. When it looked like the bait was loaded with ants I put out a second. Same thiing happened. I put out a third and spilled some. I feel like Leiningen.

I thought the ants were going to go back to the "ant house" and kill everyone. I just have more ants.

    Advise/information please.

Zevo! You know I have trouble with ants, too. I spray Zevo where they are and it instantly kills them. I spray and leave it there for a while before I wipe it off. Doesn't get rid of them forever but helps a while. As I typed this, an ant showed up on my tablet. Guess it's too hot outside for them. Zevo is safe to use around pets whereas other things are not. I have to think about that.

You see more ants for a while because the bait attracts them. Then in a few days they're gone.

Could be, they transmit where food or a good place to.be is to others. Remember er they ruined the mechanics in my generator a few years ago.

It's 78 but feels like 95. I took down some letters to the mailbox and took some diet Pepsi over to Darwin's and the road is muddy in places. Also they have put in a new tin horn across the road just east our driveway. Supposed to put a new one across my driveway but they haven't notified me about it. Ours is stopped up so water can't go through and just puddles on the west side and goes across the road when the ditch fills up.

Sometimes in dry weather I put some ant bait on the ground outside the kitchen window, hoping the ants will eat it there instead of in the kitchen. I don't know if it works or not.

Have you thought about installing a cattle crossing grate? Seems to me it would keep the water flowing as eliminate the need for some gate opening and closing.

Ants are pretty resourceful. A friend had ants and an exterminator finally located the nest in a ceiling light fixture. I always repot plants that I am bringing indoors for the winter. At least once I have found an ant nest in the flowerpot. Terro works because the ants take some to the queen, and there are no more baby ants after she dies. However, the rest of the nest comes to the bait until they have all had a taste.

Called my SIL this morning and she sounds much better. Washed a load of laundry, ate lunch at the senior center, dentist for cleaning in a little while. Having a quiet day so far, and glad of it.

Terro traps work best when you put several out at once and leave them alone.

While some ants do get trapped, many will return to the nest and poison the others. Depending on the size of your nests and the number, it could take a week to be done with them. Resist the urge to spray of clean up any you see. When I get ants, I am usually done with them within 4 days. I use 4 traps in my tiny shoe-box sized kitchen.

Mom's got a bigger kitchen and doesn't put out as many traps and her situation always takes longer than mine. I suspect her neighborhood is anty-er than mine.

OK…I will continue to simply watch the ants play around with the 3 baits.

We're inching toward 90 degrees here. It's getting a little warm for me, but I'm still in my comfort zone. For people who grew up here, 90 is blisteringly hot. Tomorrow we'll be back in the 70s, and by Friday we'll get rain.

HB - I went to youtube to find a clip of Lucy's dress. Wow. The dress is great, but the hat is better. And very, very large. I enjoyed seeing Cynthia from All My Children all dressed in funereal black. I'm sure she was a different character, but I never watched General Hospital so I don't know all of their names. She was a pain on AMC, and I'm guessing from her outfit that she was a pain on GH too.

I love the bat door knocker!!! So cute.

I hope all goes well at your PT appointment and that you get to graduate.

Wow Mint, that was a major undertaking! Really good of all of you to help out in that way. I'm sure they really appreciated all of your hard work.

My s.o. just finished making corn soup. It's pretty tasty, but I'm not sure why he chose a 90 degree weather day to make it. 😄

I have never had corn soup, GG but I bet it's good. Nice that you SO can cook. Charles was a very good cook. He cooked and I did most of the baking. I miss having someone to work with in the kitchen. Dandy, I think those Southern tea cakes are probably like the cookies grandma made. I doubt I will ever make them because if rolling out the dough. You could probably add a bit more milk and make drop cookies though.

Darwin took his wife to the dentist today for extractions and the dentist found that her guns had grown, or dropped, down onto.her teeth.. He fixed them so no extractions. I had never heard of that before. They only got .3" of rain and we got a little over 1.5"_ just a mile apart. It has been pretty.nice today but there was no wind.

Haven't really felt up to par today.but better tonight after napping this afternoon. Hope all of you are well today.

I will say good night. Sleep tight. See you all tomorrow.

    good morning

glad you got a good rain Lorita . We had a thunderstorm during the night and I see they’re giving some for today also. That’s good though we needed that I think. And then they’re giving it going back to sunshine so that’s really nice.

Judith I have used Terro successfully in the past. My experience has been similar to Carl and HB . That being said, last year I had never in my life had ants like this. I had ants everywhere. They were even in my basement, were in every room. It was wild, so I did end up having to use an exterminator, but I had pretty much controled the problem before I got them. I did something that probably was not healthy so I’m not gonna tell you what I did, but it did work and I did use terro to do it, This soring I had trouble with ants again, but only in my kitchen and I used Terro and I had to do it a couple of times at least, maybe three. But I read that they really do not like peppermint so I’ve cut peppermint off of my peppermint plant and just have it laying around on my countertop and I have not seen any more ants so whatever took care of it, I’m thankful.

    wishing everyone a peaceful day

    Morning

Y'all can just keep on taking care of the ants. I don't want them! Several years ago I saw a couple of ants on the formal dining room window ledge. I cleaned the window and ledge well then went out side and sprayed the window down. I made sure to clean out the window track so it was clean. Thankfully that took care of it. Either I drown the rest of the ants or I just had 12 ants gone rogue from somewhere.

We are playing Jeopardy today in our Zoom. That is one of the favorites. We give two answers for them to chose from. The group loves playing and boy is there a lot of discussion, talk and laughter that happens. Which is exactly why we have this program. DH loves this group, as do I. One of the people has been in the hospital and she joined every day from her hospital bed. They love each other and the program. Its such a blessing for everyone involved.

    Let's be safe everyone.

I don't have any ants this morning. I started poisoning them about a week ago, so it takes about a week. Victory! 🐜

Morning, I can't use any kind of poison to get the of ants because of the cats. Zero works pretty well but has to be repeated. I did use Terro in the generator until Anthony found some kind of spray that gets rid of them. Judith, check your generator for ants.

Now, any suggestions for getting rid of grasshoppers? Darwin just brought over some vegetables and told me the hoppers have eaten all the leaves off his tomato plants, just left the vines. That was just in two days. They were fine one day and two days later, no leaves.I went out with him, came in and fixed breakfast and sat in my chair to eat it. When I.got up they're was a dead grasshopper in the chair. Must have gotten on me when I was outside and then I sat on it and killed it.

It's already getting hot. Girls have gone into the barn for the day and I.guess Billy is in his building. Had thought I would go get some diesel in the PU.but changed my mind. Maybe tomorrow. Need to do donation letters today anyway.

The problem is my platelets are low. My PCP has ruled out autoimmune issues and tested for B12 (low normal and potentially an issue) and Folate (normal) levels as well. There's a possibility the spleen is "hoarding" platelets. I had the scan this morning. It seemed to take forever which has me freaking out. I have so far snapped at DS and DH. Do not come at me with petty crises when I am 15 hours into a fast, uncaffinated and convinced the u/s will show something terrible, OK?

I'm headed to mom's to "help" her pack. My niece complimented the capsule wardrobe I put together last year (the year before mom overpacked because one never knows when a semi-formal cocktail party or funeral are going to break out)— but this she requested more comfy knits and less tailored things that look uncomfortable to my niece. They'll see mom's sister one evening which will require a new ensemble auntie's not seen before.
