@eaglemom — I hope the meds kick in quickly and that DH is feeling better soon. Poor both of you.

For those following the trip from H-e-double-toothpicks— they hit the road at 10:12 am a full 3+ hours later after spending 45 minutes at friend's house. Niece texted that mom talked with her friend with Alzheimer's— loudly and on speaker— the entire drive from her home to friend's house.
I am so happy to be home. I need to shower— hand surgeon at noon.

HB, how long will the trip be? Best wishes at your hand appointment.
GG, it was so nice you could reconnect with your long lost friend.
I'm packing for my next trip, leaving tomorrow. I will check one large suitcase. In my mind I pack small, but items have a way of jumping into my suitcase at the last minute. 😀

good afternoon
I don’t know if you remember. I used to help a lady named Jean. She had issues with low platelets and I do not know the reason. It was a chronic issue and she did some reading and found out that could be useful. And they did help her in her case. I don’t know about how many you should consume, but you into that. You seem to be very good at doing research. I know I avocados each week.

Morning,Eagle, hope your husband's cough gets better soon. HB, also hope the trip works out okay.
My phone rang one time at 4:30 this morning. Some call from Conn., a number I have.blocked so couldn't really get back into sleep mode. I have shampooed my hair- cut about three inches off a day or two ago. Had been pulling it up and back which started to make my head sore. Will try something different now.
Chewy sent some glucosamine a day so ago and I left the pretty small box in the LR floor. Of course Lilly got in and then Sammy and they were fussing - box was too small for both.. Brought in another small box and now each one has their own box. They have been asleep for the last two hours, each in their own box. Really cute how much they like boxes. So, I have been taking it easy his morning and will do the same this afternoon. Going to be too hot to be outside. Heard this morning it is 39 days until Fall begins.
Iris, have you gotten rested up after your trip?

The hospice chaplain came by today. I told him about my day with my SIL, and he suggested I have the mindset and skills to work as a hospice volunteer when I have grieved a little longer and feel up to it. He also recommended the grief support groups, for my benefit and also because he thinks the groups would be better with me in them. That's very flattering, and I will at least try the support groups. There is a men's breakfast group that meets monthly in a restaurant, and an evening group that meets in a church and is more of a seminar with films.
Mint, I've heard avocados are really good for us but I never knew exactly why. If I can improve my health with a bowl of guacamole and a plate of chips, I'm all for it! 🥑
It is hot and dry here, but I guess I can stand 39 more days of summer. Not that I have a choice. Keep cool, porchies.

Good for you, Carl. That would probably be good for you, too. You have a good sense of.humor that might come in handy and you know what they are dealing with. I say, Go for it.
Judith, I will check imgredients, they may have changed. We used to sprinkle everything in the garden with it to get rid of bugs. We even dusted the dogs for ticks.
Going to bed early. Good night.

I will be on a cruise to Alaska. My suitcase weighs 34 lbs. I don't know how to pack light.
Everyone, stay safe!

Good morning Porch Friends,
I’m reading but have been occupied since clearing out the AL apartment. You cannot see the multitude of boxes and tubs full of Lenox china Christmas decor, clothing, etc. I have informed DH this will NEVER happen again.
DD is driving down from Ohio to collect the bedroom suite. Another greatgrand is coming to collect the hall tree, mirror, mattress and adjustable frame. I finished decking out her kitchen from the cookware and serving bowl collection here. A lot of the very nice clothing has been gifted to another greatgrand. Maybe after some of the big stuff is gone, I can get to unpacking all the china and porcelain. There is a 6 foot tall glass curio cabinet behind there somewhere. I just some room to work. I'm exhausted.
Iris, I hope you have a wonderful Alaskan cruise! I would love to sail away with you, lol.
Judith, glad the ants are leaving you.
Carl, I think you would be perfect as a Hospice volunteer when you are ready. Glad you were able to comfort your SIL.
HB - waiting with anticipation for the rest of the trip story! And I love that doorknocker!!!
Mint, I love avocados spread on toast or just scooped out of the skin. DH, not so much. It was good of your church family to help that couple. Love in action.
Eagle, that was scary. Hopefully your DH feels better soon.
Beth, with this picture you know I envy that beautiful, clean garage you have!
GG, I'm glad you found your friend again. How about your LA and SF friends? Are they managing ok?
Ron, you have a beautiful set of girls and a handsome grandson. I'm glad you're surrounded by a loving family.
Zetta, hopefully you all find something suitable soon. Moving is stressful, at best.
Let's everyone be safe in this miserable, and dangerous heat!

Lorita— cats + boxes = bliss
Ron— How did your appointment with the acupuncturist go?Iris— This is a long weekend. They'll be home late Sunday. They made better time than we did on the same route and are current at the hotel. Or at least mom's phone is.
34# is bad for Alaska and the range of clothing you'll need.
Carl— I could totally see you in the role of peer support. I think you'd be brilliant.
Jerilynn— Oof. That's a project you got there. I'm glad some of the things can go to the younger folks starting out.
What is it about Lenox? That's stuff proliferates like no other. I have some of the Christmas tableware, but I know people who have serious addictions.

I got a text from my PCP during dinner; my phone was in my bag but I saw it on the watch. My ultrasound was mostly normal aside from a small lesion in my right kidney which has a triggered a rescan in 6 months. The spleen is normal sized and evidently not hoarding platelets. I've been turfed to hematology.
I hope everyone has a safe day.

Morning filled the water tank and watered the caladiums, vinca, sweet potato vines and the tree Darwin transplanted for me. Some of the girls are sill out grazing before it gets too hot. I'm in for the day, I hope. LR tv is acting up. I am so tired of dealing with things going wrong. Ready for some calmness with everything working. Enjoy the day and try to stay cool.

good afternoon
Iris, I would enjoy seeing Alaska. My dad spent I think a year in the army there and he talked a lot about it.
oh my JeriLynn, I hope my garage never looks like that. That would overwhelm me. I’m too old for that anymore. I don’t have help anymore either other than my nephew with me. He would have trouble handling that though with his ADHD.

Judith, get a couple of bottles of Zevo to spray where you see them. Spray and let it stay on a while before you wipe it off. It will be colder weather in a few weeks and maybe they will leave,- until next summer. Hate to say those things but I have been dealing with them for years. Nutty thing -I typed this and my tablet wrote enjoying instead of dealing. Sometimes I feel like the world is against me.

Hello Front Porch Rockers.
We finally found a nice 4 bedroom home in Bosie Idaho. It's only 3 miles from where my SIL, works and it has everything my DD, was looking for. The movers will be here and load us up on September 29tn and we will leaving here on September 30. My SIL and Fiona, his dog will be going in his truck, and my DD, myself and Molly and the 3 cats will all go in her car. The drive will taks 2 days. Im not going to miss this Arizona heat. 🥵
We had a monsoon last night, lots of wind, rain, lightning and thunder. I slept through it all but it sure smelt good outside this morning. It made me miss Oregon more.
Carl. I agree with the others, you would be the perfect person to help those people deal with what you know their going through.
Iris. Enjoy your vacation, I hope you don't get too cold in Alaska.
I'm doing my best trying to keep up with you all, busy bees.
Lorita. It's time for me to go Wagon Train, is starting, then Gunsmoke.
Hugs to all Zetta

It can take a while. Especially if you have a larger or multiple infestation.
My mom kept cleaning up after hers and it didn't work as fast for her as it did us.0 -
My ants are back too 🐜🐜🐜 I think a new family has taken the place of the old. I have put Terro out, and they are on it like kittens on a mama cat.
Speaking of cats, there's a Goth cat grooming service in town. They call it Catacombs. 🐱
Had a luau at the senior center today. People wore Hawaiian shirts and paper leis, and my neighbor Gary brought his karaoke rig and sang Beach Boy songs. 🏝️ Fried chicken, mashed potatoes and veggies for lunch, Bingo afterwards.
Alaska is beautiful. I hope that 34-pound suitcase includes a jacket, it's cold in northern Alaska no matter what month it is. When we were there, we took a side trip on a smaller boat to see whales and seals, and a pod of orcas came straight at the boat, leaping out of the water. They dove under our boat and continued across the bay, just playing and saying "Hello." Even the tour guides were excited!
Thank you all for your support. I probably will volunteer for hospice. I wouldn't have thought of it on my own, but if a hospice chaplain and my friends think I'd be good in the role I should probably give it a try.

Good grief, JeriLynn, what a mess! One of the many things my wife did for the construction company for which she worked was order rolloff dumpsters to be delivered to construction sites. Just saying.

Zetta, I'm glad you're getting to move north. Parts of Arizona are beautiful, but you have apparently been living in the other part.

Hi, I was almost scammed. Do not answer any calls from area codes 856 or 202. .. Contacted credit card company involved and my financial institutions and they think it was an attempted scam, too. Cyber and fraud prevention dept. Is what they said they were. Gave them no Information - Just be careful. I.normally do.not answer calls from numbers I don't recognize but was waiting for a call from Sesrs. I told them I wasn't going to go any further and that I didn't know who they were. They hung up. It.is disconcerting - they sound so official with badge numbers, case numbers, etc. Just had an odd feeling about it.
Judith, that's what you are concerned about now. Trace their path and spray there and don't wipe it off. You may have to respray daily but it does work. When I see ants I just spray.
Zetta, Wagon Train wasn't. On here today. The Virginian is on in their space once or twice a week. Glad you all have the right place. I know you'll. Be happier there.
Have a good trip, Iris. My.vet's wife and her friend went a couple of years ago and enjoyed it...At the least, it will be cooler. Good, safe trip! Back.later

Those scammers are pros, they know how to sound authentic. Glad you recognized them for what they are!

HB - the colors at Burning Man, especially the sky, are vivid. But, some days you get those great blue skies, and some days, you get this:
And that can turn into white out conditions where you can't see anything. So much dust. All you can do is stay inside your shade structure, tent/RV, etc., and wait it out. Burning Man is not a vacation. 😄
I'm glad your scans are mostly good.
eaglemom - I'm glad you guys have prescriptions for your DH!
Iris - I hear you on those odd items finding their way into suitcases. Hey, you never know when you're going to need "that thing".
Carl - guacamole and chips - sounds good to me!
And you know what Carl, you have a way about you (it comes through on line), I bet you'd be a great volunteer at hospice.
Speaking of cats, there's a Goth cat grooming service in town. They call it Catacombs. You had me going there for a very short bit. 🙂 I like it!
JeriLynn - I'm tired just looking at that garage. It's daunting.
D & V in SF made it back home from their trip to the east coast, so I'm glad about that. I just talked to D (from Team Peggy) who's in LA, and she's doing well. Thank you for asking about them!
Zetta - yay!!!! I'm glad you guys found a good place in Boise. Let me know when you get settled and I'll connect you with my high school friend who is also in Boise. She and Peggy were in the same class year together, so two years behind me. She loves it there, and her DH and kids have been there for decades now.
Lorita - my computer security s.o. almost fell for a scam yesterday. He got an email or text (can't remember which), that said we had a UPS delivery. Ahem, of course we didn't. As soon as the words were out of his mouth, he said, "oh wait, it's malware."
As for me - I got my 5th gym day in today. Going 5 days a week is rare for me, but for some reason I was game for it today. This afternoon I had a doctor appointment and she was really happy with me. My numbers are looking good. Last time I was in she gave me a hard time about eating protein bars before I go work out with my trainer. They're processed for sure, probably even ultra-processed, but in the grand scheme of things, I don't eat very many of them, and if I know I'm doing cardio for an hour, I need something like that to get me through. She told me I should eat a handful of nuts before I go in to the gym. It took everything I had not to burst out laughing when she said that. There's no way I'd get through one of those workouts on a handful of nuts.
So, I've been writing down what I do each workout, how long I work out, and I listed every single thing I ate for the last month as prep for this appointment. I showed that list to her today. I'm confident we'll never talk about a "handful of nuts" again.

Hello GG! I finally made it to Seattle. My plane was two hours late leaving Las Vegas. People don't dress for air travel nowadays, they dress more for the beach.
Every day I checked the weather and it was always clear. But today it is pouring down raining in Seattle with fog. The taxi driver said the rain started this morning and will last about three days. Ugh!
Mint, I was stationed in Alaska, at Eielson AFB outside of Fairbanks. Was your dad stationed in Fairbanks or Anchorage? Fairbanks got cold, down to 60 degrees below zero! But the service made sure that we were prepared for extreme temps. It's good that you and the others gathered together to help the family clear up their place.
Carl, I too think you will be a wonderful hospice volunteer. But be sure to take some time for yourself before you get involved in a commitment.
Eaglemom, I hope your DH's cough is better. Perhaps his neurological event was related to pneumonia?
HB, I'm glad your spleen ultrasound was normal. I hope the kidney nodule turns out to be nothing significant.
As time goes on, I am getting more and more wearied by the packing and the gathering together of things leading up to packing. I am worn out before the cruise! Going on this Alaskan cruise is especially difficult because I didn't know what the weather would be like, so I packed for different weathers. Also, since I will be with a group at dinner, I will dress for dinner. Then there are two "formal" nights plus an "Orange Party" when cruisers are encouraged to wear something orange.
Since I'm not with my regular travel club, I had to make my own air and hotel and transfer arrangements. That too was hard. I got in late ao no time for dinner. Fortunately I had the thought to purchase a Jersey Mike's sandwich, which I ate for my dinner. I'll have breakfast in the morning then go off to the Cruise ship, where I can eat to my heart (and stomach)'s content. Especially since it will be raining all the time.
My hotel is very nice. I got upgraded to a jacuzzi room. This room is great, with a bench for the luggage, a king-sized bed, microwave, mini-fridge, large shower, and a big-screen tv. Here is the jacuzzi.
JeriLynn, is that your garage? I'm not going to talk about it, I have my own issues.
Zetta, it's so nice that your family found the house they were looking for in Boise. You'll be back to weather and scenery you're more comfortable with.
Lorita, it's great that you recognized the scam right away! We do have to be so diligent nowadays. Area code 202 is for Washington DC.
Lorita, I hear you about things not working. They don't make them like they used to. There is planned obsolescence so things break down and cannot be repaired, so we have to buy a new thing. This is not an accident, I believe it is by design.
Lorita, Judith and Carl, could you all use boric acid mixed with a bit of sugar? It might be less toxic to the environment. They take it back to the nest and the queen.
Well, it's late, I need to rest up for tomorrow. Good night.
Iris

Planned obsolescence is real. Way back about 1958, Vance Packard wrote a book called "The Waste Makers" in which he described the engineering that went into making sure products lasted through the warranty period and no longer. Packard said product engineers wouldn't like it if their pencils had only two inches of lead in them and coined the term "planned obsolescence." A lot of product design has been done since then, and planned obsolescence has become more of a fine-tuned thing.
Cars seem to be the exception. Cars and tires last much longer than they did years ago. Other appliances, not so much. Our 1967 can opener lasted 50 years, the second lasted about two years, the third is showing its age.
