Glad you all made a safe trip, Beth. We were in Northern New Mexico years ago in October and the Aspens were gorgeous. Guess it's just a bit early for the yellow leaves.
Eagle hope your husbands doctor appointment doesn't show it is his neck and he feels better soon. I have had that talk with Darwin telling him he has to be careful so he can care for his wife. He agrees but he doesn't know when to quit,- has to cut one more limb, etc. Now he Is talking about pulling down a dead tree with his PU. He is fine mentally, just forgetful sometimes.. I'm glad I thought to take the ice cold Boost and cold water when I went over. He is a small man, kind of stooped and shuffles when he walks but strong.
I know, Judith but like him, just one more thing before I finish.. Almost overdid outside this morning - put air in tire, filled water tank, carried water to plants, cut weeds in lot and cut big, old poke plants along the lot fence, then cut low hanging branches north of the house in the driveway. Like him - just one more thing before I finish.. That was early.but the heat gets to you before you know it.
I hope he stayed in today because it has been hot. He mows his big yard every four days, always doing something. His place is immaculate and that includes pastures and meadows.

Lorita, It sounds like Darwin can't sit still! I know other people like that.
0 -
He can't , Beth. He has always been used to being busy and can't stay in the house. He does all their cooking so that occupies some of his time.
What did you all do today and how is the weather? Heat index here today was 99.
Think I will go to bed early. Good night, sleep tight.

We drove and walked in Rocky Mountain National Park yesterday. Here is something interesting that we saw: the Alluvial Fan.
The Alluvial Fan was created through the Flood of 1982. See below for story.
It is reported that the deposit of rocks and soil and sediment from the flood reaches a depth of 42 feet in some areas.
Below, some pics of the Alluvial Fan. It is a beautiful area.

Good morning all,
It’s been a busy week but I don’t feel that I’ve accomplished much. When my father and stepmom died, I was tasked with clearing out their house. In Missouri it was common to have an auctioneer come in and sell off the household items. It was great because I didn’t have to deal with that part.
I’m being pretty aggressive with clearing out our things now. I don’t want my stepson to have to deal with our junk.Lorita - I don’t even know Darwin but worry about him! You too because it sounds like you do so much. Having acreage and critters is constant work.
Carl - I got a kick out of the comment about speed dating in the senior lunch line. I’ve been thinking about taking my husband to the senior nutrition lunch center so he has a bit of social interaction.
Zetta - I envy your move to Boise. Before my husband’s diagnosis I was looking at moving to Colorado or Idaho. Arizona to Idaho is quite a change! Have you lived in Idaho previously? I would welcome the change even from the CA heat
EagleMom - I’m sorry for your husband’s neck issue, it sounds complicated and painful. I think I’ll follow your lead and tackle my junk drawers. TY!
Had a huge oak tree limb come down yesterday that’s blocking most of our driveway. The “tree guy” I hire is coming this morning to take a look at it and let me know when he can clear it. Hopefully sooner rather than later. Once upon a time my husband could cut it up but chainsaws are out of the question now.
Cooler weather this week which I’m loving. I’d much rather be cold than hot.
Be safe and take good care all.

Beth, somehow I missed your pictures from yesterday. The Aspens are beautiful. We saw them mixed in with pines from a distance and thought they were bare places. Sounds like you're having a good time!
My ribs are very sore on both sides, I guess from cutting weeds and those little branches with loppers. Saw another.big limb blown down in the yard and another big one just hanging. So many trees are dying and breaking.
Groceries were delivered and are put away. I was in the bedroom a while ago and heard lots of noise in the kitchen. Hurried in and there was a full-blown fight going on between Sammy and Stormy. Sammy.hisses at Stormy but this.is the first time it has come to.blows. The other cats were mixing in a.bit to help Sammy. Kept yelling st them and they finally separated. The GPs are outside. Guess I can't leave them inside while I'm gone anymore. I may have caused some of this. I put some catfood down but Stormy wasn't in the kitchen but evidently he came in. Sammy hasn't been neutered so will ask Mike if that might help. I can't put him outside and hate to give him away. Always a wrinkle or two or more. What do you all think I can do about this?
Zetta, does Molly get along with your cats? Sounds like things are winding down for you in Arizona. You'll get back up north in time for winter!
0 -
Good morning Rockers.
Lorita. Darwin and you both need to be more careful, you both have lives depending on you. I hope your ribs start feeling better. After I've had a coughing spell my ribs hurt, but not for long. Yes, Molly, gets along with all ths cats, she thinks she's ths boss. The cats each have a travel bed with a disposable potty and a place to sleep. We will put the seats down in my car, there will be lots of room for the cat tents in my car. Molly, will keep a eye on them, she's the boss, she loves being in the car.
Eagle. I sure hope your DH, is feeling better today. I would think with a person's neck hurting, that would be very painful.
Eve. I'm from Oregon, so I prefer the cooler weather. I moved to Arizona, a year ago, to live with my daughter and her DH, I love living with them, but i hate the Arizona, 🥵 heat 🥵 where we will be living in Bosie, is only 5 hours away from my place in Bend, Oregon where my son lives.
Beth. Your pictures are beautiful, thanks for sharing.
Your all in my thoughts, Hugs Zetta

Eve, your tree limb in the driveway reminded me - the neighbor whom I don't know lives a mile straight east of me had half a huge tree fall across their driveway. That was about a year ago. It hasn't been moved but they took out the middle limbs enough to.drive under.
I rubbed my ribs with analgesic cream and they feel better, thank you, Zetta.
Eve, Darwin went to town this morning for groceries. He goes at least once weekly. I have told him I would be happy to.order them for him.but I think he likes to go. Maybe he will let me do that this winter. I don't do nearly as much as I used to when I was feeding the girls in all kinds of winter weather and watching closely when it was calving time. I miss doing those things. I sold our girls a few months after Darwin sold his. He says he misses feeding and caring for his, too. Mine are still here but no longer mine.I do be to see them and sort of watch over them. Our vet bought them and has my.place leased so he and his hired hands feed them.
I let Stormy and Sheena back in and the minute Sammy saw Stormy he. began hissing at bim. I put him in the sunroom.
Back later.

Zetta - Washington and Oregon are other areas I think id like to move to. It’s all a moot point for now because of my husband’s disease, but I still enjoy looking for a home with a few acres in other states. It’s nice that you’ll be somewhat close to your son.
Lorita - I’m so blessed. The tree guy already came to check out the work I need done and brought a chainsaw with him and cleared the driveway. He said even if I didn’t hire him for the job, he’d have cleared the driveway anyway. He’ll be back next week to remove the rest of the tree, buck the wood and chip the limbs.
What a win-win situation with your vet! I don’t ride anymore but keep my 3 horses because they do great at keeping weeds/grasses eaten down, but mostly because they’re like therapy for me, just seeing and hearing them. They have full access to our property, including right up to the house.Feeling grateful.

Whew…the morning flew by. Now back to laundry.
0 -
Eve, I know what you mean about therapy - just being with the horses or cows. If I feel really down it helps so much to just go out and sit with the girls and talk to them. Not on the ground because they are curious and surround you if you're on the ground.
Judith, I'm doing laundry, too. The washer is acting weird. Have to keep turning it on and off, then finally works.. That may be the next hurdle. I am tired of hurdles!
Are any of you familiar with oil filled heaters? I ordered a Heater last year but got afraid to use it and returned it. Just had a Heater delivered and it's oil filled.Did not see that when I ordered it. They sound dangerous to me. When I had part of the Bedroom floor replaced I had them cap the propane outlet. Had not used it for many years. I have the LR Heater but don't leave it on at night because of the cats so only have a couple of small heaters I leave on at night. I don't know if they're safe with that hot oil inside. Just wondering.

Hi everyone - happy Saturday.
I'm finally up and back online. I got my covid vaccine on Thursday, an my flu vaccine yesterday at my doctor visit. Between the two of them, I was out cold from about 10pm last night until 11am this morning. Feeling so much better now. 🙂 Then the internet went out. It was out for a couple of hours (who knows why), but it's back now.
Like a few of you, I'm also doing laundry. And cleaning the bathrooms and all that good stuff.
JeriLynn - I hear you about "the stuff". There was a time a couple of years ago where I still had way too much of my parent's stuff to go through, plus all of Peggy's stuff. So many times I wanted to just "take to my bed." Ugh. I'm glad all of that is over, it was kind of overwhelming. So yeah, I know how overwhelmed you must feel.
HB - probably the hardest clean out was when we emptied my aunt's house (my favorite aunt). I hated going through her stuff - it felt so invasive. It was almost traumatic. To this day I miss her.
Beth - loving your photos!!! Makes me want to go out hiking. I'd forgotten all about alluvial fans. I used to know about those because I took a couple of geology classes back in the day.
Lorita - I have nothing about the cats. I've always had girl cats together, or just one boy cat, never a mixed bunch.
Eve - I can vouch for Oregon and Washington (even though I'm a California girl). Portland, OR, is really nice - I could imagine living there. I had aunts and uncles in southern Oregon and that was pretty too, although in a different way. And Washington is just — green and pretty. You have to be okay with the rain though.
Zetta - a five hour drive from Boise to Bend? That sounds very doable to me.
Soooo, today is Peggy's birthday and it feels a little weird. Last year was the first birthday after her death, but only six months had passed by, which felt like no time had gone by. This year is different. I'll be chatting with D & M (the core of Team Peggy) later on today, just to reflect and remember the good times.

Good evening.
Beth— Those pictures from your trip are just lovely. I'm glad you were able to get away.
Mint— Good news on the garage door. I'm having mine serviced on Wednesday; it needs new weather stripping.Eaglemom— I hope the appointment Tuesday goes well. Your description of your DH's posture sounds almost like "tech neck"— does he spend a lot of time with smaller screens?
Carl— Mom's from the ironically named Silent Generation— more beatnik than hippie. I'm peak Boomer but I identify more Generation Jones compared to my first wave Boomer DH who is 10 years older. I recall self-fabric belts, chain belts and macrame belts. And I remember people repurposing the fabric from vintage ties to make long skirts, bags and vests but don't recall mom using them as belts. In that era, dad's ties would have been wide enough land a plane on. This particular tie is a fine wool plaid. They were married in August, so it was certainly an interesting choice. He was in the service and didn't have a lot of civilian clothing, I guess.
Lorita— I hope you listen to your ribs and take it easy for the next couple of days.
I'm kind of surprised Mike hadn't pushed neutering Sammy when he was younger. An intact Tom who isn't having his needs met can develop some challenging behaviors. I've never had issues with cats and dogs coexisting peacefully. My St. Bernard's best friend was the cat and the dachshunds I had when I was little got along with the cat well enough that the cat would sneak into the cupboard and distribute Milk Bones for all 3 of them.
Eve— Being in or among the natural world is a wonderful way to reset emotionally. I envy you your equine lawn crew. Pictures?

DH picked up some sort to stomach bug Wednesday. Today was my turn. Yuck. What a waste of a gorgeous day.
I got my dryer repaired yesterday, car repair Wednesday and a new battery last week. Burning money here. I have calls in to get our gutters cleaned. Monday I'm supposed to get an estimate for some exterior painting and Wednesday morning is garage door repair. I lost 2 shutters last winter in the storms. I need to deal with that as well. It can be hard to get folks to come out for the more minor jobs.
I hope you all have a pleasant evening and sleep well.
HB1 -
HB - Sounds like a busy week for you. Being the sole person in our household that manages all the repairs and maintenance is mentally draining. Not having anyone to talk things over with or get input from. Sorry you’re having to deal with so much.
Apparently I’m remiss in not taking many pics of “the boys”, but here’s one from this spring when things still green. From left to right are Boogie, Chance, and Jack, doing what they do best… eating.
3 -
Really.pretty boys, Eve. They look as happy as can be eating that nice green grass. We lost our horse, Buck, a few years ago- he was about 34. I still miss him. He took care of the girls moving them from pasture to pasture and protecting them.

That's beautiful country, Beth. Thanks for the pix. Thanks to you too, Eve. Now I know what Chance Rider means!
HB, I wore some of those belly warmer ties in the early 70's. One of my gaudy looks involved a 4" wide red tie, a multi-striped shirt in which the red stripe matched the tie, and a wide-lapelled khaki suit matching another stripe. The ties worn as belts were the skinny ties we discarded when the Carnaby Street look became fashionable. My secretary wore a sheer white blouse with a pink bra and matching panties that a person sitting at a desk could see under her black miniskirt whenever she whirled around. One my coworkers said he lost ten minutes production time every time she walked by. He should have seen what she wore to parties!
I hear you all about having it all to do. I just emptied the dishwasher and started a load of laundry. It's easier than it was 100 years ago, though. My grandmother had a 1920 book on how to keep house (probably a wedding gift, she and Grandpa were married that year). It included chapters on treating childhood illnesses, making a garden, and keeping chickens, as well as cleaning and cooking. In those days, washing dishes and doing laundry required drawing water from a well and heating it on a wood stove. One of my mother's childhood friends didn't even have a clothesline. Wet laundry was spread on bushes to dry.

Eve, I loved seeing your horses! I had horses from the time I was 11 y.o. to 19 - a pony first, then Quarter Horses. I rode in horse shows. Those were some of the best years of my life. Tell us about your horsey life!
Just went out to dinner and it was good. I'm now stuffed.
Sleep well. Beth
1 -
Lorita - Buck sounds like a great horse, protecting his girls. I’m sorry you lost him. Boogie and Jack are 33 and aside from one choke episode have been healthy and easy keepers.
Carl - You’re spot on with recognizing the significance of my screen name.
Beth - my horsey life is a bit boring! I had a step brother in Missouri who trained horses. So when we bought our property in CA I went to Missouri to buy the boys. The first time I was ever left alone with a horse was when we trailered 2 of them to CA. We boarded the boys with a trainer for a few months while we took western riding lessons from our trainer. Unfortunately my husband was in a car wreck that broke his back in 3 places, ending our riding. I love my pasture pets and consider them part of my “therapy”. Ironically I’m allergic to them. Even though we stopped riding we volunteered with a large animal emergency evacuation group under the direction of OES and our animal control.
How awesome that you rode during those early years! I always wanted horses but it didn’t happen until I was about 50. Never give up on dreams I guess.0 -
Morning, Eve, I never rode Buck. He was our nephew's horse. He was an Appaloosa but only had a few spots on his back, !ooked like a buckskin. He was only green broken but he rode him some until he threw him one day. It was our nephew's fault. He was riding him and mother gave him something to take to the mailbox. Eric threw his hand up in the air and yelled and off he went.Never rode him again. He was only green broken.. I could feed him carrots and later in his life I gave him Bute which he took wil!Ingly.
Buck was in the barn and had a heart attack and we lost him. Really a shock to find him that way. A neighbor helped me get him out and he buried him down in the pasture he loved. A few days later I was out in the pasture and had this vision seeing Buck running with the girls with his mane blowing in the wind. When I was young I had a Pinto- Flash, that I rode some. He was feisty.
I'm sorry your riding came almost to a stop after your husband had the accident. I hope he is well now. You are with your boys and enjoy them that way. They have a good home and that's what is important, and they have each other for companionship..
Had an interrupted sleep. About 2 this morning Li!!y wanted out of the sunroom, next door to the bedroom. So that awakened me. Back to sleep and an hour or so later Sheena wss pacing. She had to have a drink and Stormy went outside. Back to sleep finally, then the alarm. And now, Sandy, it's almost time for the morning newshows . So enjoyed our visit last night. Hope you slept well. Back later.

I know I have posted these before, posting for Eve to see. Those were good times. Eve, your horses are beautiful and I'm glad you are taking good care of them. Sorry you cannot ride anymore.
Bobby He was my favorite. I mainly rode Western, but did some English too
Kim Bobby and Kim had the same sire, "Two Eyed Jack."

GG, Lowe's has skeletons and a wide assortment of Halloween decor. Our neighborhood is all in on Halloween. Lots of kids. Lots of candy. Many yard decorations. Several have skeletons that are probably 10 or 12 feet high. A neighbor also has a skeleton dog; the dog has a leash and the human is holding it. If I remember, I'll take a picture sometime.
Lorita, that's great that you donated useful clothing for others to enjoy. I periodically will donate clothes as well; someone might as well get use out of them if I am not going to. I also have been known to go to thrift stores and purchase household items and clothing.
Eagle, I hope your DH is feeling better. This has been going on for a long time. It must be exhausting.
Mint, how have you been? I miss your newsy posts but as they say, No news is good news. I'm glad your mom is settled and you are accomplishing some things on your home that you wanted to. I pulled my tomato plants. They were very slow to ripen. We had as many as we wanted to eat, and gave away plenty. I was getting tired of dealing with them.
Tigers mom, that was great of you to donate what you felt you could your DH's things, especially the bike. I know they are appreciated. You don't need to rush yourself in donating. Do what feels right to you. You too, Carl.
I don't know why that link turned green???? Anyway, hope this information is useful. I am glad you are feeling better, Iris. Any trips coming up? I "arm chair" travel with you; so appreciate your photos and narrative. Scandinavia is on my bucket list.
We are staying in a one bedroom condo. It's about 2 miles from Rocky Mountain National Park. There is a river flowing in front of it (it's a very shallow river; where I come from it'd be called a brook.)
GG, here medical appt check ins are 2 fold. 1) They send you an email or text and have you fill out the demographics, etc - and if you don't comply, they give you an iPad in the office and make you do it. 2) You walk up to the receptionist and let them know you are there. They may or may not copy your insurance cards.
JeriLynn, sorry about your washer and all the "stuff" you are sorting through. Not fun. Your dogs are beautiful.
HB, hope your weather is still nice. Where we are, it was 47 yesterday morning. At home, highs are in the 90s now (not characteristic but not unheard of).
Ron, Carl, Sandy, Marie, Judith and others, hope you are all doing well. Enjoy your day.

We also had an appy that we never rode, a beautiful silver/grey. He belonged to a neighbor friend who lost his ranch in a divorce so we took in Sparky and 3 old dogs.
I imagine Buck had a good life, enjoying his pasture time and carrots. I get great joy watching them run up and down the hills on our property and lining up when it’s dinner time.
My husband’s back healed well, only now we’re pretty solidly in about later stage 4 sneaking into 5 with his ALZ.
I’m sorry your sleep was interrupted. I have a hard time being productive after not sleeping well. Thanks for sharing your Buck story.

Beth, thank you for posting your pics! Your smile says so much! Beautiful horses. My Jack and Boogie have the same sire. Boogie has a calm, easygoing disposition whereas Jack is a train wreck. Jack is much more horse than we could ever handle, but my husband insisted he have him. Somewhere along the line before we got Jack, I think he’d been mistreated. At least he’s been loved and cared for with us even if we’ve only ridden him a few times. Fortunately our farrier handles him well.
On another note, I also wore KF94 masks. They had good reviews, fit well, and I liked that the ones I bought were individually wrapped.

All This horse talk took me way back. No, that is not me but the picture of Charles Dennehy who trained where I rode. How his name came to me from from long ago is certainly surprising. I never went over a jump like that!
T hanks for all he horse stories and pictures…they took be right down memory lane.
NYC wedding snaps have been coming via email. Fun to follow the events.
Started watching DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES…now I am glued to HULU!

Thank you, Judith! Beautiful! Two amazing athletes there!

Judith, thank you! I wasn’t familiar with Charles Dennehy so took a few minutes to read up a bit. That’s a great pic, rider and horse, the time period and attire.

good evening
we are definitely headed into the dark Lorita. I can’t stay out on the porch near as long now, if I want to see what I’m reading. I worry about you and Darwin both Lorita.
those are interesting pictures Beth from your vacation. Thank you for giving me permission to pull my tomatoes up. It’s not been a good year as I’ve said before for tomatoes. I probably had the best tomatoes today though that I’ve had, it was a black prince . That’s a new tomato that I raised this year. I’ve already gotten some of them and they had no flavor, but this one was pretty good today. I think it’s because we’ve had days of sunshine and no rain and that’s how you get good tomato flavor. We had a lot of a lot of rain this year. This last several days have been the nicest weather it’s been beautiful.
yesterday my sisters and I went and had just a little bit of a relaxing day. I really enjoyed it. We went to a coffee shop that’s locally owned. It’s really neat. It’s in a very old building downtown, but it’s in good shape. One of my sisters split a homemade blueberry pop tart with me . It was very good. Then we went to a thrift shop that’s run by hospice. I didn’t buy a lot there. I had hoped to find some clothes, but I didn’t. I always look for cards there though because you find a lot of older cards there and they’re $.25 . So I found 10 yesterday. So I got 10 very nice cards for 2.50. I couldn’t even go buy one cheap card at the store for that.
Sorry Lorita I have never used an oil heater
HB minor repairs are definitely an issue. I used to have a wonderful handyman who would do anything for you and did a beautiful job. But unfortunately, in an ice storm, he was helping someone cut a tree and he fell out and had a severe head injury. He has never been the same and no longer able to do that. I have a minor thing I need done right now and I just have no idea who to call. My one brother-in-law used to really help me a lot, but I’m not sure what’s going on with him, but he’s very different than he used to be and so I don’t feel free to ask him anymore. But I did remember there’s a couple at church who from what I can tell basically live their life doing projects for people. So I had actually talked to her a while back about maybe getting them to paint my basement. So I think I’m going to ask them if they are willing to take care of the small job for me and then I will tell also have to look at my basement and give me an estimate on the basement. They weren’t at church today so I’ll just have to keep an eye out for them. They also run a sober house and so probably a hairy life at times. But maybe if they can’t do it they will know somebody or I’m gonna ask around at church and see if there’s handyman around that I can get to do jobs for me.
Beth, I will try to be a little more newsy lol. I feel that for quite a few months now I have a much more social life and I’m not complaining about that. Anyways, sometimes I read everything kind of fast and so I don’t say a lot because I’m afraid I might have missed something. You guys will just have to forgive me if I miss some stuff. I find it takes me quite a while to answer these because as you all know, is not the best system. It has a lot of glitches like for some reason on my iPad, it doesn’t capitalize the initial word in a sentence most of the time. I just leave it alone because all that stuff slows you down.
i’ve always worn the KF94 and I did listen to the virologist. But I also Listened to a guy who just did mask testing and it was something he was qualified to do. And he early on said that the KF94 he was testing worked well and much easier to breathe in. He liked the ones out of South Korea because they have pretty stringent testing for their mask. So that’s what I still look for is mask made in South Korea. There could be other places making good ones now, I no longer follow that. I just stick with what’s working. I don’t see any need to fix it. So far I’ve been blessed I’ve never had Covid and I also know it helps protect you from the flu or anything else i.e. measles that are passed through the respiratory tract. I am getting tired of wearing them but probably somewhere around mid October. I’ll start wearing it especially when I’m out or at the assisted-living. I have one in my purse in case I run into a bunch of people coughing and hacking lol. I like them being individually supplied also. This man’s studies showed they are good for 40 hours. I use each one 40 hours.
Wishing each one a good night’s rest
