Good morning. It is just gorgeous today here. Sunny and warm.

Eaglemom—I'm glad you have a doctor who is compassionate and respectful towards your DH. I hope the injections bring lasting relief.

I totally agree that the gratuity culture has gotten out of hand. I live in a bedroom community for NYC— it's out-of-hand here. I am always amazed at how often DS gets tipped for just doing his job. So many parents tip him just for being nice to their kids and answering questions. I don't mind throwing a couple bucks to the kids who work at counter take-out places. But 25-45% to a business owner. Oh-hell-to-the-no on that one.

Judith— I knew that was a special piece your DD had. Mom had her portrait done by a friend back in the 1950s. He was the real-meal-deal who won national awards and such for his work. He sadly died young. In the picture she has a black silk velvet wrap that I now have in my closet. Mom used to keep it (and all her favorite pieces) here when she spent winters in FL. I used to hang it over my mantle where she could look down on DH in his chair. He's not looking forward to the day it takes permanent residence, not because he loves my mom but because the picture creeps him out. LOL, mom would want you to know that that paint color and builder-grade chandelier came with the house and have both been banished.

    image.png

Lady Zetta— You'll be enjoying a genuine autumn before you know it.

There's a lot of fun stuff to be found streaming. You Tube alone has so many travel vloggers not to mention fun videos about all kinds of quirky old things like fashion, home decor, tours of towns from years ago.

Tigersmom—Listen to your foot. She's talking to you.

Try to look in the bright side, the effects your feel in the aftermath of your jabs is proof of a robust response to the vaccine which bodes well for protecting you. At least that's what my PCP told me. I did better this time. I felt crummy, but well enough to shower and run to the store for bread.

Gothic G— I found this on how vaccines as approved and recommended.

The 2 pieces not discussed in the post that impact vaccines are 1) insurance coverage and 2) participation of Pharma which develops and manufactures the vaccines.

Even if you can get a vaccine, they can be expensive if your insurance doesn't pick up all or some of the cost. When Shingrix first came out, my aunt has to pay out-of-pocket because she doesn't have very good insurance. Ironic as she is a retiree of one of the most highly regarded medical systems in the U.S. She ended up paying close to $300 for it. Once, DS went for a flu shot and there was a glitch and they charged him— it was only about $20 but even that could be beyond what some can afford.

The other piece is the willingness of Big Pharma, which is beholden to their stockholders, to invest in R&D around vaccines if uptake is spotty. It's scary.
    __________________________________________________________

I need to get my pizza dough started and do a little laundry. I also need to send our latest shot records to the PCPs office. Evidently, they want brands and batch numbers. At least we don't have to carry cards around any more.

We had a nice shower this morning, too. Carl. There are some puddles! First time in quite a while.

Never been to.a pro baseball game, bet it was fun. We have been to quite a few Chiefs games at Arrowhead but I think it's called something else now. We liked KC and the big market on Saturdays.

Judith, NP? Good luck, hope all is well.

That's good to hear, Judith. NPs are quite good, in my experience. They are like doctors, but with less ego.

Our trip to KC was organized by the senior center and was called a "Funseeker" trip. We are going to Silver Dollar City next month for the annual fall craft fair. I haven't been to SDC in years and am looking forward to it.

Lorita, major league baseball is like high school baseball but with a much higher level of play. Only one fielding error was charged in the entire game, and the team made up for it by flawlessly executing a double play later in the game. Only one pitch was bobbled by a catcher, and he kept it between his feet and easily threw out the batter as he ran to first base (it was the third strike).

Unlike amateur baseball, we had hot dogs and beer for lunch, and it was the most expensive meal I have eaten this year.

    My laundry is calling. TTYL

    Good morning Rockers.

I got my car serviced yesterday, it's all ready for the drive. I also got my flu shot yesterday, this was the first one I remember hurting. 🫩 and my arm is sore. Tomorrow we are getting Molly and Fiona groomed and ready for the trip.

I'm hoping to get some rest today. 🙏

Good day to all. Hugs Zetta

Good afternoon all. It's another 95 degree day here. It might seem odd, but it feels like fall is in the air though. Maybe by next week the temp will come down. No rain in our future.

Poor Madison has a bad case of gastritis. I had her at the vet by 8:30 today. She has meds and you can tell she already feels better. I couldn't believe it, she's lost 1.1 lbs in one week. But with as much time as she & I have been in the yard in the last 24 hr, I guess its believable. DH has been so worried over her not feeling well. They are best buddies. Hopefully the worst is over with her and it will be a calm weekend.

I personally like seeing an NP. Its just been my experience that they take a little more time with you & listen to you.

Have we heard from Iris? Hope she's ok.

HB I'm glad you commented on the gratuities comment I made. I feel the exact same way. I'm a very generous tipper, but it seems everyone wants a gratuity for basically doing their job. Can't you just see it - the Amazon delivery guy will drive up and honk. You have to run out to the truck to get your package & give him a gratuity because he delivered it!!!!

Zetta sounds like your going through your check list. I'm glad your not waiting until the last minute and trying to rush through everything. You'll be in cool weather before you know it.

GG I feel the same way, I don't want to adult. The mundane of paying bills, etc. Ugh. There aren't many but its a task. Like the ironing I need to do. Its not a favorite either, but I do it.

I have got to figure out why this stupid (I'm being nice) printer will not scan anymore. Its only 3 yrs old and I do have a 4 yr warranty on it. But you have to make an appointment for them to look at it. I've tried for a week to get through and can't. Not a great system in my eyes. So back to working on that.

Let's be safe out there everyone.

My mother's next-door neighbor lost his house by letting his SO adult for him. He was on the road a lot for work, so he gave her access to his bank account to pay the bills. She tossed the bills, kept the money, and left when the bill collectors began calling. He didn't have the money to prevent foreclosure. The same woman stole another neighbor's identity by reading her outgoing mail and opening a credit card in her name, which is why we should take our mail to the post office instead of putting it in the mailbox. An envelope paying a bill can contain name, address, bank account number, and a credit card number.

I have never seen an NP but Charles had one we really liked.

I haven't seen a post from Iris in a while. Maybe she is reading and will know we are going worried about her.

Nice that your appt went well, Judith.

Zetta, are you getting really excited? Good you're getting things on the check list done. Will you be doing most of the driving?

It is a most beautiful day here after our morning rain.. I didn't realize we had as much as we had but we needed every drop because it was getting dry and it washed the dust off my car!

Eagle, so glad the medicine is helping Madison feel better. I hate it when something is wrong with our little companions. Max has some stomach problem -vomiting after he eats. I try to give him probiotics and give that daily to the GPs.

    Thinking about a nap.

Lorita. Your thinking about a nap, I just got up from a 2 hour nap. My arm is still sore, so I'm taking it slow today.

We will be driving in 2 cars, my SIL, in his big Bronco, with his big dog Fiona. My DD, 3 cats , Molly and I in my car. I will not be driving much, I prefer to only drive on quiet roads, so I might be doing a hour or so, on the quieter freeways. My DD likes to drive. We will be doing a lot of Starbucks stops and a lot of rest area stops. 🤣🤣

Here is a picture of our fur babies. We had this made to give to the vet, were sure going to miss her. Molly and Sammy are mine the other babies are my DDs and SILs. Molly was at the groomers. Sammy and Timmy are best friends, they are the ones looking out ths window.

Pretty.bunch of fur babies, Zetta. Good thing they are good travelers. That will be a long trip for everyone but you'll be going back to the part of our Country you like, just in time for Fall and Winter.

Me, too, Judith. I just checked and the last post from Iris was Sept. 11. She still wasn't feeling too well. Does anyone know how to contact her?

Good to hear from you, Iris. Sorry for all that's happening. Hope things smooth out for you soon. We're here if you need to talk about it. Take those deep breaths.

Stormy vomited this afternoon. Could be because he ate his and Sheena's food, 22 oz. of food. Sheena is off her feed. I started giving them Meloxicam for arthritis last Friday..Haven't given it today. May be that both of them have side effects from it..Vomiting and lack of appetite are two of the side effects. Glad I didn't give it today. Maybe I'll call Mike and see what he says.

HB - We've run into the gratuity for everything culture. The latest was our pest control guys - they wanted a gratuity! That would be a 'no'. Just do the job we're paying you for.

Thanks for the info on vaccines. I hate feeling like I need to be up on all of this.

Carl and Judith - I had an NP I really liked, but she left, and now I have a doctor that I see regularly. I like her well enough, but I really hear you about the egos.

Zetta - I love all of your fur babies, they're all so cute. Peggy's cat, Jezebel, looked a lot like Timmy. Jezebel was a funny girl. She always liked to sit in the bathroom sink with the water running just a little bit. She'd play in the water for hours.

Iris - I'm sorry you're feeling weighted down. I don't know that we can help, but we're all here.

As for me, I spent most of today doing "homework." I'm volunteering over the weekend doing some pro bono legal work in an area of law that isn't privacy. Now at 1:30am on a Friday night I finally feel like I'm up on the current case law. At least I get to sleep in tomorrow. 🙂

    good afternoon

    (((Iris)))

scabies where . My sister and I were laughing. We both felt like we were itching last night. I believe all in our heads. The last I heard mom has no signs of scabies. We shall see. She’s for several days about her skin being irritated. My mom never describes anything normally for years. But I have not seen her scratching so they say she has no signs so hopefully it stays that way. I guess there’s only one patient that’s been diagnosed with them be able to go back until at least next Wednesday

    take care

Carl, you have me thinking - my mailbox is a quarter mole from my house and I can't see it because of trees. I don't pick up the mail everyday - maybe I should. I put outgoing mail in the box the morning before the mail carrier runs. Almost all of my household bills are on auto pay and the two cards I use I call and make the payments but the bills are in the mailbox.I put charity and occasionally checks in the box also. Never had a problem I am aware of but there's always the first time.I have two neighbors west of me who have mailboxes far from the house. The post office is about three miles from my house.but maybe should make the trip.

Something has the girls upset hearing a lot of bawling. Better check.

I only mail one or two checks per month. I write them with a fine point laundry marker, and I take them to the post office. Thieves can wash checks, leaving the signature and changing the amount and the payee. A $20 check to my son's pharmacy can become a $5,000 check to Snidely Whipsnade.

During WW II, my mother wrote letters to my father in Europe and put them in the outgoing mail in her office. Another woman in the office copied my father's address and wrote to him, telling him that my mother was being unfaithful to him. That woman was later fired, because she didn't get along with anyone.

Leaving outgoing mail unsecured is a bad idea. The woman across the street puts her outgoing mail in her mailbox and raises the little red flag, but I never do.

Carl, that’s important information regarding washing checks. My cousin had a check mailed in the box outside the post office stolen and changed to $8000. It was cashed at the bank. They were fortunate that the bank did reimburse them. Our mailbox is a quarter mile from our house also. I use my bank’s online bill pay site so all the bills are paid electronically.

You all have convinced me- guess I will go the PO unless I can catch the mailcarrier. This past week there was a CC replscement in the mailbox for a couple of days.

Judith, only one door doesn't lock and no one who isn't familiar with the house would notice it - it's on the far south side of the porch.

Sandy, how awful that your cousins check was stolen and right outside the PO. That was a lot of money to lose. Nu e that the bank reimbursed them.

Took a microwave muffin pan, with muffins in it, over to Darwin's a while ago. Explained to him you can have baked muffins in three minutes from the microwave. He gave me an ice cream sandwich that I enjoyed on the way home.

The Sooners are playing Auburn right now in Norman, Okla. I noticed a girl is driving the Sooner Schooner. Scores tied, 3-3. You wouldn't want to be there, or in KC, if you didn't like red or crimson. Looks like the whole place is crimson.

Good afternoon. It's sunny and beautiful today. I'm meeting friends at a nicer restaurant's patio for dinner. It'll be nice— we tend to go to local casual places and outright dives.

Lorita— Maybe a PO box would be safest for your needs. A few of the folks on my block have locking boxes but I'm not sure that's really much safer.

Meloxicam is a powerful NSAID. It's what I was prescribed after knee replacement. I could see where it could cause GI issues.

Judith— I hope you don't have too much discomfort from your tetanus shot. That's one of the ones that leads to a sore arm that sticks around a few days.

Lady Z— The pets are lovely. I'm a sucker for a black cat. I have a friend who only has orange males; she claims they have the sweetest dispositions. Yours certainly has a sweet face.

Eaglemom— I hope Madison is on the mend soon. That's a big weight loss for someone her size. I ironed today, too. I don't mind the ironing so much as I do setting up the board and getting the iron out. In a perfect world I'd have a large laundry space where I could leave it set up all the time. And no steps so I don't have to haul baskets up and down.

    Iris— Thinking of you.

Gothic G— I'm curious to see what the winter looks like vis a vis COVID. Has the virus mutated enough that the vast majority survive it given whatever immunity they have from vaccines and recovery from previous rounds? Or will people living day cares and congregate living facilities for the elderly by terribly impacted while everyone else goes about their business.

That said, I went down the "what are other civilized countries doing?" rabbit hole and discovered NHS is recommending boosters for those 75+ and people at special risk per fairly tight list of conditions. My DS would qualify here under both obesity and developmental disability, but not in the UK.

Mint— I hope you all dodge scabies. <shudder>

Carl— That is a very disturbing story about your parents during WW II. I can't imagine how awful that would be for your dad.

Mail break-ins have been a problem here. Thieves go at mailboxes with crowbars even at the P.O. with CCTV filming. At mom's P.O. there was an issue with checks disappearing at the loading docks.

I use a fine tip Sharpie and have specially designed security checks with holograms and anti-washing technology. I don't know if it makes a difference. I usually go to the more rural P.O. that opens at 1pm and has a cat.

I hope all have a pleasant evening.

I pay everything I can electronically, but my son's medications come from a pharmacy 200 miles away that doesn't do electronic payment. I can't change the pharmacy because it is chosen by the RCF in which he resides, so once a month I get some of my steps in by walking into the PO and mailing a check.

My FIL owned several mortgages on property he had sold and received checks in the mail. He had a PO box in town.

Thanks,HB, for the Info on Meloxicam. I didn't give it yesterday or today and Stormy hasn't upchucked and Sheena ate her food.. Maybe I can cut the dosage or give it every other day. I cleaned their ears and will do it again tomorrow and put in drops. Just now I was letting them outside and Sheena couldn't get up. I think it's her long nails and she slides and can't get a grip on the floor.. Maybe next week when its cooler D. Can help me get her in the car to get her nails trimmed, if she won't let me do it and her allergy shot. She didn't need one when I took Stormy.

Judith, one of the doors is between rooms and the top drags and is hard to open. The other one locks except for the deadbolt but the last two nights it worked.. Stormy and Sheena hear everything and are good watchdogs so all is okay and I have a ..22 and two pistols nearby.

About the PO.box, it would really be inconvenient and there are times the road is impassable, however the Commissioner has done some work on it. I'll think about it. I've never had a problem but it could happen anytime. I just need to.pick up the mail everyday.

OU is ahead by six. Looks like it's clabbering up, cloud wise, and there are showers west of Norman. My grandma used to use that word about clouds.

Glad you didn't have any reactions from the shots, Judith. Why the tetanus shot? I will call WM pharmacy Monday to see about the Covid vaccine but will wait on the flu shot two or three weeks.

Iris, hope things are better for you today.

My goodness, Judith! Where did that happen? Is she okay?

Just found a message Mike left for me last night. He didn't answer when I called because he wss preg-checking cows and couldn't at the time.. He said he didn't think it was the Me!oxicam that caused the problem because he had never had that problem before but could be possible. Said to give them half a tablet daily. He was in surgery- he is the busiest person I have ever seen. If he isn't seeing patients in the clinic or on farm calls, he's in surgery.

    Good morning all.

Judith— Wait, what? Is your sister okay? What happened?

Lorita— I'm glad the dogs' stomachs seem more settled. Current guidance for adults is getting a tetanus booster every 10 years. I could see where this would be especially important for someone like you who is still lives and works on a farm.

You can opt for the standard Td or the Tdap which protects against Pertussis if you have interactions with babies.

So, if the road is impassable and you can't get to the P.O., can your letter carrier get to you? Alas, criminals have new technologies at their disposal with which to swindle.

Your Mike does seem to be ridiculously busy. Does he have family?

    __________________________________________________________________

Dinner was a mixed bag last night. The weather was perfect, and the garden patio was gorgeous and not so noisy DH and his friend couldn't hear but the food was not what it was on our last visit and it was $$$. My pork chop was "medium" but almost impossible to cut with a steak knife and the side was a gratin of thing sweet potato and rutabaga layers that just didn't work. DH said his veal was tough. This makes 2 nights in a row he couldn't eat his dinner. The night before I picked up Corned Beef Specials at the fancy deli— I don't know if the meat was spoiled, if it picked up disinfectant on the cutting table or what but we both spit it out. Plus, they made it on whole wheat bread— who does that?

In better news, my toaster overheated at breakfast yesterday so I went to Home Goods hoping to fine a replacement before heading to Target. I found a lovely Breville for a mere $60 which I consider a win. I hope it's as good as its reviews claim.

I hope it's a pleasant day for all.
