Eaglemom—I'm glad you have a doctor who is compassionate and respectful towards your DH. I hope the injections bring lasting relief.

I totally agree that the gratuity culture has gotten out of hand. I live in a bedroom community for NYC— it's out-of-hand here. I am always amazed at how often DS gets tipped for just doing his job. So many parents tip him just for being nice to their kids and answering questions. I don't mind throwing a couple bucks to the kids who work at counter take-out places. But 25-45% to a business owner. Oh-hell-to-the-no on that one.

Judith— I knew that was a special piece your DD had. Mom had her portrait done by a friend back in the 1950s. He was the real-meal-deal who won national awards and such for his work. He sadly died young. In the picture she has a black silk velvet wrap that I now have in my closet. Mom used to keep it (and all her favorite pieces) here when she spent winters in FL. I used to hang it over my mantle where she could look down on DH in his chair. He's not looking forward to the day it takes permanent residence, not because he loves my mom but because the picture creeps him out. LOL, mom would want you to know that that paint color and builder-grade chandelier came with the house and have both been banished.

There's a lot of fun stuff to be found streaming. You Tube alone has so many travel vloggers not to mention fun videos about all kinds of quirky old things like fashion, home decor, tours of towns from years ago.

Try to look in the bright side, the effects your feel in the aftermath of your jabs is proof of a robust response to the vaccine which bodes well for protecting you. At least that's what my PCP told me. I did better this time. I felt crummy, but well enough to shower and run to the store for bread.

Gothic G— I found this on how vaccines as approved and recommended.

The 2 pieces not discussed in the post that impact vaccines are 1) insurance coverage and 2) participation of Pharma which develops and manufactures the vaccines.

Even if you can get a vaccine, they can be expensive if your insurance doesn't pick up all or some of the cost. When Shingrix first came out, my aunt has to pay out-of-pocket because she doesn't have very good insurance. Ironic as she is a retiree of one of the most highly regarded medical systems in the U.S. She ended up paying close to $300 for it. Once, DS went for a flu shot and there was a glitch and they charged him— it was only about $20 but even that could be beyond what some can afford.

The other piece is the willingness of Big Pharma, which is beholden to their stockholders, to invest in R&D around vaccines if uptake is spotty. It's scary.

I got my car serviced yesterday, it's all ready for the drive. I also got my flu shot yesterday, this was the first one I remember hurting. 🫩 and my arm is sore. Tomorrow we are getting Molly and Fiona groomed and ready for the trip.

I'm hoping to get some rest today. 🙏

Lorita. Your thinking about a nap, I just got up from a 2 hour nap. My arm is still sore, so I'm taking it slow today.

We will be driving in 2 cars, my SIL, in his big Bronco, with his big dog Fiona. My DD, 3 cats , Molly and I in my car. I will not be driving much, I prefer to only drive on quiet roads, so I might be doing a hour or so, on the quieter freeways. My DD likes to drive. We will be doing a lot of Starbucks stops and a lot of rest area stops. 🤣🤣

Here is a picture of our fur babies. We had this made to give to the vet, were sure going to miss her. Molly and Sammy are mine the other babies are my DDs and SILs. Molly was at the groomers. Sammy and Timmy are best friends, they are the ones looking out ths window.

scabies where . My sister and I were laughing. We both felt like we were itching last night. I believe all in our heads. The last I heard mom has no signs of scabies. We shall see. She’s for several days about her skin being irritated. My mom never describes anything normally for years. But I have not seen her scratching so they say she has no signs so hopefully it stays that way. I guess there’s only one patient that’s been diagnosed with them be able to go back until at least next Wednesday

Carl, that’s important information regarding washing checks. My cousin had a check mailed in the box outside the post office stolen and changed to $8000. It was cashed at the bank. They were fortunate that the bank did reimburse them. Our mailbox is a quarter mile from our house also. I use my bank’s online bill pay site so all the bills are paid electronically.

Good afternoon. It's sunny and beautiful today. I'm meeting friends at a nicer restaurant's patio for dinner. It'll be nice— we tend to go to local casual places and outright dives.

Lorita— Maybe a PO box would be safest for your needs. A few of the folks on my block have locking boxes but I'm not sure that's really much safer.

Meloxicam is a powerful NSAID. It's what I was prescribed after knee replacement. I could see where it could cause GI issues.

Judith— I hope you don't have too much discomfort from your tetanus shot. That's one of the ones that leads to a sore arm that sticks around a few days.

Lady Z— The pets are lovely. I'm a sucker for a black cat. I have a friend who only has orange males; she claims they have the sweetest dispositions. Yours certainly has a sweet face.

Eaglemom— I hope Madison is on the mend soon. That's a big weight loss for someone her size. I ironed today, too. I don't mind the ironing so much as I do setting up the board and getting the iron out. In a perfect world I'd have a large laundry space where I could leave it set up all the time. And no steps so I don't have to haul baskets up and down.

Gothic G— I'm curious to see what the winter looks like vis a vis COVID. Has the virus mutated enough that the vast majority survive it given whatever immunity they have from vaccines and recovery from previous rounds? Or will people living day cares and congregate living facilities for the elderly by terribly impacted while everyone else goes about their business.

That said, I went down the "what are other civilized countries doing?" rabbit hole and discovered NHS is recommending boosters for those 75+ and people at special risk per fairly tight list of conditions. My DS would qualify here under both obesity and developmental disability, but not in the UK.

Mint— I hope you all dodge scabies. <shudder>

Carl— That is a very disturbing story about your parents during WW II. I can't imagine how awful that would be for your dad.

Mail break-ins have been a problem here. Thieves go at mailboxes with crowbars even at the P.O. with CCTV filming. At mom's P.O. there was an issue with checks disappearing at the loading docks.

I use a fine tip Sharpie and have specially designed security checks with holograms and anti-washing technology. I don't know if it makes a difference. I usually go to the more rural P.O. that opens at 1pm and has a cat.
