    Good morning.

Happy Birthday Carl! Enjoy your cakes!

I must have gotten one of those anti-aging pills, b/c I do have the side effects 😄.

HB, apparently I too have a "floordrobe", because I keep a lot of items stacked up on surfaces. This is because the drawers are FULL! What's in them? Stuff! Oh, well.

The sleep doctors have recommended the same to me, setting a consistent awake time. But if I am still tired, I don't get up.

Actually, I know my problem is that I don't get to bed consistently. And that is because, I don't like to admit it, but it's the truth, I stay too long on my phone in the evening and long into the night, sometimes even after midnight. I know it's an addiction. I've read articles and watched videos about internet addiction and dopamine hits, I even discussed this with my neurologist.

I have FOMO, fear of missing out. I love watching YT videos, they are more interesting than my real life. But I know this is not sustainable. I have work around the house that needs to be done.

The only thing that has helped me is walking, because I become fatigued in the evening and want to fall asleep early. Last night I slept from midnight until 6 am, and I felt rested when I awoke. I have to keep it up. That's my story.

    Happy Friday.

Iris I can so relate. If you watch one video then all of a sudden you've watched several. I'm guilty of that. DH is very guilty of it. I find it hilarious when I hand him my phone to watch something while he's handing his phone to me to watch something! Clearly it doesn't take much to tickle me.

We're off to DH's PT in a few minutes. We are both very pleased with how well its gone & how much its helped. But the neck pushed forward & bent left is still there. PT has strengthened his shoulders / arms significantly. We meet with the surgeon on Monday to get his opinion. He's a surgeon, I pretty much know he's going to want to do some type of surgery. He takes a couple of Aleave once a day - to me that's not a huge amount of pain. It just looks like it hurts and frankly its aged him - I don't care for either one. I'll listen and we'll decide what's the best way to proceed.

Our AC is running, that's crazy. OK off to PT. I'll check back in later. Let's be safe everyone.

Happy Birthday Carl!! I hope you had a great day!! There's more cake at the far end of the porch. 🎂 Can there ever be too much cake?

Iris - Your cousin found a great place to live!!! I'm not terribly familiar with Walnut Creek, but I know where it is.

Judith - do ice cream and gin go together? 😄 Maybe a flaming frosting?

About sleeping —- I've never been a morning person, even in high school, but I always had to conform to that morning schedule. On my first day of work after law school, I got to the office at 9am, and no one was there. People starting wheeling in around 10am, and I was like, "my people!" People would show up at 10am, but work until 10pm, which was great from my perspective. Even since then, I haven't had to get up early, and my life is better for it. I stay up late and get up late consistently and I'm rarely tired when I wake up.

Kind of a 'whatever works best for you' mindset.

    Happy Birthday Carl, 🎂

I have always slept poorly. It used to bother me especially when I was working but one of the advantages of retirement in my opinion is no longer needing to worry about it. I nap if I am tired and if I get up in the middle of the night ( every night) so be it.

We had some sprinkles today. An "atmospheric river" is supposed to be on its way over the weekend. I did my grocery shopping today, so I'll stay indoors.

    Good night.

I guess that atmospheric river will be here Wednesday. We may get up to 4" of rain. I need to get the back of the barn closed before then. I'll do what I can tomorrow and maybe Bryon can do the rest. I know there is shoveling to do and I can't do a lot of that. I hate getting to the point I can't do things like I used to be able to do.

Carl, I also have those side effects.

They picked me up yesterday to get my car. Paid them and left. Within half a mile.noticed the check engine light was on. Went back and now they have to take off the front end of the car to fix the wires. Another $500+ but insurance will pay that. Now they recommend putting moth balls in the car to deter the rodent.

I slept until 12:30 and the tv awakened me, now wide awake. Iris, what are we going to do? Tablet is low on power so will stop. Sheena wanted out but let her into the LR and she's quiet now . Guess everyone else is asleep so I'll try to go back to sleep. See you all tomorrow.

Morning, got back to sleep and slept well. Looks like a beautiful, warm day on tap. In have some floorrobe, too. I need to straighten up the linen closet. I know there are years old things in there. I tend to use the same sheets and towels all the time-: just use, wash and dry and use again. That new, warm sheet set is going to take up room in the closet when not in use..

My side hurts this morning so not sure how much I can do with the barn doors. May just get Bryan and his cousin to do it. I absolutely hate not being able to do all I want to do. I need to be able to accept it, I guess.

Everyone, enjoy today and be safe.

    Good morning.

JeriLynn, I can almost hear and smell the campfire, so nice! Did you make s'mores?

I woke up at 6 am, got up, but I'm still in my robe. I've got the "don't want to's", I don't want to do anything. Probably because I didn't get enough sleep. One part of my mind doesn't care that I don't want to do anything, but the other part is SAD that I'm not getting anything done.

It's raining steadily and it's chilly, so I will stay inside today. I may even go back to bed.

It was sunny here today, high about 77 degrees. That's near a record high after setting a record low last Tuesday night (about 21 degrees). That's the Midwest for you.

I had a nice birthday party today. My SIL and niece took me and my son to a Chinese restaurant, and then back to their house for peach cobbler and ice cream. Then we talked all afternoon. Among other things, SIL said my brother used to worry about my death. He was a year younger and died in 2012, so it just shows you never know.

Iris, don't worry about it. If a rainy Saturday isn't a day to do nothing, what is?

The Oklahoma Sooners beat the Crimson Tide today - sorry JeriLynn. It was a good game. Glad you had a good time.

About bedtime -comes early since the time change.

Glad you had a happy birthday, Carl.

    Good night

I hope you all have a great night.

I'm starting to slow down myself. My s.o. got his pneumonia vaccine and his second shingles shot yesterday (one in each arm) and he was wiped out today. It just laid him out flat, but he's back to his old self now.

What this meant was that I was in charge of food today - which can be a mixed bad. Fortunately it all went well. 🙂

Wow, Carl, 77 degrees. We're in the low 50s, low 40s at night. It's chilly. It drizzled most of the day today, and it'll be like that for most of this week - and probably until April!! 😄

Iris - if it makes you feel any better, I didn't get up until 11am this morning either.

JeriLynn - I love that campfire. How chilly is it where you guys camp? It must be starting to get on the colder side.

As for me, in spite of my late start, I got most of y household chores done, which felt good. But mostly it was a quiet Saturday.

    Good morning,

No s'mores Iris. We had pecan pie, apple pie and cinnamon rolls from a local bakery.

GG, the temps the first night were in the 20s. But, we have propane heat in the RV and a heated water hose so we were fine. Plus, sleeping with DH is like sleeping with a bear next to you, he puts off a lot of body heat, lol. He's usually all snuggled up while I am kicking covers off in the middle of the night.

Our church is sponsoring 2 Christmas charities for children this year. Samaritan's Purse and an Angel Tree. I got my shopping and wrapping done for both yesterday. My great granddaughter who is 7 helped shop and choose the gifts. Then we went for ice cream. Fun day.

Today is church, then an evening meeting with a granddaughter returning to school for her Master's degree, this week a meeting with the guidance counselor for another great grand who is a Senior in high school planning her college entry.

It's also time to finish getting "laid by" for winter. Flower beds to clean, garden to till and mulch, boats to get into the barn for winter storage and patches on the barn roof from a summer windstorm. And Christmas shopping; I'm behind already!

Hope everyone has a peaceful day.

    Good morning.

Last night I heard drumming outside my bedroom window, which was strange. After a few moments, I realized that what I thought was drumming was actually thunder. Rumble rumble rumble! I didn't need to use my environmental sounds sleep machine LOL. I slept well for 8 hours. It's not raining right now but still overcast and chilly. I hope everyone will have a peaceful Sunday.

    Good Sunday afternoon—

It's a bright and windy one here. We had storms overnight and the wind has hung around. I wanted to finish putting my garden beds in order ahead of the winter but it's unpleasant at the moment.

I could be cleaning out my closet but am not motivated at the moment.

Jerilynn— I do like a nice campfire except for the smoke getting into one's hair and clothing. It sounds as though you and yours ate really well on this fall break. Food always tastes better when camping for some reason.

Iris— Yay! for a solid night's sleep. DH said we had all kinds of thunder and lightning overnight but I slept straight through thanks to me trusty earplugs.

Carl— That's sounds like a perfect birthday meal. Especially the cobbler part.

Gothic G— That second Shingrix jab about did me in. I'd say it was worse than a combination of Moderna Covid vaccine and Senior Flu.

My bestie's first post-college job was proofreading at a large traditional law firm. The lawyers there rolled in pretty late and had long lunch meetings so some days she had nothing to do until 3:30 or 4 when documents would need proofing before end of day which meant dinner ordered in and taxis home along with overtime pay. It was crazy.

    _________________________________________________________

Niece picked up her sister last night and they took mom out to dinner. She had a lovely time but weren't seated until after 7pm and mom's under doctor's orders to eat early to prevent silent aspiration. This is why she was hospitalized 5 times last fall and winter. Of course, she didn't say anything which puts me in the awkward position being the one to say something.

Hi, Slept fairly well so feeling better, thank you, Mint!

Bryon and Bob got here about 9;30:and worked about three hours. They got both sets of North barn doors closed and fixed the place where dirt and stuff were pushing the sheet iron out against the big, South door. Took care of four big , downed limbs and the ones in the yard- two trailer trips to the brush pile. Bob had been sick so wasn't up to par so will take care of the rest later.

I had kept three really nice coats of Charles when I donated so gave those to Bryon. He and Charles are about the same size so maybe he or his son can wear them. Also gave him a bottle of Grandpa Gus. He is having the same problem as I with rats getting into vehicles. Maybe it will work for him.

He has a friend who makes walking sticks from cedar or bodark with a pretty top so gave one to me. I can use that now instead of the sorting stick when I walk around the barn or pasture. I know I misspelled the tree-sorry. I an so glad to get the barn closed for the winter. They had an audience of.75 or 80 girls watching. Cattle are very curious.

Watching the Bills and Buccaneers- really good game. Baker is doing well.Wind chill is in the twenties. Eagle-- Chiefs in a little while!

Another pretty day today, about 66 but felt as warm as yesterday because there's no wind to speak of. I went up the street to visit with my friend Ronnie (not the Ron you know) who had back surgery the other day. He still has staples holding his hide together but is able to walk outside a couple of miles a day so he's pretty happy with the result. Turns out he and I have the same birthday. He joked that we must be the same age, but actually I was celebrating my 13th and learning to shave when he was learning to breathe outside the womb.

I did some cleaning out in the garage. I was looking for my tire gauge and found a lot of old junk that should have been tossed two moves ago, so out it went. There were dried out tubes of car wax and things like partial cans of brake fluid and power steering fluid. It has been decades since I drove a car so punk that I needed to add those fluids, so those cans were from the 20th century sometime!

Lorita, of course those cattle were interested in the work on the barn. It's their winter refuge, so they were supervising to be sure it was done right!

JeriLynn, that fire looks terrific. When I used to camp with DH's Boy Scout troop, I always woke early when the cold air was pushed over us by the rising sun and would get the fire going and water heated to make coffee and oatmeal. The other men were so happy to get up to a fire and hot coffee that they didn't ask me to do another thing all day unless there was something really heavy to lift. I didn't do it for them; I did it because I was awake, the sun was up, and I wanted my coffee. Sometimes the loudest noise I heard was the river current, and the most movement was a mallard drake swimming in circles looking for breakfast. Good times!

I've put out the trash, with the old auto supplies, and the sun has set. Sleep well!

Carl, Mike said it was.almost 80 on his truck this.afternoon'.. . Beautiful day but.windy here. The Bradford pears along the driveway and on the pond dump are beautiful ranging from green to yellow to orange and russet. Two of the maples in the yard are pretty, too. One is orange and the other is yellow.

You are right the girls.love the barn, to get out of the hot, summer sun, the rain and cold wind, snow and ice in the winter. I have been out there in the snowy winter feeding.bottle.babies and the heat from them actually made it fairly comfortable. Saw Billy supervising the work today and he looks good.

Good afternoon. We've been having some warm days, 76 a couple of days ago. Not typical for November in Iowa, but we'll take it! I've been doing a lot of yard work. Some of it is taking care of the leaves that have fallen, some is working on my compost pile and some is just "putzing around." I really just want to be outside whenever the weather is half way nice (doesn't have to even be "nice," just not horrible!) ha!

A friend at church gave me some peaches a few weeks ago from his tree. I'm going to make a pie this afternoon.

    Enjoy your day. Hugs, Beth

I'm so jealous of all of you with temperatures in the 70s. We're at 49 right now. It's kind of chilly. And there's rain. 😄

As for other stuff — my s.o. is back up to snuff from his vaccines. They really did a number on him.

Yesterday was oddly productive for me - I hadn't meant to get that much done, but somehow I did. I also managed to read an entire book over the weekend - a gothic mystery set in a mansion in San Francisco. It was End Of Story by A.J. Finn. It was a little slow and somewhat overwritten (I'm going to laugh at "pennants of fog" forever), but the mystery was good, I liked the characters, and overall, I enjoyed it. It was more like Knives Out rather than Agatha Christie.

Gym was good today, a combo of mostly the earthquake bar and boxing. I'll be feeling all of that tomorrow!

I hope everyone is having a good afternoon.
