Happy Belated Birthday Zetta!🎂

Good morning.
Ron, did the news report what was flying in the night sky?

Thanks, Judith I think I will stick o what I have or withdraw it and put it under my mattress. Not really, yet.
Jeremy came and installed my new 30,000 BTU propane heater - glad that is done. He said to leave e pilot on all the time. That will kind of bother me if I go somewhere.
I think I will put the Dura Flame in the bedroom. Maybe open the door to the sunroom. Probably will heat both. I sleep in a cool room, not much heat at all. GPs can't stand much heat but they will stay out more this winter.
Now to get the car home. Has everyone had their flu and/or covid shots? I haven't but plan to.
Ron, UFOs? Darwin and his daughter can't explain what they saw either.

Update on the ufo’s! Grandson had filmed what we saw and sent to us. My son had text me and asked to forward to him. All I had that was sent to me was a black screen, which is what my son had also. Now I’m anxious for my grandson to come home from school to see if it has turned black on his phone. It’s just like we didn’t see what we saw!

Ron, sounds like a Starlink Satellite train. Elon Musk's Starlink internet service via satellites. You are lucky to have seen it! I'd love to see it! "The Starlink "satellite train" is a temporary, visual phenomenon that occurs after a SpaceX rocket launches a new batch of Starlink satellites. The purpose of the train is not the service itself, but the process of the satellites separating from each other and gradually moving to their final orbits over several months to form SpaceX's global satellite internet constellation."

Last time I saw a string of lights like that, we were sitting by a campfire and agreed that if anything came out of the woods from the direction the lights were going, we were in the car and gone without the tent. The news the next day said it had been an old Russian satellite that had fallen out of orbit and broken up, and the pieces were burning up in the atmosphere. Or, as one of my friends said, "That's what they want us to think." 👽️ Beth's explanation makes as much sense. Or it could have been a meteor that broke up as it entered the atmosphere.
Ron, have you heard a screech owl yet? A screech owl is a ball of feathers about the size of your fist, but it will make you believe in witches if you don't know what it is. I have seen men get out of bed and start loading guns when those birds sing.
Glad you all are getting your heating systems ready. A cold winter is expected. I asked the old Indian what the winter would be, and he said "Cold. White man make big woodpile." ❄️

I reread Ron's description of the lights, and I agree with Beth. A string like that is most likely a satellite train. Or the Polar Express 😊
Maybe we should go to Hornet (near Joplin MO) some night and look at the spook light. People have been seeing that for 100 years and no one has been able to do more than guess at what it might be.

Ron the.lights you saw were up on the sky, right? The.ones Darwin and his daughter saw were not. It was like balls of light, four colors, streaming past. I thought about swamp gas.but they were out in the pasture behind his house, not very close to his creek..That was the last night the northern lights were visible. Strange thing.

Beth, you’re right, I googled it and the picture was exactly what we saw. Darn it! I was hoping after seeing it they would come back for me and “Take (me) to where no man has gone before”.
Ron

Good night, everyone.

What a great group, that can decipher UFOs!
I'm turning on the heat tonight, it's cold, Brrr!
Good night.

Good morning, heavy rain and thunder!
Ron

Morning, no rain yet but very humid and cloudy. Supposed to get heavy rain lae morning with possibility of storms.

The yard man is spraying granular fertilizer on the lawn this morning. We expect more rain later and expect the fertilizer will be well soaked in. I'm going to lunch at the senior center, then to the indoor pistol range with S. HOA board meeting this evening.
The Grief Share class on surviving the holidays went well. We had video, discussion, coffee and pastries. The class was 90% women, which is no surprise since it happened in the middle of the day on a weekday, when the young men are usually at work. No, Ron, I didn't chat up the women.

Good morning. It was frosty here when I woke up and is still in the 30s. But form some reason, the township has their lawn mowing crew working on the right-of-way along the 2-land state highway behind the house. It's noisy. Because of the shape of the berm, it's something of a whispering gallery. I can make out conversations on the porch of the police station across the street from my office and hall bath. Especially on a damp day. FTR, it didn't look in need of mowing when I drove by yesterday but whatever.
My PCP appointment went well. She ordered me all manner of bloodwork and a CT calcium scoring to be done in ahead of our Medicare Wellness visit in the summer. She also lined me up with the new endocrinologist since my former one finally retired to spend more time with the grands.
I dropped mom off at the grocery store ahead of the appointment and met up with her after I'd had the appointment and picked up some things I needed for dinner. This was about 50 minutes later— she had 3 items in her cart two of which were Heath Bar chips and vanilla paste. I had to spend another 45 minutes shopping with her. Gah!
There's no wind today, so I might finish putting my beds to sleep for the winter.
I hope all have a peaceful day.

Good morning.
Due to the time change, the sun shone brightly into my bedroom window and reflected on the mirror, it was a nice wake-up.
Today I'm going to play Bunco with my friends.

Good morning.
Today includes exercise class, getting my nails done (I do this rarely; it's a treat for me) and going to the dentist to have a new retainer made. I had braces 15 or 20 years ago and still have been using the retainer they provided. It's not in the best of shape.
It drizzled yesterday and the grass is still wet. It's also very foggy.
Iris, enjoy Bunco! I've heard of it but am not familiar with it or how it is played. Socialization is a good thing; glad you are going.
HB, sounds like you were pleased with your new PCP. Hope you are able to get your garden put to bed. My garden is put to bed - cleaned off plant material, composted and mulched. I'm still making compost but not hard or time consuming for me to do that; I just add items as I have them. I did go to two parks and raked up a bunch of leaves for my compost. I will try to save some to stir into the compost next spring and summer when leaves are not available.
I watched Wicked (part 1) yesterday. I'd seen it before but it was long enough ago that I wanted to refresh my memory before going to Wicked part 2. It was very enjoyable. Some of the songs have been running through my head since watching. By the way, it's on Amazon prime.
Carl, good that you are getting your lawn work done for now.
What are everyone's Thanksgiving plans? I am hosting. There will be 8 of us. Me and my hubby and son and his family. I am making the turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy and a pumpkin pie and pecan pie. DIL will bring side dishes and rolls. We also have a Thanksgiving potluck after church Sunday. I may have to avoid the scale after these!!!
Take care and have a nice day!
Beth

Cardiologist nurse called late yesterday canceling my appointments for today due to provider emergency. She has put in a request for an outside provider to see me. Just doesn’t seem like I can get a break lately.
Carl, the grief sharing I attended in Louisiana was mostly women also. The group I was in, I was the only male. The other group which was ones that had lost a child, had more men in it. I don’t know if losing a spouse more men die off are if most men feel they are too macho to need support. Now Carl, I want you to realize that if more men die earlier, that there is plenty of women out there and you don’t need to hog them all.

Ron, that's one more example of life isn't fair. Just when I get to the age when I'd as soon go fishing . . .

Good morning. Heavy rain has been going on for several hours. Its nice to have gone back and caught up on everyone's postings. Hopefully I can keep up now. At least that's the goal.
DH has had a multitude of PT appts and surgeon appts. Not complaining, but it takes up a lot of time. And I have to remind and help him with his "home PT" which again takes time. I'm glad that I've learned he's the priority and everything else can wait - I just have to remind myself of that occasionally!
My funny story for you. I was pulling into the garage and my car's navigation system (which wasn't turned on) loudly said "oops, something went wrong." DH & I looked at each other and burst out laughing. Then the screen showed directions to the pulmonologist office! We've not been to that office in 6 months. How crazy is that? So now DH's new saying is oops, something went wrong!

My car is.back home after 15 days and $1535. They have searched for the rat, .couldn't find him but think he is still in the car. What is a person to do if they couldn't find him in 15 days? I have a big trap and a couple of live catch traps I guess we can put in it. I have poison but scared to use poison because I'm afraid it will eat it, get out of the car and into the yard where the GPs might find it.
Have had .5" of rain so far. Have had two deliveries plus two cars when they brought mine home and everyone says the roads are horrible. The road is bad because they put in a couple of culverts and didn't gravel. I don't have to get out but Darwin has a doctor's appt. tomorrow. May be back later.

Now that I'm sitting still for a bit …
Lorita - I've had all of the vaccines. Glad I'm up to date.
About the unexplained lights- I'm with the group who believes it to be the Starlink Satellite train. I haven't seen it in person, but I've seen photos.
Carl - I had to go look up the spook light. I found several articles - including this one.
Beth - you're waaaaay better than me. I had braces in high school and I couldn't get rid of that retainer fast enough. I probably should have worn it longer than I did, but in spite of my bad choices, my teeth are still pretty straight.
About Wicked - I haven't seen the movies or stage shows, but I read the book (and loved it).
My s.o. and I are now in San Francisco and both of our dance cards are full! Today was a cut and color for me, so I'm now re-purpled. 🙂 Tonight we're having dinner with my cousin and her new boyfriend. My cousin is always entertaining, so I'm sure it'll be a good time. She's the cousin who used to do roller derby, and who has had knee surgery multiple times.
Tomorrow is breakfast with my former law partner and then the afternoon with V. We'll spend time with him and see if he needs anything, and if so, we'll take care of it for him. Tomorrow night is Death Guild v Meat at DNA Lounge. Can't miss that - goth and industrial! There will be BBQ for the meat-eaters. That's a nice, but messy, touch.
Saturday is brunch with friends, then an early thanksgiving with the family. We're bringing condiments and a few bottles of wine (a red, a white, and a rosé). We go back to the cold waste on Sunday. 🙂
I'm tired just thinking about all of it!!!!

GG sounds like you have a.lot of things planned. Hope all goes as you have planned. So, is all your.hair purple.now? I have only colored mine twice and thought it was too much trouble. Now it's all silver except the bottom 3-4" that are still mostly brown. Judith nsck BB to peppermint. I

Beth, Bunco was great today. I had the most Buncos today. I had never even heard of Bunco until a lady sat next to me on one of my trips and she invited me to her home to play Bunco, and I've been playing it ever since. That was about three years ago. We play at each other's homes and in December we have a luncheon at a restaurant and exchange small gifts.
I was invited to a Thanksgiving dinner but I believe I will stay home, I don't feel like going out and making small talk. But I will see how I feel. I should aim to be more sociable.
Lorita, $1535 ouch! I do hope you won't have any more trouble!
Time for bed. Good night.

Good morning! Who likes to sit on the porch and read?
I am getting ready to re-read "The Day the World came to town" - about this: "When 38 jetliners bound for the United States were forced to land at Gander International Airport in Canada by the closing of U.S. airspace on September 11, the population of this small town on Newfoundland Island swelled from 10,300 to nearly 17,000. The citizens of Gander met the stranded passengers with an overwhelming display of friendship and goodwill."
Also, "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy - one of the best novels I've ever read and is a Pulitzer prize winner. Stephen King said in his opinion McCarthy is the very best novelist - about this: "A searing, post-apocalyptic novel about a father and son’s fight to survive that “only adds to McCarthy’s stature as a living master. It’s gripping, frightening and, ultimately, beautiful” (San Francisco Chronicle). One of The New York Times’s 100 Best Books of the 21st Century • A Kirkus Reviews Best Fiction Book of the Century
A father and his son walk alone through burned America. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind. It is cold enough to crack stones, and when the snow falls it is gray. The sky is dark. Their destination is the coast, although they don’t know what, if anything, awaits them there. They have nothing; just a pistol to defend themselves against the lawless bands that stalk the road, the clothes they are wearing, a cart of scavenged food—and each other."Also, "Northeaster" - about this: "Cathie Pelletier’s breathtaking account of the 1952 snowstorm that blanketed New England, offers a valuable reminder about nature’s capacity for destruction as well as insight into the human instinct for preservation.
Northeaster weaves together a rich cast of characters whose lives were uprooted and endangeredby the storm. Housewives and lobstermen, loggers and soldiers were all trapped as snow piled in drifts twenty feet high. The storm smothered hundreds of travelers in their cars, covered entire towns, and broke ships in half. In the midst of the blizzard’s chaos, there were remarkable acts of heroism and courageous generosities. Doctors braved the storm to help deliver babies. Ordinary people kept their wits while buried in their cars, and others made their way out of forests to find kind-hearted strangers willing to take them in."I recently bought "The Look" by Michelle Obama. Very beautiful book, with amazing photos.
What will I read next? Maybe I'll look for more Cormac McCarthy books. Suggestions welcome.
Iris, glad you enjoy Bunco. I have a friend who is retired but busy. She is a sub for Bunco, she plays in her church's bell choir and she delivers Meals on Wheels one day a week. She also is a master scrapbooker.
Carl, surprised to hear you still have ash trees. The Emerald Ash borer has pretty much decimated all in our area - either they've died or were removed prophylactically. When you spoke of property tax, I thought you meant house taxes - for which $40 would be unheard of! lol
Judith, I admire you for organizing. When my MIL went to the nursing home, we had to clean out her house. It wasn't messy, but the basement was FULL. She saved EVERYTHING. Example: When we would give her a gift, she would use scissors to neatly remove the gift wrap and save it - but she never used it. Her gifts given were always $$. Also, she had saved my husband's "Boy's Life" magazines. (He was over 60 years old!!!) And then, there was my mom's house. It was approximately 1700 sq feet with a full basement. The main living area had bookcases built in (books were in there in two rows, ie a book was pushed in and another right behind it); she also had lots of drawers and cupboards and they were all full. She had a large metal desk in her bedroom, a desk in the office and another desk in the living room. She had a shoebox in her closet that was filled with the obituary papers you get when you attend a funeral. Oh, and the basement: it was pure chaos! At my mom's we filled 5 large dumpsters and sold, gave away or took the other items she had. It was a nightmare. Anyone who cleans out so their kids don't have to are doing a very good thing.
Ron, sorry about your medical problems and pain. Sorry your provider cancelled, but just be glad that you were not the person having the emergency.
Lorita, glad you got your car back and sorry about the damages and the cost. Sometimes it seems like it's just one thing after another going wrong. 😕
Zetta, hope you are enjoying life and no busier than you want to be.
Eagle, welcome back. Life is too busy with appointments sometimes! But, if they can provide help for your DH that is a good thing.
GG, enjoy San Francisco. Is that where you practiced law? And where one of your friends with dementia lives? You've traveled a lot lately! Enjoy!
JeriLynn, I so enjoy your photos. Glad you and DH are getting to travel. Sounds relaxing.
Mint, always good to hear from you. Hope all is well for you and your family.
Missing Tiger Mom, Marie, Sandy (2 Sandys), Barbara, Caro Lynn. Sorry for anyone I missed. Give us a shout out when you have a minute.
Hugs, Beth

Lorita…usually I can usually figure out what it being written but not this time " Judith nsck BB to peppermint."
0 -
Judith, it was " back to peppermint". Thanks for my. laugh for today. Honestly I do proofread before posting and do make corrections. This tablet just makes changes on its own.
Beth those books sound good. I don't read much sitting on the porch -had rather watch the birds and girls. Going to spray the car and PU with diluted pine sol- can't find the peppermint oil right now.
0 -
Between AI and the troll what we type is out of our controll…
Peppermint oil on cotton balls or you can dilute and spray…that is peppermint oil not flavoring
New storage unit…chairdrobe
0 -
Just ordered peppermint spray to deter rodents. At least it will smell better than Grandpa Gus! Unused cotton pads for. the pine sol. I have a couple of those chairrobes.
Beautiful day here-71 degrees and sunny.
0 -
the problem with the spray is that the scent will remain on anything sprayed. That is why I use the cotton balls….the essential oil is really inexpensive
