Just need to talk to my friends (214)
Happy 2026 to all our front porch friends. Hopefully this new year will be a better year for each of us and for our Country. Everyone is probably sound asleep right now and I will be in a few minutes, too. Stormy needed to go outside for a minute and I just thought I would get 214 started. See you later.

Welcome 2026! May it be a better one for all of us.
We're have a very short snow squall at the moment. It's pretty but I'm glad I don't have to be out in it.

Good morning everyone and Happy New Year!
I’ll be serving up pan fried pork chops, black eyed peas, turnip greens, copper pennies, cornbread and sweet tea on the porch this afternoon.
So bring your favorite dish and we’ll fellowship with good food and friendship to celebrate the New Year!!

Good morning and Happy New Year!
Before bed last night I made cinnamon rolls. DH was one happy guy this morning when he saw them! I will say, homemade cinnamon rolls just taste good. And the house smells great.
The plan for today is to not have a plan! We are just hanging at home and very happy to do so.
Be safe everyone. I'll be back to check on each of you. I want to watch the parade with a blanket on my lap and hot tea in my cup. Yup, gonna be relaxing today.

I will celebrate with a few Frango Mints…..

Happy New Year one and all!
Homemade cinnamon rolls get my vote! I'm making lasagna today and having my dad over. We'll go get him so he doesn't have to drive home after dark.

I love copper pennies but haven't made them in a while. Really good with brown beans but what isn't?
Eagle, I have never made cinnamon rolls but I bought frozen ones that you have to thaw and let rise, then bake. Haven't tried them yet. Sarah used to make them and the wife of one of our social workers and they were so good. Is the yeast dough hard to make?
Judith what are Frango mints? I just had a Lindor chocolate and I split a package of peanut butter crackers with Stormy.
Warm here, 64 but getting cloudy. We might have a shower in the morning. We just had the third driest December recorded-no rain and it's so dry. Also had a very warm month.

Happy New Year, Fellow Rockers!
I woke up late and missed the Parade, but one channel will play it all day, so I can still see it. The weather is partially cloudy and warm right now, I hope the Parade wasn't ruined.
I have my hoppin' john ready for dinner. But JeriLynn, what are copper pennies?
I'm getting ready to do my calendar for the year. I write down all the birthdays. People are always amazed that I remember their birthdays, but that's because I wrote them in red on my calendar.

Happy New Year!!
Oh, Lorita - we had you beat! We didn't get to bed before 5am. We stayed up and danced in the atrium.
The atrium is kind of a weird space with the skylights at the top, and it stays very cold in there (no heat). Here's what the dressed up atrium looks like (I'm standing in the living room looking in) -
Then at around 4am I pulled my cinnamon rolls out of the refrigerator to warm them up, then I baked them, and we each munched one before finally getting to sleep. 🙂 My alarm woke me up at noon. Such a great way to start the new year.
And you know, they aren't that hard to make, just time-consuming, but so worth it.
So yeah, fresh cinnamon rolls for the porch!
JeriLynn - what are copper pennies?
eaglemom - I'm right there with you about cinnamon rolls.
We're not doing much of anything today, just hanging out listening to music (different than last night's selections).
Iris - did you watch the Rose Parade?
I hope you all have a wonderful and restful day.

GG, the atrium looks so nice. Do you keep plants out there in the summer? You all have m me.craving cinnamon rolls so may thaw and.bake couple of those frozen ones tomorrow in the NuWave oven, Sandy.
I saw something on the news tonight that was awful- a Policeman somewhere in California heard whimpering and found a little puppy in a self compacting trash can. Don't know if it was.hurt but was alive and he adopted it. It was so cute. What kind of monster would do something like that? He will pay for that sometime.
Power is about gone. Good night.

I saw that too, Lorita! May the culprit burn in he**!
It's 8:30 pm and I'm watching the rerun of the Tournament of Roses Parade. If anyone missed it and wants to see it, it's on ktla.com, the ktla app and on several streaming services.
I couldn't think of anything to write for my New Year's Resolution, so I am resolution-less this year.
GG, is your atrium at your home? Cool!

I think this was my favorite Tournament of Roses Parade! I enjoyed ALL of the floats, the marching bands, the entertainment and the especially all the equestrian units. I even enjoyed seeing the hardy Parade viewers who braved the rain. The America250 Float with the soaring eagles was amazing and so lifelike! All the announcers and crew who put this Parade on did a wonderful job.

Morning, have a safe trip, Ron.
Iris, I didn't watch all of the parade but my favorite part was the float with the three eagles. Amazing,, just like they were flying through the rain.
We had a little rain last night, but not much. Back later.

Today is Sarah's birthday. She would have been 54. Hard to believe she has been gone almost a year and half. She left us on her great grandmother's birthday, July 26.

Good afternoon. It is still moist out here in SoCal.
I hope you have good memories of Sarah, Lorita.

I do, Iris, from the time she wss born four months before Charles and I got married to taking her to daycare when she was two or three. We helped raise her so she was like our daughter. She is well now and not suffering.
Ron, glad you made the trip safely. Rest and sleep well tonight

Good morning. Another cold day on tap here. We may see warmer temps and rain later next week.

Good morning.
Ron I'm glad your back safe and sound. Rest up now.
Nothing much on hand until later in the day. We have 'Soup & Games' at at friends house. We started this several years ago. Finger foods, soup and of course dessert. We'll play several games and have lots of laughs. Its our way of starting the new year with happiness, friendship and fun.
Be safe everyone.

I do that sometimes and it does hurt. I can't sleep on either side because of my costo so that makes my back hurt. Feel better, rub the sore places with pain relieving cream-used to be called Theragesic.

Good morning.
Ron, you may be dehydrated from all that driving. Drink some fluids and rest up. I wrote this last night but it didn't get posted.
Eagle, Soup and Games, what a great way to spend a day!
Judith, I always feel stiff when I first get out of bed. Isn't it awful?

If I get up and nothing hurts, I'm afraid I died in the night 😉 Turmeric capsules helped DW's arthritic knee more than anything else, seemed to reduce the inflammation and pain.
Just a typical January day here in SW MO, 35 F and grey skies. A day like this will depress me if I let it.
I went pistol shooting with Sean yesterday, then we watched a movie at his house with coffee with Bailey's Irish Cream. Sean's youngest dog has taken a liking to me and napped on the couch next to me after crawling all over me. Sassy is a beautiful Pekingese and young enough to be really active and I get dog hair all over me and my hands thoroughly licked every time I visit.
Had lunch at the diner today and talked to John about the Chiefs for a little while. John is 100 years old and fought the Japanese army on an island in the south Pacific. John uses a walker, but he lives alone and drives himself to the diner and, I assume, everywhere else he wants to go. Just when I'm feeling old, here he comes, old enough to be my father and still kicking.
