We're having false Spring here, 59 F and sunny. We expect rain Thursday, and temperatures in the 40's by the weekend.

I went by the diner this afternoon and ate cashew chicken and tea while I watched the news on TV. The diner doesn't usually have rice or cashew chicken, but they make it occasionally as a special. They serve a good breakfast any time they're open (6 AM - 8:30 PM) and a lot of meat and potatoes. You can eat healthily there if you try, but most of the menu caters to working men, retirees, and budget-minded travelers who are staying in the motels nearby. For those who are not trying to eat healthily, there are fried steaks, fried tenderloin, fried pork chops, fried chicken, fried shrimp, BBQ pork ribs, and three kinds of fried fish. There are about a dozen side dishes, most of them potatoes, and a variety of soups, salads, and sandwiches. I usually eat eggs, pancakes, and fresh fruit or grilled chicken with steamed or grilled veggies, but I made an exception today, probably because I napped through lunch and was really hungry.

I am living really quietly and haven't spent a night away from home in several years. I hope to resume traveling next Spring, maybe rent a car and go east to see my brother and/or take a riverboat cruise on the Mississippi.

GG, as long as you hit the gym and eat well you will probably never need Alfred Dunner. Dunner is really popular with those who need him, and Macy's and Penney's have whole rows of his elastic waist pants and floral blouses.

I once attended services at a Frank Lloyd Wright church in Kansas City. The church built an addition and FLW made them take his name off it, but you could see the spare functionality in the sanctuary.

I went to bed about 10 but I'm wide awake again at 2:45 AM. My computer has begun feeding me articles about "why seniors wake up at 3 AM" which makes me suspect it tracks when the PC is turned on as well as what I read. I have had this sleep pattern most of my life so I don't bother to read the articles.

I'm going to try to go back to sleep. TTYL 😴

Good morning. For some reason I slept really late; when I woke the room was so light I was momentarily angry DS had turned on the hall light. I can't blame him. This time.

Lorita— It's so nice to here that Billy is doing well. It's sweet that he elected to have lunch with you instead the other ladies.

Judith— Will the gifts be sent? Returned? I once bought a couple Christmas gifts for DS on vacation when he was about 10 and forgot about them until COVID hit and I cleaned out the closet. DS was about 27ish when I finally gave them to him.

Carl— The diner sounds great. Friend tenderloin may be my DH's absolute favorite food but is not something one can get where we live. There is a German restaurant we frequent that does a schnitzel that could go on a bun if he would just ask but he feels funny asking. Duh.

Ironically, my MIL who rocked the Alfred Dunner capsule wardrobes wore a 4Petite. I'd have gotten 2Ps if they offered them. They reminded me of Garanimals for older ladies— I'd buy a pair of pants, a skirt, blouse, top or sweater and maybe a jacket and it all went together which was great when she and the other little old ladies would pile in the car and travel over the summer.

Interesting that the FLW insisted on being disassociated with the church once the addition was made. His famous synagogue isn't far from here. It's really pretty lit at night. It's probably blasphemy, but it always kind of reminded me of Kowloon in Saugus, MA. IYKYK.

Gothic G— I really miss the heyday of Liz Claiborne back before she hopped in bed with JCPenney. Their marketing strategy was to roll out clothing capsules regularly but within the current season which was novel at the time. The thought was that you could buy something today and actually wear it today. Talbots does do that to a certain degree, but LC was first.

I agree that Alfred Dunner is ideal. They're sort of like formal sweats and the wash really well. I had to laugh at mom's insistence that the sweater looked AD.

I managed to get one tree taken down and will attempt to get at least one more down today. The weather is good for taking down the outdoor lights as well. Tuna melts for dinner tonight.

Off to unload the dishwasher. I had to re-run it this morning because the tablet didn't dissolve properly which meant the dishes got a good rinse but not clean. That's an annoying first.

I hope those having a break in winter weather get a chance to enjoy it.

Yes, the gifts will be mailed Friday. I try to get out and about every day and I will tack mailing onto Morgan Stanley.

I used to have a grey suit with a jacket, a reversible solid/plaid vest, and two pairs of pants that matched the sides of the vest. It was a capsule wardrobe with the addition of a couple of white shirts and a tie or two, really handy for business trips. I was slim enough to look good in a vest in those days (mid-70s) and everyone was wearing vests.

I’ve been up since 2:30 this morning and would go back to bed if I didn’t have other things to do in a couple of hours. I was waking up all through the night hot, was actually afraid I had a fever. After finally getting up, I turned the electric heater off and made my coffee. After the propane heater came in from the camper I knew something wasn’t right. Checked the thermostat and found it was set a little over 80, I turned it way down and just now feeling comfortable. I guess it’s the hormone shots I have to take for the prostate cancer, but u have to have it cool especially when sleeping.

Son and DIL ride to work together and DIL needs to go to DMV this morning, so I will take her and then take her to work in Springfield, then hopefully make it back to my bed.

I found a tub of gumbo in the store the other day and decided to buy where I could compare it to gumbo I’m use to. I tried a cup of gumbo at a restaurant last month and it had a good flavor but not enough substance. When I told my son about finding the gumbo he asked me where it was made. I hadn’t even looked previously so I got it out of the freezer and found out it was from New England. My son said; Dad, if it’s not Louisiana throw that crap away.

I’m still having difficulty with my new environment. In Louisiana I was in a comfortable home and had friends, but no family close. Here I have family close (but mainly just able to spend quality time in weekends they are not working and the only friend I’ve made is Carl. I really don’t understand how I could be so outgoing when Lou was alive, but am not now. I was the youngest and really the rebel of four, my three siblings were not outgoing at all but even though I never got into trouble, I tried. Now two of my siblings are gone and here after almost two years I’m still wondering why I’m here.

At my condo today the hot water heater is bring replaced, so the water will be shut off all day, starting in one hour. So I plan to find things to do away from home today.

Good afternoon. I'm in the midst of taking down my largest Christmas tree and cursing my decision to put up all 3. The other two are pretty straightforward— I have all the original boxes, and the trees are smaller so I can strip one of them in under an hour. I'm starting tote #2 of 3 and have ways to go before I'm done.

Sat in on a virtual information session on a local nursing program with DS; he wanted a second set of ears. Catching up on laundry, too.

@jfkoc IYKYK is "if you know you know". In my use it was to juxtapose an important (both religious and artistically speaking) building on the National Register of Historic Places with a campy Chinese restaurant where fights break out regularly in the bar.
