I just came back from the mailbox and most of the girls wete.bunched up by the gate looking west. When I turned around I saw a white truck coming. As I drove back home I heard it honking. It was one of the feedtrucks. He had been feeding West of us and they heard him. They know the sound of the feed trucks. They started coming up to the MH where they feed so had to walk half a mile.
Sandy, I saw Billy start to go up.but got his feed and called him and he came.back. I was happy to see him not limping.

Ron, you managed quite a lot of driving in a few days. Good for you! Will you be able to rest up now?
My prior post is supposed to be "I lead a quiet life", instead of I read a quiet life.

We're having false Spring here, 59 F and sunny. We expect rain Thursday, and temperatures in the 40's by the weekend.
I went by the diner this afternoon and ate cashew chicken and tea while I watched the news on TV. The diner doesn't usually have rice or cashew chicken, but they make it occasionally as a special. They serve a good breakfast any time they're open (6 AM - 8:30 PM) and a lot of meat and potatoes. You can eat healthily there if you try, but most of the menu caters to working men, retirees, and budget-minded travelers who are staying in the motels nearby. For those who are not trying to eat healthily, there are fried steaks, fried tenderloin, fried pork chops, fried chicken, fried shrimp, BBQ pork ribs, and three kinds of fried fish. There are about a dozen side dishes, most of them potatoes, and a variety of soups, salads, and sandwiches. I usually eat eggs, pancakes, and fresh fruit or grilled chicken with steamed or grilled veggies, but I made an exception today, probably because I napped through lunch and was really hungry.
I am living really quietly and haven't spent a night away from home in several years. I hope to resume traveling next Spring, maybe rent a car and go east to see my brother and/or take a riverboat cruise on the Mississippi.

Sounds like a good place to eat, Carl. I'm about ready to go to bed and watch tv a while. Seems like it has been a long day.
Everyone sleep well. Good night..

Beth - I've never been inside a Frank Lloyd Wright house, but they're gorgeous from the outside. If you have a photo or two, I'd love to see them.
Lorita - Oh, absolutely (about the foot exercise link). I've been doing a few of them myself.
HB - I've seen that too with department stores - although in my case it's all about lighter spring clothing. This makes no sense to me. I'd love a cozy, fluffy sweater, not a sleeveless top. It's January, after all.
Funny about Alfred Dunner. I'd never heard of that brand before my sister went into memory care. Once there, we got black Dunner pull on pants for her. Not pretty, but not sweatpants either.
HB & Judith - I'd never heard that about the unlivability of FLW houses.
Carl - I'd love to see a false spring right about now, although there's a tree in our back yard that is horribly confused. It thinks it's spring and is covered in little pink blossoms.
At the diner with all of the fried foods - fried fish, fried chicken, fried shrimp … it's almost like the Monty Python spam sketch. Spam, spam, spam, spam (with Vikings). Such a silly show.
I love your idea about beginning to travel again.
The last couple of days have been really busy for me. Yesterday Karyn and I spent most of the afternoon and evening (through half of Death Guild!) prepping the blog so that it could go live today. So many fiddly things! Mostly we were moving photos from one post to another post, and dealing with captioning of the photos, I spent the majority of today unpublishing most of the posts I already had on the blog (they're now in draft form to be published on Tuesdays and Thursdays). I also have stuff in place to deal with spam and bots. Ugh.
But then tonight it went live! Finally! I put it up on bluesky using the #alzheimer's hashtag. My hope is that it's of use to others as they go down this road that none of us wanted to travel. In a couple of weeks, once there are a few more posts up, I'll post it to the caregivers and spouse forum here. If you're curious of its current iteration it's here in wordpress form: fiveandahalfyears.net
Thankfully I managed to get to the gym today for a little activity.

GG, as long as you hit the gym and eat well you will probably never need Alfred Dunner. Dunner is really popular with those who need him, and Macy's and Penney's have whole rows of his elastic waist pants and floral blouses.
I once attended services at a Frank Lloyd Wright church in Kansas City. The church built an addition and FLW made them take his name off it, but you could see the spare functionality in the sanctuary.
I went to bed about 10 but I'm wide awake again at 2:45 AM. My computer has begun feeding me articles about "why seniors wake up at 3 AM" which makes me suspect it tracks when the PC is turned on as well as what I read. I have had this sleep pattern most of my life so I don't bother to read the articles.
I'm going to try to go back to sleep. TTYL 😴

Good morning.
GG, those foot exercises look to be very beneficial for painful feet! Thanks for posting them.
Carl, the Alfred Dunner site says it's fashion for older women. Yea! I'll have to get to J C Penney's and Macy's to check out the selection. I haven't shopped for a while because I am waiting to lose some more weight. I have enough clothes at my current size.
Today is the one year anniversary of the horrific fires in Pacific Palisades, Malibu and Altadena. There will be reminiscing all day. Recovery has been slow.

Good morning. For some reason I slept really late; when I woke the room was so light I was momentarily angry DS had turned on the hall light. I can't blame him. This time.
Lorita— It's so nice to here that Billy is doing well. It's sweet that he elected to have lunch with you instead the other ladies.
Judith— Will the gifts be sent? Returned? I once bought a couple Christmas gifts for DS on vacation when he was about 10 and forgot about them until COVID hit and I cleaned out the closet. DS was about 27ish when I finally gave them to him.
Carl— The diner sounds great. Friend tenderloin may be my DH's absolute favorite food but is not something one can get where we live. There is a German restaurant we frequent that does a schnitzel that could go on a bun if he would just ask but he feels funny asking. Duh.
Ironically, my MIL who rocked the Alfred Dunner capsule wardrobes wore a 4Petite. I'd have gotten 2Ps if they offered them. They reminded me of Garanimals for older ladies— I'd buy a pair of pants, a skirt, blouse, top or sweater and maybe a jacket and it all went together which was great when she and the other little old ladies would pile in the car and travel over the summer.
Interesting that the FLW insisted on being disassociated with the church once the addition was made. His famous synagogue isn't far from here. It's really pretty lit at night. It's probably blasphemy, but it always kind of reminded me of Kowloon in Saugus, MA. IYKYK.Gothic G— I really miss the heyday of Liz Claiborne back before she hopped in bed with JCPenney. Their marketing strategy was to roll out clothing capsules regularly but within the current season which was novel at the time. The thought was that you could buy something today and actually wear it today. Talbots does do that to a certain degree, but LC was first.
I agree that Alfred Dunner is ideal. They're sort of like formal sweats and the wash really well. I had to laugh at mom's insistence that the sweater looked AD.

I managed to get one tree taken down and will attempt to get at least one more down today. The weather is good for taking down the outdoor lights as well. Tuna melts for dinner tonight.
Off to unload the dishwasher. I had to re-run it this morning because the tablet didn't dissolve properly which meant the dishes got a good rinse but not clean. That's an annoying first.
I hope those having a break in winter weather get a chance to enjoy it.

Frank Lloyd Wright designed the famous Wayfarers Chapel. It has been totally demolished, brick by brick, in order to move it to a new site.
The prior site was at risk for collapsing due to earth movement in the area.
"Shortly after World War II, Chapel Architect Lloyd Wright, son of pioneering American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, found his inspiration for the design of The Wayfarers Chapel on a trip in the redwood forests of northern California. When he saw how the redwood trees formed a majestic cathedral-like sanctuary, he decided to use that concept as the basis for the Chapel’s design. The glass structure creates a sense of transient space, being simultaneously inside and outside. Lloyd Wright’s design is one of the foremost examples of organic architecture and has inspired many other buildings around the world. In 2023, Wayfarers Chapel became a National Historic Landmark."
You can search to see photos. The site I checked is fundraising to help with moving to the new site, so I didn't make a link.
We have so many interesting topics to talk about!

Hair cut then appt with NP to find out if my PCP is retiring or moving. The letter came with suggestions for PCPs who. are way off my plateau.
Yes, the gifts will be mailed Friday. I try to get out and about every day and I will tack mailing onto Morgan Stanley.

Morning, another pretty, warm day in January. We have been lucky. I let the GPs out just as the sun was coming up. It was glorious - just made me feel good to see it. There were streaks of blue and dark pink from North to South and it was reflected in the pond.. Just beautiful - made my day.

I used to have a grey suit with a jacket, a reversible solid/plaid vest, and two pairs of pants that matched the sides of the vest. It was a capsule wardrobe with the addition of a couple of white shirts and a tie or two, really handy for business trips. I was slim enough to look good in a vest in those days (mid-70s) and everyone was wearing vests.

That is a beautiful house, Beth, very spacious looking.
Carl, that was almost a complete wardrobe - sounds nice.
I have worn probably 75-85% Denim &Co. clothes for the past 30 Years or more. They are very well made, launder well and are very comfortable .Also Haband has jeans I like to wear at home. Sandy, this is so weird that I can't for the life of me think of the other company you and I like.
Very windy this afternoon with 90% chance of rain tomorrow. Billy was in the lot for his feed today but all the others were around so couldn't feed him- maybe tomorrow.

Carl - Floral blouses just make me want to cry. They're like anti-GG clothing. I have nothing against them, they're just not for me. If I live to be 90, I'll still be wearing black.
Speaking of eating well, after my birthday (which is coming up), I'll be going back on the ABCs (no alcohol, no bread, no (processed) carbs for about three months. I want to wait until after my b-day because I want a big slice of chocolate cake - with frosting. 🙂
Iris - those fires were just devastating. It's hard to believe just how devastating they were.
Beth - I loved the photos of the FLW house! Thank you for posting the link.
HB - I went to the wikipedia page for the FLW synagogue and the interior isn't quite how I imagined, although it's got a lot of clean lines, like I would expect. Then I went to the Kowloon restaurant page, and now I can agree IYKYK.
I was so busy yesterday that I didn't get any of my Christmas decorations taken down. I remedied that today. I still have a little bit to go, but I'm well on the way.
This morning I grabbed a new mask for the gym and I only saw the back of the box, not the front. When I opened it, inside was a candide mask. Those are the ones I used to wear to memory care, and that Peggy associated with me, so I wore only those. I didn't realize I had any left, and I wondered if I could actually wear it now, given all of those memories. I must have crossed a bridge because I was able to wear it.
1 -
GG what is a candide mask?

Beth, thanks for posting about the Cedar Rick FLW home. I enjoyed the video.
Has anyone ever visited Falling Waters in Pennsylvania? I would love to visit.
Carl, you sound like a stylish guy!
Hello Zetta, do you have snow?
GG, New Yorkers like to wear all black, but SoCal likes everything: colors, neutrals, solids and prints, especially tee-shirts with cute sayings.
Lorita, I don't remember, why can't you feed Billy when the girls are around? Does he get distracted?
Going to bed soon. Good night.

Good morning,
I’ve been up since 2:30 this morning and would go back to bed if I didn’t have other things to do in a couple of hours. I was waking up all through the night hot, was actually afraid I had a fever. After finally getting up, I turned the electric heater off and made my coffee. After the propane heater came in from the camper I knew something wasn’t right. Checked the thermostat and found it was set a little over 80, I turned it way down and just now feeling comfortable. I guess it’s the hormone shots I have to take for the prostate cancer, but u have to have it cool especially when sleeping.
Son and DIL ride to work together and DIL needs to go to DMV this morning, so I will take her and then take her to work in Springfield, then hopefully make it back to my bed.
I found a tub of gumbo in the store the other day and decided to buy where I could compare it to gumbo I’m use to. I tried a cup of gumbo at a restaurant last month and it had a good flavor but not enough substance. When I told my son about finding the gumbo he asked me where it was made. I hadn’t even looked previously so I got it out of the freezer and found out it was from New England. My son said; Dad, if it’s not Louisiana throw that crap away.
I’m still having difficulty with my new environment. In Louisiana I was in a comfortable home and had friends, but no family close. Here I have family close (but mainly just able to spend quality time in weekends they are not working and the only friend I’ve made is Carl. I really don’t understand how I could be so outgoing when Lou was alive, but am not now. I was the youngest and really the rebel of four, my three siblings were not outgoing at all but even though I never got into trouble, I tried. Now two of my siblings are gone and here after almost two years I’m still wondering why I’m here.
Forgive me for once again rambling!
Ron

Morning, waiting for the rain and storms. Think I will just stay in bed. Iris, if I fed Billy when the others were around there would be a riot and they would eat all the feed.

Good morning.
At my condo today the hot water heater is bring replaced, so the water will be shut off all day, starting in one hour. So I plan to find things to do away from home today.
Lorita, I understand now about feeding Billy separately. He's fortunate that you make the effort to give him special time.

We had some rain and wind and were under a tornado alert. Carol told me about the alert. She had half an inch of rain. I slept through all of it except the beginning. I had gotten up and put on day clothes, then laid back down and went to sleep. We now have sunshine.

Good afternoon.
Warm and windy here today. Its bringing in cooler weather this weekend.
I have to very carefully and slowly take Christmas decorations down. DH enjoys them, which is why the two trees stay up year round. When he's distracted doing something I quickly sneak a decoration or two into my closet. When I get several in there I slowly put them, one at a time, in their proper boxes and away properly! He usually doesn't notice until July that all of Christmas is gone!!! Its much more work for me but much less anxiety for him when I do it this way.
Hope everyone is staying well. Let's everyone be safe.

Good afternoon. I'm in the midst of taking down my largest Christmas tree and cursing my decision to put up all 3. The other two are pretty straightforward— I have all the original boxes, and the trees are smaller so I can strip one of them in under an hour. I'm starting tote #2 of 3 and have ways to go before I'm done.
Sat in on a virtual information session on a local nursing program with DS; he wanted a second set of ears. Catching up on laundry, too.@jfkoc IYKYK is "if you know you know". In my use it was to juxtapose an important (both religious and artistically speaking) building on the National Register of Historic Places with a campy Chinese restaurant where fights break out regularly in the bar.

Good afternoon Porch Friends.
GG I don't blame you putting things off for chocolate cake I would do the same thing and not make a change till the cake was gone.
Iris. We got a few snowflaks this morning, but not sticking. We are close to the foothills that surround us, and ther is snow on them. So looks like we will be getting it soon. I do miss the Arizona, weather. If I was back there I'm sure I would be complaining about the heat.
Ron. I know what you mean about the new environment. I miss Oregon, it was my home. I still have a apartment there, my son lives in it. I miss him and my coffee stands and my favorite grocery stores, and all the people that work in them. I love living with my daughter. But I also miss being independent. I miss getting in my car and having a place to go. Now I'm rambling.
Judith. sorry for tne water dripping through your shingles, what is a can light?
Eaglemom. Thanks for the chuckle I got when you said your DH does not miss the Christmas decorations till July.
I hope you're all doing well today. Hugs Zetta
