Morning, stayed in bed until 10, sleeping and watching tv. When I got up saw Billy out front so put on my robe and took out feed for him. Then fed the birds. I see small birds with a crest on their head, dark gray color. No idea what they are.

Kind of dizzy feeling today so won't do much. Girls were way down in NE pasture when they came to feed. I know some of them didn't make it up there in time to get feed. One of "my" girls was limping so doubt she got feed. If they would feed at the same time the girls would be up there. Toad fed about the same time and so did we and they were nearby. In fact, we didn't open the gate until everyone was there. Guess it isn't my business but kind of hard to not think.

Stormy and I drove up to see what was being done on the data center and solar farm. It is awful!! I can't believe that people would let that happen to their land but guess money talks. Don't know if I mentioned it but one man sold his 160' acres for 20:million. What would a person do with that much money? So happy people north of us refused to lease. They are leasing or trying to lease to make these centers all over Oklahoma and some places are refusing.. More land is not being made so we better take care of it now. I was thoroughly upset about what I saw yesterday, needless to say. Back later.

Sit outside in the sun and soak up Vitamin D. I should do that, too.

    Good Afternoon Porch Friends,

What can I say but LIFE has been BUSY since before the holidays and continues. I guess with a husband, 30-something children, grandchildren, great grands and other relatives needing tending to that's just what it is… Life. But it's a good one.

I read every day to keep up with all your "doings"…. and I keep each of you in my prayers.

Today is "get organized day" for me. Filling out my desktop paper calendar with all the appointments we have, when bills are due, what projects we have going on, birthdays, etc. I absolutely have to have my big desk calendar. Using the phone does NOT work for me. Weird. I have almost all the bills set up on autopay except the ones I don't trust. The Water Department is notorious for mistakes and so is the Electric Company. And, DH and I have separate accounts and two homesteads so I have to keep up with all his stuff as well. If it's online banking, he's out of his league. Just will not involve himself with that. So that's my job, lol.

Dogs, goats and Oliver the Cat are all fine. We have NOT had any cold weather goat babies and no one "looks" pregnant so maybe we are in the clear until Spring. I sure hope so.

We have our trip to Port Aransas, Texas (an Island near Corpus Christi) coming up Feb. 1st. We'll be gone about 3 weeks. 2 weeks on the beach, then to San Antonio for the Rodeo which includes a Concert and a couple days to explore the sights. The River Walk is calling me. I haven't been in over a decade so I'm looking forward to seeing the changes. Then in April (fingers crossed), we head out towards New Mexico and beyond, ending up in Palm Springs, California before we return. Just in time for baby goats, high school and college graduations and getting the boat ready for the lake!

So, back to my desk calendar I go. Everyone be safe and have a good day. ❤️

Have a good time, JeriLynn. I love Riverwalk. I remember there was a bar called Tequila Mockingbird, which is pretty cool if you like puns as much as I do.

Sounds like you really need a rest, JeriLynn. Enjoy your travels. Good to hear from you.

Saw the cutest thing on David Muir's news tonight. Sort of standoff between a deer and a rhino. It said the deer was defending its mate but the rhino thought they were playing. They live together in the same area and are friends.

Got those three tvs down in the cellar today. There is water down there so slid them down the steps. They were pretty heavy.

Good football playoff game on tonight so my plan is to watch it. Odd the Chiefs aren't in the playoffs.

    Sleep tight everyone!

This is from this morning. Obviously it didn't post when I wrote it.

    Good morning.

Lorita, I believe New Iberia is the town close to Avery Island where the Tabasco place is.

Judith, what you describe as Louisiana hot sauce sounds more to my liking. I don't like Tabasco at all, and since I didn't like it, I never tried any other hot sauce.

Beth I like your horse sweater. But I'm with HB, when will they put our a cat sweater?

Zetta, you seem to be settling into your new home and finding places to shop and get coffee. There is a new Starbucks near me, but I have yet to try it. I'm not a big Starbucks fan. In fact, I prefer McDonald's coffee. I got some the other day when I broke down and bought a Quarter-Pounder.

Lorita, that front tucking seems to be popular. Now that the weather is cold, I tuck all around to keep my waist warm.

I hope you aren't too dizzy today!

    Two fun facts.

Jack in the Box restaurants pioneered drive-through ordering with its two-way intercom system. People spoke into a clown's head to give their orders. "Jack will speak you" a sign instructed drivers to speak to the clown's head. The restaurant celebrates its 75th anniversary this year.

Frank Lloyd Wright originated the modern kitchen open plan concept. Previously kitchens were small rooms in the back of the house or even in a separate building out back. Here is a small article about his vision for kitchens.

Lorita & Judith - I looked up Louisiana hot sauce - it looks good. You can buy it by the gallon on amazon!!

HB - cheery clothing at the Talbot's - yes. Cheery, and slightly formal. It's the "slightky formal" that I can't pull off.

I'm with your DS on the Cholula for Mexican food, as well as the sriracha for lots of other things.

Iris - I read an article about Tabasco and their island some time ago. Apparently the island is threatened now by climate change. Here's the article - it's from seven years ago - I guess that qualifies as "some time ago". 😄

Good news though in California - this is the first time in 25 years that all of California is drought-free! The snow pack is still an issue, but it's still a bit early on that. I can't remember a time when I wasn't aware of the water issues in CA. Even as a young child I was aware.

I enjoyed the FLW article, thanks for posting it.

Carl - I love that your doctor's office has a decorative skeleton (because of course I do!).

Zetta - Firefly isn't deep - at all. But I can understand why it might not appeal.

JeriLynn - You've got a lot on your plate - as always. How do you get it all done?

I could never use a phone as my primary calendar. Back when they were a thing, I always used Daytimers planners. Eventually I moved to the calendar on my Mac. That's what I use exclusively now. It's not at as good as my paper version, but it's good enough, I guess.

I hope you have a great time on your trip!

Over in my neck of the chilly woods — it's — chilly. This morning when I got up, it was so dark. It felt like I should still be asleep. There was no sun to speak of today, just a dark sky and drizzle. Still, I got stuff done, which felt good.

Before I went to the gym, I was munching a protein bar, and looking outside (the backyard), and I saw a bobcat saunter by. He was probably a couple of feet tall, and at least that long. Pretty cat. He looked like he owned the place, which he does, of course. I kept an eye out for him as I walked to the garage. Glad my morning wasn't any more eventful than it was!

GG, I read the article. Interesting, when I visited in 2024, there was no mention that Avery Island was sinking. Have you been down there? All of New Orleans is below sea level, it's very odd.

On another note, I'll see your bobcat and raise you a black bear.

This bear thought he had found a nice place to hibernate for the winter in a home's crawl space in Altadena, the same city that had so many homes lost to fires a year ago.

    Good night.

    Good afternoon

Beth that is beautiful sunrise. Ours was about those same colors this morning.

Lorita hope your dizziness is gone.

Morning, afternoon to our Eastern friends. Sunny, warm and windy here today but will be 30+ degrees colder tomorrow. This up and down temperature weather is hard on people and animals - causes lots of cases of pneumonia in cattle.

Mint, Still a little dizzy off and on especially if I turn my head quickly. Had this many years ago when I was working and the VA doctors never found what caused it. Beth, that was a beautiful sunrise - just makes a person be glad they are alive. I missed our sunrise this mornin. Just heard that the Clean Air Act has been discontinued. Good to live in the country, I guess. You can go to Cleanair.gov to check your air quality.

Have you all noticed if you are writing a post and someone posts, it kicks you out? At least it has happened to me!

Mint, I have been wanting to make an angel food cake but I don't have a cake cover tall enough. I tried using load pans but filled them too full so it was a disaster.

    Good afternoon.

Beth, that's a beautiful sunrise. Do you always arise early?

Lorita, yes, I've noticed the same thing, getting kicked off if someone posts. I noticed this has been happening recently. Is it because of the new year? Sometimes software updates and things change.

Our temp in SoCal will be in the 80s this afternoon, then back chilly at night, in the mid 50s.

    Hello Front Porch Friends.

Carl. It's nice that you have a place to socialize in, hopefully Ron, will get feeling better and become a regular as well. Im sure if I did not have my kids and our pets at home with me, i would be sad and board.

HB. I like all of the Starbucks, only thing special about the one I go to is it is the closes one to home, with a drive through.

Iris. I also like Carmel lattes at McDonalds. My DD and I go often to get breakfast. I like the breakfast burritos.

GG. IT was so dark when I got up this morning at 6am I had to make sure my watch was right. Seems like it was almost a hour before I saw any sun. I would love to enjoy a sunrise like Beth, had.

JeriLynn. Its nice hearing from you, your alway so busy. I wish I had a large family as close as yours. What a fun trip you will have to look forward to.

Lorita. I hope your dizziness has gone away. Please be careful, are you wareing you alarm penant inside your house? I hope so. When it goes off will is alert Darwin? I will be happy when I can sit outside in the sun and get some vitamin D.

My messages are not being deleted, but when I correct a misspelled word, it corrects it twice and give me two words ??

I hope your all having a good day. Hugs Zetta

Our sunset was pretty in the east.north and south but not so much in the west. The sky was light blue and the clouds were pink. Decided to feed the birds tonight because it will be cold and windy tomorrow and fire danger. It was 75 here today, just beautiful.

Zetta, my post isn't deleted, just kicks me off website but post is still intact. My tablet's favorite word is "awesome" and it uses it a lot.

I have never been to a Starbucks but I think I got something from the little one at the VA.

Zetta, I haven't been wearing it in the house, probably should. If it goes off they try to contact me through it, then through my phone and if no answer they call him. They called him once when something got against it and made it go off. He wasn't home so he called Mike and he called me.

Mint, did you make your cake? I didn't -took everything off the countertops and cleaned two of them and the kitchen mirrors. Will clean the other one and the bakers rack tomorrow.

You all sleep well tonight. Good night.

    Good morning.

Beth, I envy your sleep schedule. I'm up early this morning, but yesterday I awoke at 11 am because I fell asleep at 3 am. I have so much difficulty keeping a consistent schedule. Was it easy for you or did it take some time to get on your sleep schedule?

Morning, Everything is about to blow away - it is so windy and cold this morning. The only saving grace is the sunshine.

Iris, it will take a while to get into a regular sleep schedule going to bed and getting up at the same time. When I was working, I hardly needed an alarm clock. Even now I wake up about 7 every morning.

It is now cloudy. Scary out in the country when it is this windy. Just one spark--

    Good afternoon

Lorita you can put it on a plate and wrap in saran wrap. I baked mine in 13x9 @ 350 for 45 minutes. Turned it upside down to cool with corners of pan on pint jars .
Another dark cloudy day in central ohio. We are also headed into deep freezer

Mint, how full was the 13x9 pan before it baked and did it run over when baking ? I tried it in loaf pans and they ran over. I have an angel food cake pan so guess I could.cut some off the bottom so It would fit in my cake.cover.

I sniffled all night and now it looks like I have come down with a cold, because I'm coughing and I feel sick. I had to cancel my Optometry appointment for tomorrow. I'm going to try to lay low. I wonder if I have some Mucinex in the house for coughing.

PS: the aurora correct is becoming so annoying, inserting words that don't make sense! See what I mean? This is supposed to read "auto" correct.

Iris. Please take care of yourself and stay warm. The flu is bad right now, the news keeps telling us, this flu season is bad. Im still recovering from it, I came down with it on Thanksgiving. My doctor told me the next time I get a fever of 102 go straight to ER. That fever is way too high for a person my age. 80. Im sure you already know that, just a reminder. Hugs Zetta

Iris, I worked as an RN and had to go to work either at 6:30 or 7:00 a.m. My body adjusted to that schedule, and I'm tired by 8:45 so start getting ready then. We usually watch the morning news in bed from 6 - 6:30 and then get up.

Zetta, Iris, I've been under the weather too. Lots of coughing and blowing my nose. I went through more than an entire box of kleenex, 125 in a box, in a week. No fever. I am feeling better but cough continues. As of a couple of days ago, my hubby came down with it too.

All of you all take care and feel better. I keep zinc.lozenges-Zicam. Sure leaves a bad taste. I wear my mask when I'm around anyone and wipe down my delivered groceries before bringing them inside.Same with my mail. May be overkill but I do it.

Our weather today is strange. It is cloudy, then sunny, 30 minutes later cloudy, then sunny. Very windy and cold.

Iris, what is aurora correct? I spend as much time correcting as I do writing a post. I get BB and awesome a lot. Aggravating.

Internet (Verizon) was down for 3 hours. Glad it is fixed!!!!

Time to Google about preimergent (sp) for my lawns. Any suggestions???
