Sorry, just forgot, crept up on me. Not doing a very good job of concentrating. Couldn't find my bread knife anywhere so thought I would have to go through the trash. Thought I would give Stormy a milk.bone and it was in the box. I use it to open those big boxes. Thanks for reminding me.

Happy March! And only one week until we spring forward and we get more light! Since moving full time to the PNW, I find that I'm very sensitive to how much the light increases or decreases over time. I'm also aware of the slant of the light - in California it's all pretty much the same throughout the year, here, not so much.

Lorita - I knew it. 🙂 I'm rooting for you and the new puppy, whenever she arrives.

We've got sun today, which is really nice. It's a little chilly, but nothing a sweater can't cure.

Today's going to be a day of correspondence - it's been a little more than a week since I've chatted with D & M of Team Peggy, so I'm going to check-in and see how they're doing.

We'll be staying with M for a couple of days when we go down to the Bay Area, and I know exactly what I'm going to bring him: a pound box of See's Candies. If they have a cute Easter tin of something wonderful, I'll get that instead. He likes getting chocolate. Who doesn't? 🙂

GG, the variance in daylight is why Christmas and the other winter solstice celebrations originated in the North. The seasons don't mean much in the tropics, but they are major in the North. Even here in Missouri, teachers who don't care if their little charges can read or not teach the seasons by making them cut out autumn leaves and snowflakes and tulips from craft paper and pinning the results to the bulletin board.

I am really enjoying the single serving meals I am having delivered from Factor. I just finished eating spaghetti, meatballs, and broccoli. 500+ calories and really tasty. All I had to do was microwave it, and there are no leftovers.

Got some bad news about a friend. The doctors X-rayed him to check his COPD and found a spot on his lung that might be spread from his prostate cancer. It is in a corner they can't reach to biopsy, so he's getting chemotherapy and a recheck in June. His doctor didn't do PSA tests (a simple blood test), so his cancer was pretty advanced before it was diagnosed. That happens a lot. Some people say men get better medical treatment than women, but we often don't.

Thanks,GG maybe not the best choice but worth a try..

Stormy needed a ride so we drove around a little while down the road south of us. We used to pick berries and wild onions there. We have a beautiful crab apple tree in full bloom in the garden and Bradford tres are beginning to bloom everyWhere. The daffodils are.huge, at least 3" across and all over the yard -:don't know how they are spreading.

Hope everyone is feeling better today..

Is that next weekend? I measured the daffodils and most of them are at least 4" across.

    Good night

Good night, Lorita. I just read that woman cannot live by wine alone, she needs a dog 🐶 as well.

    Welcome to March.

My cat Adam didn't eat all day. He slept in my second bedroom. Finally he came out and he ate some of the rotisserie chicken breast that I had for dinner and also some baby food chicken. I'll see how he does tomorrow.

    Good night.

    Is Adam pretty old, Iris?

Lorita, I think everyone who has a dog should have two, so they aren't lonely when we're away.

Good morning. March roared in yesterday with some unseasonably cold weather. It is forecasted to be in the 70s towards the weekend but with rain. FTR, rain is not happy knee weather. I'm looking forward to spring with warmer days and lower utility bills.

Busy week ahead. I have PT M-W-F, mom sees the cardiologist's PA on Tuesday afternoon, DH sees the cardiologist on Wednesday morning, and I see the surgeon's PA that afternoon after PT at a different location. I was supposed to have follow up u/s for a spot on my kidney this week, but there's no way I can assume and hold the positions the sonographer will need right now.

Lorita— Have you settled on the puppy? When will she be ready to leave her mom? Will you get to name her?

Ron— I hope you get a quiet nap today.

Iris— I hope Adam is doing better. LOL, my cats always love the strained baby food chicken and turkey.

Carl— That's a shame for your friend. After dad's prostate cancer was treated, his PCPs always ordered both PSA and testosterone levels. There wasn't great follow up; continuity of care wasn't great with their snowbird lifestyle between 2 less-than-ideally-served medical communities.

GG— Chocolate is always the answer.

    Have a nice day-
    HB

Ron, I'm about 10 miles northeast of the apartment fire. I live a mile or so north of Springfield. It looked pretty bad on the news, with 30 apartments damaged and three people hospitalized. Those buildings are only a few years old.

Chocolate is the answer to many things. I have noticed that Dove chocolates taste a lot better than their soaps. 😉

I'm going to the sr ctr in a little while. This is chair chi day, plus the lunch is chicken cordon bleu with veggies and potatoes, which I like.

Good morning all my porch friends.

JFKOC is Quince the same as Flowering Quince? I'm assuming so, but you never know.

HB that's a busy week for you and baby knee. You'll need to elevate and ret throughout. (But you know that.)

Carl I'm sorry about your friend. DH's PSA is checked yearly, always has been. I thought that's how it was - women get mammograms and men have their PSA checked. Apparently I was wrong in my thinking.

GG I'll send some of our beautiful sunshine your way. We'll be having some rain later in the week, maybe.

Lorita I love how your keeping busy. That's great and healthy. The bonus is the nice weather to be out in.

I'm going to try to level some dirt / mulch along the fence line this morning before its too hot outside.

    Let's be safe everyone.

Eagle, that is one cute dog!

I get PSAs every year, and my doctor compares each year with the year before. That's why my cancer was detected early enough for successful treatment. I still get annual PSAs to be sure it hasn't returned. I lost another friend several years ago due to the same neglect - a doctor who didn't bother with PSAs.

Morning, I just missed getting one of the puppies. A rescue group came and got all of them Saturday..Just waited too long. She had been talking to this group but haf.no idea I would be this soon. Kate will find one for me as soon as she can. She is going to contact the brother of the man where I got Stormy. She said there are Lots of Pyrenees females out without homes. Judith, I just can't resist another Pyrenees if she can find one.

My Japonica or flowering quince began to bud just before.our snow. I Brought in a couple.of branches that did bloom and were beautiful. I saw a few buds on it a few days ago. Cloudy and cool here this morning…We had the fourth warmest February on record.

Carl, sorry to hear the bad news about your friend.

. Iris, I hope Adam is better today. I have a senior cat, Max ,who stays in the bathroom and bedroom away from Sammy.

Eagle Madison is so cute. Reminds me of Barclee except he was cream and white.

Iris you have had cats a long time so I have s question. I have one senior male cat, hi w son and his mother.. The son. Sammy can be so sweet.but some times is.very aggressive toward Max and Stormy. If I had him neutered would that help? I don't think our shelter takes cats and I don't Want to put.him outside.

    About PSA’s!

Even though my PSA is checked every six months and being back on hormone shots every six months, low PSA does not take away my shots. After being back on the shot my PSA dropped back to 0.01 but with a Gleason score of 9 and the cancer becoming active again last year, urologist said with a aggressive cancer even with a low PSA, I need to stay on hormone shots every six months since I’ve already had a recurrence.

Dick went for a prostate check after seeing info on a billboard. He had cancer. We went to St Loius to have Dr Catalona operate. Two more days in the hospital and he was off of painkillers and we were. on a plane home. I think he had follow up radiation but I do not rememberl hormone shots.

Appointment with the Retina specialist. Very interesting what they can see. Anyway it is dry macular degeneration and I will be getting shots every 2 months. It was a long appointment. My daughter took me and she got pretty antsy. There we 10 people waiting for different things (3 DR) in a small room. I was the only person not on a cell phone!

Anyway, I am back home and can type.

Japonica refers to plants native to Japan.  Chaenomeles japonica (flowering quince) is what I have. Yes, I had to Google it….

I will say no more about puppies…..

Our local news this morning said gas went up fifty cents overnight in Tulsa. When we went through town a couple of days ago diesel was already $3.40. Glad I'm not commuting now.

    Good morning.

I don't know why PSA isn't checked routinely, it's so easy to do. Years ago monthly breast self exams were no longer promoted, but I still do them. I believe in our current times we older patients have to be more proactive about our health concerns. We cannot rely solely on the professionals.

Lorita, Adam is 17 1/2 years old. When he was young I found him outside my condo and thought he was a stray, but he belonged to my neighbor who had had a stroke. Her family used to let him out because he had begun to spray in the home. After she had to move to more supportive housing, she asked me if I would keep him, which of course I did. Immediately I took him in for neutering, and afterwards he never sprayed inside my home. I don't know why people resist neutering for house pets, it is better for pet and for guardian.

In response to your question about your Sammy, I believe neutering might help in the aggression. Nevertheless, my cat Simon was neutered early and he still had some aggressive male tendencies. I believe neutering does diminish the aggression. My Sammie, who was feral, harasses Adam, but I can distract him. The problem that I have with my Sammie is that he will bite at my hand when I pet him.

I also think that what we sometimes call aggression is a cat's natural tendency to chase and to pounce. I don't remember if you let your Sammy outside to chase the mice.

Adam came to the kitchen and ate this morning. Perhaps he needed more rest. I have those days at times.

    Iris
