Beth, I think the meals I am receiving are gluten free. The carbs come from corn, rice, and potatoes and the meats aren't breaded or floured. There is no wheat, barley, or rye. You could order a box of eight meals (the minimum order), call them home-cooked (in a microwave) and see how you and he like them.
Factor has options like high protein, low carb, vegetarian, Keto, etc. Plus you can order things like filet mignon for Sunday, at extra charge of course.
I'm not saying Factor is better than your cooking. However, it is tastier, healthier, and more convenient than the meals I typically prepare for myself or buy in local restaurants.

Lorita…. straight lines had a bump and I had some blind spots that looked like black holes .https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/geographic-atrophy/symptoms-causes/syc-20582973
Face feeling odd and/or headache could be possible stroke.

Thank you for the comments about Madison. We are all pretty smitten with one another!! She loves having her hair combed and doesn't mind a bath at all. Such a girl. She's still too young to work on her Canine Good Citizen award - she'd not pass. That's one goal I have with her. Now if I can keep her from being silly so she can pass a test is a whole different story!
Windy, warm, sunny day here today. Apparently tomorrow night we're in for some bad weather - the h word, hail. Lorita, jfkoc and us look to be in a direct line. I don't know about Carl and Ron.
I need to get busy, but also needed a break. My breaktime is up!!! Let's be safe everyone.

Went to see my doctor about my headaches. First thing he asked was if I was stressed. . YES!! Have been quite awhile. He immediately pressed on a spot behind my ear and I almost came out of my chair. It was a cranial nerve. He gave me a muscle relaxant to take at night.it's- Zanaflex. Hope it helps.
Was going to top off my gas tank but Casey's was so busy I gave up. Premium was 3.40, diesel 3.60+ and the other kind was over 2.50.
I left Stormy in the house with Max, separated from Sammy. He was so happy when I got home. Iris, Sammy and Stormy haven't been separated except today. He even strikes out and hisses at me. I hope neutering will.help. Going to try to relax. Back later.

Eagle, pretty girls have a hard time passing tests of good behavior. I don't know why. Maybe because they're used to getting away with murder.
We expect strong storms and hail here in SW MO Wednesday and Friday, with an inch of rain tomorrow. Spring is here.
The price of gasoline is up here, as is the price of pretty much everything else. I bought some chicken soup to replace what I ate when I had a bad cold, and it cost a dollar a can more than last fall.
Fuel was rationed during the last world war, and new vehicles were unobtainable. If I'm going to trade my thirsty, smoky old car for a new fuel sipper, I probably should do it now.

Iris - I've grown up with "June Gloom", although I can't say I remember it in southern California (we moved right after 8th grade for me). Santa Cruz and San Francisco are notorious for it though. I wonder what it is about June in CA?
Beth - Today (Tuesday) is a day off for me in that I go to the gym but work out on my own. Today I did two miles on the treadmill and called it a workout. I go in 5 days a week - I started that in December. I'll work out with my trainer tomorrow and Thursday, and then Friday on my own.
Yay!! I'm glad you got to box! I think videos are a great way to learn some basic stuff. I cruised around a little on youtube to see what's out there on boxing and I found this - it's pretty good. It's pretty much how my trainer taught me. Footwork is key.
I haven't used anything like that, except Gatorade back in the day (such vile stuff), but I think my trainer uses Nectar. I'll ask him tomorrow about it.
About the sugar eggs - are they edible?
Carl - I could imagine using Factor. There was a meal delivery service I liked in San Francisco, but they closed. I don't remember what the issue was.
eaglemom - I remember Ron posting a photo of some hail he had collected in Louisiana. I'd never seen hail that big! Yikes!
Lorita - I hope the Zanaflex helps your headaches.
Today was a fairly quiet day. It rained most of the day, thankfully I had gone to the gym before all of that started.

Good night, GG, you and Beth.are energizer bunnies. Makes me tired to see what you all do. I. used to be able to buck a bale of hay-:75-80: lbs. Not any more though. I think I would like chair tai chi though!.

Lorita, I hope your headache resolves quickly!
GG, I was told that the June gloom is caused by a "marine layer" which is thick mist from the ocean that consolidates over land overnight. Once the sun comes up the mist evaporates and the sky is clear. The marine layer is not the same as clouds, but it does block out the sun for a few hours, making everything look gray and dreary.
Lorita, I had success today. I got Sammie to the vet and he got his vaccinations. The vet prescribed gsbapentin to relax him so hopefully I won't have so much trouble with him when I have to take him to the pet hotel.
Sammie was a perfect gentleman at the vet's. He didn't snarl at me or try to bite my hand once. I don't know why he tries to bite me at home.
I'm going to turn in now. Good night.

Good morning
I had forgotten to mention one part of Friday’s crawfish dinner that made me smile. My Granddaughter’s shirt!

Good morning all.
Eaglemom— That's quite the glow-up you gave Miss Madison. I have a friend who is a dog trainer and does the Canine Good Citizen classes and tests. I never realized there was an age limit although I do recall her doing some special puppy training with her current pup.
Carl— I think the PSA testing is a tad controversial in some situations especially as it relates to age. I know my BIL (a dually board-certified doc) started to skip them beyond a certain age. But that wouldn't apply to someone with a history of the disease. I dad's case, they ordered the blood tests but didn't follow up.
Lorita— An intact male cat who doesn't have access to breeding opportunities is going to be aggressive. Is there some reason you elected not to do this when he was younger? Seems Mike should have recommended it. Neutering him now may reduce or eliminate his aggression. Or it may not. It's hard to say.
I'm curious about you being told that there were "lots of female Pyrenees available". Why is that? Is it a challenging to train breed for novices or is there some backyard breeder producing a glut of unmannered animals in the area? It's not a breed I see around where I live very often.
Ron— Gleason score drives the bus. When dad's cancer "recurred" (I'm not 100% certain his was successfully treated TBH), he started on Lupron shots which he tolerated pretty well. When he was treated with radiation initially, he was also prescribed estrogen for a time but hated the side effects.
I love the tee shirt.
Gothic G— I suspect the folks who embrace seasonal changes are people who like change/novelty in general. One of mom's favorite things about moving north (who am I kidding, the only positive) was being able to have fall and winter clothing in rotation. She used to spend summers in MD and winters in FL so she didn't really own winter clothes. I find I cook differently depending on the season with soups, stews and roasts being cold weather meals.
Beth— I am questioning how those panoramic eggs on Etsy would be shipped without disintegrating. I have a friend who used to make them for her DD when she was younger.
My SIL used to buy "perennial tulips" from White Flower Farm years ago. They weren't super fancy, but they did bloom reliably for 5+ years. I just have daffodils because of my deer problems. I had some rangy azaleas removed and should add some more bulbs this fall.
I tried some Dubai chocolate with a friend. We were disappointed. Her Afghan refugee family love the stuff, were excited to find some here and gifted her some.
Judith— I am sorry to hear about your recent AMD/GA diagnosis. It's an especially cruel twist when it happens to someone of an artistic bend like you or my mom. Mom is likely more progressed than you are; she sometimes described what she sees as looking like Picasso's Cubist era. Facial features seem to be especially distorted for her some days (one day I came to pick her up for an appointment and she blurted out "what the hell happened to your face?"— she thought my whole cheek was gone) and color is fading now, too. That said, the shots have been amazing for her. Her vision tests are actually better than they were 1 and 2 years ago which isn't supposed to happen.
Retina specialist offices are weird. They can have an almost factory-like vibe to them. Mom's first doc's office was so ghastly, I insisted on dragging her into the city to the eye hospital instead. OMG, they were coming into the waiting room to dispense the drops to dilate people's eyes randomly and regardless of appointment time, we'd be there for 3 to 5 hours. The new doctor is much better, but it's still packed and kind of crazy. Because of the impact on vision, anyone getting shots needs a driver and many folks are coming from CCRCs and SNFs so they're hanging until the van comes back for them. If it's an appointment with imaging ordered, we're going to be stuck for at least 2 1/2 hours.
Crazy day. DH sees his cardiologist at 8am, I have PT at 12:30 and a follow up with the PA at 3:30pm. I think DH and I will grab lunch at the fun diner. I hope the PA will write me some more pain meds/Zofran as I can't get to sleep without. I had to stop the NSAID as it was chewing up my stomach and Tylenol isn't cutting it overnight.Mom saw the cardiologist NP. She's discontinued the Lasix and we talked about the oxygen. Mom thinks she's fine without and accuses me of saying she's impaired without it. She was 82 attempting to put socks on without O2. Mom was acting pretty tangential and goofy during the appointment and got a lecture about how she needs to use the O2 24/7 until pulmo says she doesn't have to. Yay! We'll see how long this lasts. She's got an order for a chest X-ray, Dexa, bloodwork and an echo between now and the first week in May. Ugh.

You're a lucky man, Ron.
Iris, I don't know why you keep an animal that tries to bite you. I'm just don't like cats that well.
Lorita, I'm getting stronger as the years pass. I can lift $100 worth of groceries, and I couldn't have done that in 1975 😉
I hear thunder. The rain's coming back. We have only "slight" chance of severe weather, so I'm glad for the rain.

HB, I can see skipping PSA testing for old men who aren't likely to live long enough to die of prostate cancer even if they get it. But I had it in my 50s and so did one of my brothers. The friends I spoke of were/are men in their early 60s who probably had undetected cancer in their 50s.
I think my cancer, detected early, was fully resolved with radiation because I have had "undetectable" PSAs for 25 years. My doctor still orders the test every year but I don't worry about it anymore.

HB, Dubai chocolate varies a lot. Some is very good, some not at all good and it is very expensive. With some the filling is crunchy and with some it is creamy. I prefer the creamy but the crunchy seems to be more common. Regarding the sugar panoramic Easter eggs, I think they are just made to look at, not to eat. And shipping - seems like getting it to its destination unbroken would be hit or miss. I'm not buying one; my grandkids truly would not appreciate these at all. They like chocolate.

Good one, Carl, about the $100 worth of groceries! ha ha
We have rain and storms coming on Friday. We can use the rain.

Thank you for the boxing video. I plan to watch it today. Speaking of boxing, my son was a golden gloves champion. That was a big accomplishment. He is now in his 40s, and busy with work and the 4 kids at home. He exercises including boxing at home, but no matches any more.
I also try to exercise 5 days a week but the heavier types of workout I only do 3x/wk - letting my muscles rebuild over the rest days. I can do cardio (like walks, raking and shoveling snow!!) other days.

HB makes a good point…Many suggest never getting a dog until you have been around its' parents. Lots of available puppies warrants a second thought. Have you asked Mike if he know someone who needs to re-home their dog?
Great Tee shirt..adorable granddaughter.
Just and FYI… I am delighted with company (family owned) that I bought my lawn products from. While it against rule to name the company here you can message me if interested.
Also getting rid of cassette tapes and CDs. If anyone is interested let lme know what. you are looking for.

I guess I left the wrong idea- it's. Not that Lots of Pyrenees are running loose but that there are Pyrenees around. They did pick up a female along a high way north of here. They do tend to wander if not confined. Mike did tell me about a ten month old male the people couldn't keep because he didn't get along with their other dog and cats. I didn't believe he would work our here. If it had.been a female, maybe so.
Slept well but have a headache today. Stress doesn't go away very soon. Woke up.to some rain, about an inch so far.
Awfully cute granddaughter, Ron. Glad you are among family.

So after reading about lobsters, I decided to look up Prys and found this along with the fact that they are guard dogs, not herders, who need a lot of exercise
- Like most livestock guardian and dominant breeds, Great Pyrenees usually don’t get along with dogs of the same sex as adults. It’s the rule rather than the exception, and we have seen many returns as a result. It may not happen immediately, but when the issue occurs, there’s no “pause button” when two pyrs of the same sex are fighting. If it happens, be prepared by reading “Breaking Up A Dog Fight Between Pyrs“.

Hello Front Porch Friends.
Lorita. Iam glad to hear that Zanaflex, did help a bit. Like you said your dealing with a stress thats not just going away. You just need help for your headache so you can get enough sleep, to help with the stress. Sounds like Stormy wants to be with you as much as possible. I think you both need to be together as much as possible. Does he sleep in your bedroom?
HB. Iam sorry your still having pain with the baby knee. You may be doing way too much and not getting the rest you need. Does elevating your leg still help? Hopefully your doctor will give you some stronger pain meds and you will continue to rest.
Iris. My Sammy, also bites my hand while I'm petting him. His are love bites. As I'm petting his back he will turn his head and bit my hand but he never bites down as I continue to pet his back.
Ron. Your grandaughter is cute and I love her T shirt. She loves her grandpa.
Eagle. Madison is precious and I love they way you dress her. She should have the Canine Good Citizen Award, just for looking pretty.
Judith. Thanks for the video, I may have to give it a try. It looks kinda fun .
My daughter got me one of them watches that keeps track of your heartbeat and your stress and sleep times. I always thought I slept well, but the watch says I sleep poor. If any of you have one of those watches does it show poor sleep. I get between 40 and 50 and it says thats poor. Last night I got 75. I hope it happens again tonight.
I have not felt really good the last 2 days. My DD had some Atkins chocolates and I had a few, maybe a little more then a few. So I have had to stay pretty close to the bathroom the last few days. My stomach growled so loud one time my Molly barked at it. 😁😁😁
Take care all of you ❤️ Hugs Zetta

Exactly why I didn't take the ten month old male.
Prince was ten months old when we lost him and he was as.big as Stormy is, 102 lbs. I would never be able to separate them. Mike said they might not get along at first but might later. Stormy is laid back but can be territorial as far as the yard goes. I think I may get a small dog until I can find a puppy. Stormy needs a companion. He and Barclee got along just fine. Thanks, Judith.
Darwin just called to see if I was okay before he took a nap. What a good friend and neighbor he is. Will be 87 next month.

Carl, I have been pondering your question all day, about why I keep a cat who bites me. Here's the story. When I first had to take leave of absence due to systemic lupus, I thought in due time I would return yo my career as a pediatrician. But as the years went by, I had to accept that I would not be able to be a pediatrician again. I lost my whole identity. Then I found a new identity. I becsme an animal rescuer. I rescued stray animals that nobody wanted, animals that were challenges. Sammie was a feral cat that I trapped snd neutered and returned to his stomping grounds. But he decided he wanted to come live with me. So I took him in. He still has his feral ways, he is still suspicious. I never have company so he is never around other people.
Warren Eckstein of The Pet Show radio show said that cats will on occasion bite or nip when being stroked, because they get overstimulated. Zetta says her Sammy does the same thing. (Or is the biting just from cats named Sammie/Sammy? I'm kidding!)
I have to sneak up on Sammie in order to pick him up to take him to the vet or to the pet hotel. It's an ordeal. I had to cancel two vet appointments the other week because he hid from me for two days and wouldnt come out from hiding. Today I had to cancel Adam's vet appointment. This was the first time in a long time that he hid from me. I tried to drag him out from where he was but he dug in his claws and snarled, so I let him go. Why do I put up with this? I ask myself the same question.
A family friend reached 99 years this week. She still lives on her own with a helper a few hours a week. We spoke on the telephone and her voice was strong, she's doing well!
I'm about to turn in. Good night.
Iris

Iris - Right - the marine layer, of course. That same marine layer that I'd hear the weather people talk about every single day on the news. Man! I leave California and my brain goes to mush. 😄
I'm sure you're right about the feral still in Sammie, but I bet it's also true that he gets over stimulated. I've often heard that. I only had one cat that would bite me when over stimulated, but it was never a hard bite, and never drew blood. When she'd do that I'd just stop petting her.
Ron - what a wonderful granddaughter you have - you living legend you!
HB - I never understood the concept of "winter clothes." Even in San Francisco, which can get that damp cold, all I had to do was put on a pair of fuzzy socks and a heavy sweater and I was good. I have a lot more stuff in Washington state …
So many doctor appointments. I don't know how you manage all of the logistics. It's a lot. One thing you have in your favor though - your DH and your mom will actually go to the doctor. I had to fight with both of my parents to get them to go. It was like pulling teeth to get them out the door.
Beth - I looked up Dubai chocolate - it's a nope for me. I'm not a pistachios fan.
I told my trainer about you and your son. Now I understand about the golden gloves. That's a huge accomplishment! He must have been so happy.
My trainer is cheer leading you from afar regarding boxing (and the gym in general). He told me that if you ever find your way to our neck of the woods, he'll give you a free session - and I know he means that.
Judith - it's against the rules here to name companies? I didn't know that.
You know, I've never bought a pre-recorded cassette or 8-track. But - I have eight zillion CDs. It's long past time for them to go and one of these days I'll sort through them all and then give away most of what I have.
Zetta - I hope your stomach starts calming down and you start feeling better.
Gym was pretty fun today. We did about 50 minutes of stick fighting. I'd say a good 20 min of it was him showing me new ways to disarm opponents. The time went by so fast!
My big accomplishment today was getting to See's Candies and picking up Easter chocolate for my 94 year old aunt (she's got her favorites and I wanted to make sure I got them before they sold out). I also picked up a pretty Easter tin filled with chocolate for Peggy's friend M. That man will get chocolate from me for life! 😄
How are you feeling tonight, Lorita?
1 -
Iris, that makes sense. Everyone needs a reason to get up in the morning. Some of my friends volunteer at the senior center, I look after DS, you rescue animals.
I'm up at midnight because the thunder and rain woke me. It's calming and quieter and I think I'll go back to bed. Sleep tight.
0 -
Lorita, Darwin is such a blessing to you - and you to him and Donna as well.
Carl, I hope you don't get severe storms. I'm sure you recall the Joplin tornado - there is a documentary about it on Netflix and I've watched it. 158 people were killed. Tragic. I've never been to Joplin but there is a Bible college there (Ozark) that is affiliated with my church so lots of people in my area have connections there or attended there themselves.
GG, that is so generous of your trainer! He sounds like a kind person!
Time to get moving, first my library fitness class, then to the gym where I have assigned machines and non machine exercises to do. Then hubby will grill for lunch, and then we go get groceries, and then our granddaughter has a solo band concert. If I understand correctly, she'll be playing the marimba. She does all percussion.
Storms here tomorrow. Be safe everyone!
1 -
Morning, dark and kind of rainy. Had rain duting.night. Flood earnings in a county south of us. Severe weather here tomorrow, too, Beth.
GG I have a slight headache this morning so think I will just stay in bed and watch tv a while. Fed the.cats, got my juice and let Stormy out and in and and gave him a milk.bon. No reason on get up.
I have a doctors appointment Tuesday for labwork so will Talk to Mike about Sammy And if he thinks neutering him nail help will take him.by that morning. I can't put up with his aggression toward Stormy and sometimes me. He has never.been outside do can't do that. Most of the time he is really loving and sweet..
Brought in daffodils fot three bouquets. They are.beautiful this year. One bunch is. totally white. They are next to the fence so I think I will divide and move them so they can be seen. When should I do that, Beth?
You all.be careful if you have storms.

Good morning,
Just foggy this morning, but that’s better than an all day rain, it’s flooded around here. Son said it looked like it was a lot worse here than Springfield. I need to go into Buffalo this morning for a few groceries and getting off the top of this mountain with washed out gravel roads was a little tricky with the pot holes and parts of the road washed out. At least I’m home and can eat a breakfast and be lazy.

Morning.
We had several rounds of rain yesterday and apparently more coming tomorrow. The humidity is very high.
We attended the funeral of a friend yesterday. We met them at the first ALZ support group we ever attended. It was the fall of 2012, and we've been in support groups together ever since. They are our age (68) and married the same amount of years (48) and only lived about a mile from us - so fast friends. Their journey was much bumpier than ours has been thus far. Bill had aphasia & that so frustrated him. It was always so sweet to see my DH help Bill find the words he couldn't. Finally Bill had very few words, none, but always he tried. I'm going to brag - we arrived at the church people are chatting in the lobby & Bill's wife sees us & comes over. I give her a hug & we very briefly chat. Then she see's DH, she opens her arms wide and says "there's our Don, our sweet sweet friend. Bill loved you so." She gave him a hug and thankfully he understood she needed a huge huge back. And I lost it & turned away, what DH said to her I don't know but he said something very reassuring I could tell then he held her hand and walked her into the church to her seat. Yes, he is a sweet sweet man with a tender heart.
I tried to give DH the attention he was needing when we got home. He wanted to play the game of Sorry, of all things. So we played. I think it was just the togetherness he wanted, and me too.
Time to fix lunch. I'll be back later to check on everyone. Let's be safe everyone.
