Our weather has been wacky too. Friday I woke up to —- snow. Not just a tiny amount, but about 4 inches! I was kind of worried I wouldn't be able to get out (they don't always plow our street), but I was able to navigate it.
Here's the backyard: Ugh
Not happy. It snowed all day, but thankfully only light snowing, nothing horrible after that first heavy snow.
And we were able to do our drive to San Francisco without a lot of fuss and muss. And SF is 75 degrees today!!! I barely even know what to do with all of this warmth. 😄 It's so nice.
The Bay Bridge - one of my favorite views driving into SF (SF itself is off to the right):
The drive was nice too - lots of springy flowers and trees - all very pretty.
Iris - I've really been enjoying your photos! Excellent photo of the whale! What an experience
Ron - Be careful with pneumonia, essentially everything that everyone has said. I'm also sorry that your Missouri experience isn't what you'd like it to be (yet). Give it some time.
JeriLynn - You're so busy! And you're going to have a busy summer too. 🙂
Lorita - I'm glad you have your medical alert necklace. It's important.

GG, enemies looks pretty. Used to like snow and getting out in it but no more. Glad SF wss warm for you. I picked the last of the fresh daffodils and some narcissis. Really been so pretty I had to see them go. The japonica is blooming but guess the 9:degrees and wind will get it!
Carl, if you can wear your alert I will, too. Every once in a while mine blinks blue so people probably wonder what that is.
Went out to fill the water tank and my metal hose was stiff but not frozen. Girls will probably stay in the barn tonight so wanted them to have water without going to the pond.
Good night, everyone. Sandy, hope you are well.

Tornado watch in effect here. Stormy night.
Wonderful family evening of food, fellowship and family ❤️
Good night and peaceful rest to everyone 🙏

This wind is crazy………steady winds at 35mph + with 55mph gusts. The temps dropped 45 degrees. Its made DH be very restless and uneasy, thus the reason I've not been on today. The weather person said it will continue all night and most of tomorrow, oh goodie!
Tucking everyone in, except GG the night owl! Be safe everyone and if we don't blow away I'll check in tomorrow!

Sorry, I haven't had time to read or to post. We get up early and are on the go all day. We are so remote that there was very limited internet service, only within the hotel premises. We saw more whales and had other adventures. We are now in Ensenada. I'll post more when I have more time.

Good morning,
Lorita, yes we had snow last night, I haven’t looked outside, but as cold as it is I’m sure it stuck. Speaking of coyotes, son and DIL were out when it was snowing trying to get all the chickens in where the coyotes don't have a feast. At first I didn’t believe it was possible to sleep, but you get use to the howling.
Judith, I will never get another glue trap if I ever have another pet. I believe I posted this before, but a couple of years before losing Lou, my Shitz Shu was losing his eyesight and ended up stuck on one. I blamed myself for ever using one and had to take him to the vet to shave him and dr his feet. I can still hear him crying. I agree this living arraignment is not the best for me, but I want to wait until after my surgery to decide what I need.
Thanks everyone for your prayers. As we all know until our time comes to join loved ones we have already lost, there will be times like this we have to bear.
Pray everyone is staying safe!
Ron

Good morning. It's damp and gloomy at the moment on my end of the porch. Winds and rain to pick up in a few hours. Yuck. The ground is saturated, so I am expecting downed trees with road closures and power outages.
Iris— Thanks for sharing the pictures of your trip. They are fabulous. I've never whale-watched despite summering in an area known for that as a kid. DH and DS went out on a day boat from OCMD and saw whales which was not expected. They both said the whales smelled bad.
Beth— It sounds like your visit in TX was lovely. I hope you have/had a safe trip home.
Lorita— I'm sure I'm not alone in being happy you are being more mindful around the use of your medical alert pendant. It's pointless on your nightstand.
Judith— Rat or mouse?
Jerilynn— I hope your family celebration went nicely. You must be proud.
Do the goat-mamas generally produce singletons? Or could your estimate of 6 be impacted by twins?
Carl— Is the pendant waterproof? Falling in the shower is common enough that I know several people who had a LO do it.
Mom used to fight me on her pendant saying she'd wear it if she went for a walk. Duh, there are so many folks walking dogs, driving by and peering out their windows in her neighborhood that she'd have a whole team of people assembled by the time she hit the ground. She's better with the watch.
Gothic G— The snow is pretty in your backyard but I get that 70F and sunshine is preferable by mid-March. I hope you have a nice break.
Eaglemom— I hope you're safe this morning. I suspect your current conditions will be here in about 6 hours.
Ron— I hope the meds are working well for you. IME with mom, the "presenting concern" at the ED triage is rarely the diagnosis at discharge. This complicates things because I have several options for hospitals— one where her ID and pulmo's practices have privileges and 2 that are part of the health system where most of her other docs are.
I am kind of surprised you weren't admitted as mom almost always is so they can do several days of IV steroids and abx along with industrial strength nebulizer treatments. It sounds as if perhaps you got on top of this early before that became necessary._________________________________________________________________________
Things are mostly the same here. Baby knee is still being a jerk at night. I am still taking a single pain pill to get through the overnights. There's no driving until I am off meds.
PT is coming along; this week I am cut back to 2x/weekly sessions. I am fairly close to reaching my goals and may be cut loose soon.
Mom is on my list this weekend. She proudly shared with me the other day that she went out for a walk without her POC. (portable oxygen concentrator) Last week when she was off the POC "to put shoes on" (this got quite the eye roll from her pulmo, btw), her O2 dipped to 78— she's not to a point where she can be OK off O2 routinely except if she's calm and seated. I do check this every time I see her so we can report to her pulmo and cardio next month. I am sick to the teeth of playing oxygen police with her— the medical professionals (cardio, pulmo, ID, PCP and 2 PAs) and I have gone over how oxygen can't be "banked" for use later.
I hope all have a safe and pleasant day.

Ron, I'm sorry living in MO isn't meeting your expectations. Give it time. I would guess that your health issues figure in to your sadness/disappointment and hopefully you will soon feel better physically and mentally.
GG, I know you don't love the snow but it sure looks pretty. The Golden Gate bridge is pretty too - thanks for sharing your photos. Hope you have a good trip.
Iris, I am loving your trip stories and photos! Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy!
Lorita, black walnut trees grow here too. My MIL used to collect them and hull them as something to keep her hands occupied over the winter months. I personally don't care for the taste but I do like English walnuts. I am glad to hear your BIL is improving. Does he live alone in his own home? That would be pretty amazing for a 95 year old.
Zetta, is your weather getting warmer? I know AZ was too hot in the summer time, and ID too cold in the winter time. I get it! Iowa gets hot and humid and cold as well.
Judith, I hope the mouse is gone for good. Not cool to have critters in the house or garage!
Goodlife, sorry you had seasickness and couldn't enjoy your dolphin watching excursion.
JeriLynn, I think you will be a good "parent"/teacher for a 15 year old this summer. Lots to learn about life, and about how to take care of the animals and clean the house, etc. I hope she is a real help and a true blessing for you and your DH.
Mint, hope things are going well for you and for your mom. Hopefully you are just as busy as you want to be.
Carl, I hope your weather isn't too bad and that you can get out to the senior center. I know you enjoy going.
Eagle, I hope your wind has settled down.
HB, did you make it through your busy week ok? You certainly do have a lot of responsibilities. I hope your knee is improving and that you are or soon will be happy that you had the surgery.
We have been under blizzard conditions for the past 16 hours or so. We didn't get a lot of snow, but the wind was fierce. I 80 here to Nebraska border and I 35 to Minnesota border are closed due to visibility issues. Some (many) roads are also slippery. The wind has died down now; we may be through the worst of it. I do need to clean off my porch as snow has blown up there. 7 degrees this morning; it'll be 75 on Friday! Crazy!
We had a good time in Houston, TX. We spent a lot of time with family. Boys swam all afternoon one day at our hotel pool. They loved it.
Beth

Snow flurries and ice forming, temps in the low 20’s tonight. It’s raw outside.
HB, the Mamas can drop singles twins triplets or even quads. We’ve never had quads but often have twins and triplets. That’s usually when bottle feeding comes into play. I’m hoping everyone delivers before we leave Mid April for a month long trip

HB, my shower has grab bars and a textured floor. I feel safer there than anywhere, plus I hang the fall alarm on a grab bar where I could reach it from the floor if I fell. The pendant is "water resistant" but I don't get it wet if I can help it. I'm sorry your mother won't listen to anyone. My mother was kind of like that too.
Beth, the weather is cold for this far south but we got only a half inch of snow and the streets are clear. I don't expect any difficulty getting to lunch, chair chi, and Griefshare today. Sounds like you are having a bundle up or stay at home day. "Todo, I don't think we're in Texas anymore." It's 16 degrees and windy here, I'm wearing my woolies.
I'm off to the sr ctr. TTYL

Morning, sunny and 40 right now and windy again. Very cold overnight. Glad everyone made it in the weird weather. I'm ready for 90 degrees Friday. Stormy is enjoying being outside-correction-he just barked to come in.

Lorita I haven't thought too much about planting, i cut way back last year.
Beth my mom is having more behaviors like she had at home. The staff has changed greatly since we entered. There are not as good at keeping my mom happy or either the honeymoon is over. Maybe a combination.
1 -
@Mint
It could be a mix of factors. If your mom's progressed, or if other residents are more demanding of attention and/or the newer staff are less talented at keeping her content and uptick in behaviors would be expected. I'm sorry. How are things when you and your sisters visit?
Tornado watch here now.
HB1 -
Sorry to hear that about your mother, Mint. I know the is hard for you and your sisters. My sister had a hard time adjusting to AL. I would call to check on her and I could hear her screaming. They finally rubbed Ativan cream on her arms which really helped.
I just saw the weather- everywhere from temps up to 106 in Phoenix, to dozens of severe weather warnings, blizzards and wildfires. Weather every year is getting worse and will continue to worsen, I'm afraid. My 40 degree temp was on the porch with the sun reflecting off a white wall. Supposed to be 89 Friday. We are 40 degrees colder today than yesterday. I have my Medical Guardian pendant on - going to try to remember. Time for Wagon Train, Zetta. I saw that Have Gun, Will Travel will start being on tv.
0 -
Rat(s) and maybe mice. What I saw saw was a rat I think but some of the poop is tiny.
Ron…I was given severe warnings about the glue traps and have them placed carefully. In my bathroom I put a chair in front of them.
0 -
eaglemom - those are some serious winds - be careful out there.
If I could go to sleep at 3am and get up at noon every day, I'd be a happy girl. But, if I want to go to the gym, and I do, then I have to be more reasonable.
JeriLynn - I'm glad you got to spend time with everyone. It sounds like a wonderful time.
I'm thinking hopeful thoughts that no tornadoes touch down. The weather in that photo looks nasty.
HB - I'm glad baby knee is progressing well, even if she is being a jerk at night.
Your mom reminds me of how my dad was. Cool as that guy was, I believe every gray hair I have is because of him, walking around without a walker, not taking his meds, not going to the doctor, etc. Of course I was on top of all of that, but he didn't make it easy for me. So, I feel ya.
I'm hoping tornadoes don't form in your neck of the woods.
Lorita - It's like weather whiplash! Freezing cold and then 90 degrees!!
I'm glad you have your pendant on.
Beth - I'm glad your trip to Houston was great. It sounds like everyone had a great time.
Are the blizzard conditions done now?
We're having fun so far in SF. We went to see Covenant last night - one of my all-time favorite goth bands. He said his favorite song of theirs is Call the Ships to Port (which they played), so the link is there if you're curious. It's one of my favorites too.
I'm kind of impressed with that guy. All three of them have to be in their late 50s, and they bounced around and played an almost 2 hour set. Then near the end, Eskil (the lead singer), got down on his knees for dramatic effect, and then stood up with no hands touching the floor. Good for him!! He does have that "I work out a lot" look. He looks fit.
Then, as we were walking out the door, I ran into a friend/former colleague I haven't seen in at least a decade. He's a long-time goth so it's not surprising he was there, but it was just really nice to see him. We'll grab lunch with him later in the week. I've always loved his first name, Stanton. How many Stantons do you know? Probably not many. So, I asked him if he'll be at the Death Guild Anniversary tonight (Monday) and he said, "Yeah, it's kind of mandatory." Ha! I suppose it is. 😄
Getting ready to walk around and get some food. It's SO nice outside - 77 degrees.

@GothicGremlin
77F sounds dreamy.
Your dad seems awfully familiar excepting that mom loves going to the doctor. She's got quite the team— PCP, pulmo, cardio, derm, infectious disease, retinal specialist, neuro-ophthalmologist, optometrist, hand surgeon and dentist. PCP was making noises about turfing her to an endo for osteoporosis. I thought my head was going to explode.
I don't know any first name Stantons; it's my birth surname. Both my nieces have it as a middle name. I toyed with it for DS but with his last name it would have sounded ridiculously pretentious.
Mom was extra -extra today. DH and I picked her up to go to the grocery store of her choice. She chose Wegmans. Once again, she had an excuse for why she wasn't using the POC. The excuse du jour was getting dressed. O2 was 83 and dropping. I got her hooked up to the POC and off we went. Once in the store, the plan was to split up and for me to call her an Uber when she was finished shopping as my knee wasn't up for one of her 2-hour trips. We picked her up at 1:30 and were at the store around 2. We checked out by 2:45— $175 so not a quick trip. I hadn't heard from her by 4:15, so I called and got no answer. Her location wasn't updating on Find My App, so I called again at 4:30 and got no answer. I'm getting nervous because the battery on her POC is only good for about 3 hours on a full charge at 2 liters. This would be worse than one's Uber turning back into a pumpkin.
I called customer service and the wonderful gentleman who answered hunted her down for me and put her on the phone. She was just checking out, so I was able to arrange her an Uber and got her home just as her battery hit 2%. That's got to be good for 5 new white hairs and a wrinkle.

Good afternoon all. I'm ready for this weather pattern to move on out. We'll be getting all new patio umbrella's this spring. I had them laying on the ground, out of the holders, on the back side of the hot tub. My thinking was the wind wouldn't be whipping so strongly there - boy was I wrong. I was sitting at my desk and a yellow umbrella piece just blew by, hit the fence, went over and was gone. I put on the heavy coat to see about the others and I have 6 naked umbrella poles with no umbrella's!!! You can see where the wind literally ripped the umbrella up and off the top of the poles and blew them to who knows where. I did look in the neighbors yard and the trees to no avail. Oh well, I'd rather replace umbrella's than a fence or something else.
The wind is still blowing but not quite as strongly. DH is better acting today. Of course he's had my undivided attention so that helps. The brain is amazing to me. He can't remember what he had for lunch but Chinese checkers and he's amazing. I rarely win!
Ron I think your move was good. Just think of the memories you've gotten to make with your granddaughter and grandson. Your closers to your son and his wife. Yes, its not been picture perfect, but its been another step along your journey of life. You know you want to change the situation after your surgery, and we'll be he to encourage you along.
HB I'm sorry baby knee is being a jerk - they can be that way sometimes. It will get better. its just tiring and frustrating while going through it. Your mom will keep you on your toes.
Iris my house is loving your pictures. thanks for sharing.
Carl & Lorita my mom had a pendent she used to wear. She had a bad habit of closing tupperware type of lids by holding them to her chest to 'burp' them. It would signal the pendent every time. They'd ask if she was fine, she'd apologize & say she was closing a lid, and all was well. She didn't like wearing it in the shower - it was beside the shower where she could reach it.
GG have fun in SF.
Hoping everyone else is getting along well. Let's be safe everyone.

Good afternoon Porch Rockers.
Lorita. Im glad your paying more attention to your medical alert. As much as you do inside and outside you need to have it on all the time. Im going to find me one. Im not alone but during the night the kids are upstairs and my bedroom is downstairs. I really don't watch Wagon Train much anymore, they got boarding as well as Gunsmoke, I have seen them all. Im now watching Law and Order SVU, I used to watch that a lot.
HB. Im sorry to hear your baby knee is still giving you issues at night, hopefully your still getting some sleep. I don't like pain so I would want the strongest meds possible. Your so good to your Mom, she is lucky. Im glad you were able to find someone to track her down, I bet you were worried.
Beth. I remember when those space pictures were taken, I guess that shows how old i am. Sorry to hear about your blizzard warning. Be safe. We had a seaver, wind warning 2 nights ago and the wind was normal. So hopefully your blizzard warning turns out to be mild.
Mint. I bet the staff changing upsets and confuses the residents. When my DH, was in MC. He had special caregivers and they were his favorites. He would have been very upset if they left. I think if I was a resident and things canged it would be hard on me. Please try not to worry about it.
Iris. Keep sending us pictures, please. Was the whales skin ruff? My guess is yes
Eagle. Sorry but I had to laugh when you were telling us about the yellow umbrella that flew by. I wonder where the wound up at?
GG. I loved the picture of the bay bridge, that was the one we always went over. I heard they paint the Golden Gate every year, they start at one end and when they finish, they go back and start over again. Is that a fairly tail or is it true. We spent a lot of time in San Francisco, Bodega Bay and Jenner, when I was a growing up. Enjoy lunch with your old friend.
Ron. I hope your feeling better. How long do you think you have had phenomena? Im sorry at times your second guessing your move to Miss. I know at times if Im feeling down about something, I miss my home in Oregon.
Judith. I sure hope your rat/mice have been taken care of. I hope it was a mouse and not a rat. I think rats are really big. I would hate to see one stuck to glue.
I did not realize this was getting so long so I will sign off for now.
Hugs Zetta

Thank you Beth I have just added whale watching to my list for the next season of life…
Adding to the Black Walnut conversation and a little about us. They grow here in western Colorado as well but are not native to the area. We received and planted a seedling black walnut tree while attending an Arbor Day celebration approximately 9 years ago. Such a dry sadly thing when we got it but we gave it a home here on our little want-to-be-a-hobby-farm. It is always the last to leaf out in the spring and the first to lose it's leaves in the fall. I agree with you Beth the English walnuts are much preferred but I am learning to cook/bake with them and we have only been harvesting walnuts for the past three years. So far they are not bitter or acidic. Oh but husking them is so messy and stains my hands, the porch etc.. 🤨 I am thinking of trying some type of home made husker similar to how they peel roasted green chili's or take the feathers off of harvested chickens. But my bigger plan includes selling our black walnut to a company here in Colorado that purchases hard woods for furniture and rifle stocks. I need to make sure it has at least 15' of straight board without knots and meets their diameter requirements. But it will be my answer to not have a tree that trashes my yard once it reaches 30'+ and it over takes that part of my yard. I like to tease our daughter and point to it during summer BBQs and tell her there is her inheritance. 🤣

Crazy weather. A young woman told me yesterday that her son had gotten sunburn Saturday when it was 75 degrees but had to bundle up Monday when the wind chill was zero. The wind was pretty brisk. I put my trash can out Sunday night and it was blown over in the AM.
I remember reading an article many years ago (in National Geographic I think) about the Golden Gate bridge, and it said a crew of men spent their working lives painting it. By the time they finished it was time to start over again. I knew a man in Kansas City who did the same in the interiors of post offices, just painting and repainting the many POs in KC. There are millions of people who spend their lives maintaining the things that make urban life possible, and we never notice them - unless they stop showing up.

Good morning,
Good thing is im coughing up less blood, it is just specks of red now compared to bright red spots Saturday. Still tired and weak, but not as bad.
Getting close to time to turn heat iff and air back on in a day ir two.

Good night

HB - that's just it (about the doctors) - once I got my dad in to see a doctor, you'd have thought they'd been good buddies for their whole lives! They'd be joking and having a great old time. So why did he fight me all the way? I have no idea.
That's cool about the name "Stanton". Btw, we had lunch with him today, which was a lot of fun.
eaglemom - Have your umbrellas shown back up yet? I wonder if they'll turn up.
Zetta - I haven't been to Jenner or Bodega Bay very often, but I've enjoyed them when I've been there.
Zetta and Carl - About the Golden Gate Bridge - I've heard that too - about the amount of time it takes to paint it. I can believe it, although, in the length of time I lived in SF, and the many times I've been over that bridge, I've never seen anyone paint it. Could just be me though. Here's your trivia for the day - do you know what color the bridge is? International Orange. I learned that from one of the traffic reports on KCBS in SF.
Ron - I'm glad you're starting to feel better.
I've been out and about. Last night was the Death Guild anniversary — 33 years. Death Guild is the longest running weekly goth club in the world. Impressive. It was a lot of fun. I spent a lot of time socializing and dancing. My feet still hurt! I was either standing for dancing for more than four hours - in boots. I guess it's good for me? Plus I was wearing velvet, so I was really hot. I had to go outside and get some of that cooling air.
Tonight we went into the Mission to Sangria and Salt - the resurrected Cha Cha Cha. It's a different place, but they have a lot of the same menu items that Cha Cha Cha did - and they taste the same. I was so happy. I've always loved that place. So I guess it's true - occasionally you can go home again. 🙂

Good morning!
I saw a good show in Branson yesterday, Reza the illusionist. Lots of noise, flames erupting from the stage, and mind-boggling tricks. Good times!

Good morning,
Got 2 sets of taxes to the accountant yesterday. One more to go today in Tennessee. Glad that's almost over.
Up early to make a salad to deliver to the (in 2 days) 16 year old. He always wants me to make him a big salad. I'm not sure he shares, lol.
Weather yesterday was sunny but windy/cold. Warming up a little today.
Ran all over the country yesterday; got goat feed (1000 lbs), cooked for Scottsboro, went to visit my Aunt with dementia. She's had a rough couple of days. But she showered and put on bright red lipstick just for me, lol. She's decided she will wear the new pink sweater with hearts on it that I got her on Easter Sunday.
I think we are taking the new 5th wheel camper up to Scottsboro for a trial run and to clean BIL's camper/camp site.
SIL has had RSV for the last 2 weeks. Really tough on her. I'm getting the vaccine after this trip. Flu and RSV have been rampant here.
Gotta run. Hope everyone has a good day.
