Carl - I really do like the idea of meal plan food delivery services. And it sounds like it's way better than take out.

Ron and Lorita- My dad always said the same about the VA - "hurry up and wait". It seemed like he was always fighting with them about something. He was definitely a "stand up for your rights" kind of guy.

Judith - I'm with you. It's past time to jettison a bunch of stuff. My starting point is to take photos of the family stuff I have and then take them with me when I go to CA for my aunt's 95 birthday party in May. I'll ask around and see who wants what. Then I'm shipping whatever I can. It'll be a start. I also need to donate clothes.

Today was fairly busy. I had a lot of errands to run, including mailing a Death Guild t-shirt to Karyn. She's been editing the blog, and she's a Death Guild girl, so I wanted to get her one of the anniversary t-shirts. I thought the colors were kind of pretty. Here's the link to the main Death Guild page - the flyer is on the right, and that's what's on the t-shirt.

I also went to the gym and did cardio for about 50 min. I didn't want to over do it, especially since I'm working out with my trainer tomorrow.

And then - more laundry. 😄

Good morning. Cloudy and mid-50s for a high today here today.

Busy day today. I have an appointment at 12:30 to drop off mom's hearing aids for a battery replacement. She'll be discharged sometime today as well. DH will go to Costco with me to haul heavy groceries and DS will go with me to get mom. She's got a lot of gear— books, electronics, toiletries, Bi-pap— and her room is at the farthest end of the large sprawling suburban hospital.

She seems closer to her baseline. The consensus is this was a case of worsening COPD, CHF and pulmonary hypertension. It's pretty clear from what her docs said that she can expect to need supplemental O2 going forward. I'm not sure if she's realized that or not.

She did fairly well with the hospitalization but was foggy on details of what happened and what she was told. She told me the PCP's office told her that her DEXA was "fine"; the note in her chart detailing the conversation included a referral to endocrinology. She swore they took her for an MRI late Monday night; they didn't. Her phone died. The officer who was at the house with the EMTs put her charger in the pocket of the robe she was wearing. She told me this in the ER. But Monday night she swore her phone was dying and that she had the wrong charger for it. She called my niece to call me to tell me to call her on the room's landline if I needed to reach her. Calling niece is never a good idea— she keeps her phone on silent and doesn't usually answer.

I suppose I need to schedule the post-hospitalization appointments, too.

I hope all have a pleasant day.

    Good afternoon.

HB it sounds as though you've got a full day. I'm glad your mom is heading home, but it will mean more appointments for you to schedule and manage. Getting her to comply with the O2 will be difficult for you to implement, I fear.

GG every time I even begin to think of downsizing, etc I get overwhelmed. Every so often I work on a closet or two, but I've never been able to totally rid it of everything like I should. Then I look around the house and it has sentimental items from my parents house and I just can't donate them. The house is clean, neat and tidy - but don't open a closet or a drawer!!!

I need to make a grocery run and hit the product stand. Back later to check on everyone. Let's be safe everyone.

Mom is home. Her discharge plan includes follow-ups with 3 different doctors. One scheduled, waiting on 2 more plus the endocrinologist. Waiting on a call from PT to reschedule Friday as we'll be at cardiology.

Being a caretaker keeps one pretty busy, doesn't it HB? I was looking at photos today and was struck by the difference between one of me taken with DW about 6 months before she died and one of me taken a month ago. In the new picture, the stress lines are gone and the smile looks genuine. Despite having grown a white beard, I look younger. I hope you get some rest between your many responsibilities.

Hi, glad your mom is.home, HB. Hope all goes well for both look of yo.

Iris, I do find it takes longer and more rest to recover from exertion.

.Still in recovery mode- takes a while Eating soft foods now so not as.hungry.

Enjoy your evening- 90 degrees here and very windy. Just saw a new, while calf so I think there must at leadt six tiny ones. Also saw Millie with a new baby. They are so cute - either running to keep up with mom or running ahead of.her..

HB - I'm glad your mom is closer to baseline, and I'm glad she's home. So many appointments….

Carl - I've had the same experience as you - when I look at photos taken of me when I was caregiving my sister, I see a lot of worry lines. Two years later, most of them are gone. I know that smile too - the painted on one, and the real one.

Judith and eaglemom - Every time I think of downsizing I get overwhelmed. 😄 Our house isn't messy, but we could use less stuff. None of the family stuff I have is large - my grandmother's cookie jar, her depression glass plates .. things like that. I just hope someone in the family will want it all, or at least some of it.

Lorita - I hope you're starting to feel better.

As for me - gym was this morning - all upper body strength training. I won't lie, it felt good, well, except for my triceps. I'll be feeling those tomorrow.

The weather started out so nice today, we had sun and everything. By the late afternoon it all went to hell in a hand basket. A cold rain and temps in the low 40s. At least it didn't feel like snow.

I had a dentist appointment in the afternoon for a cleaning and that went well. Now I'm good with that for awhile.

    Good morning 🌞

I've lost another pound and a little more. I think a lot of what I've lost is the gallon of water I was carrying in my legs from all the salt I was eating in restaurants. Good riddance! Walking is a lot easier and more pleasant. I think I'll check my blood pressure and see if it has lowered. TTYL

Good morning, Question for you ladies-do any if you know of a.perfume or cologne that has the same, or close to the fragrance of L'Origan by Coty? It has a spicy, floral fragrance. I have worn it for over 60 years and they quit making it. I only have s little left and would like to find a similar fragrance.

    Emeraude by Coty

and L'Origan by Coty are remarkably similar fragrances with a 82% similarity score. If you enjoy one, you will likely appreciate the other.

Also, you can find on Ebay

Good morning. I'm sitting around waiting on call-backs. Perhaps if I jump in the shower someone will call.

Warm here today and very sunny.

@Lorita There are several sites online that will suggest scents based on a perfume you like. This is one I have used before.

    Good morning.

Lorita, I have not heard the name Coty for such a long time. My mother used to wear this perfume. The only scent I wear is the fragrance from my laundry detergent on my clothes.

HB, I try the bathroom trick myself when I am expecting an important call. It never fails that the long awaited call will come when I'm indisposed, LOL.

Carl, it's amazing how much salt is in all foods. My brother, who is s dietician, was diligent about checking labels for sodium content. I began to follow his lead, now I too, check every label for sodium. Lower salt does make a difference in how I feel. If I overindulge one day, the next morning my face is puffy.

    Good afternoon.

Aren't fragrances interesting. I can't smell Chanel #5 without thinking of my mom. That was her fragrance. She never purchased it for herself, that was always dad's job. And she never received it for birthdays or Christmas. He would just bring her a bottle home "just because I love you." She'd cry every time. It's a good memory.

The pollen here is awful. The green grass is literally yellow. I've never seen it this bad. I'm blowing the patio off multiple x's a day. No rain in site either, ugh. I'm wrapping Madison's paws in this stretchy tape when she goes out. Otherwise she's one big oak pollen doodle! She doesn't mind, which is good. I still have to brush her undercoat, but that's not too bad. Time for me to get her scheduled for her summer hair cut I suppose.

Time to unload the dishwasher. For some reason I just don't like doing that job. But, alas, someone has to do it.

    Let's be safe everyone.

Iris your brother is spot on around added sodium. When mom was first started on a low salt diet, I was shocked how much salt was lurking in her favorite foods. The girl would have soup daily for lunch— usually the entire can rather than the suggested serving size.

eaglemom— I feel you on the dishwasher. My adult niece lived with us for a time to pay down her student loans. While DS, an only, mostly enjoyed the experience he once accused me of "liking her better". I said it was because she would empty the dishwasher without being asked.

Question of the day: Why is it whenever I get a spam email regarding the purchase of an iPhone why is it always the iPhone 17- Pro in Cosmic Orange?

Thanks, everyone. I beIieve mother wore Emerald -at least I remember the.bottle or cap was.green . Guess I could try it. Charles used to wear "West" and it was discontinued, too! Why.do they do that? I will check out that link, HB.

Hot and windy from the South here today. Wind will.be strong from the North tomorrow.

I'm as weak as water-guess not eating solid or much food and just laying around doing nothing for a week is the reason. Maybe scrambled eggs for Stormy and I later. I need to walk around some or use the recumbent bike a litte.bit.

Hello everyone. I’ve been occasionally reading these interesting discussions for the past few years but I’ve finally decided to jump on the porch with you all and participate.

Strong storms are predicted for our location this evening through tomorrow morning, so I’m not looking forward to the effect it will have on DH’s “high-anxiety” dog. He’s on two medications for his anxiety but nothing helps when it comes to storms or fireworks. So I’m anticipating a sleepless night for myself and the dog.

Carl - it sounds like you would recommend the Factor dinners. I’ve been looking into those types of companies and had decided on Factor. I just haven’t started it yet. I plan to order enough for the dinner meal for myself and DH, maybe 4 or 5 each per week.

    Have a good evening everyone!

You know our fragrance becomes part of our identity. I occasionally smell It on clothing I have worn.. Ordered my caladiums to be shipped mid April. I ordered shorter ones, medium, this year so the wind won't bother them so much. I like red and white ones together. Judith, the woman who owns Florida Boys with her husband said they have 45 acres of them. That is ten more acres than our meadow. Just imagine all of them leafed out. They mow them(hate that) to get the bulbs. Think I will plant four tall containers and a little one on the tree stump. Can't put them in the groubd.because Rusty eats everything.

Welcomed to our porch, mommafour, glad you decided to join us. As you know, we have discussions about everything. We have become sort of a family of.friends over the years. I started this thread in 2008 when Charles was diagnosed with vascular dementia. Didn't know quite what to expect and needed advice and got lots of help. If you don't mind, tell us a little about yourself and the State where you live. We are scattered all over the U.S. and Australia. Again, welcome.

Welcome mommafour. I had a diagnosis of cognitive impairment not otherwise specified but my neurologist has changed it to adult attention deficit disorder. I joined Lorita's thread because everyone is so nice! I live in the Los Angeles area.

Lorita, when we stop exercising, even for a little while, our muscles begin to atrophy and we weaken. I found this out because I stopped walking just before Christmas but I didn't resume. Because I was deconditioned, the amount of exertion from my trip really stressed my muscles and created the DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness), which I am still trying to recover from. The prevention is consistent exercise. Also eating enough protein and other nutrients, which I am eating. My legs still ache.

I'm going on a day trip tomorrow to a bird sanctuary in Santa Barbara. I hope my legs won't hurt.

    Good night.

Carl - I found out about salt and sugar the first time I did the ABCs. I read the labels obsessively and sugar and salt are in everything. I knew it was bad, but I didn't know it was that bad. When I do the ABCs I don't eat anything in boxes, bags and jars, and all of that extra salt and sugar go by the wayside. Really eye-opening.

Lorita - scrambled eggs sounds like a winner to me. I hope you were able to manage it.

Hi mommafour! - I did the same thing - I lurked for awhile, and then I said hi to everyone. Iris is right - everyone here is really nice. And I really enjoy hearing about the mid-west and the south. I'm a west coast girl, so most of it is all new information for me.

My end of the porch was sunny and cold today. I'm grateful for all the sun we got, but it was really chilly.

I went to the gym for lower body strength training, and then stick fighting for cardio.

This afternoon was writing, posting more photos for the blog, and then getting a new post up.

I'm starting to slow down now and getting ready to go to sleep. See you all tomorrow.
