Dementia progressing...

My mom's dementia has been progressing so fast.
She lives in a skilled nursing home, but no longer knows where she is.
Although I am not her caregiver, I am her primary everything else.
It is so hard to talk to her and hear her be so lost and confused. There's times where her voice sounds so familiar, like we can just have a regular conversation but then I remember we can't. If that makes sense.
I miss my mom...I miss that I'll never be her daughter again.

First of all, I am new to this group, but just reading and having been responded today as made a world of difference in my outlook and attitude. I was thinking I really need therapy!

Secondly, I am so sorry to hear about your mom's progression. My mom's is slow (mild/mod Alz) and it is a really hard, tricky stage for me to deal with. I LOVED how you called yourself, "I am her primary everything else". That is what I am! And it is mentally and emotionally exhausting, she is relentless and it is hard. I know when she progresses, it will be hard in other ways.

This is such a sad, heartbreaking disease.

You're still her caregiver♥️ The progression is so draining, and it's so hard to see their losses. Sometimes it's enough just to hold their hand. Don't forget to take breaks when you need them.
