First post, DW with EOAD

Hello everyone, this is my first post. My DW was diagnosed with EOAD in the spring of 2025 at the age of 59. Symptoms started at least 5 years prior, but we really saw changes in late 2024. We went through a whirlwind of changes last year getting a diagnosis, retiring, ST & LT disability, SSDI approval, selling cars, medical & legal documents, updating communications, learning as much as possible, and letting family and friends know.

She is currently stage 4 and content while I continue to work full-time. At this point, I think I know what can come next, and we are trying to live life to the fullest while we wait for changes to react to. Itching our travel bug, house safety upgrades and spending as much time as we can with friends and family.

I have learned so much from all of you over the past year. Thank you all!

Boy you look like you are doing all the right things. My DW was diagnosed with EOAD in 2023 at the age of 53 and was also told probably started 4-6 years prior. I was already just retired and she had to close her medical billing company due to forgetting how to use computer. I’m thinking she was at early stage 4 then. We did everything you mentioned while she was still able. Fast forward she is now entering stage 6. I’m glad we had the little time to do things while she still was able to understand. Hang in there and use all of the information you will find here to help you along the way.

I forgot to mention that I am on a group zoom call every 3rd Wednesday that is exclusively meant for men who are caregiving for their wives who have EOAD. It’s a great group of guys talking and helping each other through the journey. Just look up Lorenzoshouse and the group is lighthouse.

@blacksparky Thanks for the encouragement and for sharing your story. You hang in there as well!

As for your suggestion about your group at Lorenzohouse. I'll keep it in mind as our situation changes.
