Iris - If you don't mind me asking, what types of things do you put on your yearly "to do" list? Do you usually get most of those things done? About half the time, I have a monthly list, but usually it's a weekly list. I've never had a yearly list.
HB - dead bugs are different than windshield wipers. With dead bugs you're holding a position. Do you use a bosu to balance on when you're doing those?
With windshield wipers you lay flat on your back, with your feet planted on the ground, and keep your shoulders on the ground. Then raise your arms above your head while holding the weights of your choice (start light). Then straighten your legs and raise them both towards your right arm, getting as close as you can. Then drop both straight legs down toward the center, without touching your legs to the ground. Then raise your straight legs toward your left arm. That counts as one rep. Once you get used to them, they feel kind of good.
Ron - I bet you're going to start getting some really good rest, now that you're in your new place.
eaglemom - I'm glad your hot tub saga is over. I hope you enjoy your new tub!
The weather here claims to be 72, but it feels cooler, probably due to the clouds. I'm waiting for my sun!
I went to the dentist yesterday, all is well. X-rays were good. Even better, it was a quick visit.
For our 4th of July treat, we're making pot stickers. We almost never make them because they're so time consuming (but they are fabulous). We got the recipe from a pamphlet/"cookbook" from a restaurant we love in Hawi, Bamboo, on the Big Island. We modify the recipe to use tofu instead of chicken, and for the sauce we don't use 1/2 cup of sugar, only 1 teaspoon - still fabulous.
I hope all of you stay cool - that heat is nothing to mess with.

Carl - is that anything like the future's so bright I gotta wear shades? Sorry, I couldn't resist. 🙂
Lorita - I rarely wear dresses or skirts, but when I do, if I'm wearing something slightly sheer, I do wear a slip. As my mom used to say, "no need to put on a show", so I don't.

Of course. It's 100 and the AC isn't going into high speed. I called expecting them to put me off until Monday, but he had a tech here within 2 hr. The guy did everything and then some, checked everything and had it going into high speed immediately. We'd had multiple power surges yesterday and I blamed that. But apparently our system has a "fail safe" mode for the high fan when the outdoor temp is over 100. It will not go into high fan because it uses more energy. The 'work around' is to override the system when its over 100. I don't ever remember this being an issue before. He said he changed the systems fan speed and that will also help it from happening. Phew, crisis averted and house cool.

No rain here, Lorita. Weather Channel thinks 56% chance tomorrow afternoon but today is bright sun with occasional clouds and a southern breeze. I have the pale blue eyes the Native Americans called "white eyes" and the sun hurts from May through July. So, brimmed hat and sunglasses. 😎

Eagle, glad your appliances are getting sorted out. I had a frustrating experience with my clothes dryer. It was locked and didn't respond to the unlock procedure in the owner's manual. I thought since it was a computer I would treat it like one, so I turned off the juice at the breaker box and turned it back on. Worked!

About the reflecting pool: Politicians have been talking about "draining the swamp", and they drained it into the reflecting pool.

Thanks for my laugh for the day, Carl. I think it is even fenced off.. Shameful! Today I.saw the motorcade driving down the middle of it before it was painted. Wonder what that did to.it!
I have almost let my black eyed Susan' plant die. Did not realize. It.was that dry. I wish I had a place.fenced off to.plant black walnut trees. There are several coming up where Rusty has planted.nuts. If I.could do tha.they would.bring a pretty.penny in 20 years.
Good night

We had 4.2" of rain here today - most of it overnight. Some places north of us had as much as 12" !!! There is a fair amount of flooding - none here, thankfully. Our pond level raised but it's not flooded and over the course of the day has gotten closer to normal. We anticipate we could get more rain tonight.

Hi, it’s been a while since I’ve posted. Not much happening here in Virginia. We really need rain. We’re in a severe drought.
I’m going to post a cute picture I took today right outside my window.
I really enjoy reading of everyone’s busy life. It seems my big adventures are going to a doctor or an occasional haircut. Take care, stay out of the heat and stay hydrated.

Hi Sandy,
Now that's a funny looking bird! lol

Hi Sandy, is that real or a statue?
GG, here is some of what is on my annual To Do list:
Prepare taxes
Make a budget
Organize financial papers
Pay off credit card debt
Lose weight
Prepare for my various trips
Take cats in for annual checkups and vaccinations
A lot of projects that have to do with decluttering
Keep up with relatives
Look for misplaced items
Follow up with medical and dental appointments
These may not look like much, but I break projects into smaller tasks, so there are about fifty action items or more, I don't actually count them all. I like when I can check things off my list.

Sandy - So very cute!
Iris - Your list looks good - and it's a good idea …. you end up with a yearly overview. My lists are similar, I just don't do them all at once.
We went out aurora hunting tonight and we got lucky!

Happy Birthday America!
We got up to 103 yesterday. In my lifetime, that's happened here maybe 2-3 other times. We had a little rain in the evening with winds strong enough to make the lights flicker which is terrifying on such a hot day. Headed to 98 today with T-storms in the evening. Fingers crossed.
Ron— How's the cellulitis? Are things clearing up? Do you have plans for the day?
Beth— We had the first corn of the season last night. My ear was watery tasting, but DH liked his so much he ate a second. I suspect everybody thinks their local corn is the best. I know my aunts in Boston would swear their "native corn" was superior to all others. Having had both, I'd say it's hard to beat Jersey corn; there's something about the terroir that makes it worth seeking out. Not for nothing is it the Garden State. The first time my MIL (a lovely woman but terrible cook) served me Indiana roasting ears I thought "Girrrl, where I come from, we hang this on the door as decor on the fall".
Eaglemom— Congratulations on your new hot tub! May you and your knees enjoy decades of relief from it. I hope the new company has a better service crew behind it should you ever need it.
Judith— I hear you on the price of a roast. Yikes! DH was hankering for a nice Yankee Pot Roast but balked when I explained how much that would cost. I used to pick up a 2-pack at Costco for around $30 but now some packs are $65+. That's crazy. I couldn't enjoy it. I did luck out last week. I was shopping a market on my way home and found a prime chuck roast for 1/2 off as it was the sell-by date. I tossed it in the freezer for a break in the weather. Or a special occasion.
Gothic G— My dead bugs are different. On my back, legs in a table-top, arms straight up. Maintaining the knee position, drop arm and leg on opposite sides to the floor. I never used a bosu. At PT we had both wooden rocker boards and foam pads for balance specific work. Weirdly humbling.
Yay for pot stickers. I'm meeting friends for Thai tonight and now you've got me thinking about dumplings. I seem to be the only one at the table who craves them. The aurora pictures are gorgeous.
Sandy— That picture is adorable. It looks like something from a funny greeting card. We get the odd squirrel on the feeder but never a little trash panda.
Carl— How did you finally decide to celebrate the day?
I have similar eyes. I am the sort of person who has as many pairs of prescription sunnies as regular indoor glasses. DH, whose eyes are almost black, does not understand that this is not about fashion. DS's eyes are sort of green and he's as bad as I am.
I feel like the reflecting pool is a metaphor. I'll leave it at that.

It's a quiet morning here. I think I will putter, potter or piddle about before heading to mom's for the daily BP check. It was low yesterday but not as low as her O2. She was off the POC making her bed. Pulse ox gave a 64%. She was back to her normal in a minute or two, but she needs to knock this off. She's risking organ damage at that level. I think I need to have another CTJ with her because I don't think she understands the danger in what she's doing. It's exhausting.
I hope all have a nice 4th.

Most younger women wear slip shorts— those long panties that look like bicycle shorts. They provide some of the same smoothing that allow a garment to lay properly over the body. I would argue that they're better in a lot of respects except for opacity.
It's hard to find slips even in lingerie departments. The Macy's near me doesn't have them except online. I bought my last two a Boscov's which is a very old-school department store that is mostly merchandised for older folks.0 -
We have a lot of flooding in the area. Not us personally - other than our pond level rose and was covering the rocky shoreline this a.m.
I went to the gym this a.m. and did squats, deadlifts, lateral step overs, lunges, suitcase march, overhead press, box jumps, rowing, boxing, bike, treadmill and ARC trainer (kind of like an elliptical). I still "need" to do step ups, lateral hopping, farmer's carry, bridge and bird dog. I sort of have 2 routines. 1) is all of the above - what I plan for myself based on strengthening bones in spine and hips and getting in cardio; and 2) The senior program designed by the trainers using various machines etc.
Lots of fireworks in the neighborhood last night; I'm sure there will be more tonight.
GG, the auroras are stunning! So glad you got to see them!
HB, your mother's O2 level is indeed very concerning.
Ron, Carl, Judith, Lorita, Mint, GoodLife, Sasue, Iris and everyone else that I inadvertently missed - HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!

Are you all watching ABC and the seven wonders of America? So far they have shown the Grand Canyon and Appalachian Mountains. Now the Everglades. Jus wanted to remind you. Back later.

Good morning.
Today is Independence Day. People of African descent made up twenty percent of the population at the time of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, but the majority of them were not free. Nevertheless, we too will commemorate the 250 anniversary of our nation's founding.
GG, how fortunate to see the Aurora Borealis where you live. The pictures are amazing!
Beth, your home and your pond look so refreshing!
HB, do you think your mom can't remember about her need for the oxygen or she just doesn't like it?
The temp is mild again today, in the 70s.

HB, I wish your mother would get used to using oxygen. One of the volunteers who manage the senior center wears one of those that looks like a small purse with a shoulder strap all the time, and he moves around as well or better than I. He dances and walks the track with his SO, carries folding tables, etc.
I missed the BBQ at DS' RFC. It turns out what they called "Fourth of July party" was on July 2, the last day they were fully staffed before the holiday. I should have checked it in advance. Oh, well.
I skipped the July 3 party at the senior living place. It was hot and bright and I didn't want to stand around in the sun eating hot dogs. I bought a watermelon this morning and it's chilling. DS and I can cut it after church tomorrow. So, I am having a very quiet Independence Day. Lunch was one of my mail order meals: garlic chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans. Not very festive, but tasty and healthy.
Looks like the thunderstorms are passing to the north of me. If so, there will be quite a fireworks show from the county park tonight.
Iris, you are correct. Independence Day celebrates independence from England. Freedom was celebrated last month, on Juneteenth.
Sandy, GG and Beth, thank you for the pictures. We live in a beautiful world.

Such a good show. Hope you all cam see it. I want to see the part about Mount Rushmore- Carol said it was on last night.
Sandy , you see the most interesting things from your window and the house. Does the Coon come there to eat birdfeed?. Hope you are well and have a good Fourth. Will you all have fireworks?
GG, how lucky to see the northern lights and get pictures... Do you see them often?
Pretty nature pictures, Beth. Things I enjoy. We have two ponds in front of the house. The cows like to.swim across.the wide one but really scares me when the calves swim across - all you can see is their heads.
Very quiet day here. I also got a watermelon, Carl. Wish I still had the old, wooden ice cream maker. We always made ice cream on the Fourth.
Just saw Joey Chestnut ate 66 hot dogs in the contest-he won!
Zetta, it showed the Pet Parade in Bend, Oregon.
Judith, also showed a parade in Edmond.
Enjoy our Nation's birthday!

I am rescued by good friends. Sean and Tammy called and invited me to their home for food and fellowship. I'm going to shower, put on clean clothes, and go out. 😎

High winds with Los of power outages .. Sirens. soundimg on Lake EUfaula to warn boaters to get out of water

The fireworks are slowing down, but I hear thunder, so it's not a quiet night (not that Independence Day ever is). The storm is 10 miles west of me and heading this way.
Had a nice time at Sean's house. Three other couples were there, and Tammy made wraps to cook in the air fryer, and one of those taco bar things with Mexican rice, refried beans, and such. Nice party.
Good night. Hope you all had a safe and fun holiday.

Black Americans fought in the Revolutionary War of Independence. Crispus Attucks, a Black man, was the first casualty of that war.
I watched two hours of fireworks from my balcony. People are very celebratory here. I also watched the Macy's Fireworks and Show on television. I can't remember the last time I watched television.
I watched the tall ships in NY Harbor on YouTube, how thrilling! Everyone across the country seemed to be celebrating and having a great time. I liked to watch the flyovers, too.
Fireworks are still going on.

I just watched this drone show—it was fantastic!

Happy post-4th!
I slept late today and caught up on my sleep. Then we made burgers for our holiday meal. Mine was an impossible burger, my s.o.'s was the regular kind. We also cut up a watermelon. First one I've had this season. So good.
HB - that's craziness on the prices of those roasts! I'm out of the loop on prices of beef, but man.
Ah yes, your dead bugs are different, but no matter what form they take, they're always humbling. They don't seem like they should be so hard, and yet ….
About reflecting pools … yes, a metaphor. I have to say though, all these years later, when I think of reflecting pools, I still think about the episode of the X-Files where Mulder and Scully go undercover to a planned community to find the monster of the week. Their cover names are Rob and Laura Petrie (Petrie as in dish - or the Dick Van D*y*k*e show, your choice). Mulder decides to dig a reflecting pool in his front yard to smoke out the big bad. Funny episode.
Beth - that's a lot of exercises! Do you do those are in one go, or do you spread them out over several sessions? How many reps do you do in one set?
I love your pond!
Carl - yes, we really do live in a beautiful world. I'm glad you had a good time at your friend's house.
Lorita - Don't I wish! (that I could always see auroras). 🙂 They're special, and even when the space conditions are perfect, in the PNW we still have to contend with the rain and the clouds. The last time I saw them was a faint show in Feb, 2026, and before that Nov, 2025.
Iris - my trainer would really like to have a Crispus Attucks Day.
