Looks like you had a.nice day. The fruit really looks good.. Not at all like our farmer's markets in Okla. I don't think they even have one in the town where I.go. They do.have farmer's trucks with produce, most melons. My favorite watermelon is orange inside but hard to.find. I still haven't. cut the one I bought.. Should.cut it and take half to my.good neighbors.
I heard something on the world.news tonight that brought tears to my eyes.. Not sure where it was but a policeman left two police dogs in his car with motor off and windows up. He left them in the hot car for seven hours and they suffocated. What a terrible death for them. They say the temp in a car goes up to 124 in about 20-30 min. How could he forget two dogs in the car. My car has a warning if anything is in the back seat when you turn off the motor. He had been suspended. He needs more than that! So many little kids die when they're left in hot cars. Stormy goes outside long to take care of business and to check out things, then back inside. With his double coat he can't stand hot weather but loves snow. You all sleep well tonight and stay cool.

The local news just reported that the Cherokee.Nation just opened the largest tribal hospital in the US in Tahlequah-W.W.Hastings. There will also be a Medical College onsite. The old Hastings Hospital will.become a nursing school. Plans are to open another multi-million dollar hospital in Claremore,I think it said.. Cherokees are going to take care of their own medical care. Some.of the names of some.of the Cherokees where I worked was Horsechief, One Bear,Red Eagle,Bluenird, Hogshooter. and Red Mouth.. I know there are many.others but these are the ones I knew.
There was a really good barbecue restaurant called Sixkillers...one.big lake my umcle.helped build is called Lake Tenkiller. You should hear the names of some of the towns in Oklahoma-
Enough of that- Good night.

Morning, Ron, hope you have a good day and feel better.
Happy National French Fry Day, everyone! I love French fries cooked in the NuWave oven, Sandy. I always cook a few sweet potato.fries to eat after the potato.ones as dessert. I like salt and catsup and usually have cottage cheese with them. How do you all like yours? Also like seasoned potato wedges cooked in the NuWave oven.
Going to be near 100 again today so be careful out there.

Lorita, what a terrible story about the police dogs! I agree, suspension is too soft, he should be prosecuted for animal cruelty!
Do you remember Wilma Mankiller? She was the first woman Chief of the Cherokee Nation.
I love fries! I never thought of eating sweet potato fries as dessert. It's a good idea!

Good morning! Happy French Fry Day!
I eat regular fries with catsup and pepper, but I put nothing on really good fries. IMO, the best fries are cut from unpeeled potatoes and fried in really hot peanut oil.

For sure I remember Wilma Mankiller! Charles was part Cherokee, I'm only a 32 nd, and she was his heroine. We thought she was a good Chief and I think Chuck Hoskin is, too. He has done a lot for the Cherokees. You know.John Ross is buried in our family cemetery. He was the Principal Chief during the Trail of Tears. They used to.have a play - Trail of Tears-in an ampitheater that was very good.

I'm back, finally. Internet issues off and on for the last several days. They say it has nothing to do with the weather. But, my theory is it happens when its over 100 and not any other time. But what do I know?
Oh the subject of weather, I was wanting to sit on the patio last night but it wasn't comfortable, temperature wise. When I came inside I figured out why. It was 98 with heat index over 100 and this was at 11pm. Lorita you know exactly how it feels. Ugh.
I'm going to go back and try to catch up. Let's be safe everyone.

Oklahoma is very interesting in that roughly half of Oklahoma's land area is legally classified as Native American reservation land and Oklahoma holds the second-highest percentage of Native American residents in the country, trailing only behind Alaska. I am assuming that the residents counted are those only on the roles.

Los Angeles County is the county with the largest population of Indigenous Native Americans. There used to be an annual Pow-Wow in the park a few blocks from me, but as it grew it was moved to the local college. The college is built on Tongva ceremonial land.
Also, many of the casinos are run by Native Americans. We have a lot of casinos that compete with Las Vegas.

You know I could look out my office window and see the Five Civilized Tribes Museum but never went in. When the Hospital had.visitors from Washington they always took them to the Museum. It was a Mission for Creek Freedmen in the 1880s before it became the Museum.
Charles'mother was on the Cherokee rolls but not sure Charles was. He could have gotten a Cherokee car tag if we.had lived in that Nation so maybe he was. His.family wss Cherokee and Osage but for some reason they never claimed Osage...Probably should have because the Osage had a lot of oil money. His aunt lived in Osage County and when his mother would.visit us we would take her to see.her sister. When we would.cross the Arkansas River she always commented about the State selling their sand. I should watch Killers of the Flower Moon.
Iris, Okla. also has a lot of casinos. I.can think of three within 30 miles of me. I have never been inside one. Most of them have pretty names like Indigo Sky, River Spirit, River Wind and many more.
Eagle, for sure I know about humidity especially after all the rain and greenery we have. Too hot for man or beast. That's why I wanted the barn open for the.girls. We have a South wind today.and it makes it cooler for them with north and south doors open so the wind can blow through. I was out on the porch a couple of hours ago trimming Stormy's nails and they were leaving the shade going to the barn. Smart girls!
You all stay cool- fall is only a couple of months away!!

Lunched with a friend today. She gave me some tomatoes, cucumbers, and squash from her garden. Yum! Summer has its drawbacks, but it's salad season.

Sounds good, Carl. I still need to cut that watermelon and those two cantalopes.

Hot Humid Stormy and just yuk.
I have a Colonoscopy Wednesday and then we are going camping at Noccalula Falls for a week. Two big Flea Markets over the weekend; one is so large you can’t do it all in 1 day.Stopped by an Estate Sale for just a bit today. Got a basket to hang on the laundry room wall and a blue handmade pottery mixing bowl, some vintage tea towels and sewing beads for a denim jacket.. Going back tomorrow to see if the vintage rocker/recliner is still there. DH balked at the price but I would’ve happily paid it 🤣
Good news on the Arlington Cemetery battle to get my late FIL inurned: the Probate Court has prepared a Court Petition for me to sign and get notarized. (Even though I already have been appointed his Personal Representative 2 years ago) They will then prepare an Order from the Court designating my right to proceed. All that without an attorney and for only the $37 filing fee!!!
YAY 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Time for the news. Have a wonderful evening everyone ❣️

I'm back from my visit with my best friend. It was great - and she was so happy with the Japanese treats I brought with me. For dinner she made soup with ramen, tofu, mushrooms, and lots of fresh veggies from her garden. And now to try to catch up —
Beth - congrats on the dead lifts!!!! Impressive.
I am so ready for these cataracts to be gone.
Carl - I know it's not aimed at me, but thank you for the cataract cheer leading. It makes me feel better about having it done.
And you are so right about it being salad season. I love it. Also, cherries and watermelon - two of my favorite things. I'm looking forward to the Lapins cherries next month. We get the ones that are high elevation and grow on Mt. Hood in Oregon. If you ever see any at your grocery store, pick some up, they're so good.
Lorita - 18 years for this thread? Wow, that's a long time!
Really glad your hantavirus test came out negative.
Iris - omg - Canter's and the original farmer's market. I know them both well. My s.o. and obviously his whole family is Jewish, so when we visit them in L.A., a trip to Canter's is always on tap. I also like having brunch at the farmer's market. Man, it's been awhile since I've been to either of those places.
Nanny - boo for the colonoscopy (but good you're doing it), but great news on the Arlington cemetery battle.
While at my friend's house, we played a card game called Take Time. It's a cooperative game, kind of math-y (just addition and subtraction), interesting game mechanics, and very pretty to look at. I enjoyed playing it. If you're looking for a new game, I recommend this one.
Today I was back in the gym doing the earthquake bar, and lots of other strength training.
All of you in the heat, please take care.

Good morning
Finally treating my leg with two ointments, I hope this time we are on the right track.
Ron

Happy Saturday.
Ron I'm glad you have a treatment plan for your leg. Fingers crossed that this works. You've not said much about your new place. Are you settling in there?
Good news for you Lorita from you doctor. I know you feel like you can take a deep breath and relax now. Your girls are smart being inside the cool draft during the heat of the day.
Carl those fresh veggies sound wonderful. I think I'll run up to our local farmers market and see what I can come home with. They have several vendors on Saturday mornings.
Everyone be safe today.

Morning, everyone. Ron, glad you have ointment for your rash and.hope it works quickly. It's 87 but already feels like 100 with a good south wind, thank goodness.
I cut the waterme!on and a big cantaloupe, with one half of each a bit larger.Stormy and I just took the larger halves over to Darwins. Knocked on the door a couple or times but decided they were asleep so left the sack in front of the doior. Called when I got home and he had found them.. Said they finished theirs yesterday. It was a seedless watermelon - pretty good but just not as good as the ones with seeds.
I usually cut the cantaloupe and peel it and put it in the refrigerator ready to eat.We used to raise a lot of melons and I would often take half a cantaloupe to work for lunch and put either cottage cheese or ice cream in the middle. Still would like to find an Orange watermelon. I bought one a couple of years ago and it was $12. Daddy raised melons one year and a semi came in and bought them for fifty cents each. That was probably 70 years ago. They weighed some of them and I remember sitting on one that weighed 80 pounds. Probably Black.Diamonds.
Ron or Carl, I think one.of you said the best way to eat a watermelon is to break one open in the patch and take out the heart with your fingers and eat it. I wholly agree - have done that many times. Same with tomatoes -pick one off the vine, wipe it off and eat like an apple.
Filled the water tank this morning just as the girls were coming in. Funny the way the babies will stop and watch me as I talk to them. I can ask one of the cows where her baby is and she will turn around and look for it. Years ago we had a cow we called Freckles, red white faced with tiny red spots on her face. She had her calf in tall grass in the meadow and Charles and I were looking for it. We would ask her where it was and she would take off one way - opposite from where the calf was. She didn't want us to find it. I.guess once you've raised cattle and took care of them, you never forget it and always miss them. I'm glad they're home. So sorry I have been so loquacious this morning.

Lorita, I never heard of the Mission for Creek Freedmen, but I was aware that some Indigenous people enslaved Black Americans and that some some enslaved Black Americans escaped and sought refuge among the Indigenous people. The stories must be fascinating. I wouldn't mind visiting that museum if I ever returned to Oklahoma.
Modern casinos can be fun places to visit, with many activities besides gambling in a smoke-filled arena. The one I visit in Laughlin has a bowling alley, a movie theater, a classic car museum, as well as local entertainment , karaoke, a swimming pool, fitness center, gift shop and restaurants. It's a nice get-away for a day or a weekend or a few days.
I'm getting a slow start this morning, even though it's already afternoon.

Iris…Oklahoma is filled with wonderful museums. Check this one out
Desk is cleared off…all paper filed and I have some cooked ribs in the frig and will cook a potato to go with it.
Rooting for Norway this afternoon…..

Who are they playing? Is this the final or semi?
Iris, in Claremore there is a Will Rogers Museum that is really worth seeing.

Went to see the man who buys loads of veggies from the Amish farmers and sells them retail on a strip mall parking lot. I could smell ripe cantaloupe as soon as I opened the car door, so I now have cantaloupe to go with the rest. Then I bought sweet corn from a farmer who sells from the parking lot of the Methodist church just outside town. You just can't beat fresh fruits and vegetables.
DS is here for the weekend and wanted pizza, so we had pizza for dinner. Sort of an antidote to all the healthy food I'm eating 😉
Lorita, don't worry about being loquacious. Your tales of country, cattle and cantaloupe take me right back home, and I love them.

Lorita…England …quarter finals…tied 1-1

Sorry about the outcome of the game, Judith. I watched the last 15 minutes. I laughed when either an announcer or a coach said " at least Norway showed people how to row a boat". I enjoyed watching the syncronized rowing.
Thanks, Carl, sometimes I.do tend to go on about the farm. I have lived on the farm all but about two Years of my.life with those two years spread out over the part of my life when I was much younger. I was born in our front bedroom and.hoped I never have to leave.
Carl, is all the flooding in Missouri east.of you and Ron, toward St. Louis? It looks terrible with people hanging onto trees or on top of their house.
Enjoy the sweet.corn. We used to raise Kandy Korn and it was so sweet and good. You know the easiest way to cook it besides boiling? Put butter.on it and wrap tightly in waxed.paper, twisting the ends tightly and microwave it.. Can't remember.how long but we did that often. Works.really well on corn you have frozen, too.
Several.Oklahoma counties are under a severe thunderstorm watch - not out county but two just West of us are. Been uber hot here today. I watched an interesting show this afternoon about Belle Star. She wss from your part.of the world, Carl, until she moved to Indian Territory. There's a Belle Start marina on Lake Eufaula. Never been there.
Sleep well tonight, everyone.

There was some flooding here, Lorita, in the low places such as creek and river crossings, because we had a thunderstorm last night with quite a bit of rain. It has pretty well passed. The serious flooding is in the flatlands in SE MO.
I'll try that with the sweet corn. I have shucked and frozen it, because I will only eat about one ear at a time and I have a baker's dozen.
You sleep well too. I slept well last night, despite being awakened several times by thunder and lightning.

Lorita, I join Carl in saying how much I enjoy hearing about your farm life. I live on a little wanna-be-farm and wish we had cattle.

Iris thank you for the tour. I will remember it next time we travel that way. I remember the Mad Libs my brother used to do them when we were kids. Zoltar - DW and I found this same machine in Vegas. Somewhere I still have our fortunes from him. 😅 I want one of those candied apples. Feel like I took a mini trip with you.

You may get more rain and storms tonight, Carl. I just checked the radar and storms are lined up from NW to SE across NE Okla.- not sure which way they're going. Weather says they're having heavy rain in Tulsa- 2.5" already with street flooding. Not here yet. Try the microwave thing with your corn - just like fresh corn.
Thanks, Goodlife, I'll try not to bore everyone.

I repotted my ficus two years ago into what I will consider its forever pot (because I am never doing that again )😏. I had to actually break the old pot with a hammer as it would never have come loose otherwise. I did it outside and had help. I needed to do it for quite awhile before I could get to it so I bought myself some time with fertilizer often for about 6 months before I could get it done.
I keep my ficus inside only. It used to go outside for the spring/summer months but became too big. It lived in my office for 10 years and loved it. That is where I repotted it and now that I am retired it is in my home. A little overwhelming and only about 4ft tall. Thinking I may see if a company that provides plants for offices may want it.
