Judith, you should always look at your tires to be sure they aren't low before you go anywhere. The newer cars have an icon that tells you if a tire is low and shows you which tire. In cooler weather the tires need more pressure because in summer the heat builds up the pressure so you can have less air then.
0 -
A tire will lose about a pound a month for no reason. Then the pressure drops when the temperature drops. Tires will last longer and driving will be safer if we check the pressure every month while the tires are cool and add air as needed. There is a sticker on the door frame of the driver's door that tells you what pressure you should use. It is different from the pressure rating printed on the tire itself. A tire might need one pressure on my Subaru while the same tire might need a different pressure if it was mounted on a Honda, for example. At the same time, we should check the oil and fill the windshield washer. If one tire is several pounds lower than the others, it has a leak and should be repaired.
Full moon tonight. It was really pretty when it set this morning, a golden orb shining through the trees.

I knew where all those things were to check in my old car but not in my new car of 8 years. I let the mechanics check when I take it in for servicing. I know I should know how to do these checks.
I rested all day today. Yesterday I went to the church Craft Fair and I won a $25 gift card. I bought two snap bracelets with the gift card. My friends got some Christmas decorations and some air plants. We went to The Cheesecake Factory for lunch and of course had cheesecake, but five of us shared one slice. Then we went to Goodwill and I bought books. Tomorrow starts another week.

Good morning. I'm up early and it's still dark despite a bright full moon. The Hunter's Moon.
Carl— A real pumpkin on a vintage milk jug sounds charming.
I loved Murder by Death— the actors seemed to really be enjoying themselves in their roles.
Beth— That looks like an amazing road trip. I enjoyed coming along via the photographs.
Judith— Proper tire pressure also improves mileage which is especially important given current fuel costs.

My aunt called me the other evening to tell me she canceled her trip to visit mom because she's got pneumonia. There was some viral bug circulating in her condo building, she got it and it set up shop in her lungs which is unusual for her. At 91, aside from her AMD, she's in remarkable shape. She's staying away from mom which I appreciate, but she kept talking about getting better because of "the wedding".
Turns out the granddaughter of her recently passed boyfriend is getting married Friday night to be followed by a weekend of Halloween entertainment on the Northshore of MA which is to say Salem adjacent. Both auntie and her beau lived most of their adult lives in Salem through they never met until they each moved to the condo to simplify their lives. The punchline is that auntie is in the wedding. In lieu of flower girls, they're having flower ladies— the groom's two grandmothers and auntie will be strewing petals along with aisle. When I was a young kid, one of my favorite things was raiding auntie's closet for dress-up as she must've had 25 bridesmaids' dresses between her sisters and many friends. When the minister marrying my cousin was late to her rehearsal, auntie stepped in and took over citing her extensive experience in the matter. I bet she didn't have wedding attendant on her BINGO card this year.
I hope all have a pleasant day.

Good morning!
I'm missing Mint lately. My thought as to her absence is that when she came here, she was in crisis due to her mom's condition. Then, things got easier for her when her mom was placed. Thus, no need to be here.
I also came when my mom and me were in crisis due to her dementia. She passed away about 10 years ago. I'm still here because I have developed online friends here. 😊
HB, have you been to Falling Water (Frank Lloyd Wright house in PA)? I bought a book called "The Houses" after our trip to Taliesin. It's over 500 pages of FLW homes. I look forward to perusing it.
Sorry about your auntie, HB, but glad she was wise and didn't meet with your mom and chance her becoming sick. The wedding plans sound…..interesting.
GG, I believe your surgery is this week. I hope and pray all goes well. You will so enjoy better vision. Will you no longer need glasses or contact lenses? Do you have a few more days to get to the gym beforehand?
Iris, I loved seeing the Halloween decor in your neighborhood! Thanks for sharing.
Carl, I enjoyed seeing the kangaroos. Years ago I was privileged to travel to Australia and NZ and got to feed some. Also petted a koala. Later, I'll see if I can find photos of these animals with me.
HB, I am so glad that you are now able to get out and hike. Sounds like your new knee is working well! I'm happy for you.
Hello to Zetta, Judith, Lorita, Carl, Sandwich, GoodLife, Eagle and everyone else here. Sorry if I missed naming you personally.
Beth

@BethL
I've not been to Falling Water. It's all the way on the other side of the state; I'm about 6 miles away from NJ. That said, DH and I did tour a modest FLW home when we were looking for our first home. We were both intrigued by the idea of buying what was essentially a work of art but, TBH, the design wasn't really livable (I like closets) and the location wasn't great (on a smallish suburban lot that required curtains and had noise from the interstate). I've also been to the synagogue he designed for the funeral of a friend's dad. I also driven through Suntop in Ardmore which is his as well.

Morning, had a rather scary morning. Billy was nowhere to be seen. He's usually out front. So took down some mail and drove around the road to the MH, across from the girls.but no Billy. Came back and went to he barn and there he was - guess he slept in. Fed.him and.he enjoyed the molasses coated grain..
I saw the little.black cat -guess:I will Call him Midnight. Used to have a black cat we called Midnight. Also saw The squirrel so everyone is accounted for today.
Forgot all about the tires. I used to ave an air gauget- must be in the PU. Wil do that later. Meth I have always thought koalas are the cutest little things. I bet getting to pet one was a thrill.
If some weird word gets posted, it might be my tablet. Seems it had developed a mind of its own.
Darn, missed the full moon last night, Carl. Will look tonight.

Tires…I will pay more attention. Luckily Hibdon's is on my plateau.
Falling Water…oh how I would love to see it.

You know when I was in Business College I had a teacher named Fallingwater. Hadn't thought of that in years.

Good morning.
Thanks for the kangaroo pictures. I don't think I've ever seen one in person or even in a photograph.

Two cuties, Beth!
I used to attend a Frank Lloyd Wright church in Kansas City, but they built an addition and he made them remove his name.

Cuties.for sure, Beth. Is his hair as soft as it looks?

Carl - I'd never heard of the band Murder by Death either, but that song is a good one. It's a little bit country.
I saw the movie Murder by Death and loved it - it was really funny. Great cast. It kinda reminds me of The House of the Long Shadows …. one of those "spend the night in a haunted house and get a prize" movies. It was really funny too. It had Christopher Lee, John Carradine, Peter Cushing, Vincent Price (chewing every single piece of scenery he could get his hands on), and Desi Arnaz Jr. as he guy who has to spend the night in the house.
Beth - your photos are great. I especially love the fireplace at the FLW house. The merry go round is cool too. And the koala bear is adorable.
My first cataract surgery is this Wednesday. I've started on the eye drops already. I worked out with my trainer today, and I'll get tomorrow as well. Then I'm banished from the gym for awhile.
HB - I hear you about the darkness in the morning. I woke up at 8am and it was barely light outside.
I'm laughing about your aunt being a "flower lady". It's kind of over the top, but not in a bad way.
Lorita - a new little kitty cat! 🙂
I've been trying to get things done before I'm out of commission for awhile. I think I have all of the house things in order now.
I also wanted to get all of the changes made to the blog - substituting all of the text that the lawyer wanted changed, as well as changing the names of various people to protect their privacy. I got all of that finished up this afternoon. Now all I have to do is the rest of the permissions for the rest of the folks, but that doesn't require extensive computer screen time, so I can do it during my enforced rest.
A few days ago I got a very pleasant surprise. Someone I used to work with back in my UC Santa Cruz days tracked me down. So we got to catch up. That was really nice. Now that we both know where we both live, I can stop by and visit on my way down to the Bay Area - she's kind of on the way.
Now I have to go get more eye drops. Death Guild is later on tonight.

Beth: Ahh, how cute! I've never seen a koala, thanks for posting.

I bought a bottle of Head Country BBQ sauce and it is really good. I like also that it is made by a company in Ponca City while KC Masterpiece was long ago bought by Kraft, and that HC, unlike KCM, isn't sweetened with high fructose corn syrup. I'm a convert. Thanks for telling me about it.
The koalas reminded me of the Teddy bear trade at the senior center. An old man buys TBs at thrift stores and yard sales and brings them to SC to give to old women. Some of the recipients carry them around and sometimes give them to one another as precious gifts. You don't have to be a little nuts to hang out at SC, but if you are it will be well tolerated (I fit right in). Various stages of dementia are on display in some cases.

Good morning. Sunny and seasonal today. C&P until Monday. This is my kind of boring.
Lorita— I wonder if Fallingwater is an anglicized indigenous name. My idiot semi-ex-BIL's mom's dad was Lenape. She was born a Broadwater.
Carl— I remember reading about FLW and the KC church. It makes me wonder why they didn't commission him or one of his protégés to do the addition's design. Probably money.
It's nice that the SC is so accepting a place. It's kind of the opposite of middle school. When I cleaned out my folks' place in FL ahead of the sale, I found bags and bags of stuffies of all kinds— mostly bears. Mom explained that dad, by then in the middle stages at least, had taken to buying them at yard sales and thrift stores. There were always a few there when I visited and it was such an odd choice given their previous hard-core Danish modern preferences.
Beth— The koala is cute. Normally you see pictures of them weeing on members of the British royal family on tour. This was a nice change.
Gothic G— It must feel great to be wrapping up the loose ends on the blog.

My new glasses came and I hated the frame. It's a torti frame with cream and brown and the pair they sent had one side cream and one white— not mixed at all. I took them back and they popped my lenses into the pair in the display. Much better. Even more important, I'm seeing better out of them. My eyes were watering so badly during my 2025 exam I don't think the prescription was ever accurate. I hope these help a bit with glare. I drove home from a friend's house Saturday, and it was glarier than ever.
Mom's got a haircut today and then she wants to shop for glasses. That part should be fun anyway. Her prescription hasn't changed much, but she wants a larger lens than she currently has.
I hope the outing improves her mood. Last night on the phone she was talking nonsense about getting rid of her summer clothes because she won't be here next summer. She claims her doctors told her she's going to die soon. They did not. We did ask about what the progression of pulmonary hypertension with CHF and COPD looked like. He couldn't and didn't give a timeline of any kind, but he did explain using hospice to relieve the anxiety around poor breathing. Mom has a lot of wacky ideas about hospice including the notion that once you're on hospice, they no longer feed you. I reminded her that my late MIL was "on hospice" for 5 1/2 years and that she absolutely ate food.
I hope all have a safe and pleasant day.

GG…please let us know when you are back home tomorrow

Morning, another five star day. The Hackberry trees are glorious this morning with the sunshine on the yellow leaves. These trees are huge. If it doesn't rain or freeze or have high wind they will peak in a couple of days. I don't remember them ever being so pretty. There are dozens of them on the farm and are my favorite tree.
Flu shot today at 3 at the Health Dept. Will get covid shot later.

Hi, slow day on thr porch, guess everyone is out enjoying the weather. Got my flu shot this afternoon and my arm is sore. Put some ice on it and will again tonight. Stormy went with me. Left him in car with AC going while I went in to get my shot. He is a regular gadabout - two trips to town in four days.
Darwin's wife fell this afternoon into broken glass. She's in the hospital tonight.but is okay.
GG, hope everything goes well tomorrow. Will be thinking about you with good thoughts.
Time for bed, good night.

Carl - I always read the labels too - and avoid high fructose corn syrup. Good to know about Head Country BBQ sauce.
HB - I hope your glasses work out for you. I usually get plain silvery frames. What matters most to me is that they're by Flexon. I'm hard on glasses, and those bend, but they don't break. I wonder if I'll be able to ditch them after my surgeries?
Judith - I'll let you guys know. I was told that it'll be up to six hours before I'll be able to see out of that eye, so crossing my fingers that by dinnertime I'll be able to see.
Lorita - Thank you! I appreciate that. I took a picture for you of my eye drops chart, along with my little check marks. I know you were kind of wondering how to keep track. It's pretty straightforward, so when you get ready to do it, you can not worry about that.
I went to the gym today, and my trainer gave me all of my favorite exercises to do since It'll be weeks before I get to do them again: windshield wipers, the earthquake bar, leg presses, dead lifts, and my last bout of boxing for awhile. I was pleasantly tired out when I was done.
Last night at Death Guild — the drink special was in honor of Mr. Checkov (Walter Koenig) from Star Trek. He passed away over the weekend at age 90.
From The DNA Lounge site: The drink special tonight at DG is NUCLEAR WESSELS (RIP Chekov) - Belvedere Vodka, Soda, Splash of Bitters, Lime
I love their sense of humor. 🙂
Okay, I'm out. Think good thoughts for me around 9:30am Pacific Time.

GG, I read about Walter Koenig (RIP). He was so authentic. Best wishes for your surgery tomorrow!
Lorita, I hope your arm doesn't hurt too much.

Good morning. I'm up too early and it's still dark here. It should be a nice day though. Cloudy but dry with a high in the mid-60s. I hope I can get a decent walk in later.
Lorita— I have to google hackberry tree. They likely grow around these parts, but I've never noticed them. The fall foliage is gorgeous. Do yours flower as well?
I hope your arm feels better today. I got both jabs at once and less than 1" apart which left my arm tender. Sleeping on it actually made it hurt less.
How did Darwin's poor wife get into broken glass? Did she drop something in a fall? I hope she's on the mend as well. That must've been upsetting all around.
Ron— Good morning to you. You're up early today.
Iris— There were many tributes to Walter Koenig floating around. George Takai's was especially touching. Star Trek was so influential and ahead of its time. The original series only ran for 3 seasons.
Carl— I try to avoid corn syrup sweeteners; that stuff pops up in odd products. I have an old cookbook with some BBQ sauce recipes which I've made when I have the time but then I have to hunt down the ketchup made with real sugar.
Beth— My aunt seems to be rebounding nicely. I'm sure she'll be up for her turn as a "flower lady" on Friday. TBH, I suspect she's really just having second thoughts about traveling down from Boston. She's in amazing shape for her age, but she is 92 and struggles mightily with AMD and essential tremor.
Gothic G— All the best vibes today for your surgery. I love that your doc provided you with a chart to track your medication. DH's didn't so I had to go into Excel and create one ahead of time. It'll be 10 years since DH had his surgeries; the old protocol was ridiculous. FTR, he is a man who cannot instill his own eyedrops. He had meds 3 days prior and 28 post-surgeries with 4 different drops in one eye and 5! in the other. And the 2 eyes overlapped for a little over 2 weeks. It was a whole thing.
Love the DG's cheeky sense of humor.

Yesterday was a mom-day. She had a haircut at 1:30 and then I took her to pick out new glasses. She really liked my new ones which have since been taken off the display luckily for me. She wanted larger lenses than her current pair but kept picking pairs that were way too big for her face which kind of made her look like "Edna Mode" (a character based on designer Edith Head from Pixar's The Incredibles). The optician talked her into a greenish frame that was quite trendy that looks really great on her.
She was not having a "good breathing day". She was as winded as I've have ever seen her. At the optician's she was willing to sit and have frames brought to her; normally she would have been bouncing around trying on everything. After, we walked 4 stores down to pick up a fried chicken dinner for her and she was so beat I turned up her oxygen and I brought the car to the curb to pick her up.
I need to work on picking a Medigap policy for next year today, but I think I might spend some time there tomorrow. She's torn her closets apart and doesn't have the energy to finish swapping everything out. Speaking of Medigaps— does anyone have any wisdom to share in terms of what works for them? DH's retirement plan used to come with options but won't next year so this is a first for me.Be safe out there.

I'm glad Darwin's wife was in a place in which people could immediately get medical attention for her. I feared for her on the farm, possibly having an injury while Darwin was in the field.
One of my friends is 92 and experiencing dementia. Her niece and her doctor are trying to persuade her to move from living alone to an assisted living facility, but she refuses, preferring to remain in her incredibly cluttered house in a sketchy neighborhood. I worry about her but there's nothing I can do about it.
Best wishes for your surgery, GG.
HB, you're good to your mother. She raised you right.
No big plans for here today. It's 57 and sunny, with 80 degrees predicted for later. Nice day to walk outside. Hope all of you have pleasant days.

Morning another beautiful.day but with a little wind. If possible the Hackberry trees are more beautiful today. There ate three north of he house that are almost totally yellow. There is a line of them West of the house that are.barely turning. HB I have never seen a bloom on any of our trees. The only fruit I have ever seen are tiny, hard berries not edible except for maybe birds. But they are strong, beautiful trees that are great for shade.
My arm.is a.bit sore but not bad at all. I did put some ice on it last evening. Guess I will have to get the covid shot at WM since health dept. isn't giving them. Also need to get a tetanus shot since I.get scratched by cats and sometimes on gates or wire.
From what Darwin said Donna must have knocked something glass over when she fell that cut her. She did hit her head so probably why the hospital kept her overnight. When I called about 9:30 this morning I heard people in the room so.guess they had just brought her back. Told him I would call later.
Anxious to hear from GG.later today or tomorrow. I got the nearest writing pen from National Federation of the Blind , one of my charities, yesterday. A pen with a light on the end to light up where you are writing. I used it yesterday filling out the form at he Health Dept. I found them on WM and ordered another one.
Time for The Waltons. If any of you watch it, have you noticed the girls dressing up and wearing heels at home? I never have done that.
