I think all wills must go through probate which probably makes them more able to be contested. A Trust does not go through probate. Using Been Verified and/or Ancestry or Family search may be an inexpensive way to locate relatives.

muggy and hot for north central Ohio, but not rainy.

Jerilynn your poor husband. He must be miserable, but keeps pushing. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad. I tend to do that too and sometimes I wish I hadn’t. I hope he’s able to find some relief before too long. Chronic pain becomes wearisome sometimes.

Zetta I hope things continue to go smoothly for you. I know all that is a bit stressful.

Beth I saw where Iowa was having storms again. Your friend is one industrious lady. I hope to buy tomatoes to make some tomato sauce. May do that this week or next week. What always amazes me Beth is with all that mud if you don’t get rain for just a week or so, it’ll be dry again.

David do you eat your bologna raw or do you like it fried. I like it fried with mustard. I limited myself to one sandwich a year but I haven’t even had that at least in a couple years I don’t think.

I see my yellow butterfly is back in the flower garden. About every time I get a chance to look out there it’s out there. I don’t think a butterfly has a real long lifespan. They’re pretty fragile. Who knows it might not be the same one.

My nephew that I fix breakfast for left yesterday for a two week vacation in Thailand. I hope he enjoys it and he’s blessed with a safe trip. He left yesterday evening and at the first airport he met a lady who lives in the US but is from a different country and was flying back there to visit family. They helped each other when they got to the next airport and so that was great. He had a partner. Then they ate supper together and then she left on her flight so I thought that was very nice. I felt like God provided her for him. He sent me up with Snapchat app and has communicated with me a little bit. Has kept his mom up pretty good and she passes it onto me and that’s nice. He should he starting the last leg of the journey 10 minutes ago. It’s about a seven hour flight and then he should be in Thailand. I hope things go well for him. It would be good for him I think. Due to his ADHD, and the issues with it he’s been slapped down a lot as we say. He has improved so much in the past year. I saw a few little signs of his ADHD though the last two mornings I fed him and he mentioned to me that he was a little anxious about the airports. I know the first two airports went well. The third one was in a foreign country, and as far as I can tell it went well for him to , I’m so very thankful for that . That’s an awfully long flight. He did mention to his mom that the delays bother his ADHD. That put her a little bit on edge. But I told her he’s gotten to the age now where he’s dealing with it better and gave her a couple examples. I think he did well planning his vacation. He looked for countries that were considered safe to go to you checked out what was said about the airports he registered with the US Embassy. He just really was amazing a year ago he could’ve not have done this is mom helped him with the mom things lol. I think he’s glad she did though because the travel agent kind of backed up mom, mom was telling him right. Maybe she knew that would also make mom rest better.

Lorita I think that’s a good idea to stay out of the heat if you can. I wanted to scrub off some more of the siding this afternoon because I finally have time I’m caught up today believe it or not. But it’s very hot and muggy just on the porch so I think the wiser choice for me would be to stay in the house. It’ll still be there next year if I don’t get it done this year.

Judith, how very kind of you to go to the funeral if it works out for you. That’s very kind.

    Good afternoon-

Warm and dry here again. We supposedly got 0.2" overnight but that'll be it until Friday evening. Maybe. Of late, storm break up over the center part of the state and slide north or south of us.

I need to dop off a check to the sewer authority and pick up a couple things for dinner. Sheet pan nachos tonight. Not my favorite, but easy and both boys enjoy them.

Zetta— congratulations of the sale and new digs. I hope you have an uneventful trip to AZ when the time comes.

David— listen to your wife on this. Even if the bologna wasn't recalled (and 2 varieties were— BH beef and BH lower fat), the slicers and deli shelving could be contaminated as listeria is a fairly robust "bug". The list of recalls keeps growing and it'll take time to get the deep cleaning needed done along the entire supply chain. Given your location, how about a Fluffernutter or a chop suey sandwich instead?

JeriLynn— I am awfully sorry about this new wrinkle. Ugh.

Karen— I am sorry about the loss of your dear friend.

Beth— I wish I had a big trip coming up. DH and I are considering a quick trip to Europe of the Carribean for our anniversary next year so long as mom and DS are in stable condition and the house doesn't need some sort of spendy repair between now and then.

PA's standard drivers license is not considered Real ID so we couldn't fly domestically if they don't extend the deadline again. I could convert our licenses to Real ID compliant for $30/each by producing the more paperwork than I need to renew an old passport and dealing with the DMV on a walk-in basis. Or I can get the passport now by making an appointment at the county prothonotary's office. Basically, I'm paying $100 extra to avoid the DMV.

Hello my porch friends. With this unrelenting heat several of us are dealing with, I've turned on the ceiling fans on the porch. I also added several portable box fans to at least keep the air moving! I'm thinking I might have to add mister's on a timer next. We can't have anyone getting overheated!!

Lorita you ask if we were having humidity, the answer is a resounding yes. The temp is 100 with heat index 110 right now, ugh. In the middle of the afternoon's I've been running the sprinkler under the tree on a very low setting for the squirrels and birds. I look out and they are all just hanging out in the water trying to cool off as best they can.

Karen welcome to the porch. I'm in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex area. I can't remember how long I've been on here, but my DH is coming up on year 13 of his diagnosis, so probably 13 years.

Everyone be careful out there, the heat will get you before you know it.

Eagle, it has been hot here today. Temp was 100 with heat index of over 110 but there was wind which will be practically absent tomorrow. I have stayed inside after being out this morning ,, took a nice long nap.
I need to water the few things I have in containers but have to wade through tall grass to turn the water on. With my experience with snakes I will need to wear boots. I haven't been Rusty in a long time. Guess he has moved on to greener pastures. I might mention, the grass in the yard is just about all there is on the farm. Eagle, how sweet of you to keep the sprinklers on for the squirrels and birds. I know they appreciated it.
I feel so sorry for the people and animals who have to be outside in this heat. You know you bale hay when it's hot but the tractors are air conditioned now and not many small bales so even hauling it in Isn't like it u sed to be.
Saturday I bought a big container of cottage cheese, opened it tonight and the plastic on top was bulging . Exp. . Date is 8-9 and it looked and tasted good. Alexa says it probably is if it looks and tastes and smells okay. Keep your fingers crossed! No have watched some of the olympics today. Amazing what they can do. Guess I'll watch more tonight.
I have an AC in the utility room at the West end of the house and one in the bedroom on the south. The temp in the LR is 68-69, much cooler in the bedroom and bath and a little cooler in the kitchen. I have a big 220 one in the LR but it is so noisy. Pretty.old but not used much. I really don't like to sleep with the AC on but I am these days .
Joan, where are you? Hope things are going okay with you. I saw it was 100 in Denver yesterday. please post so we know you're okay. Jo, same with you. Hope you're feeling better.
My dry eyes are really bad this hot weather. I am ready for fall but we still have up to two more months of hot weather. Talked with Jerry, my BIL today in the Texas Panhandle. He's 94, lives by himself (two daughters nearby) and doing well. Says it is hot there, too. Climate change is upon us! Sleep well tonight- see you all tomorrow.
Judith, hope it worked out so you are able to attend the service tomorrow. Todd is looking forward to seeing you.

I went out and watered the three planters, one Althea that is very old, three roses and a flowering almond. Oh, also filled the water tank in the lot. Girls are drinking a lot of water. It was almost dark and brought back memories of when I was growing up. Nights like this, when it had cooled off a little and there was a good breeze, after the day's work and supper we would sit on the front porch and talk. Those times are gone thanks to AC and tv but I still have the memories of those evenings. Does anyone else remember those times?

    Good morning everyone.

Lorita i dont have those memories. I do have memories of sitting on the porch either in the swing or the glider with my grandpa swatting flies. LOL. I only remember my grandpa as a very old man and very hard of hearing. He always called me Sadel. I remember him paring raw turnips and sharing them with me. I liked them OK. He always smoked, and he lived to be right around 100 years old. Sometimes he smoked a pipe, other times he rolled his cigarettes, and sometimes he smoked lucky strikes. So of course I wanted to smoke too. So he would take a brown paper sack and he had some kind of a little weed he gathered, and he would roll it up in that and I would smoke it. Thank goodness I didn’t do that very much. I have very good memories from a lot of older people as a child.

my nephew made it to Thailand safely. I’m very thankful for that. seems like he found people to talk to you along the way from all different countries.

Lorita I see a lot of those yellow grasshoppers here. But they don’t bother anything in my yard that I notice. What is really been bad this year and seems to of lasted much longer than normal is Japanese beetles. They really defoliate things.

A good afternoon to those on the porch.

Knocking things off my to-do list today. I rounded my peeps up to get their passport pictures taken and now DS and I will go pick up the tile for the bathroom project. It’s only about 11 boxes, but the total weight is about 240lbs.

Lorita,A Fluffernutter (sorry I spelled it wrong) is marshmallow and peanut butter on bread. it is hard to what a Chop Suey is but I will try.It is made of

Chicken or pork, bean sprouts, celery, onions and soy based gravey and served on a hamburg bun. It is delicious. It is unique to New England It was invented in Salem. If you can when in New England try one

Hello Friends, I'm pleased to report our builder came and took care of getting our gutters fixed and porch columns/pillars put up - 3 months post tornado. Big sigh of relief. Still more needing done but glad things are happening, finally.

Went swimming this afternoon at a friend's. She offers up her pool for us "girls" every Thursday, basically May to September. So fun. Lots of good conversation, lots of good ladies - most of us are church friends.

We went to the movie Twisters yesterday. It was good.

Thinking of you all, prayers for every one of you, especially those who are ill or grieving. JoC, miss hearing from you.

Beth, sounds like you had fun day. In Twisters are there cows flying through the air like in the original one? Glad you got the gutters fixed On the news today it said a couple of Oklahoma towns hit by tornados were having trouble with insurance paying for damage.

David, since I'm a vegetarian guess I'll have to pass on the sandwiches. Guess marshmallow fluff could be used since it doesn't have gelatin. I do love peanut butter and banana or jelly sandwiches though.

    Good night, everyone.

    good morning everyone

David I hope you get to feeling better

Judith I’m glad you took care of your self to. Heat is dangerous at some levels. It was pretty warm and humid here yesterday for our area. I would work out like 15-20 minutes and then I came in the house for a while before I would go out and work a little bit again that worked pretty good.

I do like peanut butter and marshmallow . I have never called it a flutternutter though. I have not had one in a long time.
Have never had or heard of a chop Suey sandwich though. Would definitely be willing to try one though.

Beth I know it has to feel good to start getting some of that stuff taken care of from the tornado.

We got thunderstorms last night and got 2 1/4 inches of rain. We sure did need the rain so I’m very thankful for it. I’m thinking that my stuff that was starting to look bad will be OK because it had just started looking bad, so I think it should recover nicely. They are giving a chance of more thunderstorms this evening.. hopefully this will help the farmers out here in our area. The corn has been looking really nice.

I got a really nice pineapple tomato yesterday. It is an heirloom type but it’s not sweet, it’s more acidic , so I probably will not raise it again next year. It does have several tomatoes on it, all sizes. The Brandywine is a really good tomato in my opinion but the problem is it does not give you very many tomatoes. There’s just like three or four tomatoes on mine and I don’t see any little ones setting on. I’ve seen other people complain on this that do a lot more gardening than me so I guess it’s not just me. One of them is starting to ripen. My cherry tomato is loaded so that keeps me in plenty of tomatoes for salads so I have enough tomatoes. Will never raise mountain spring tomato again. In fact, I’m going to cut the one that I have off And throw it away. It should’ve been named disappointment. There’s lots of tomatoes and they’re beautiful looking but they’re very firm and they have absolutely no flavor, acidic or sweet. It’s tasteless.

Going to the Amish farm today if nothing happens. They usually have some heirloom tomatoes for sale. I might start trying some of theirs.

Morning! Been up since 1:30 this morning, just not able to sleep. Preacher came over yesterday and I enjoyed the visit. Council on aging has activities Monday through Thursday; bingo, bean bag baseball and visits from several organizations with information to assist seniors. I need to try and go often!

Received a email from Winstar offering me two free nights, free slit play, two free buffets and other perks good from now till August 28th. Didn't realize I lost that much money 😕. LOL

I just typed up then lost my comment when trying to add a photo. First time that happened to me.

Ron, there are people who gamble so much in casinos on cruise ships that they get free cruises. Glad you have the senior center; socialization is good for you and I imagine they have nice nutritious meals as well.

Lorita, there are no flying cows in Twisters. There are flying people, though!

Mint, that yellow tomato is a beauty! Do you grow in bags or the ground? I am growing a volunteer grape tomato from my compost, 3 Jet Star and 2 Cherokee Purple. The C.P. are heirlooms that are purplish. The tops are often not attractive. I will post photos so you can see. They taste good and the vines have abundant numbers of them. I don't like cutting the tops off as I lose a lot of tomato - I probably won't grow them again. The Jet Star are a hybrid - medium sized, taste good, don't seem prone to disease in my experience. I have grown them for years. I have 4 little white pumpkins on my pumpkin growing in the compost. I hope they all make it.

Good morning People of the Porch.

David— My mom's family is from Melrose. I was born in there and lived in Gloucester (Wingaersheek area) until I was 2 and spent my summers there until I was a teenager. DH went to grad school in Cambridge, so we're both fond of the area and try to visit when we can get away. Our tastes run more towards fried clams and lobster rolls. My mom and aunt insisted on taking me to Salem Willows for my first ever chop suey sandwich last time I was up for a funeral. It was way better than I would have guessed.

Judith— the 12 boxes was more like 12 units— 6 boxes of wall tile, bags of grout, caulk, bullnose bundles.

Beth— Oh the irony of watching "Twisters" as your builder completes repairs damage on your home from— wait for it— a twister.

Ron— good for you getting out. My friend who lost her husband a year ago needs to get out of the house at least once daily to be out among people even if it's just through the drive-thru for iced tea or a sundae. She gets really fretful if she can't.

Lorita— take it easy in the heat today.

Mint— that's a fine-looking tomato, pity it disappoints on flavor. I have a friend who grows Brandywine; I've not heard her complain about yield. She also returns each year to Early Girls and cherry tomatoes. I'm not sure how much she plants anymore as I haven't been gifted anything but cherry tomatoes in the last couple years.

I used to get my tomatoes from a grower whose dad and grandfather grew a proprietary variety for Campbells decades ago. They were amazing— very few seeds and intensely flavored. Alas, he became disabled and hasn't sold tomatoes in years. His son and daughter both attended the local agricultural college, but neither seems to have taken over. Pity. DS and I stopped at a local orchard's store yesterday— they had some nice Lancaster County tomatoes. They look like the same ones I bought at the other orchard last week. A number of these farms and orchards work almost like a co-op trading varieties to offer a better range of fruits and veggies.

I have no plans today. I should probably check in on my mom.

Hi ,HB I love my Chop Suey sandwiches (they are excellent) but I do prefer Fried Clams the best but they have to have the bellies no strips. I am not a great Lobster lover but I know a lot of people like them

When I was in the Navy I was stationed in Florida people could believe that I ate fried clams they thought they were disgusting.

Morning, fried claims and all of that is foreign to this country girl. Just give me some brown beans, fried okra and cornbread and I'll be fine. Did try lobster once but didn't like it because it tasted sweet. We used to raise Early Girl and Delicious tomatoes which were delicious. Also an orange one that was really good. You know tomatoes will bloom in hot weather but won't set fruit until it gets cooler. All of the tomato and white pumpkin pictures are gorgeous. Makes me want to raise tomatoes.

It's cloudy this morning. A front came through and some places got rain but not us. I need to brush Sheena today, big job. I started to save her pretty soft, White hair to make a pillow and almost there. Nothing else planned today except staying inside except to check water tank. Hope everyone is well this morning..
