Carl, I.checked and the.majority of the cost for the.medicine for the GPs was pain medicine - $2.50 each and I got 30. I will give Sheena half of one each day so two months worth. Probiotics liquid was $15 a bottle and I got two. Nail Clippers were $17. I should have been a vet. That clinic is hopping from early to late with Mike doing surgeries before they open and after plus farm calls. He gets busier all the time.

The guys fed this morning and I saw.one of the trucks cone down farther north in the pasture. They must have seen something untoward and I'm wondering what it wss. That part of the pasture is just over a rise so couldn't see. I still have feelings and and concern for the girls, always will.

Weatherman just said it was in the 40s in eastern Okla. And 80s in the western part. Do not like this kind of weather.

Sandy, I am trying to.not watch MSNBC,- watched a little this morning and may watch Lawrence O'Donnell tonight. Hope you are well and your weather is good.

Yes, Zetta, I am tired, and I guess it shows.

Cucumbers will climb a trellis. I had a cucumber tree once when I planted a salad garden around a small dead tree. There is a book about small space gardens that shows you how to build a little box like a child's sandbox, fasten a trellis to one side, fill the box with soil, and plant every square inch with veggies. Tomatoes and cukes next to the trellis, other things in front of them. The book is called something like "Square Foot Gardening".

l think cats are beautiful, and most cats like me and climb in my lap after they get used to my presence. They are a little scary though, and I'll probably never live with one. My brother has asthma and is allergic to cats, but he loves them and keeps a couple in his home. When he was about four years old, he and another of my younger brothers adopted a kitten and brought it into the house after being denied permission to do so. I was lying on my back, just about asleep, when the kitten jumped onto the bed, landing on my stomach. I had no idea a cat was in the house and thought the world's largest spider had fallen from the ceiling! I came out of bed with a shriek, waking the whole house. My father hated being wakened by screams and didn't like being disobeyed, and it got ugly from there.

I saw a show on "Nature" tonight about big cats in a place in Africa where lions, leopards, and cheetahs share a habitat. The father lion had a dozen cubs with a pride of females and spent most of his time fighting single males who wanted to kill him and all his cubs so they could mate with the females. The leopard mom had two cubs and had to chase off their older sister so she wouldn't kill the cubs. The leopards had to run away from the lions, and the cheetahs had to run away from the lions and the leopards. It's a "cat eat cat" world out there.

DW and I are having our teeth cleaned tomorrow and it's getting late, so I'll climb off the porch and saunter home in the lamplight. Goodnight

I'm starting to slow down for the night ….

Carl - I had a friend who was also sort of afraid of cats. For her, it was their tails. She thought their tails made them look somewhat rodent like. I've had cats most of my life so I miss them when I don't have them. My two little Balinese cats were so friendly. They have dog-like personalities as it is - they'll follow you around the house, they'll come when you call them, and they generally want to be close to you at all times (but not in a neurotic way).

My thought about your acquaintance is similar to Mint's - he's probably been on a similar road at some point.

Beth - Himalayans are beautiful cats, but I know they can take a lot of work, brushing them and all. As I look at cat breeds Ragdolls stand out, mostly for their friendliness.

I love your photo being made to look like a painting! That's very cool.

That's a nice graduation photo of your mom.

HB - those kitties were Balinese, although in that photo Gamera looks more Siamese-y. They're not as chatty as Siamese can be.

Your mom's cat really does have resting bitch face! 😄 I'd forgotten all about resting bitch face. Thankfully, the video is still up on youtube.

    That's a lot of eggs to steal….

Lorita - I'm glad your labs are all okay.

I tend not to watch the news. Somehow I find it much more stressful watching it rather than reading about it. So if I'm looking for political news I'll go to Politico or Talking Points Memo (← for analysis). One of my guilty online pleasures is to go to Southern Living. So many good recipes.

Zetta - I love Sammy. He looks pensive in that photo. Aren't all the cat photos great? I love seeing everyone's cats.

I never heard of "resting bitch face", but I know what it is. Queen Elizabeth II called it "looking cross when I'm not." My face looks cross at rest too, plus I'm broad shouldered and am enough Cherokee to look Italian. Thanks to a century of gangster movies, people tend to think I look like the kind of guy who just might be carrying heat, and strangers don't often mess with me. Until I smile and start talking.

TV news runs what is sensational and what they have film of. They went to North Carolina a while back to interview people who were vacationing on the coast when a hurricane came in. Most people were running around shoving suitcases into cars, but the one whose interview they ran was having none of it. With trees whipping back and forth and the surf pounding, she said she had paid for two weeks and she was staying to get her money's worth, no matter what the weather did. Certain politicians know the stupidest things make the news and make a point of saying outrageous things frequently just to get their faces on TV.

That is a perfect picture of Sammy, Zetta. Worth framing, with that lovely background.

Cool Hand Luke ate 50 eggs. At $8/dozen, that comes to $33.33 plus tax and tip.

    Good morning

Beth, I hope you do enjoy it more. Yes good Lord willing I hope to raise a few things sort of like I did last year. I have ordered several tomato seeds. I will plant onions, several herbs and I’m thinking about a grow bag of potatoes, I’m not sure about the potatoes yet. I always grow some onions. Should have dill and cilantrohat’s easy and should come up on their own. Those two self sow very well. Then I will pray for the Amish to have a good growing season and that they can supply the other things for me to put up for the winter. Cucumbers are challenging I gave up on them. If you have the space possibly you could put several tomato cages side-by-side and if you need them taller, take another tomato cage, and zip tie one to the top of another one. I do that with my tomatoes. When they start getting close to the top of the cage, I take another cage turn it upside down and zip tie them together. I did not think of that I read that somewhere and it works pretty well.

HB I understand the quirks of ADHD, as you know my dear nephew has that along with dyslexia. I am not a fan of cats either I find them eerie. I do think some of them are pretty, but I just am not a fan.

Meanwhile the people of western North Carolina continue to suffer greatly, and the only reason I know this is because I have found a channel called The Appalachian channel with John Ward. If you go visit his channel you will see what those people are still enduring. I’m sure they’re still enduring in California too, but I only watch one channel out of California and it’s in northern California. I will tell you that John Ward‘s channel will warm your heart as the news will never do. Like GG I prefer to receive my infirmation from other sources.I would encourage you if you need encouragement to believe that there are people who care for one another to go watch his channel. It’s amazing and if you’re on Facebook, which I am not, if you would look up Precision Grading Saluda, North Carolina and you will see what he is doing and has been doing for months now He went through a rough patch recently but has been blessed to be able to go on, truly helping so many people. There are a few videos on John’s channel regarding him, that is how I found his website, which is actually Facebook. I am able to follow him a little bit every day what I can see on Facebook by not belonging. He gives a daily update and is very appreciative of all the volunteer help and donations he gets. Between himself and the volunteers and the donors it’s encouraging. That’s the only word I know for it. Check them both out if you would like your heart encouraged. The people who are there helping one another their generosity and love makes me want to be more like them.

We got about .15 inches of rain last night which froze. The temperature though has been increasing instead of decreasing so hopefully by nine or so. The roads will probably be clear and I’ll go to the grocery store. This afternoon is supposed to get really windy. I’ll try to go see mom this afternoon Good Lord willing.

take care everyone, good to see you in your chair this morning, Ron

Good morning all. We had quite the wind storm last night. I do think every dead leaf in OK and KS has blown into our yard! We had zero leaves in the yard when we went to bed and its ankle deep this morning. Ugh. I've already called someone to pick them up, far too many for me to attempt. And far to many to mulch into the ground. Home ownership always has something that needs tending.

That is a cute pic of Sammy. I like cats, but have never owned one. Like one owns a cat, they own you. Anyway, several of our friends have cats but it seems I always get itchy if I pet them, or are around them for very long. DH is allergic so no cats here, only dogs. This reminds me of something that happened several years ago. We were attending a bible study, and it would be at different peoples houses. It was a core group of 12 of us. We knew if people had peanut allergies, for example or cat allergies. We went to one couples house, who had cats - they were put up & she'd vacuumed. Or so we were told. within 30 minutes one guys lips are so swollen (cat allergy, & he'd had medicine before coming) that he couldn't talk. My DH was a wheezing watery eye hot mess, someone else had her eyes swelling and I went from itching to one giant hive. I finally said we've got to leave and the people thought it was hilarious we were all having reactions. So she went and brought the cats out. That was it bible study was off and everyone left. Three of us ended up in the ER with severe reactions. Ya, not funny and expensive evening.

I've got to get busy - now I feel as though I need to vacuum. I just did vacuum yesterday, but I have an urge! Let's be safe everyone.

    Hello.

Carl. That background that Sammy, has he was laying on the window ledge in the bathroom in my apartment in Bend, Oregon, and it was upstairs and I believe that is a Redwood tree. I got a big laugh about you thinking it was a big spider landing on you. Cats can be strange. It seems like my cats 🐈 are not comfortable around men. Maybe because they are bigger and louder, then me.

Eaglemom. I hate windstorms, especially when you have trees around. I'm glad you found someone to rake up the leaves, sounds like that would have been a big job. You are so right, if you own a cat, they really own you, but I love it that way.

Lorita. Wagon Train, here has started being 90 minutes instead of 60 minutes. I'm guessing it's because they are having more commercials on TV. I'm watching it right now.

Hoping you all have a good day. Hugs Zetta

Hi, lazy day here. frorgot I hadn't posted. . It is cloudy, windy and pretty cold here. . G Ps are enjoying being outside. They're barking so checked and there's some ducks on the pond and some flying around. They don't like for anything to be flying around.

I haven't done anything but necessities. Had thought I would do some paperwork - tax prep, etc. But it isn't happening. I have to be in the mood for that. Did call OPM and was on hold for ten minutes. Makes me wonder if they have been laid off or fired.

I have three lamps in the LR and just discovered two don't work so need to order a couple. Seems like the house is always dark- guess I could open the drapes.

Everyone seems to be in a good mood today. Lots of cat talk so will add that mine are either sitting on my lap or running amuck. Had thought about a nap but too late for that.

Beth and Mint, are you all having ice? Looked like you might be. Be careful.

Lorita, we had freezing rain yesterday and it was so icy, beginning around 1 pm Wednesday. It was still icy this morning but there was a lot of melting as it got up to 37 degrees. I hope it doesn't refreeze overnight. I think Mint may have the same system headed her way. Winter in the midwest isn't for sissies!

I hear you, Beth. We're having mist and fog with 40 degree temps, but we're expecting the ice early next week. My grandfather, a cattle farmer, told me late in life that he wasn't afraid to die because he didn't know how many more Missouri winters he could tolerate.

Saw a new dentist yesterday. My dentist is in Barnes in St. Louis getting a heart transplant due to congestive heart failure. He's a lot younger than I am, about 50, and looked great last time I saw him. You never know.

My wife is allergic to cats and to dogs that shed. She likes to pet them, but she has to wash her hands right after, before touching her face. Her older sister used to show dogs. We went to one of her dog shows once, but the air was so full of dog hair and talcum powder that we had to leave before it started. I may get another dog if I ever live alone again, but not until. If I do, I don't want a puppy. I want an old dog who has outlived his human and likes short walks and long naps.

We talked to a 70-ish lady a couple of months ago who had acquired a donkey, before learning that they can live a long time, 50 years or some such. She has explained to her children that they have a responsibility after she's gone. Thanks, Mom,

    Good morning

Lorita, we did get ice. It happened during the night and by 9 AM in the morning even my driveway was just slushy because it warmed up during the morning. They are giving more of the same tomorrow afternoon evening and night. Are you getting it to Beth?

That is right Carl you never know. My nephew is a kind nice looking young man, but what you can’t see is he has ADHD and dyslexia. His struggle has taught me to try and be more aware that we don’t know what battles people are fighting. This I will say also, I think the challenges my nephew face has made him a kinder gentler person toward others. He very much has a soft heart for other people and their struggles. I was not really aware what the autism battle is. I still can’t say that I know truly, but I watch a YouTube channel titled A Special Book by Special Kids. It is about people with disabilities and it’s all age groups and their families. I have never had to deal with autism and had no clue how challenging it can be for families. It does appear there’s all different levels of autism. I hope from what I’ve learned on there that I will be very careful about being judgmental if I ever see things I’ve seen on there.

Morning, another cloudy, gray day, in the 40s. Tomorrow morning it will be around 50 so guess that will be the best time to have groceries delivered. Next week beginning tomorrow afternoon will be cold with possibility of some snow mid week.

I have daffodils up all around the yard, about 4-6" tall and still have green grass. I am ready for April. Need to call the propane company to fill my tank. I think there is still 30% in it but the roads may get bad for the big truck to get over. Better go and feed the birds - I know they're waiting. Fun to watch them after I feed them. Porch gets really busy. Have a good Friday!

More ice expected overnight here, maybe 0.1 inch. That is enough to make roadways and sidewalks slippery. Then maybe an inch of snow. ❄️ ⛄️ Weather has kind of ruined some of my plans for this week. Oh well. I am retired, so I can stay inside - except for taking the dog out. Weather was kind of nice (for February) today. Sunny, not windy, in the 30's.

We got groceries today, went to Dollar store to buy valentines for the grandkids and took the dog to the groomer. I've been looking at cruise brochures - nice to dream, hope we can take a European river cruise this fall. I cleaned the bathrooms and vacuumed downstairs (finished basement), still need to do upstairs (main level). It's almost 5 pm, so not going to happen today. We have a granddaughter's basketball game tonight.

Beth, that's about enough ice to bring down tree limbs, too. I hate that sound and have heard it so much. Lots of trees in our area have died. I've lost about six just in and around the yard. Darwin keeps finding dead ones. Most of my shrubs, crepe myrtles and Althea have died and have fallen over. Hope you don't get ice. We may have a mix in our area next week.

Just ordered groceries for me and the cats and GPs, moist and meaty for the GPs and bird feed for the birds. Should be delivered before 10 a.m. while it should be in the 50s.

    Enjoy the basketball game, Beth.

Bought DS some underwear and sox today. His clothing disappears pretty rapidly at the RCF. The residents have about $60/month after paying room, board, and Medicaid copays, and they make off with each other's clothing a lot. DS doesn't steal it back or steal someone else's, he just calls me. Calling Dad is not an option for most of his peers. It's annoying, but I can afford it. By the time I bought the clothing, washed it, and took it to him, the afternoon was pretty well over. Shopping is a slow process with DW, she doesn't walk very fast. I did pick up some shampoo and groceries I wanted while I bought the clothing.

Beth, I hope you get to go on the cruise. I love cruising, it is like staying in a nice hotel and sitting on the porch, but the scenery keeps changing. And of course there are the trips ashore to interesting places.

    good morning

Beth sounds like you and I are going to have the same kind of weather.

I have not had trouble with my mom‘s clothes disappearing, which I’m thankful for that. I have had trouble though with her disposable underwear and her comb of all things. So my sister and I limit the amount of underwear we leave and we each just bought our self a comb to use when we go there. The brushes which we did not bring, they just kind of appeared from somewhere, have never disappeared. So if they comb her hair, they have to use a brush. We comb it when we are there if it hasn’t been done already.

    Good morning. 😁

Mint, you are very fortunate. DS has been in four RCFs and missing clothing has been a problem in all four, plus my mother's clothing disappeared when she was in NH. She told me when she went to NH to not bring her anything of value from her home, and I didn't. I brought her vases of flowers from my garden, though, and she enjoyed that very much. She loved flowers. Not long before she went to NH, she asked me to dig up some of her bulbs (iris, peonies, daffodils mostly) and plant them in my yard, which I did.

I checked Care Partners for DW, but their nearest location is 150 miles away in another State. A hospital gave me a list of area NHs with identification of which have MC programs, so I'm taking it from there.

    Good morning all.

It's been a rough couple of days here. Mother is not rebounding as quickly as we'd hoped. They did a shorter steroid taper, so she seems back where she was in terms of breathing when she was still in the hospital which is both scary for me and frustrating for her. The pulmo warned us this could happen as she recovered and gave parameters for a trip to the ER.

Mom had her cat euthanized on Thursday. While this wasn't unexpected, the cat was sicker than she realized and not getting better. Quality of life was an issue, so she made the difficult choice. I think I felt worse for her than I did for DS when his cat died.

Then I came down with something. I suspect it might be flu as onset was quick with a sore throat, headache, congestion and body aches. No fever, but I don't tend to get fevers. It's not COVID and it feels like more than a cold. I did get the shots, but the flu jab isn't very reliable IME.

Zetta— Your cat has such a sweet face.

Beth— Your mom is lovely in that picture. Funny, I always thought the girls in mom's yearbook looked like grown women to me. Even in my 20's they looked more mature, serious and poised than anyone my age. The Santorini "painting" is pretty cool. A friend of mine did a cruise on Norwegian Epic around Greece last year. He liked it a lot more than he thought he would. He's typically a rougher traveler— hiking the Inca Trail or biking across China. A few years back, he has some points set to expire and let a friend talk him into 7 days in Italy where they managed to cover Florence, Rome, Venice and Lake Como by train— overnight when possible. It sounds exhausting.

Eagle— The story of Bible Study makes me want to bash heads. For someone highly allergic, it might be hard to clean a house well enough to be safe. I have a friend whose asthma is triggered by cats. I once picked her up in my car for an hour-long ride and she was gasping by the time we got to the destination. The trigger turned out to be mom's old cat who I'd taken to the vet a week before in a solid carrier in the rear seat. That was enough to set her off. Yikes.

Winter weather coming overnight here. We seem to be stuck in a system of snow/ice every few days for the next couple of weeks. Forecasts are all over the place— an inch of snow, then rain to 7" snow with a 1/2" of ice. Yuck.
