Oh, Judith, I am so sorry and I pray you will be better very soon.

Judith, be careful and don't get up without your walker. Keep your phone nearby. Keep us updated.

Hello All.
I'm glad Chinese food sounded good, to some of you. We got so much, with the 3 of us, we all wanted something different, so along with the extra sides we ordered, we will be eating Chinese food for 3 days. So Eagle, if you and your DH, get chinese, today, I hope you took extra home to feed you on the bad weather days.
HB. I hope your mom, gets to come home, so she can get some rest along with peace and quiet. Hopefully your DH, is starting to feel better. Sounds like the drive home you and your DS, had was not a safe one. Hopefully you will be able to stay in when the weather is that bad. Especially when it's bad enough to blow trees down.
JeriLynn. How is Specks, foot doing? Poor Buddy, where did he come from? I would love to get my hands on, whoever did that to him!!
Judith. I feel so bad for you, food poisoning is not a easy thing. Lots of crackers, hopefully will help.
Lorita. I'm not getting into smaller clothes, alls I ware are sweat pants, but they are smaller. I did have to buy some new undies, I went from a 10 to a 6. I'm also finding with the weight loss, it's easier getting up and moving around.
I hope you're all having a nice Sunday. Hugs Zetta

hope you’re feeling better soon Judith
I went out at 2 PM my gas tank up. It was just down a fourth of a tank. It was bitter cold. I remember right when I got home and looked it was 13 and I know the windchill was so it’ll be cold tonight. The wind has gotten very strong to blow all the snow around and drift.. I’m not complaining a lot of people are going through much worse it’s Ohio. We’ve got a little we haven’t had this for a few years.

Still in mid 40s here but cloudy now. Did go to the mailbox for mail from Saturday. I made the soup so ya'll come over for supper. I even have French and corn breads . I like to add a big spoonful of cottage cheese in mine so even have that.
They are crawling names of schools to be closed here tomorrow on the bottom of the tv screen. Looks like everyone will be out. When it was this cold and bad in 2020 both Darwin and I were feeding cattle and cutting ice. It did both of us in. Now all we have to do is worry about them. Cows are calving everywhere so there will probably be losses. Hate that!
Zetta, I got the electric throw out a while ago to help keep me warm. If you put it on the bed do you put it over or under other covers?
1 -
Lorita . I would put it under the covers, so the covers on top will weight it down on you. Especially if it's just a throw. Stay safe and be warm. Hugs

Thanks, Zetta, good to know. This one. Is really slippery. Thought I had found it but it was another throw the same color. Mike and Sidney just stopped by to give the GPs their allergy shots. So glad to get that done. He says he's okay but is limping some on his knee and ankle. He checked what I was afraid wss a hernia.on Stormy's stomach but said it wss a lipoma and to just watch it. Both GPs have some.but this one is about 3" across. Didn't have the Prednisone but will leave it in the mailbox when he feeds again. Both GPs are sound asleep now. Both.of them were well behaved this time. Last time I.got tangled up in Stormy's leash and fell. Thanks again, Zetta. Judith, are you all right??

The schools are closed Tuesday here in MO. We expect 12+ inches of snow, driven into 2-3' drifts by the NW wind, followed by sub-zero temps. I have a 4# bag of pinto beans I'm saving for emergencies, so I am declaring an emergency. The weatherman said this would be the worst snow in decades. I guess he is referring to '94-'95, when it snowed a foot and got down to -16 F.
I get my scrips from Walgreen's, so I went there and got my refills today. They were already working on them to be picked up Tuesday so I told them I would run out if I got snowed in and sat and waited while they filled them. Then we went to WM and stocked up on food and TP. I was tempted to add a bottle of booze but refrained. Every household needs at least one sober adult and I have drawn the short straw. My wife doesn't drink and never did, but she doesn't count as a responsible adult anymore.
The noise and crowds at WM are hard on my wife. She was worn out and ready for bed by sundown. I hope I never take her there again. I'll be taking her to adult daycare next week, God willing.
Lorita, thanks for the invite but I don't think I can make my way to you. I am eating on a pot of "pantry soup" consisting of canned corn, tomatoes, black beans, red beans, and chili powder. It's not homemade, but it isn't bad. I bought a little heart-shaped box of chocolates at half price today, but my wife declined chocolate for the first time in her life and ate an apple instead. So I had hazelnut chocolates for dessert. Pretty good!

Zetta - I love that your hair has purple and blue streaks! Those cool vibrant colors go so well with white hair.
HB - I hope your mom got discharged today.
JeriLynn - that photo of Buddy hurts my heart. I hope whoever did that ends up in jail for a long while.
jfkoc - I hope you're starting to feel better. Food poisoning is no fun.
Mint and Carl - Be careful out there! I'm cold just thinking about your weather!
As for me — A day of projects. I got Peggy's final tax returns done. I'm glad I got them done, and as far as I know, it's the last thing I have to do for her estate. I have mixed feelings about finishing up because it's the end, you know? I got the last of my filing done as well. I'm feeling like I'm on top of the bureaucracy for now.
The gym was good for me today - mostly a strength training day with a little cardio thrown in.
As I read through the comments here, I realize that I really like corn bread, but I haven't had it in quite awhile. I think the last time I had it was at least a year ago while visiting my mom-in-law in Charleston. My husband doesn't much care for it, but I should make a pan of it anyway because I know it'll be yummy.
Getting ready to go to sleep. I stayed up late to listen to Death Guild online - a pretty good night of old school goth. And fun to chat with everyone online. It's got a half hour to go, but I don't think I'm going to last until 2:30am.
Hope you all have a good morning — I'll catch you all in the much later morning! 😄

good morning
Carl prayers were making it safely through the storm. Hope that daycare works out real well for you and DW. Those pinto beans sound good. I’m hoping that possibly tomorrow but if not, maybe Saturday I can can pinto beans. I want to other dry beans also over the next few weeks. I did a few that way last year to see if I liked and I really like and I the convenience of it. I’m using the last once today to make chili if I have time.
It is 2° here this morning and the windchill is -8. It’s gonna be another very cold day here, but they’re not giving any falling weather of any sort. I’m sure there’s drifting because it was starting to drift yesterday evening when I went and got gas and money for the week. It was very cold. I only needed like a fourth of a tank of gas to fill my car and I was warm other than my fingertips, but they got pretty cold and just that short amount of time so you know it would be dangerous to be out for very long.I will try to go check on mom right after lunch. It’s not that far and I have two sisters that live fairly close to my mom like five minutes away from where mom lives.
GG so there is hope of getting on top of the bureaucracy eventually? I know that feeling of the bureaucracy always being on top of you wanting something. I have finally got everything collected to go back to VA to file to see if mom would happen to qualify for any VA benefits. I’m guessing not but it’s worth it in case she is it would make our money go farther.
Judith, Ron, JoC, Joan, Barbara, HB’s mom and anyone else not feeling well, I hope you’re feeling a little better this morning and a lot better would be awesome.
take care

Good morning front porch friends!
Down in the 20s this week and thought this is cold, till I spoke with my son in Missouri. He told me it could get down to 0 and that they might get up to 14 inches of snow. I'll shut up about being cold in the 20s!!
I received my Medtronic telemonitoring system yesterday and now need to set it up where vitals can be sent to nurses. Also, had another 6 minute walk test for my oxygen use.
Thank I'll lay back down, woke up at 1:30 this morning choking and i couldn't get back to sleep. COPD isn't fun!

Morning 24 here with some freezing drizxle. Kitchen window screens are covered in ice. Hope I don't have to get out today except to feed birds. Weathermsn said it is getting slick in Tulsa. After ice comes the snow.
Judith, hope you feel better this morning. Let us know. Carl, Darwin went to WM yesterday for groceries and medicine and said it was crowded. He was in line to get their meds with seven people in front of him and seven behind. When his time came he started to go up and a woman ran in front of him. Gentleman he is, he didn't say anything but surely was upset.
Weather just said parts of I-40 is already closed. Feel sorry for people feeding cattle this morning and for the cattle. You all stay in and be careful.

Good morning. I hope this experiencing extreme weather are able to come through safely. It's cold here and the winds have died down considerably, but driving point-to-point is like an obstacle course. I had 2 different road closures on my route to Costco yesterday and another on the way to the hospital.
Mom did indeed make it home by 4:30pm yesterday. But there's a wrinkle. The blood culture they did before she left that was a final follow up to confirm that the Ancef took care of the staph infection from the January hospitalization has come back positive for both staph and strep. Her PCP will see us at noon to discuss next steps. I feel like the poor woman can't get a break.

Morning!
Hope our porch friends and families feel better today.
I cooked yesterday: Hamburger steak and onions, butter beans, cornbread, cabbage/onions/smoked sausage and mashed potatoes. We have leftovers but I'm cooking again today. Already made a vanilla cake and sliced up some fresh strawberries, got mushrooms and onions simmering to go with the leftover beef. Making some bread. Gonna throw a pork tenderloin in the crockpot and shred it for bbq. Looking for a Chantilly cream recipe. It's too cold to be outside. Though DH has been most of the morning.
Tonight and tomorrow starts the weather for us. Sleet, ice, then snow. A little snow. But, nobody down here knows how to drive when the roads are like we expect them to be tomorrow. So we will get our cooking and running done today and just stay home tomorrow. Checking in with all the grandkids to make sure they have groceries, gas in their cars and propane. I love these knuckleheads but they do not plan ahead. So I touch base with everyone to remind them.
The babies are fine. Speck the chicken.. well, the wound has not opened and will remain dressed with drawing salve. I've ordered a scalpel from Amazon so I can lance the bottom of her foot. I have some Lidocaine cream to numb around the wound site. Then wash it out with some Vetricin and apply an antibiotic ointment. Wish me luck. I've never lanced a chicken foot before. People, yes. Maybe a dog. But not a chicken.
Lord willing, tomorrow will be a good day to sort tax papers and binge Netflix and nap. Be safe out there.

HB, that staph infection can be hard time get rid of. 12 years ago i had a heart cath and ended up with a staph infection from it. I was in the hospital 5 days getting rid of it.
Already problems with home health monitor. Guess I'm going to have to call someone.

It is 25 here with strong nort h wind and freezing drizxle. Went out on porch and fed the birds. Had o long gown, fleece pajamas, coat and trappershat and still wss cold. Went back to bed to watch tv and have cereal just got up to heat my tea and can't see out the kitchen window. Everything is covered in ice. News says there are lots of wrecks and road closings and snow hasn't started here. Everyone is sound asleep and no sign of the girls - in the barn for sure.
Ron, sorry about the problem, hope it gets worked out.
HB, glad your Mom is home but awful but sorry the labwork was positive.
JeriLynn, I think you cook more than anyone I know. I only cook when necessary then cook enough for several meals.
Carl, good to have those pintos for hard times. I like to keep dried beans and pasta, too.
Sandy, looks like you will get this weather in a day or so. Please stay inside and be warm.
Mint stay inside and be warm. Too cold to shovel snow.
Back later

We’re back in the ER having been turfed by the PCP
This is so disappointing and frustrating. Her birthday is tomorrow

I am so sorry, HB. Let us know.what happens with your mother. Hope everything is okay.
Judith, how are you today? We need to hear from you.

It's 17 with strong north wind. Let the GPs out and saw a couple.of girls at the water tank. It had some water in it yesterday but may be empty now. I need to give them water but almost afraid to go out in this weather. The steps are Ice covered and if I fell I would freeze. Le the GPs in and their is wet so it must be a heavy mist.
Heavy snow north of here and highways are closed in places. Our weatherman runs Herefords and he just said he had a baby calf this morning - doing pretty well. Wife is checking on it. A semi wrecked North of here and it was loaded with eggs so they are all ruined. It is going to be 70 here Monday!!. To b e about zero tonight with way below zero.WC.

HB - I'm so sorry that your mom is having to go through all of this. I'm thinking positive thoughts for both of you.
Lorita - be careful out there in the snow and ice.
Ron - I hope everything gets settled with the home health monitor.
I read an article on the Washington Post about the polar vortex covering a chunk of the US right now. It's got a chart of the temps in various states. I know many of you are in some of those states affected, so be careful!
For us in Washington state, the weather has calmed down a bit. We even have a bit of sun - which I haven't seen in days. Our temps are in the low 50s right now, low 40s at night — which is way better than 20 degrees!

I did go out and gave the girls water so they wouldn't go to the pond. Guess the guys will cut ice on the pond when they feed tomorrow. Westher just said the WC in Tulsa is minus 13. Let the GPs out and they were wet when they came in. I think the show has moved out but I hear the wind blowing. Eagle, it said it's about 20 in Dallas. Stay warm tonight. Supposed to be uber cold here until the weekend. If we don't hear from Judith in the morning I'll call her. Waited too long today. Good night everyone.

Yes Lorita, its 19 but the windchill is 0. I had to go outside with Madison to encourage her to very quickly potty so we could get back inside. She wanted held and wrapped in a blanket!!
HB your poor mom, and you. Let's at least hope her roommate is quiet with quiet visitors. Maybe this will be a short stay.
Off to bed, I can't get warm. I feel sorry for those whom have to work outsside in these conditions. I can hear ice pellets hitting the side of the house now. Let's be safe everyone. Good night.

We didn't get a foot of snow as predicted, but we got several inches with drifting. It's 4 F now, wind chill is sub-zero. The snow has pretty much moved on, to put several inches on those poor people who are trying to clean the floodwater out of their homes in Kentucky. What a miserable winter!
My son called this morning and asked me to come see him, 25 miles of blowing snow away. In a 13-year-old sedan. With his 77-year-old mother riding shotgun. I took a rain check.
Take care of yourselves out there. Good night.

Good morning
Lorita hope you are safe this morning. Sounds like you’re having some miserable weather.
JeriLynn your food sounds good as usual. I made a new chili recipe that my sister shared with me rotelle tomatoes in it and it turned out tasty. I only have one jar of the dry beans that I canned about a year ago left. I really have enjoyed having them so as soon as I have a free day, I’m going to try and get some more canned up.
Judith, I’m a little bit worried about you. I hope you’re doing OK and not too miserable.
HB how are things going with your mother? I know you’ve really had a lot on your plate lately.
Eagle I feel sorry for those who have to work outside also. It is seven here this morning. No win makes a huge difference.
Carl hope the weather improves soon so you can go visit with your son. He’s probably missing you, but I believe you did the right thing.
take care

Good morning.
Ron— I hope you can get your Medtronic device working and that it can replace some trips to the office. Staph after a heart procedure is scary; that's part of the extra precaution around mom— she has an artificial heart valve. And knees and implants but the TAVR is the biggie. I agree, COPD is an awful condition to live with.
Zetta— Darn you, I have been craving Chinese since you mentioned it here. A big ol' plate of drunken noodle would hit the spot right now.
Lorita— That weather sounds really miserable. I hope it improves soon. I know I am looking forward to spring.
Carl— I do hope the day program becomes something to which your wife looks forward. I know my aunt's MCF ran a day program in their unit and she really enjoyed the social aspects of it. They even had a therapy dog which brightened her day.
Eaglemom— Good news on mom's room placement. She's 3 doors down from the Rock'em Sock'em Sisters. Alas that means she's next to the old guy who yells "Girl, girl!" at the nurses as they walk by. He even does this to the guys on the unit.
Jerilynn— I am always impressed by the sheer number of things you fix for each meal. My husband would be happy with meat and a starch and call it supper. Add a veg and green salad and I'm told I made too much food. Last week when I was burned out after my hospital visits, and we were both under the weather he had a bowl of cereal for dinner. That wouldn't happen on your watch.
_____________________________________________________________Today is mom's birthday. I may run to her favorite steak place and order her a filet, jacket potato and some sort of veggie and a big birthday cupcake. She expressly asked me not to bring any balloons. She is not happy to be in-hospital over her birthday, but it's not the first time it's played out this way. The great hepatitis scare of 2016 happened over her birthday. This was the incident that caused mom to finally agree to have dad evaluated for dementia.
Admission was fairly smooth yesterday all things considered. I reached out to the PCP's office as soon as I saw the test results. The scheduler gave us a 12:30 appointment when I explained the "why" for her to message the nurse-on-call. The nurse called right back saying she'd talked to the doctor who suggested going straight to the ER. We got there by 11am and beat the crowds. She had the same triage nurses as last Tuesday and was sent to the exact same ER bay room next to the suture station.
TBH, I felt a little foolish bringing her back to the ER 18 hours after discharge, but once they heard why, everything was expedited for her. She was officially admitted by noon and we had a consult with infectious disease around 2pm. ID says she's going to need some sort of IV medication for a minimum of 28 days. Ugh. She'll be having echos to monitor her TAVR which is the big risk here. They'll have to wait until it's safe to re-do her PICC line and then send her home. She wasn't sure how long that might be.

Morning, temp is 5 with WC of minus 3 and the wind is blowing which makes it worse. Saw a cow and little calf in front of the barn all Humped up. Even y thing is white, ice on bottom with a couple, a least, inches of snow on top. GPs went out but Sheena came back in quickly. Stormy is out there barking at something.
HB, glad your mom got admitted quickly. Hope her treatment quickly does the trick. Happy Birthday to her.
I will give Judith a little while to wake up before I call. Hope she is okay.
Sun just came out. Looks pretty but looks don't matter when it is so cold. Tonight is supposed to be colder - below zero. Lots of wrecks, mostly semis in the area just south and east of us. Darwin is worried about his daughter trying to get to work at the VA. She lives in Arkansas so she has to drive on I 40 which is so bad. Back later -need some hot tea!

Tried to get in touch with Judith but message said not accepting calls now. Tried another number got her friend, Winda! She said Judith has had type A flu and wss pretty sick. She saw her Monday and she was better. She has her computer so guess she will post when she feels better.
I wrapped up and fed the birds, almost froze. Guess I'm getting soft. I know it was this cold when we were feeding and we just did it.Girls are drifting down . to pond and up to hay but pond is frozen.. Hope the guys come to feed and cut ice soon.. It is up to 11 with WC.3.

Lorita, thanks for calling and checking on Judith. Sorry to hear she has Influenza A. Some people get extremely ill with that. I'll Keep her in my prayers. We all love and appreciate Judith here on the porch and miss her when she is gone.
HB, I am saddened to hear your mother has bacteremia. Very dangerous! Good that they caught it and got her back in the hospital. The 28 days of antibiotic administration will be a challenge for you when she goes home. I feel bad for both of you. I wonder if a home nurse could come in and administer some of her IV antibiotics so you don't have to do it every time. I know it takes a lot of time and if you could catch a break that would be nice. I certainly admire how you take such good care of her! She is very lucky to have you.
JeriLynn, I always like reading your newsy posts. Is Buddy your dog, or are you dog sitting? He is a cutie, sad what he had to go through but hopefully having a very good life now.

Hello everyone, sorry I haven't posted lately but I'm still recovering from my bought of the flu. It tossed me for a loop. I sorry 10 days in the hospital on my back they had to use the lift to get me to sit a chair. I'm still learning how to walk without a walker.
