I'm sorry for the man with the dog. An old bird hunter told me that it would be a better world if a shotgun lasted ten years and a dog lasted a lifetime instead of the other way around. But it isn't that way. As Queen Elizabeth said after the loss of her husband, "Grief is the price we pay for love."
GG, I have a hard time understanding why anyone who lives in the Pacific Northwest would want to give up salmon. It would be like living on New Orleans and not eating crawfish. But as the postman said, "To each his zone."

Just watched a cow walking with a purpose to the.north end of the pond. She stopped st the end of the dam and stood there a while, like she was waiting for a baby to get up. Never did , then she moved away a bit and stood there and then started back toward the herd but stopped at the water's edge before moving on. It was like she went in back to check on baby. If I had the Gator I would check. Mike said they had lost five babies they know of, to the cold and ice. But saved several.
The news just reported that Turkey is going to send the U.S. 30 million pounds of eggs. Wonder if they are turkey eggs, never ate one of those.

Lorita - Boost is good! I discovered it during the last couple of months of Peggy's life. It was one of the few things we could get inside of her. Later, I still had probably close to a dozen of the containers left, so I turned them into popsicles. So, when it gets hot (someday), Boost popsicles. I highly recommend them.
Carl - it's not that I want to give up salmon, it's more a state of mind, at least for me. But you are so right about the salmon here, they are so good.
When we first moved up from California, we did a taste test of the available salmon in the grocery store. We weren't convinced they would be all that different. We got an ounce or two of Coho, King, Copper River, and Sockeye. And much to our surprise, they all looked different, had different fat content, and they all tasted different from each other. Sockeye had the least fat and had the wildest taste. Copper River was the fattiest, and the most delicious in my books.

Thanks, GG, I will do that this summer. It gets as hot here in the summer as it gets cold in the winter plus very high humidity.
For any of you who enjoy curling, Olympic trials for mixed doubles is on tonight and tomorrow night on CNBCHD.
Good.night.

Good morning everyone
Mid 30s today they think

Good morning
G.G. and Lorita, Boost is also about all i could get Lou to drink toward the end. Also, due to all my current problems and because I'm pre diabetic, the VA has supplied me with Glucerna. I cannot tell the difference between it and Boost.
Ron

Morning, Ron, glad you get the Glucerna from the VA. Charles was also supported with a supplement but I don't remember the name. It was in small cardboard cartons. I never tasted it but I do like Boost.
Supposed to be in the 50s today and 70s this week!

Good morning.
Another day, another 3 loads of laundry. Seriously, where does all these dirty clothes come from?
I have nothing planned for the day aside from catching up around the house and running over to mom's to change her IV medication ball. The one yesterday was empty after 22 hrs., so it was easy to remove it, let her shower and start a new one at 5pm instead of the middle of dinnertime. She's supposed to have a home nurse visit today at 1pm.
HB0 -
HB, I always wondered about why there were so many dirty clothes and why we had so much trash. I still have lots of trash and dog and cat food cans.
I just checked on my Chewy order and found two cases of 22 oz. Cans of dogfood had been delivered yesterday. Called them and they had a photo of the box in front of our white entry gate, over a quarter mile from the house, on a main road. Their shipping labels says "deliver to front porch". So, went down, cut open the box, put the cases in the PU and brought them home to the porch. May have to do the same with the rest of the order tomorrow. Our driveway is really muddy this morning, much worse than yesterday. Enough of my ranting, just irritates me.
Curling is on today at 1 p.m. if anyone is interested. This is the first that has been this winter. We got really interested in it years ago.
Just saw a red headed woodpecker hanging on one of the birdfeeders. So pretty. All the.birds were ready to be fed this morning.

Ron — my mom-in-law drinks Glucerna, she likes it a lot. I've never had it so I can't compare.
Weather-wise, we're up to the 40s, and might hit 50 - fingers crossed!
I'm doing some volunteering today, and I'm expecting it to be stressful. Think good thoughts.

But before I go —- I was reviewing the materials for today (how to change a birth certificate) and I came across this as part of the instructions:
"If you need a birth corticated: a) the fee for a certified copy of a birth certificate is $20…"
I'm like, "corticated", I don't think I've ever seen that word. I looked it up. It means having a rind or bark. Or, having a cortex or a similar specialized outer layer. None of that makes any sense on a government form for how to change a birth certificate.
Then my next thought was "ahhh, autocorrect".
Someone needs to update that form. 😄

Judith, we haven't heard from you today.. How are you and are you getting better?

Good for you,Judith. Be careful when you get up. . You sound better. Take care and let us know how you are.
It was a nice day but I know the roads are worse since they thawed. Pyrenees stayed out most of the day but are inside now and fast asleep. Good nature show on CBS - The Americas
Good night, everyone

I kind of understand the vegetarian idea. Some of the healthiest looking people I know are vegetarians, and it is kinder to the animals and the environment. Sign in a restaurant: "Ham and eggs. A day's work for a chicken, a lifetime commitment for a pig." Makes you think.
I just ate a peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat, with a cup of milk. According to the package labels, I got 22 grams of protein, approximately 22% of the recommended daily allowance. No animals harmed.
I'm not ready to give up meat. The Neanderthal in me misses it when I don't get it. But I do try to limit it.
"Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." I don't remember who said that, but it's good advice.

Never ate a turkey egg. Guinea eggs are good, and the shells are pale green. So, if you want green eggs and ham . . .

We used to buy eggs from a farmer who delivered them to our door. They were free range hens, and the shells were sturdier than those of cage hens, requiring a pretty firm rap to crack them. I taught my son to cook eggs so once when my MIL was cooking eggs he asked if he could crack the eggs into the skillet for her. He assured her he knew how to do it, but her eggs were cage eggs. He took an egg and whacked it firmly on the front of the stove, as he did at home, and the cage egg smashed all down the front of the stove.
Free range eggs are so much better than cage eggs. The hens eat insects as well as chicken feed, and the result is noticeable. Orange yolks instead of pale yellow, and more flavor.

good morning
Have been canning beans for a few days. I have got black beans, kidney beans, and pinto beans done. I soaked garbanzo beans overnight, so hopefully I’ll get them done this morning.
Suppose to get into the 40s today. It’s going to be pretty windy though, so it probably will feel a little cool.

Good morning porch dwellers.
Judith— I am sorry to hear your recovery is on the slower side for a bout of food poisoning. That must be very miserable.
Gothic G— I find auto-correct an endless source of amusement. The only thing that rivals it are the transcripts of the voicemails on mom's phone. Friday, I found one from the courier driver who was delivering her medication supplies which read "This is IKEA from the pharmacy. I am running late…"
Lorita— I guess the price we pay for warmer weather is mud season. Do the GPs get terribly dirty outside? Our old St. Bernard used to get really filthy when left to his own devices. Washing him was a bit like washing a small car.
Carl— Hens that have outdoor access to produce a superior product. I buy mine at the local beer store when he has them. So much nicer than I can get at the store.
It's funny you mention guinea eggs. On Milk Street Radio last week, a woman was asking about substituting goose eggs for chicken eggs when baking. Her angel food cakes were collapsing.
Mint— I'm curious, why are you canning beans? Are you flavoring them or is it just for the ease of being able to use them without having to soak them first?

Mom is so much happier at home. LOL, I am too. She had the home health nurse visit yesterday to re-establish care. This particular one was terrific. So far, things are so much better. She was maintaining oxygen on room air. I'm hoping she can eventually be weaned off it again.

Good morning! Hope all who are under the weather are feeling better.
We went to "Beauty and the Beast" at the children's theater yesterday afternoon with one of our granddaughters. We all enjoyed it.
Today my plans include making pancake mix, bone broth and coleslaw - and going to exercise class. Plus want to get a walk in - supposed to be 58 this pm!

Good morning all. It seems as if the awful cold has left most of us, yea. Isn't it amazing how just a tiny bit of warmer weather brightens ones mood? Mid 50's today and it feels like it will be warmer than that.
HB I'm so happy for both you and your mom. Let's hope her upward trend continues. At home she doesn't have to deal with ridiculous roommates. That would make anyone happier!
Lorita you can call Chewy and voice your concern about the delivery. They will "discuss" it with whomever delivered it. They want happy customers.
I need to clean up, toss a load of laundry in (where does it all come from?) and get busy. I've got to get the car washed, I don't want the salt from the road on it.
Let's be careful everyone.

@Lorita
Regarding the copious amounts of trash.
We have a neighbor who generates massive amounts of trash each week. They're an older couple who raised 5 kids who have moved out. They have 3 large dogs. This week they had 4 barrels (2- 70 gallon and 2- 55 gallon overflowing) of trash, a 70 gallon tote of recycling and a box of broken-down cardboard. No furniture this week; last week there was a bed and love seat and the week before that there were 3 desks. This has gone on since the start of COVID isolating— I would think his house would be empty by now.
My mom likes to come over for dinner the evening before trash day just to see what he's put out at the curb. I bought the house from her 25 years ago when they moved to MD so she knows this guy.

I like canning my own beans for the ease of use and also because I can them in half pints. The majority of the time I only use a half pint. If I need more, I just open up another jar. Used to I get garbanzo beans in a little can now you have to get 16 ounces. What I like to use put on my salad, so I do not need a pint of them. It’s very easy to do. I’m starting to get much more comfortable with canning and I enjoy it. I’ve been eating my green beans and tomatoes this winter and I’m surviving. I worried about it a little bit lol. Glad it’s getting a little easier for your mom and you.
Beth it’s so nice how you get to do things with your grandchildren.
Eagle warm weather and sun lifts my spirits also. Got my car washed Saturday. I dislike when I have to drive a dirty car. So easy to bump up against it and then your coat gets dirty. I dislike it.

Good morning, psma pet scan at 12:30 with care in the community. I already warned ladies at council on aging that the tracer they use for prostate specific, that i needed to stay away from pregnant women for a few days. LOL

Morning, warmer this morning and is supposed o be 70' today. HB Sheena can go out and you would never know she had ten outside. Her hair is optic while and fluffy never seems to get dirty. Stormy is a different story. His hair is different, fairly long and he has the ruff around his neck. He rolls in the dirt and grass. Just like a boy. They are laying in the sun on the porch now. Glad your mom is doing better at home. Think we all would.
Carl, I heard something years ago that really made me think and has stuck with me. This person said he would not eat anything with a face, and I can't do that either. I eat a lot of peanut butter so feel I get enough protein. We had mine as when we had chickens. They were good watch guineas for letting us know if someone was around. Mint,we canned a listen I was growing up and made all of our jelly and jam and sealed it with paraffin. When mother would open a pint of it she would spoon a little bit of it off the top. I don't make my own new but used to and even now still take some off the top, just in case something went wrong during procressing. Old habits are are to break.
Happy this day that I am no longer a Federal employee.

Adding to our flock this year and thought I would share my newest babies.

up…showered…hair washed…ate some rice…now time for a nap…..I do not think it was food poisoning

Finally, a beautiful sunny day!
Big Red had her babies this morning: a pair of beautiful dapple boys. So far she is tending them well. I fed her some cookies and told her she's a good Mama.
I have the house to myself for a few hours today. Sweeping, vacuuming, mopping. Cleaned the oven. Wiped down all the counters and dusted each room. Shopped for supper. Laundry done. Now to make the beds.
Did a little tax prep earlier. I'm gonna go ahead and throw my dinner in the oven (and hope I don't blow up the house after using an oven cleaning product).
Glad our sick folks are feeling better! Hope everyone has a good day.

Goodlife, good looking babies. . I think baby chicks are so cute. Is it 52 days until they start laying?
Eagle, I did call Chewy. They have it on their label to deliver the pkg. To my porch. Most of the drivers comply. Will see what happens with the delivery today.
Judith, I though you had the flu. Glad you were able to be up some today. Take it easy.
Jerilynn, May be a silly question but is Big Red a red goat? Glad the twins are doing well.. How many more do you all expect?

Just don't let them sit on your lap and they'll be OK. 😉
