Just need to talk to my friends (202)

Morning, it's 32 right now,. All down hill from here. They say we won't be above freezing until Wednesday. The GPs are outside for the second time this morning. They seem to.love the cold.
Mint, looks like the saying of snow holding on waiting for more may be true. More is predicted the next two days but just a dusting. I have heard that all my life. I'm watching Milk Street and it is all about flat bread. Reminded me of you. Have you made any lately?
JeriLynn, keep the.pictures coming. I love to see all the goats. Would like to.have a couple but guess that won't happen so will enjoy yours. Have fun and be safe on your trip.
My thermals are back on along with two pairs of socks. Right now I'm enjoying the bright pink fleece pjs. They are so warm. Will need to feed the.birds in a few minutes and later today will fill the water tank in the corral half full in case the girls come to the barn tonight. I miss them being close to the.house so I can keep an eye on them. Zetta, good luck with your dental work. I am so glad you are back on the porch with us. This morning the porch is windy and cold but sunny since it faces east. GPs just came in and I saw something shining up at the feeding area so went out and fed the birds while I was out. I put feed on the porch sailing and in three feeders. They jump on the sunflower seeds before I finish. GPs wanted back out. Gosh, that North wind from Siberia is cold!!
David, glad you are enjoying the VA Home. Veterans are wonderful people. Charles was a veteran of the Korean War He was in Japan when it began and was in Korea the entire war. I worked for and with veterans at our VA Hospital for over 33 years and got to hear a lot of war stories. Enjoy your trips to WM and enjoy the food at Hooters,-
Carl, you all will probably be colder than us and longer. Stay in and be warm. I sit in a recliner a lot of the time with my feet up. This is the one Charles sat in. I have a bigger one in the sunroom that I like so should move it in here and put this one in there. Did it once so guess I can do it again.
Judith, hope you found the peppercorns. My doctor asked me what kind of pepper I use and said the kind you grind at home is really bad for diverticulitis. Who knew?
Thought I .might make some stoop ( thick soup) today but have some potato soup left so guess I will wait until tomorrow. Beth that clematis us beautiful. I had several but only the purple one on the light in the yard bloomed. I love balsam. Guess I may have yo replant shrubs this year since the drought did most of the ones I had in. Sounds like you have your work cut out for you.
Marie, I am so ready for daffodils. I have pretty green grass now but didn't this past summer. Guess it's fescue. Nice to look out and see something green. I wish I knew how to.crochet but never.learned. My.MIL did beautiful work but was never with her long enough for her to teach me. I have a beautiful, white sweater cape she made for me. Should get it out and wear it some.
Sandy, hope you are well today. Stay inside and watch the.birds at the feeder. My.porch is alive with birds, the south end, anyway. It faces east and the north or south wind blows through like a wind tunnel. Really cold out there this morning.
Time for some hot MOM,( malt-o- meal) toast and hot tea. Back later.

Morning. Lorita you had me laughing at the Siberian cold, it does feel exactly that way. It's so deceiving, the sun is shining (for now) but the temp is in the 30's and with the high north wind I bet the wind chill is in the teens. It's just plain old cold.
Our Chief's are playing today at 3:30. It is very cold in KC, 24 with of course a northern wind. My concern is Patrick hasn't played since Christmas Day and his wife just had a baby on Monday. Let's hope he can have a clear head and go about his business of winning the ball game!
I think its sweet your wife is visiting you David. She misses you as much as you miss her. Your both still adjusting to this new arrangement.
I think I shared that DH and I play different games, etc. Right now he is hung up on Chinese Checkers. He absolutely loves to play. He's ask that after I get lunch we can't play then since the Chief's will be playing when we usually play our game!! Guess I'd best get lunch going. Then I'm getting a big pot of chili started prior to checkers!
Back later. Let's be safe everyone.

Eagle, I was afraid I couldn't get the Chiefs game but I can. Glad of that. How many kids does Patrick have? Did you hear about his house being burglarized a few weeks ago? Several other players in different sports have had the same thing happen. I can imagine.how cold Arrowhead will be with the wind blowing. We were there at a game in October or early November and were sitting in the shade. Sun was shining but it was so cold we could hardly feel our feet so.left at halftime and watched the rest of the game in the motel. Have you ever been to Artowhead? It is beautiful with the red seats, green field and blue sky with buildings in downtown KC visible in the distance. We loved to go for games and the market on Saturday. I don't think I have ever seen the Texans play.
Do you put beans in your chili? We always did and served it over rice. I haven't had chili in at least 30 years. We used to have Doritos with it.I need to find a good recipe for vegetarian chili.
GPs just went.out again. I don't think it's too bad out if the wind in the sun. They live ut. Still in my brother male and pjs but guess I should put on some clothes and go to the mailbox before the game.
Judith, they have a single cup Keurig coffee maker.on QVC for $60. Not sure if that is a good price or not.

Good afternoon—
It's seasonably cold today with a bit of drizzle. We have a storm tomorrow— 4-6" of snow forecasted and then real cold. Temps will not get out of the teens until Thursday. Yuck.
I need to run to the store for a few things and want to put gas in my car. I probably need gas for the snowblower as well.
DH and I are meeting friends for dinner at a Thai place. It's byob and I need to decide between wine or a beer.

I think I will like the (scenery) at Hooters as well as the food.

Just pottering around today….may have found a house for ex SIL. He is the reason for the delay on starting construction on the flip house
I am thinking of getting a PhD. Crazy???
Jeri…where are we going?
1 -
Judith, not crazy at all. Looks like the snow is north and Northwest of you. It's partly cloudy here so guess we may get some later. Need to go to the mailbox and run some water. Good you're staying in today.

Hello All.
Lorita, I love being back on the porch, I missed ya all, while I was out of commission. I missed your girls and the GPs. And hearing how things are going.
David. Sounds like where you're at is best for you, with all the activities. Please enjoy the scenery at Hooters. 😎
Carl. O My! You can't let your DW get rid of your chair! It's to bad she can't move it on her own, and you sure don't want to hurt your back.
Jerilynn. I enjoy the pictures of your goats. Looks like you planned well for things to be taken care of while your on you trip. Sounds like your grandaughter is in good hands.
Mint. I'm glad your finding time to rest. I also hope this procedure im having done goes well. I was pretty uncomfortable during the first procedure.
Beth. I'm looking forward to seeing all the pretty garden pictures. Those flowers were beautiful. I wished I had a hobby I loved as much as you do yours. I used to do a lot of pet sitting, but as time goes by things have changed. I have gotten too old to keep up with the younger dogs, and all the older ones went over The Rainbow Bridge. 😣
Take care all, your all in my prayer's. Hugs Zetta

Hi everyone —
I saw @JeriLynn66 's post about the goats and had to say something! I'm honored! I'm a Capricorn, with all of those traits (so I've been told), so goats aren't far off my track. And I like goats for a whole host of reasons.
This is my first post here - hope it's okay that I've poked my head into this thread. I've actually been on the site since 2019, joining less than a year after my younger sister Peggy was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and FTD. She passed away this last March. That whole period of time was just a nightmare, but I don't have to tell you that - you know. It took until a couple of months ago for me to feel like myself again. And Peggy is still gone. ☹️
A little about me so that I'm not a complete stranger — I'm on the west coast. I'm a native Californian (from southern California), although right now, my husband and I live in Washington state. We like it, but we'll be moving back to California probably within the year. I've spent most of my life in northern CA, and still consider myself a San Franciscan. I still have friends and family in southern CA and go back to visit when I can. The fires have been truly devastating.
And yes, I really am a goth, and like most goths, I'm fairly friendly. My gothic sensibilities are pained when people describe my personality as "sunny", but if I'm being honest, I probably am that. I still go to goth clubs - thankfully the gothic community skews older, so I'm not out of place.
I hope everyone is doing well! I know many of you on the east coast are dealing with frigid temperatures so be careful. It's cold where I am - we're all the way up to 39 degrees today. At least there's a bit of sun right now.

Hi, GG. I am not entirely sure what a goth is, but it sounds like fun. I have been reading your posts for years and you are entirely welcome here as far as I am concerned.
Beth, your flowers are beautiful. We have clay soil here too, mixed with limestone rocks. I dig up the clay, remove the rocks, and mix it with sand and compost for flower beds.
Lorita, I make veggie chili the easy way. I buy one can each of black beans, red beans, corn, and tomatoes and mix it all together with McCormick chili powder to taste. DW thinks it's "just awful" so I eat it all myself over a period of about three days. Rice would work as well as the corn, and sometimes I use pinto and kidney beans instead of black and red. My Texas cousins think chili is tomato juice with chili pepper and meat and call mine "Carl's vegetable soup" but I don't care.
David, Hooters makes the best grilled chicken breast sandwich I ever had. It is a large, soft breast with onions, peppers, and mushrooms like a Philly cheese steak. The waitresses are pretty cute too. Our Hooters used to have a car wash on hot days, putting on bikinis and crawling all over the cars with sponges while we ate lunch. I never had mine washed because I didn't want to be jealous of my own car😀 I haven't been there in years. You go and have a good time in my place.
Judith, I think you should go ahead with a Ph.D. if that's what you want to do. Why not? Learning is like faith and gardening; it's not something you ever finish. Rather, you work on it all your life.
JeriLynn, bring on those goat pictures. The babies are cute, and that old ram with one broken horn looks like he's been a fight or three. I don't know beans about goats, but I like seeing them.

HB, that Thai food sounds good. I used to go to a Thai restaurant with a friend who was stationed in Thailand during the war. He spoke to the waiters in Thai and they took real good care of us.

I think we should take care of the Earth. Other planets have water and oxygen, but only the Earth has ice cream.

Good morning
Lorita i’m still making flatbread/tortillas. I can’t tell a whole Lotta difference in the recipes or how they taste. I have been wearing lots of layers too. I got a little warm today but I guess my thinking is why stop wearing them now Monday and Tuesday it’s not supposed to get out of the single digits for the high so there you go.
I made some potato soup for lunch yesterday. I hadn’t made that in a long time turned out pretty good.
Zetta i am glad you are back on the porch too.

Sounds like I will have a good time and food.
Have been watching my weight and have lost 1.2 lbs last week
1 -
Morning, it is as cold as kraut in Oklahoma, but it is sunny! Got all my layers on, Mint.
Welcome to the front porch, GG. Sorry about your sister. I know how you feel because both my sister and our mother had alzheimers. I lost my.mother 28 years ago and my sister four years ago.
The first three hostages, three young women, have just been released. Back later.

PhD is a no go I have to speak a second language fluently. They do not care which one.

Port Aransas Texas. Beachside RV park.
Traveling to Houston today. SIL and her husband, DH and I.

I bet you all are having lots of fun, JeriLynn. Looks like you all could spend hours in that store. Was going to ask where Port Aransas is but see you're going to Houston, so it's east of there.
Are you going to Galveston? At my high school the seniors always took a trip to Galveston but that ended before I was a senior. Hope it is warmer there.
I went out on the porch to feed the.birds and even though it took five minutes my hands were freezing. It's 23 with a brisk north wind and wind chill of 16. I have a vet appointment tomorrow for the GPs but going to.postpone it until Wednesday when it should be 47. Darwin is going to help me get Sheena in the car so don't want to get him .out in the cold, or me and the GP s either. Enjoy your trip!!

Just waiting for the first measurable snow of the season 4 plus inches. after being a mailman for 37 years and living at the VA home I do not have to go out in the weather anymore.

Afternoon!
We are nearing Houston where we will spend the night and visit a restaurant claiming to have the best country fried steak in all of Texas! I’ll let you know if it’s better than what I make 😂
@GothicGremlin Both my daughters are Capricorns! I used to live in Yakima Washington and did a year long Interim Directorship in Fairfield CA.
Lorita we will go over and visit Galveston. The campground in Port Aransas is expecting a freeze. I never worry about any kind of weather or conditions because DH is so handy and capable. And BIL is a Sheriff’s Deputy who is an experienced camper. We have propane capabilities and water stocked so we should be fine. And I brought fixins to make a big pot of chili 😂 Ground chuck, pinto, chili, red and white beans all go in the pot. It’s filling.
HB, wine or beer? Is Chardonnay the best choice for Thai cuisine? I rarely eat that so not sure?
Mint, my daughter in Ohio reports snow again in Washington Court House.
I’m rocking and rolling in this RV what with all this wind.. I’ll BBL

Hello Front Porchers
Hi. GG. Welcome to the front porch. It's been awhile since I have seen you post. I did follow the ups and downs, you and Peggy had. Peggy, was so blessed to have a sister like you, you gave her a lot of loving care.
Ron, thanks for saying good morning, its always nice hearing from you.
JeriLynn. That looks like a very happy picture. I see your in a happy store, a lot to look at. Please let us know about the Country Fried Steak. I bet you will like yours better.
I hope your all having a good Sunday. Hugs to all Zetta

Hi, I have watched two football games today and it was snowing in each. I love to watch them play in the snow. One was in Philadelphia and the second in Buffalo. Started the PU and car, fed birds, cut ice in both water tanks and made the stoop. Of course, Fed the GPs and cat
Eagle, it's looking like the Chiefs will play the Bills next week. I was hoping the Ravens would win but they're behind eight points with under four minutes to play.
I think I may go to bed before long. Sleep well everyone.

Hey (that's California-speak for "hi") -
Thank you for the welcome!
Lorita - I poke my head in here once in awhile and I'll confess I'm never sure what kinds of animals you have. Do you have cows?
Carl - Here's the best I can do on "what is a goth?" This page talks about just that. It also has links to music that we all listen to. I agree with the statement that goth is something you are, not something you become. And if I had to label myself, I'd fall into the sub-genre of "romantic goth." And since I'm older, and try to be age appropriate in what I wear (I wouldn't wear that dress in the photo), that category is a good fit for me. And it's what I like.
David - I've only been to Boston a few times. My most memorable trip there was during a blizzard in the earlier '90s. It was sometime between 1992-1995. I'd never been through anything like that before! The second time I went there (in 2001) there was another blizzard! The third time I went was in May or so a few years later, and I could actually pay attention to the city, and not to my feet to make sure I didn't slip and fall in the ice and snow.
JeriLynn - That store looks amazing! And wait, when is Easter?? I see Peeps on the shelf in the bottom lower left corner of the photo. We haven't even had Valentine's Day yet!
LadyZetta - Thank you! We all gave Peggy as much love and attention as possible. She was just petrified most of the time, so anything we could do to make her life better is what we did.

Good morning.
It's cold here at Chez Buzz. It snowed all day yesterday leaving us with a very light 4" after all the hype and craziness on TV. DS will head out with the snowblower at a reasonable hour. We've nowhere to go, so why annoy people?
Mint— I do love some schnitzel— Jager or Hunter are my favorites ideally with pork. Chicken is great with the more Italian treatments of parmigiana or some kind of lemony goodness.
Funny your mom needing a say in the renovations. My dad did that. During his hospitalization he kept telling the doctors and nurses about his plans to knock down the wall between his room and the next, install hardwood floors and install a bay window to take advantage of the view.
Judith— Did you ever find your interesting peppercorns? I like Tellicherry for my big grinder but have white on hand in the smaller one for things like tuna salad or cream soups. There's a spice store at the Reading Terminal where I usually stock up when I go downtown for a haircut or appointment. Their chili powders are also worth a visit. Penzy's is another good source.
I'mcurious, nosy, in what subject were you considering a PhD? It's a huge commitment in terms of time and potentially money if you aren't funded. Of course, that adds and additional layer of things to manage. I completed a degree in my mid-40s and found a considerable amount of ageism which was pretty ugly.
Ron— Now that they know the source of your neck pain, is there anything they can offer you in terms of relief?
Lorita— It sounds like "it takes a village" applies as much to cows as it does children. Do you have any preference for who you'd like to see play opposite your Chiefs in the Superbowl?
As always, I'd favor an Eagle's victory if only to watch the locals behave badly. Eagles fans are next level. Go Birds.
Zetta— I am sorry about having to redo your posts. Yikes. I hope the second time is the charm. My mom loves hers and I hope you have the same outcome with this second try.
Beth— I'm glad you were able to bring a couple of sentimental plants along with you to the new home. I can't wait to see what you create in your new space. I feel your pain on the clay soil— we've got a mix of clay and rocks. It's worse in the backyard as dad got into a fight with the clown who did the grading of the land— he moved all the topsoil to the neighbor's yard. 40 years on, they still have a hump in the middle of the backyard and mine lies lower than either side.
Loveskitties— You sound busy. Your creations are cute. Do they command high prices at the craft fairs? So often I see beautifully made things sold for very little.
Eaglemom— It sounds like you're quite the football fan as well.
David— Do you live in the State Veterans Home? The one near us, many of the activities are funded by local American Legion Posts and VFWs. A couple of the boys from DS's Troop did Eagle Scout Service Projects there as well. It was my top choice for dad but the waiting list was too long for our needs.
G'gremlin— Nice to see you here.
Carl— I don't know how authentic Thai this place is. They also have very nice sushi and a few traditionally Cantonese dishes. Plus, the usual server we get looks just like Greta Thunberg, lol. But I enjoyed my Drunken Noodles and Ginger Salad.
Jerilynn— Is that a Cracker Barrel? An excellent choice for a meal while traveling. Or just because. For the record— most would recommend beer for Thai— especially for something with some real heat. My friends tend to prefer wine. It brought an Oregon Gewurztraminer. I made the trip to a PA Premium Wine & Spirits location and they only had 2 on offer. And neither was from Alsace which would have been my first choice. The Oregon was highly rated, but disappointing. For the same price— and less driving— I could have picked up an amazing beer. My friend did bring a nice Chardonnay. I ordered my dinner at a 2 out of 5 heat level so I could barely taste it.

I dodged a bullet this week. I was supposed to take mom to see a friend who is likely dying from CHF. She's been in and out of the hospital since Thanksgiving and was in rehabs between. She contracted COVID and is hospitalized for complications. Mom's had COVID once and did "ok" but given the current state of her lungs this could have been terrible for her. She's a month out of the hospital and still on 2l. oxygen when moving around. The last I tested her on room air, she slipped into the 80s.
Be well-

HB, daughter tries to keep prices reasonable for the size and amount of detail.
She likes to cater to the kids so always has many different types in the $5 - $10 range so they can get parent to spring for it…lol.
The holiday shows are where she will bring in the bigger more expensive ones. Overall her price range is $5 - $30…once in a while she will make a few higher.
Daughter is very good at getting supplies for best price and always a coupon so she can keep pricing in good range.
Most expensive was a bespoke graphgan that I did which was very detailed…sold it for $125.
I also did a charity donation graphgan for an animal rescue…it brought $450 at auction.
The crafting is something which I enjoy and gladly donate my time to. For daughter it is extra income over her regular job.

Good morning front porch friends!
21 degrees this morning in Louisiana, I know you northerners wish you had 21. It's up to 27 right now and suppose to get diwn in the 10s tonight.
I have a video conference call with neurosurgeon Thursday, so hopefully will find out more about my neck. I don't remember if I mentioned this already but, when I had the neck ct scan they noticed upper lung had ground class with changes from ct scan 3 months ago and also a small nodule. They have now ordered a ct scan of my chest the 28th, which is the same day of my bone scan. I'm probably more concerned about my lungs than my neck pain. Ive had oxygen drop as low as 78 with slight exertion, but it always goes back over 90 within 2 or 3 minutes.
Im going to make some homemade vegetable beef soup this morning where I can eat a couple of days on it and freeze some.
Ron

Morning, cold here, 22 degrees with wind chill of 6 but right now sun is shining. May have clouds and a light snow later.
JetiLynn, our weatherman says Houston may have snow! Be careful.
I changed the GPs appointments to tomorrow. Darwin is going to town today so didn't want to get him out again to help me get Sheena in the car.
HB, it does take a village or one or two very dedicated people to care for the girls. No matter the weather, their feed and water comes first. Charles and I did it for about 25 years and then I continued for another six years by myself with Mike setting out the hay.
GG, I did run cattle until the terrible winter of 2020. I sold the cows (we called them girls) to our vet and leased the land to him. They are still here so I get to watch and worry about them. I am not entirely out of the cattle business though. I still own Billy the Bull! He is a steer with visual impairment. His mother watched after him until I lost her a few years ago. I didn't want him to leave here because he's familiar with the pastures.
I have two Great Pyrenees, Sheena who will be 11 soon and Stormy who will be 10. Sheena came to live with me when she was a year old, just two or three months after I lost Charles. Stormy came a month later when he was seven weeks old - so Sheena raised him. Also have three cats, Max and Lilly and their son Sammy. Everyone gets along pretty well. Time for hot tea and breakfast. Back later.
