I wrote this essay to help others after losing my father to a long battle with Alzheimer's.
After losing my father to a long battle with Alzheimer's, I wrote this essay to help people navigate through the devastating journey of having a loved one with Alzheimer's, because it is the family and those closest to the individual with the disease who bear the greatest burden.
Most people find themselves thrust into this nightmare completely unprepared and ill-equipped, just as we were. Helping others through this means the world to me, so I hope this helps you in a multitude of ways. Also, please share the essay in any capacity possible, not only to raise awareness, but to specifically draw attention to the red flags and signs of Alzheimer's, given that there are many people at this very moment who have a family member with dementia, yet do not realize it.
Thank you so much,
Darren Keith

Great essay. Thank you for taking the time and sharing.

So much resonates with me. Even though my DH is in the early stages of ALZ, he is not the person I knew so well. Each day a bit more of him changes in ways that challenge every aspect of our life together.

Thank you for sharing. Every word resonated with me. Twenty five years ago I helped care for my mother in law with Alzheimer’s. Now I’m caring for my husband. The difficulty of watching them disappear slowly before your eyes is the saddest part for me. A slow grieving process. I will share your essay.

I'm glad so much resonated, but so sorry about your loved one and situation.

Thank you for your message and I am glad it so deeply resonated with you. More importantly, I am so sorry about both your mother and husband…and for the situation you once again find yourself in. I am sending all my best.
Also, thank you for sharing the essay…the more people that see it, the more it can help.
