Memory card financing

hi community, just wanted to get advice on how to finance your DH staying at a memory care facility. Does insurance cover that?

We do not have long-term care insurance, so I don't know what that would cover. DH's medical insurance does not cover it, nor does Medicare. Medicaid is accepted at a few locations, but requirements to qualify are strict and there is no guarantee of getting a Medicaid bed even at a facility that has them.

So, in short, it's grim. We are fortunate that we both had retirement accounts. In one year we spent all of his, and now we are working off mine.

My strong advice is to find a Certified Elder Law Attorney to talk over your options. They can also advise you on getting Power of Attorney and other steps you should take in preparation. It's expensive but worth it.

Definately talk to an elderlaw attorney like Jazzma said. My DH went into MC a year ago and the elderlaw attorney was a Godsend. I live in Missouri and she guide me every step of the way to get him certified for Medicaid. Each state has different requirements and the attorney will know what they are in your state. I did have to private pay for several months until I could get all the paperwork gathered and turned in. Don't count on the MC facility guiding you through the process. To find an elderlaw attorney, go to nelf.org.
