Took part in Alzheimers Research study

My father clearly had some form of dementia but didn't get an actual diagnosis, it was just described as senile dementia. I have never had a great memory, but it was getting worse. I recently participated in a research study looking for the biomarker for Alzheimers. Blood tests showed I have the biomarker for Alzheimers. MRI's showed possible amyloid plaques on my brain. I just joined another study testing the IV treatment for the plaques. I hope I get the real medication Donanemab and not the placebo. Meanwhile, life goes on. I'm 68, spent my entire working life as a case worker/social worker always trying to find the solution to problems. Its working in my favor now. Trying to get my brother (In the UK) into a study to see if he has the biomarker too.

    Hi BrittinGA - Wow! That's really something…

mother has alz, and I'm not sure I wish to know my biomarker indications. There are pros and cons to knowing. You would like the real meds, then God Bless, I hope you get it.

Both Leqembi and Donanemab have FDA approval now, so if you have a diagnosis for MCI you should be able to get the real thing and not risk getting the placebo. Some trials are looking at earlier treatment before diagnosis. It is expensive but if you have insurance and can get a diagnosis you can avoid the risk of not getting treated for a year during the trial.
