I came across this article on the website for the National Council of Dementia Minds My wife has an interview in June with a service dog organization and we’re hoping to get one soon. We’ve been volunteering with the organization and having a great time so far.

We have an older German shepherd that chose my husband as her person. He loves that dog and her health is failing. I was very concerned about bringing another dog into our home being unsure of his changing moods. In January a friend of mine recently diagnosed with dementia asked if I could take her 2 year old shepherd I had met once. Her daughter was there to take her to live with her and they were flying out the next day. I was quite stressed, but said yes and told my husband. I picked her up the next day. What an absolute blessing she has been for me. My partner. But when we are home she curls up with my husband and he loves it. She checks on him in the mornings and is very alert to his sounds. If he’s in distress, she lets me know immediately. I hope you find what you are looking for and it works out.
