I have wasps but checking pics of nests probably not mud daubers.

Having an almost dead elm taken down next week. There are bees which will be carefully moved first.

Stay in the house while they take the bees and tree, Judith. You don't want.to get stung. We had a big hollow tree years ago that had a hive in it. Our neighbor had bees and be collected them but got stung several times . By the time he finished his eyes were almost swollen shut.

Been a long day. Chiefs had a good game, Eagle. I also like the Ravens and am sorry Lamar Jackson got hurt.

    Sleep well, good night.

Thanks Carl and Judith - I bet both me and my s.o. would like the Bourbon sauce. He'd probably have it on chicken, but I could see it on tofu, maybe with broccoli, or some other sturdy vegetable.

Beth and HB - I'm a disappointment to myself - I pluck my eyebrows sometimes. Sometimes not. I've just never been disciplined enough to deal with them. I always just kind of hope that no one notices.

HB - I've thrown more than a few rolls of TP at the screen at Rocky Horror. And periodically one of the DJs at Death Guild will play The Time Warp, and everyone knows it, and does it. The twenty-somethings have no idea what us Elder Goths are doing. 😄

Iris - I've never seen Frasier, believe it or not. But I bet it was good!

Zetta - Thinking of you - bet you're getting excited to move.

Last day for us in Geyserville. We went to Hanna for our wine tasting. It was really good. We started with the Sauvignon Blanc - just as good as always.

Here's a photo of the Hanna building on the inside:

    Hanna 2025.jpg

    Pretty building.

After that we went to the Mercury tasting room and hung out with a couple of the staff there. We tasted a couple of things that they didn't have out yesterday (their new Syrah - yum), and then they quizzed us about what we liked and what we didn't like about the blending party. Then they gave us more info about Jose, the paella guy. I love that in addition to everything he does, he also donates a portion of his profits to the local Veterans association, and then hosts a free breakfast for veterans every Sunday. We need more people like him, in my opinion.

Here's a photo of our handiwork at the blending party yesterday:

    Blending Party-2025.jpg

See the yellow and blue dots on the carafes? The yellow one was the Cabernet Sauvignon, and the blue one was the Cabernet Franc. You can't really see it in the photo, but we had graduated cylinders to measure out our wines. The wine in those glasses are three separate blends. We ended up going with the blend on the far left. And you sip those, you don't drink everything in the glass. (I couldn't do that even if I tried)

Tomorrow we go to San Francisco, about an hour and a half from here. Then Death Guild tomorrow night in person. We'll take our former neighbor out for breakfast on Tuesday morning, and then be on our way home. Fingers crossed that V's Alzheimer's hasn't progressed too much.

Fourteen-year-old me wants to make an exhaustive list of naughty words to see what our host deems inappropriate.

I may need to pound an extra cup of tea this morning to wake up. I need to get mom's to her psychiatrist's appointment at 10am. I hate morning appointments; this was meant to be 1:30pm but they rescheduled.

Morning, very warm day on tap. I loved the Dick Ban DELETED show. Wish they would be reruns,- probably is somewhere. No rat's nest under open hood. I closed it to go mail a letter. Ordered Grandpa Gus repellant - hope it works for both vehicles.

I Remember a couple of Government shutdowns. Our hospital didn't close- doctors, nurses and some clerical personnel stayed.. I think I wss off two or three days. There has been continuing resolutions many times in the past.

    Good afternoon all.

I'm finally taking time to check in on everyone & share about DH.

Lorita you probably heard me cheering on the Chief's. Patrick had his game going yesterday. The stadium was rockin.

HB if I thought a hospital stay would get this dang cough under control I'd be pushing for it. Now he'd hate it. I will say, they have him on a massive amount of prednisone, hoping that will flip the switch for him. He's having a CT of his lungs tomorrow. Frankly I don't see how he can get his neck in a position, but he wants to try.

We've had several beautiful, all be them warm, days here. I don't seem to be getting anything done. Hmm, I wonder why? 😉I did finally get through to the pulmonologist's nurse. Dec 23rd @ 4:30 for his next appt. She said they really "like" for the PCP's to handle everything and then they just make certain the patient is doing well. I didn't care for that answer. Dryer is beeping and Madison is confused. She's doing her 5:00 dinner dance at 4:00!! When I get up she's really going to be disappointed!

    Let's be safe everyone.

HB and Carl, I am pretty sure that someone has written that dirty word list and programmed it into the underpinnings of this site already. How do I know? Well, I have been dinged twice by it. The first time I was trying to post about Beth’s pristine garage floor. I described it using the name of a common household cleaner — blank ‘n span— and it dinged the first word. The second time was when I tried to post about a toy dog designed for PWD that someone had put in my husband’s bed at the hospital. This dog is designed for you to put both hands inside his tubular body, making him a rhymes-with-ruff. I got dinged again.
I had a good laugh, because I launched a big family-oriented web site for a major media company in 1996, and one of the last tasks before flipping the switch was coming up with this list. We called it a dirty-word filter. Anything with sexual overtones, or any pejorative names, wound up on it. My managers and I sat in my office with the team from LA, and our lawyer, on a conference line. People named all the words they could think of, and they went on the list. There were a lot of pauses, followed by the question, “What’s THAT?” We also built a recipe engine so people could post them, and when we went live, the site refused to allow people to post muffin recipes. So thanks for the memories. Writing that was a pretty funny exercise.

I can use the laugh, because this will be a hard week for me. The first anniversary of my husband’s death is Saturday, and there are many bad memories on many different days. I am just trying to get through it.

Iris, it sounds like you are slowly getting better. I am glad.

GG, Wish You Were Here was one of my husband’s favorite albums. And that wine-blending exercise looks epic.

And Lorita, it seems you have as many problems with rodents as we doing NYC. We actually have someone whose job title is rat czar. I am not making this up.

Hope everybody has a good day.

Tigersmom, just one of the downsides of living in the country but I wouldn't trade it for the world. Maybe Grandpa Gus can help.

I remember the first anniversary of losing Charles. It is hard but just think of the good memories. After a while I think we tend to remember good things and forget the bad. God helps us.

HB - Anything that happens in the morning is difficult. We're supposed to be asleep in the morning. 11am. Now there's a fine time to wake up — still technically morning, but not such an ungodly hour.

tigersmom - The first year is really hard. I haven't lost a spouse, but losing my parents, and then my sister, those were all hard, especially the first year. Like Lorita said, as time has gone by, my memories are now a little softer, and that's true with Peggy too, even though it's only been a year and a half since she passed away.

I guess for me it's kind of situational. When we left Geyserville today, we passed a lot of wineries and other places where we've gone with Peggy in the past. Remembering those past times was definitely bittersweet.

Wish You Were Here just never gets old. Did your husband know that Shine On You Crazy Diamond is about Syd Barrett (former lead singer and songwriter)? I was glad they gave him such a wonderful tribute, but it's definitely sad.

I was kind of stunned by the censoring of the name of such a legend. Has no one running this site ever seen Mary Poppins or any of the other bazillion of things he's been in? Still, I'm glad he's out there and still going strong. If I make it to 99 years old, I hope I'm still able to go to the gym and work out on all the machines!

His TV show was one of my aunt's favorites, so of course I watched it too. I was too young for it, so a lot of the humor went over my head. I do remember him tripping over the ottoman. 🙂

We're in SF now, getting ready to go to Death Guild. I'm hoping for a good night!

Good morning. Still dark here with a warm and cloudy day ahead.

Eaglemom— Good luck with the CT scan today. I hope you get answers and an actionable plan for some relief. I'm sorry you don't feel supported by the pulmonologist's office. We've lucked out with mom's pulmo who is the perfect combination of proactive and reassuring.

Does your DH tolerate the prednisone well? Both my mom and MIL have been on long-term prednisone for vasculitis and mom situationally for pneumonia. Both had issues with side effects in terms of mood beyond about 10mg daily. Mom on 120mg daily IV is next-level awful.

Tigersmom— I'll be thinking of you as you get through this anniversary week. I found, with time, my mom's happier memories of dad outnumber the sadder and more difficult ones.

I always chuckle at the title Rat Czar especially when coming across it in a serious story. The city that gave us all Pizza Rat needs one.

Your story about creating your site's no-fly list reminded me of the classic Betty White SNL skit. Linked below, she looks like she's really enjoying herself with it.

Gothic G— I'm not much of a night owl these days and I don't hate mornings, but I do not like to have to rush about to be somewhere on time before noon. I like to putter about. Do a little laundry, hang out here, finish the crossword, maybe do some Pilates or strength work, prep dinner, etc before venturing out.

Lorita— I hope Grandpa Gus does the trick for your rat problem. Let us know how it goes; I generally have field mice sneak in come fall.

    ___________________________________________________________________

So, mom saw her psychiatrist yesterday. Mom shared her concerns about her memory lapses and word-finding issues and the psych told her that psych is not concerned because "everybody forgets a word/name now and then" and "she's well-dressed and on time for her appointments". There is a great deal of overlap between ADHD symptoms and MCI and the psych thinks that's what I'm seeing. I'm thinking female-dog, please. Mom has these conversations devoid of names and then segues into talking about someone else entirely leaving me to ask— who are we discussing now? At dinner Sunday she completely forgot dad was allergic to crab; she was telling a story about how irritated dad would get with his mom who ordered Crab Imperial every time she saw it on a menu. The story makes no sense without the part about dad getting salty when others ate crab, which he loved, in front of him. She was pretty unfiltered at dinner as well but that might have been the Chardonnay talking.

The doctor did say that if "daughter" has concerns, I can call her, and we can talk. I consulted Dr. Google and came across this piece about ADHD and MCI which describes a lot of what I am seeing.

I need at least one more cup of tea. The carpenter is coming to start the repairs ahead of the painter coming. He'll be here at 9am. I should probably shower before he gets here.

I hope everyone has a safe day.

I hope Grandpa Gus does help, too. I saw it was shipped from somewhere in Missouri.but not supposed to.get here until Friday or Monday,- don't get that.

Having some discomfort in my LLQ so hope.it isn't a recurrence of diverticulitis.I'm very careful about what I eat,no seeds or nuts but I did eat a coup!e of fig bars a day or two ago. I have Flagyl but won't take it until I'm sure.

I need some juice and hot tea so will stop for now. Hope everyone has a good day and appointments go well.

    Good afternoon

    beautiful day here .

I don’t think we’ve heard from Ron in a while hope I’m wrong. There are a lot of posts anymore, which is good, but I have a little trouble keeping up with all of you sometimes lol.

    hope everyone is feeling better.

when I was in Kroger‘s today, I stopped at the pharmacy and asked what Covid vaccines they have available. They have all three. I was happy about that. Had a very good experience last year with Novavax , but was afraid maybe I couldn’t get it this year. They told me I didn’t need a prescription and it would cost me nothing.

hope each of you have a pleasant day

Had a rather busy morning. Gary came and fixed the doors and steps.. Also screwed the shutters closed until he can get new hinges. He found out what is wrong with the stall. He can't shovel.but his neighbors son can, he said He will be back early next week. He is going to have bilateral hip replacements. First one around the first of the year.

Darwin's daughter took him to.Triad this morning. He had to have laser surgery for bleeding of the macula in one eye the end.of next month They left his wife.at home asleep so I went over to.check on her and she was still sleeping.. Still was when th

I only watched a bit of the speeches - could.not take anymore. It was like a teacher laying down the law to a bunch of kids. I can only imagine how the Top Brass felt. That .cost us milions of dollars to fly all of the military leaders in. Those millions could have fed a lot of hungry kids. Feeling a little better this afternoon so maybe I just slept in the wrong position. It's kind of funny I.have the door to the sunroom and the kids are drifting in to.inspect. The doors to that room have 15 panes of glass but I guess looking in is.not the same as going in. Still have three coats in there that I.hope Bryon can wesr. I need to call him to mow.

Stormy just told me someone was outside - it was Darwin's daughter bringing me a plate .of food. Haven't had tater tots for years.

Time for Wagon Train, Zetta! .Oh, I bet she is on her way to Idaho tight now.

Good afternoon. Just a quick check in. DH might be coughing, but he still wants his dinner!

They were able to do the CT scan, thankfully. He said the tech was very kind to him, which I like to hear. Now we wait on the results. His blood results came in today. The only thing that was flagged was his white blood count. It was only slightly elevated, and probably caused by the prednisone. There was a note to keep out appointment with the pulmonologist. He can't cough nonstop until Dec 23rd. Something will have to change. What this probably means is the PCP is 'referring us on, which is a huge disappointment. But when he's sick / coughing I'm still taking him to the PCP!!!

Have a good night everyone. Let's be safe everyone. More in the morning.

I don't blame you, Eagle, I would take him, too. December is way too long to wait for an appointment. I.hope he is better soon.

Darwin has had a bad, long three hours at the eye clinic so I.hope he can sleep well tonight.

I'm afraid I may be having a diverticulitis flare so only liquids for three days- dread that but will lose those three pounds I gained. Hard way to do it.

Ready for bed, so good night, sleep tight.

    Good morning front porch friends!

I'm sorry for not posting in awhile, a lot has been going on and still going on. It's good that we are not all together right now, i might have to get up and run (im drinking a preparation for a upper and lower GI this afternoon). I've been busier than usual lately; DIL and my birthday celebrations; we went to Branson for a dinner/comedy show. Brother and SIL visited and we drive to a Casino in Oklahoma. SIL brought me a jar of fig preserves from their fig tree and I couldn't wait to open it. Reminded me of when I was young, we had two fig trees in our yard. My grandmother use to stand by the trees and eat several right from the tree. Always had fig preserves on the table for breakfast.

OK, I better go try to finish off the prep; still have the high resolution CT scan and pulmonary function test next Monday and also cardiologist next month. I'll be glad when im able to think of other things besides dr and hospital visits
