I have several.big picture albums. Pictures going back from.before I was born... At that time we had a.big family so many.pictures of all of them. Most have names on the back but not many dates. Guess it doesn't matter because when I leave this life all of them will go into the dumpster. I have a lot of pictures in the computer but most all are .of cows, calves, dogs, cats, trees and flowers so of no interest to anyone but me.
That is a really cute picture, Judith.

I remember dBase, and mouse clicking. I was a management analyst in the early 1980s and was issued a portable computer that weighed about 40 pounds, but it wasn't really portable because it wasn't wireless and I had to hardwire it to the printer. Our first mice rolled on little balls because the mice didn't have lasers yet, and the balls wore out and the mice had to be replaced. Our system administrator showed me a really cute, naughty memo about replacing mouse balls that was circulating among the SAs. I loved dBase because it would graph the data and I could discontinue the old method that involved patterned tape on a sheet of graph paper. That portable computer had about one megabyte of RAM, probably less computing power than the key fob of my car, but it was an enormous improvement over a calculator and graph paper.

Good afternoon! I'm still walking and talking, just going through a lot of different medical issues right now. I still read daily and well aware if my friends needing prayers.

Good afternoon, Ron. Good to hear from you.
Judith, double clicking is really hard if your hand trembles. That is a really cute picture.

I'm having a very frustrating day not getting anything done without "double, double, toil and trouble"!!!!
I wonder if the moon is about to be full??? Ahh, yes. On the 7th.
My computer is already acting up, the grandkids are all crazy, I've been on the phone with them all day, two greatgrands have viruses, and now their Aunt has it (she is not a Mother herself so maybe she has an excuse?) NO - because she cleaned up vomit without gloves ??? !!!!!🙄😮😣 The word I would use would get deleted so I will say ROCKS for brains. I love them, I really do. But gee whiz….
Customer service on the phone is no better. I spent 30 minutes on the phone with a service rep I could barely understand and still couldn't get my issue fixed. I'll just go into town next week since this week is already full.
DH asked me to call the County to see about a burn permit. AGAIN. No, I will not. I called them last year and all you have done is add to the pile. Here's the phone number and the latitude/longitude coordinates you will need. You call.
The good news. My house is clean. The laundry is done. I finally got a mani/pedi on Monday. DH got his tractor parts and has been out burning most of the day and out of my hair - which I have scheduled to have cut tomorrow. It is so hard to find some "me time" but at my age, I have to have routine preventative maintenance!
Rant over. 🤐 I hope you each are safe and are having the best day possible under any/all circumstances😄😘

Speaking of computers; how many remember floppy drives for storing information?
Ron

I'm here, still coughing and sniffling, but less.
Hang in there, Ron! It's no fun being sick and it takes up a lot of time that could be used for something fun.
HB, yes people in contact with high-risk people should be prioritized for Covid and other respiratory infection vaccines ( influenza, RSV, pertussis) and continue hygienic precautions.
I will check out the info on the mobile hot spots. Thanks for searching for me.
My neurologist changed my diagnosis from cognitive impairment not otherwise specified to adult ADD. When I have my appt in October, I will ask about Trintellix. I have been skeptical because I never had ADD characteristics as a child or young adult. My memory problems began in my mid thirties, got worse in my mid fifties.
You say you don't attend your mom's psych appt. Is there a specific reason? How did your mom get an ADD dx?
I never heard of a bulb digger, I can use one of those. One of my future projects will be to bury my cats' and rabbit' cremains in the soil beneath Simon's favorite hiding spot. The ground is dry and hard and will require some effort. The pet cemetery wants about $1400 to open a pet gravesite. I could spend that money supporting pet rescue efforts instead.
Isn't it good that AAA can supply a new battery tight then and there?
Beth, the main reason I am so disappointed to miss this trip is that this would be the first time that I would be traveling with my own little group of known friends. Usually I travel alone or I get paired with an unknown roommate. Now, I'm a friendly, easy-going person, so I can get along with a lot of people and I am clean and not obnoxious, so I believe I am a good roommate for travel. But to travel with people that I already know hasn't happened in a very long time, decades. We had planned to have so much fun together. I miss the companionship more than I miss the actual trip.
Regarding "Abandoned Iowa" I once saw a video of two homeless guys who had set up lodging in an empty storage area in a mall. During the day it was packed with people but at night it was empty except for the security guard. Much of the video was about how they managed to bring in supplies and how they avoided the security guard checks. They kept this up for over a year until they were discovered. It's amazing what people can find to do!
I have never seen nor heard of a Blackjack watermelon, we don't have them around here, only the striped ones. How do they taste?
Eagle, your DH is probably exhausted from so much coughing. I'm glad he's improving.
I do remember happy times with the family looking at photos of relatives and past vacations and holidays. We had shoeboxes full of photos, most unmarked, but my mother and grandmother would name everyone.
I have photos of my pets. I'll keep a few, most I'll discard.
Carl and Beth, I remember the mouse balls. They would get clogged with lint, then I had to take the mouse apart, wash and dry the ball and reinsert. What fun (not!). That was a long forgotten memory.
The weather is again wonderful for recuperating. I may try to take a walk today. So long.
Iris

Yes, Carl and Iris, I remember the mouse balls too. We've come a long way from the early computer days.
Iris, a Blackjack watermelon is very dark green. It tastes the same as the other melons. I'd never tried one so I wanted to. Another dark green melon is called Sugar Baby. I've not had one of those. Again, Iris, so sorry you missed your trip. I hope you have another opportunity to travel with friends.

FLOPPIES? I REMEMBER

Hello Front Porch Friends.
Your all so busy, I have a hard time keeping up with all of you.
Lorita. Iam watching Wagon Train right now, it's the one the old guys sells the 5000.00 violin for 200.00. In a poker game.
Iris. Im glad your starting to feel better. And sorry you will have to miss your trip, and your group of friends. . Do you have another trip planned, coming up?
Ron. I'm glad your still walking and talking. Please add some rest to that.
JeriLynn. Happy belated anniversary. I'm sorry your having a frustrating day. Take a few deep breaths, before getting on The phone with a service rep. Alot of them are really had to understand. Tomorrow will be a better day. I know how good it feels, when the house is clean and the laundry is done. It's time to sit down and relax.
Eaglemom. I bet your DH is glad the coughing has slowed down. At times i get coughing spells and they do wear me out. Someone here said something about putting a little bit of salt on your tongue then swallow and it will help stop the cough, it work for me.
The lease has been signed and the move in date, set for the house we will be moving into, in Bosie, Idaho. We will leave Arizona, on September 30th and a few days later arriving in Idaho. The moving van will also be leaving on ths 30th and get there about a week after us. My DD, is selling a lot of her older furniture, before we leave Arizona, so right now we have lawn furniture in our front room. It feels like we are camping out in the house. 🤣🤣🤣
I went to the doctor yesterday to get my wellness check, done and my prescriptions refilled, so I won't have to deal with that for awhile. To my surprise I'm very healthy and I have a heart of a 27 year old, I wish I felt like a 27 year old.
Take care all of you ❤️ Hugs Zetta

HB - omg, I'd forgotten all about Marathon Man! So no, I don't think about that when I go to the dentist. 😄 But Marathon Man reminds me of Three Days of the Condor, which is probably the scariest movie I've ever seen. Hellraiser only has Cenobites, Three Days of the Condor has Max von Sydow (who is way scarier).
I hate days when I get absolutely nothing done.
Beth - I bet the Abandoned Iowa page is interesting - it sounds interesting. The Life Without People episode I really liked was "The Last Supper" because it explored Taipei 101 (the 2nd tallest building in the world). It's 101 floors tall and has a tuned mass damper that helps keep the building from swaying in high winds. I enjoyed learning all about that.
Abandoned Iowa also reminds me (and Iris' post reminded me) of a small group of artists who lived in a secret mall apartment at a mall in Rhode Island. They created the apartment because they were able to take advantage of a quirk in the architecture of the building. They lived there for four years before they were discovered.
And congrats on getting rid of 10,000 photos - very impressive.
Carl and Beth - I remember at work (when I was a work-study student) we had "dumb" terminals that connected to the main computer (that was in its own separate building). We would get reports every morning about yesterday's work being updated to the systems. I also remember having to fill out paper forms for data entry. Those forms would also go to the computer center to be uploaded at the end of the day. It was definitely a different time!
I am so glad everyone has tons of photos! I'm not the only one!
Judith - I thought of you today. My s.o. found an article about Ansel Adams. Apparently there was a cache of lost California photos that he did, many of the University of California campuses, and more. I read through the article, it's quite interesting. Here's a link. A lot of photos are included in the article.
Very cute photo, btw.
JeriLynn - I hope you have a much better day tomorrow!!!
Zetta - I'm glad you're healthy and I'm glad you've got a move in date for Boise!
I had a good gym day today - lots of strength training, which means tomorrow will be a cardio day. Otherwise a fairly quiet day, which is nice.

I remember the floppy discs, the big 5.5" discs that actually flopped and the 3.5" discs that were contained in hard plastic cases that would fit in a shirt pocket. One day a group of us were going to lunch and a pretty young woman took the 3.5" diskette from her computer, held it erect, put a plastic protective sleeve on it, looked me in the eye and said, "Safe computing." I think she liked me.

Hi, Good news!! I.picked up the mail today when I came.home from town. Most if it was from my charities so didn't bother to.open them until I'm ready to.send in my contibutions. I just let Stormy in so brought the mail to the bedroom to check the rest of it. There wss a letter from a company I didn't recognize so opened it and there was the check for.payment of my refrigerator!! Good thing I opened it. I wss told to expect it in seven to.fourteen days. And, so the saga of the refrigerator ends after about nine weeks.. I know we are all glad it is over.
You know with the new one I purchased and put in the utility room plus the old one with a fast working freezer, things are pretty good. I can put things that need to just be coo! in the refrigerator part. So no hurry to replace it at the moment. No ice maker but I'm..okay with that. Now, to see if things can be worked out for the tv.
Today was a good day. Good night, sleep tight.

Yea, Lorita! That's great news.
Zetta. It's so nice to have the decisions finalized and packers lined up. I hope you can enjoy your last days in Arizona.
Carl, did you fantasize that story?
Regarding not being able to do what we used to do: the main problem is that with each decade we lose a degree of muscle mass. Thus by age 70 or 80, we just don't have the strength to do what we used to do with ease. The only way to compensate is to do what GG is doing, and that is to be intentional about strength training and maintaining muscle mass and building muscle. This can be done, with effort. Jack LaLanne was heavily muscled all of his life, and very strong. He did feats to show his extraordinarily strength on milestone birthdays.
I need to get on this because I am very weak, once I get over this Covid.

Iris, the floppy disc story is a true story. It is the whole story too, since I was married and didn't follow up on it.

Good morning all.
Beth— There are entire You Tube channels devoted to sneaking around in abandoned buildings. So creepy. Kudos to you for editing your pictures down to a mere 4000. Strong work.
Lorita— I'm so happy for you that for once the check is in the mail turned out to be true. I hope your peaches ripen nicely. They've been a mixed bag here, a few nice ones mixed with some that went from hard and tasteless to mushy and tasteless. As a kid, we had a peach tree out back and they were just amazing; alas now I have an oral sensitivity reaction to them raw, so I no longer partake.
Judith— Your meme is made all the more amusing given the demise of Internet Explorer in 2022.
Carl— I'm ashamed to admit the drill is still in the garage. I need to make sure it's the one I think it is and that there are no drill bits with it. I adore my DH, but the man has the worst case of Male Refrigerator Blindness. Every now and then I take a big old contractor's bag, load it up and toss it in the trash. It feels so good I should do it more often.
Your story about "safe computing" reminds me of something one of my scout-dad friends said. He's a commercial pilot and was relating a story about the olden days at work using the phrase "when sex was safe and flying was dangerous".
Ron— I hope you're feeling a bit better. I do recall the floppies. Now they only exist as an icon that probably makes no sense to the youngs.
Jerilynn— Does the word you would have used "____-for-brains" perhaps rhyme with my DELETED-for-tat?
Gothic G— You're probably old enough to recall walk-in registration for classes during which you lined up at various table to collect a keypunched card for a specific section of a class you needed to take. And then offering a silent prayer that the process would work as intended. Oh, that and test results listed by SSN for the sake of privacy. Crazy times.
Zetta— I'm glad you're young at heart. Clever of you to get a well check and prescriptions proactively so you can transition your care seamlessly. I hope you find a new PCP you like when you get to Boise.
When I moved my parents back to the area, I did get them set up with a new PCP and specialists as quickly as I could, but dad had a period of time coming out of the SNF/rehab when their doctor sent prescriptions to the local chain pharmacy. They filled those prescriptions as well as a few random drugs from another man with same name and birthdate which was exciting in the context of an agitated man with moderate dementia.
Iris— I don't attend mom's psych appointments (I did the first time at her request) for privacy reasons. Part of the appointment is talking about how things are going for her and I want her to be able to vent about me if she needs to. Mom has signed the HIPAA form, so if something came up the doc could reach out to me.
Mom's diagnosis came as the result of a detailed family history, a self-reported symptom screening ASRS and an interview with me describing what I saw at the first interview with the psych. Mom wanted to know if she did have it, so they did an evaluation. My older niece lived with me for a couple years after grad school to pay down her loans. I always thought she was spared the family ADHD because she's very bright, has great people skills and is very competent (like you I would guess) but living with her I saw she was kind of like the duck who seems to be gliding on the water but is kicking furiously below the surface. The bulb planter attachment is basically an auger (screw) bit that goes into a power drill.
______________________________________________________________________________________
Yesterday went sideways.I got to mom's at 10:30 to drive her to her psych appointment at 11:30. She swore her phone said the appointment was at 11:00. It can't; I maintain her appointment calendar by sharing it from my phone. But I agreed to drive right over. I got to the office at exactly 11:00 and sent her up to the appointment. I needed to text a friend and followed her after that. When I got upstairs to the office 5 minutes later, the place was empty except for the receptionist. Seems mom's psych was on vacation. They said they did leave 4 voicemails for her on 7/21 and 7/22. It would track that mom might not answer her phone if it were in another room, but I didn't see any record of the calls on the date they gave— no voicemail and no calls. I check her phone for messages and voicemails whenever I see her and never saw anything. Ugh. I need to call over there and see if I they might have left them on the landline she doesn't use for anything but locating her iPhone.
We left there and visited bestie who was babysitting the twins. They were sleeping when we arrived, so we took a peek and then toured her gardens. Then we had some tea and cookies and waited for the littles to stir. They were sleeping like champs. The new mom-mom wanted to get them up and show them off, but we told her not to mess with her daughter's instructions which was to wake and feed them at 2pm. The babies' mom was back by then and she graciously let mom hold them and even give a bottle to the girl. Mom loves babies and had the best time ever with these two. The boy even rolled over for the first time yesterday. Young sir does not like tummy time.
We have a fancy dinner in Princeton tonight for a friend's birthday. I got 2 more blood tests back. Both normal/negative. Still waiting on blood smears.

I didn't know it was on but caught the last 30 minutes of it.
Decided I would see what was in a couple of big boxes in the closet. It was almost all pants, mostly dress pants from when I worked and a couple of different sizes. I kept two pairs..Also found a pair of really cute, wedge heeled Bear Traps. Probably got those before or just after I injured my right hamstring and thought I couldn't wear them because of the strap around the back.
Finally got In touch with the Methodist Mission so if all goes well I will take these two boxes p!us a couple more and hanging coats, Sports costs and a suit that Charles wore one time down to them next week. They have someone to help unload.. I'll take it easy loading them. Will use the dolly to take the boxes out. I gave Several things to Bryon but he's a bit larger than Charles. Lots of those things are over 30 years old but still in style and in good shape. Someone can use them. I think they sell things for a dollar or two. Have never been in there but that's what I have heard. Went I drove by Wednesday the parking lot was full.
Time for Wagon Train, Zetta.

104, its crazy to be this hot. I'm glad I ran my errands first thing this morning.
Zip, zilch and nada to report, other than its 104 out!
More later. Let's be careful out there.

Quiet day here. Donated some coats and jackets to charity, lunched with an old friend. Got a spritz of rain last night, may get more tomorrow.
HB, I memorized my SSN by writing it on keypunched class cards every semester for five years. Key punch was an actual occupation in those days, and vocational schools offered classes in it. In fact, I carpooled to work with a woman who keypunched Phillips 66 credit card payments back in about 1970-1971. Your bill came on a punched card, and you snail-mailed the card back with a paper check or a money order. Young people look at me like I'm giving a recipe for buffalo stew when I tell them things like that.

Carl 😇!
HB, thanks for the info about your mom's diagnosis. I should probably do the ASRS myself. I never heard of that test.

HB, I did the ASRS test and my results do indicate the possibility of Adult ADD. Very interesting that my initial extensive neurocognitive testing did not point in this direction.

I assume you mean the hearing grilling the Secretary of Health and Human Sacrifice?

Hello Rockers.
Lorita. I'm glad you finally got the check and did not throw it away, thinking it was junk mail. I throw a lot of unopened junk mail away. I need too be more, careful, just in case someone sends me something. It's nice hearing that your refrigerator, problem has been solved. Donating cloths is good. I live in sweats, by ths time I can't ware them, I've wore them out. Sounds like Charles, had some nice things.
Eve. Did you ever find your outdoor kitty? I once had a particially feral cat, and she got away, I guess she did not like living inside.
JeriLynn. I hope your having a better, day. When I have a bad day, I enjoy a glass of wine, before bed. Sometimes, even on a good day.
Iris. I hope your feeling better today, getting rest and staying hydrated. I'm trying to enjoy my last few days (26) here in Arizona, I would if it was not so hot. We are on a flood warning today. It's. Crazy, when we get very little rain. We ha e been getting. It's of wind. I also remember Jack LaLanne.
HB. When I was a youngster, we had a cherry tree in out backyard, as kids we would try to eat them all, before the worms got in them. Little did we know, the worms were already in them. I still remember the stomach aches I would get. We will be taking all our critters, to the vet for check ups and shots if needed, so that's something else we won't have to do as soon as the moves, been made. I bet your mom, loved giving the bottle, to the baby. You take good care of your mother.
Carl. I also was a keypunch operator. I went to business college, after high-school and learned keypunch. I worked at DMV, in Sacramento, California. The office was very small, and we had those tube's running over head, carrying all these cards to where they needed to go, six months was enough for me, that was in 1964.
Have a good evening. Hugs Zetta

It was a busy day here! 8:30 was my exercise class, 9:30 was ladies' prayer group at church, 11:00 began pool day. It's the last pool day at my friend's pool - she gets it closed next week.
When I got home and showered I was just exhausted. I'm on the couch now reading and writing this note.
Have a good night's sleep. Here's to good health and happiness for all.

Zetta, it was a !ong haul with the refrigerator and I'm glad it's over. I don't think the tv thing can be worked out because I can't get a receipt.
Charles was a clothes horse and loved good shoes but wore cowboy boots mostly. There are a couple of things I can't part with that he loved to wear. Reminds me,- my grandpa, mothers dad, passed away seven months before I wss born and mother could not part with his overcoat. It was here as long as she was- 1996.
It has been really nice here the last two or three weeks, very unusual late August weather for Oklahoma. We may have rain and possibly storms in the morning.
I know you'll be.happier back closer to home. Zetta, I also went to Business College after high school. I had to get shorthand because it wasn't offered where I went go school.
Tomorrow will mark 64 years since Karen and I went to work at the VA Hospital. She wasn't quite 18 and I was barely 19. Hard to.believe it has been that long ago. Time goes fast.
You all have a good nights sleep. Good night.

LORITA…I GUESS YOU DID NOT ORDER THE TV ONLINE. YOUR CHECK OR CREDIT CARD SHOULD HELP WITH GETTING A RECEIPT. IF YOU USED A CREDIT CARD YOU CAN CONTACT THE CC COMPANY RE PAYMENT.
0 -
Judith, I did order it online using a credit card. I will check on that tomorrow…Items aren't itemized. But, thanks, had not thought of that. I'll look for that statement and/or contact the credit card company. I know I ordered other things at the same time. You have the best ideas.
