Interview a doctor?

Hello, Nice to meet you all-

I'm looking to pick a new primary or geriatric spanish speaking doc for my Mom (75) with early alzheimers when open enrollment happens for Medicare. But, I wish there was a way to interview them first before making them her doctor. Is that a thing? Is it weird to do that? Do people do that? What does one ask if so?

For context, we're in LA and i'm looking into UCLA doctors for her. Not many speak spanish it seems, but I'm looking for great bedside manner and compassion for her the most.
Side note- if anyone in LA (burbank/glendale/pasadena preferred) has suggestions that speak spanish outside of UCLA Health, please let me know. I'm desperate to find one close by with good reviews and speaks spanish :(

Thank you

You make a good point. Prospective parents get an appointment to interview pediatricians, but that doesn't seem to be the case for anyone else.

I would think the UCLA site listing physicians would include languages spoken; my mom's got docs affiliated with 3 different university systems and they all include this. That said, since you're looking for compassion and caring, I'd expand your search to include CNPs who often are able to be more patient-focused and tend to spend more time during appointments.

Thank you so much for your insightful answer. I didn't think a CNP qualified as a PCP. But if that's the case, then that definitely opens up more choices then :)
