    Good morning!

DIL ran over the electric line going to my camper, now im running on battery power till it can be fixed. This afternoon is my high resolution CT scan and pulmonary function test. The high resolution cuts smaller slices and is clearer where they are able to tell how advanced and what type of pulmonary disease.

Always something going on in our senior years.

Good morning. It's getting to be chilly in the mornings here.

Ron. I hope you get answers from your ct scan and pf tests. I hope you can get your electricity back soon.

Good morning. We have another lovely day here ahead of rain tomorrow night. I never did get around to pulling the crispy annuals in my entry door pots. Maybe later.

Gothic G— The ridiculous thing about the book I ordered is that it was published and printed in the U.S. 32 years ago, so it shouldn't be subject to any tariffs.

I suspect DH gravitates to Frosted Flakes because of the crunch based on the noise coming out of the dining room. He's not above Froot Loops either.

My bestie typically does her testing of new recipes this time of year which is something to which my boys look forward. This year she's got new twin grands she's caring for 2 days a week so I'm sure the spread sheet will be fewer rows than in the past. Aside from a few biscotti and pizzelles nothing she makes is traditionally Italian.

Lorita— Thinking good thoughts for Billy.

Ron— I hope your tests go well and that they lead to an improvement in symptoms for you.

Did DIL run over your power cord with a car or lawn mower?

Iris— How chilly does San Diego get? I was under the impression the weather was about as perfect as anywhere on the planet.

I hope all have a pleasant day.

Good luck on your tests today, Ron. Like you said, always something going on in our śenior years. Bad luck on your electric cord -do hope it's fixed by the time you get home.

Billy seems about the same. He's grazing but when I went out to check the water he reached out and touched my hand. He is a big boy, just like his dad and grandpa. His dad weighed 2200 lbs. and was very gentle. He isn't quite that heavy but will get there. I wish I had feed for him but he has grass and I don't feel like going to get feed. I had half a sack of creep but some of it was molded and I didn't want to give it to.him because it might not be good.

Some of the girls are going into the barn but stopping to give their babies a snack first. Saw two little ones playing, then racing to the barn.

The man who will fix my barn repairs called to say he isn't able to come because he can hardly walk today. He has to have bilateral hip replacements soon.

They're working on the roads this morning. My part of the road is finished and is really good, but we haven't had a big rain yet. Now they're working on the road east of me in front of Darwins. Already saw two semis coming back either hauling dirt or gravel.

I heard a couple of days ago that a neighbor I don't know sold 200 acres for twenty million dollars for a big data center to go in. And across from the handyman they're putting in ten acres of solar psnels. So glad it isn't that close. Would make it hard not to sell for money like that, wouldn't it? But I wouldn't.

    D. Wasn't feeling too good so went back to.bed and I think I will, too. I am ready for this to.be over.but I.checked on previous flares and it can take two weeks. I still Have medicine to take for a few days. Girls are bawling so will stop and see what is going on.

    good evening

I look for the full moon after you guys mentioned it. I can’t really see it because it’s position is back in behind the trees and I can just see a little bit of light here and there from it, disappointing.

    Good afternoon.

Lorita I hope your feeling better. How about a Billy report? I don't know when you'll get rain to test out your road. Chief's play tonight.

HB I had the same question for Ron, how did the electric cord get cut by DIL? We have curious minds. About the Hospital for Special Surgery in NY, its just a specialty hospital. They have the more difficult cases or whatever. Just a more 'hands on' approach.

Thanks for the explanation Iris about your diabetic condition. I ask because occasionally my A1C is a tad above where it should be, but my glucose is always very good.

The report on DH and coughing is that he's coughing less, thank goodness. He's still on prednisone, and tapering off within two weeks. He's not needed a nebulizer thus far today, which is huge.

DH had his first neck PT this afternoon. It was an evaluation, all the standard stuff. When the PT guy had his lay down and try to massage / feel / pin point the area DH had a hard time because of pain. It's like the injections did some good, but have caused other issues to come up. (If that's possible?) When the PT guy put DH in a reclining position, with a TENS unit on and ice - he was one happy guy. That finally gave him relief. DH told the PT "I feel like an owl, I can move my neck!" Order's were sent to the Doctor to order DH a TENS unit. He wants to see DH one more time and if he's like this still, then he said PT will not really do much for him. That was kind of what I expected, and I'm glad that Don didn't hear that. I made an appointment with the Dr for Friday. What a whirlwind this neck has been.

I've got to catch up on things here. More later. Let's be safe everyone.

Eaglemom/HB, DIL ean over the power line with the lawn mower.

Eaglemom, I might be repeating myself, but really don't remember if I told this. Almost a year ago I took a fall and ended up with two cervical disk ruptured. Neurosurgeon wanted to operate, but pulmonary would not sign off due to me being high risk for surgery. Therapy did not help, injections did not help, now im going through acupuncture that is helping relieve some of the pain. Neck is not as bad but arm still hurts off and on.

Go out and look at the moon. It is huge and bright. Too far north tonight to reflect in the pond though.

I remember that. Ron. Glad the acupuncture is helping. Does it hurt when they insert the needles? Always wondered.

Billy is getting around better today. He may have stepped in a hole. That happens fairly often and it just takes time to recover. I will keep him up a couple more days. You all won't believe this , but his drank all his water today so guess he was thirsty before I knew it. I saw him around the hydrant so went out- he had pulled the hose off the fence and turned on the water! The handle is hard to open but he did it and was drinking water as it came out of the hose! Smart, isn't he?

Haven't felt too good today so stayed inside except for that. Chiefs are playing, Eagle, so will stop and watch.

Sleep welL tonight, everyone. Good night.

Iris - about soggy flakes — ewww. 😄

Ron - Yeah … I'm a little miffed as I move into my senior years. I want to eat whatever I want and do all the stuff I used to do without having to pay for it the next day. Doesn't seem like too much to ask for, you know?

HB - Pizzelles! My aunt had a pizzelle maker, which my cousin has now. I love those things. The other two we always had (and still have) are struffoli (which are a pain in the neck to make, but good), and sfingi (mostly for St. Joseph Day - and also a lot of work).

Judith - Yeah, spreadsheets for cookies sounds like insanity, but when you're making that many, you kind of need it.

For all of you — I guess I don't know what A1C is…. I just had my annual exam, and things seem to be okay, and she didn't bring up A1C, so I guess it's okay? How would I know that it isn't?

eaglemom - Your DH has been through the ringer. I hope he gets some relief soon.

Lorita - I hope that that's all it was - Billy stepping in a hole, and that he'll recover soon.

I hope that you feel better soon!

I've been getting stuff done today. Went to the gym, now I have aches and pains (but in a good way). Writing is getting done, and I've set up some more legal volunteer work.

Me and Peggy's friend D were talking today about horror films - which she doesn't watch. 😄 But Halloween is coming up, and she wanted to know which movies I find scary. I couldn't really come up with any - I could come up with lots of creepy ones (Sinister and Paranormal come to mind), and lots of gross ones (anything by Clive Barker), but those aren't the same as "scary". Most of the movies I find scary are the ones that could happen in real life - like all the movies with guns (which I never watch). But horror films are like cartoons to me, they aren't real, and most are just kind of cheesy.

Ron, did you have your tests today?

Eagle, I used a TENS unit for my back years ago with good results. In August I had three acupuncture treatments to my back and I am improved. The pain isn't gone but it is better.

GG, hemoglobin A1C is a measurement of average glucose levels in red blood cells over the past three months. The results are divided into normal, prediabetes or diabetes. There are other tests that can be done for confirmation of diabetes. The main thing is to be on the lookout for complications all over the body, because high blood sugar and elevated insulin levels are damaging to tissues.

Often patients are prescribe medication, but I want to work on my diet--I'm on enough medication already.

HB, San Diego is two hours south of me; I believe the weather is milder than LA weather. San Diego flies under the radar, we don't really hear anything about it up here. I think they don't want attention to keep themselves such an ideal place.

I'm glad Billy is better. Lorita, I hope you will feel better real soon!

I didn't get out to see the moon.

    Good morning all.

It's still dark and quiet here. Today's the last warm day; we've been running 10-15F above average of late. The slam into chilly weather and EST will feel like a slap at this rate.

    eaglemom said:

"About the Hospital for Special Surgery in NY, its just a specialty hospital. They have the more difficult cases or whatever. Just a more 'hands on' approach."

That's one of the reasons I was seeking a different surgeon. He was the opposite of hands on. That said, he enjoys a reputation as the go-to guy. I've mostly had a good outcome, but he basically ghosts patients for 6 months after he visits bedside right after the surgery. I didn't even get that as an Eagle had an issue and he left someone else to close and phoned DH from his car. I did have my surgery in a specialty orthopedic surgery center which meant great nursing and support staff.

An old friend of mom's had a very bad back with failed surgeries who swore by her TENS unit.

Lorita— That story about Billy securing a drink sounds very like what a cat would do.

Ron— Lawn mower makes sense. Last summer DS drove the riding mower into the garage with the blade on and destroyed a good extension cord. There were pieces everywhere. I was pretty salty about it.

How long until you get your results?

Judith— The spreadsheet is critical to the mission. There's one for ingredients in order to make sure bestie has everything she needs on hand for Cookie Week— flour, butter, types of sugar, leavening agents, nuts, candies, jams, chocolate, extracts and sprinkles.

Some cookies share a "mother dough" that gets made in massive batches and tweaked for different iterations. There's an order for cookie baking based on how fragile or perishable the final product is. And a list of special cookies that only certain people get.

Iris— I hope the dietary and lifestyle changes make medication unnecessary for you.

Gothic G— Our local non-profit art theater has a roster of classic scary movies lined up this month. Spooky Screenings has a little something for everyone "Black Lagoon", "Nosferatu", "Scream", "The Omen", "Ghost and Mrs. Muir", etc. DH wants to see "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein". Next month is "Noirvember" finishing up with "Hanksgiving".

I don't think my friend has ever done the pastries for St. Joseph's Day. She gets hers at the bakery. South Philadelphia is blessed with amazing Italian foods.

    ______________________________________________________________________________

I'm taking mom to the library and shopping today. It was supposed to be a pedi, but niece has arranged for mom and other niece to do pedis together, have dinner and a sleepover tomorrow to celebrate other niece's birthday. It was quite last minute, so mom was reluctant to agree to the pedi thinking I'd be upset about it. Niece was texting me about how ridiculous mom was being about it insinuating I'd be upset to be denied the chance to pick mom up, drive her to her preferred nail salon and wait around while she gets her toes done.

I hope all have a pleasant day. HB

"Silence of the Lambs" is one of the most frightening movies I ever saw. I don't usually watch horror movies but that one was really good. "Alien" has a good reputation as a monster movie, but I've never seen it.

Glad I saw the moon last night, because it's cloudy today and probably will be tonight as well.

Hope you all have a lovely autumn day!

Rainy day here. It's Fall Break from school week, so lots to do. Taking a great grandson to find a sport coat and then back home to teach him how to prepare bourbon/brown sugar salmon and the fixin's to go with. This will involve grocery shopping as well.

Thursday is mani/pedi day and shopping with one of the great grand girls. Her Mama is one of my two favorites (I know I shouldn't say that, and I don't treat anyone differently, but it's true).

Yesterday was fun… my dear Aunt with dementia decided to drive herself up the road to my Uncle's house! No, her son and DIL haven't taken away her keys nor disabled the car battery. My cousin and I had both arrived at her house to have her try on all the clothes we bought for her last week and the car was missing from the garage. We went looking and found her right away. Her son has NOW disabled the car. Finally. He confessed he thought she had been sneaking to drive because he saw a new dent in the car but did nothing. God was watching out for her yesterday and for that, I am thankful. It is so hard when people do not want to acknowledge the facts and act accordingly.

So, another granddaughter held a yardsale last week and I offloaded a lot of stuff from my garage. Still more to go, but I'm making progress!

Eagle, glad your DH is getting some relief. Iris, my A1C has crept up as well. Not too high but enough that I'm cutting back on sweets and bread. Lorita, glad Billy is better and hope you are too. Glad the acupuncture is helping Ron.

Off I go to town. Everyone be safe and have a good day.

Well, what is a cookie spreadsheet? Must have missed that. It's cloudy and cool with a north wind this morning but will be hot tomorrow.

Mike came early this morning, took one look at Billy and said he has footrot! He fixed the lot where he thought he could Medicate him. Billy has never been in a chute so he didn't try that but fixed a place to contain him- he thought. He got Billy in, closed the gate and Billy started whirling around and atound, pushed through one of the gates and got out into the pasture. First he said he would bring one of his hands to help when I get him up. I called after he left to ask if there was medicine we could put in his feed. There is and one of the guys will bring it and feed tomorrow ( they had already left this morning). Not sure how that will work. Have the gate open so he might come back in to graze- several already have. He may be leery. Maybe I can drive up to.him in the pasture and do it. Nothing is ever easy!

I saw a cow limping this morning so others may have the same thing. It is contagious and comes from them standing in Water or wet places that have bacteria in it. They stand in the pond a lot and it's wet in places in The barn. He said they are already watering some cows because ponds are so low.The water is going down in ours, too, but still p!entry in all four..

Watching the questioning of Pam Bondi by Senators. Really performing.

Carl, I saw Alien years ago and it is scary..Never saw Silence of the Lambs. Don't like scary movies maybe because of living alone?

Still having some pain especially early mornings from lying flat all night. Back to TV.

My wife watched Silence of the Lambs one evening when I was out of town and was awake all night. That film contains some really good acting (Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster) and film editing, and it is scary. It is a psychological horror film, not a slasher movie.

Alien and Silence of the Lambs - I thought both of them were great. I thought Harry Dean Stanton was great in Alien - no one did sleaze as well as that guy! Silence of the Lambs was — disturbing — but great. Totally agree about the great acting by Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster, and I loved the music too. I loved the scene with the woman driving and singing along to American Girl by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. I'll always love that band. And I often hear Goodbye Horses by Q Lazzarus at Death Guild (because of Silence of the Lambs). It's a beautiful song.

    Back later.

    Hello Front Porch Friends.

I'm in Bosie, Idaho, we got here Thursday evening. We were on the road for 2 days and 1 night. All went well it was a nice drive. Its been a busy 5 days, wading through boxes and paper. I have never seen, what a moving truck leaves behind. Now we are looking for a trash removal company to come haul all this stuff away.

So far i like Bosie, especially ths cooler weather 😎 hopefully we get everything put away, so we can drive around this weekend, and see what we are close to. I have missed so many of your postings, I don't know if I will ever get caught up, with you all.
Hugs to all of you 🤗 Zetta.

Good for you, Zetta, on managing the long drive with fur babies and on being in your new home! Have fun organizing and decorating!

Lorita, so sorry to learn about Billy's footrot and about the other cows. I read that they have to walk through an antibiotic solution to get medication into the hoof. It's hard enough to treat a cat or dog, how much harder to treat a bull.

HB, your mom seems to do a lot of shopping. Is it all for clothing or does she buy gifts for family?

My friend had knee surgery over a year ago, now has avascular necrosis of her patella. She is in pain and uses a wheelchair outdoors.

JeriLynn, keep a close eye on your A1C. Mine was creeping up, but I didn't pay enough attention, until now. Be careful of desserts. I know how Southerners like their desserts, because I like them too. Be careful of sweet tea and sodas. Also pancakes with syrup. My, my, all the yummy foods!

I never watch scary movies now, I would have bad dreams.

    GG, when is your reunion?

Here, reading but busy. Went to the zoo today. It was fun. They had a dinosaur exhibit.

My dog was limping badly and took her to the vet yesterday. She has a very sore toe, must have caught it on something. He started her on pain meds and she feels a lot better today.

Iris - Thanks for the info on A1C. My numbers were all normal, so I'm good for now. But yeah, you're right — all of those yummy foods that will get us if we eat too many of them. Didn't we used to be able to eat all of that stuff in our younger days with no consequences?

My reunion is this upcoming weekend! Turns out there is a football game on Friday night, but I think I'll skip that aspect of reunion weekend. I was in marching band all through high school and it would be wrong to be there not in uniform and on the field.

HB - I'd be living at your local non-profit theater!

Lorita - a cookie spreadsheet is just a spreadsheet so you can organize, like using Excel. My aunt always had one so she could track who is making what cookies (because you don't want a lot of duplicates), and then all the stuff we needed to have on hand for each batch of cookies that were going to be made at her house.

Oh no! (about Billy). Can footrot be cured?

Zetta - So glad you made it to Boise! I was wondering how everything was going with all of you.

Beth - Dinosaur exhibit? I'm all ears.

I finally came up with movies that I think are scary. The two that come to mind are the Japanese version of Ring and The Grudge (also Japanese). They're both about vengeful ghosts. The scary thing about both of these movies is that the ghosts are relentless and there are no exceptions. If you watch the video (Ring) or go into the house (The Grudge), that's it, you're dead, no loopholes, no way out. So yeah, I think I'm going to do something safer now, like make cookies. 🙂

Zetta, so glad you all made the trip safely and are in your new home. Bet you were tired for a while and I know you are enjoying the cooler weather. The cool front finally came through here late this evening. There is a north wind and it is cool! No scary movies for me. I read what it is about or.if it's horror and if it is I find something else-'Gunsmoke, Wagon Train and Leave It To Beaver for me.

GG, footrot can be treated with Erythromycin I think Mike said. Either with injection which he wanted to do or with Erythromycin in feed. I haven't seen him all day but I will dtive around tomorrow after I get the feed and hope I can find him. Just called Mike to tell him I have a cow up who is limping. He will come and see her tomorrow evening. We used to give the calves medicated creep feed in creepfeeders to keep them healthy. He says he does now but they stopped selling it to ranchers. Guess vets can still get it.. Have felt some better today but still kind of unsteady but I have walked quite a bit keeping a sorting stick in my hand to steady me, if needed. Iris, I imagine if there wss a lot.of cattle to treat a dip would be what they would use. I have seen that on tv.

Mint I'm back to baking bread and still every time I slice it I think of you and your bread slicer. I should look for one at the Mission. Looks like they have everything. Beth, sorry about your dog's foot..Hope it heals well. Stormy cut hi s foot on something a couple.of years ago and it bled really badly.Never did know on what. Charles and I went to St. Louis years ago for a Union Meeting and we went to the zoo. It was fun but very hot, August in St. Louis.

Going to go to bed and watch Lawrence. Good night sleep tight.

Lorita I was thinking of a big dish pan with antibiotic solution in it for Billy to walk in or to hold his hoof in. But how to kerp him still for a few moments?

HB, you asked about San Diego weather. Actually, the coast of Mexico has a lot of hurricanes. Hurricane Priscilla is forming right now. But by the time they reach San Diego area, they fizzle out. I don't think I ever recall a hurricane here in forty years, although we did have a tornado once.

I'm trying to get to bed earlier. Good night.

Morning, really cool this morning but by Friday we'll be back to 90. Thanks, Iris, for thinking of Billy. I can visualize him sitting down with his foot in the pan. He was so scared, probably a good thing he pushed through the gate or he could have hurt himself. Haven't seen him so hope he is okay. Girls are scattered everywhere this morning so no in idea where he is. They are supposed to bring some feed either with antibiotics in it or some to put in it. He will need to have it several dsys. I wish I hadn't let all the girls in to graze yesterday so he could have grass but I thought he would come in with them. Always a way to second guess myself.

You can tell the seasons are beginning to change -the trees are losing leaves and there are a few yellow ones. The grass is changing color, not the bright green anymore. In ways it is a sad time of year, nature is getting ready to shut down. The sound of planes going over is even different than in the summer. Maybe I feel sad because Charles and I used to.go to KC to watch the Chiefs play and to Arkansas for a few days. The first year is hard without your loved one but really don't know that it gets much easier as time passes. I remember at Charles' service my cousin told me she had lost her husband ten years before and it was still very hard. She was right.

    Good morning.

I secured a doctor appointment for October 28, three weeks away. It's a good thing that I know what to do about my diabetes because if it were more problematic, I would not be able to wait for three weeks.

Here in SoCal, the majority of trees don't drop leaves or turn color. The weather is getting cooler and the days shorter. This is how we know it is autumn. Plus everyone is decorating for Halloween.

Lorita, are you feeling better today?

I think so, Iris. But my stomach is kind of uncomfortable but I'm wearing jeans need to get back in my patio dress. Just bent over and trimmed some on both GPs and that didn't help. I have one more Flagyl to take.

I wonder why it takes so long to get appointments. I can usually call my doctor and go in that day or the next but I know his practice isn't like ones in big cities but he is always busy. I dread the time if or when he retires. Our area will be in bad shape. Nearest doctor will be 30 miles away except I think there is one in the Wellness Center that is moving to the urgent care that c!osed.Hate it did because I did like their doctor who was there on Mondays.. He was the one who diagnosed my first shingles. We do have another urgent care.

Iris, the trees in this immediate area normally don't turn pretty colors except for the big elm that was taken out was beautiful a few times. Northeast of here, about 50:60 miles is usually pretty. The trees in NE Arksnsas, especially Eureka Springs are beautuful.

Good morning, Mint. Hope your day goes well.

The zoo has a temporary exhibit of animatronic dinosaurs (they move and they make sounds!). There are probably 25 of them! They are interspersed throughout the zoo grounds. Also of course saw tigers, lions, seals and sea lions, giraffes and a lot of other animals. They even have a children's area where they can feed and pet goats.

I would love to see those, Beth. I so enjoyed the series "Walking with Dinosaurs". They are fascinating. I bet you had a great time. Where is this?
