Morning. HB, Mike and crew take care of the girls including Billy. He is the only one that is still mine. I wouldn't sell him because he is familiar with this place and it's his hone. I'm taking care of Billy now because Mike couldn't give him the meds in a shot and he needs it. When it's finished he will go back with the others. But I worry because they have told me he won't come to est when they feed, only eats hay. I know it's because of his vision. Looks like they may have fed this morning. I watch the girls and if I see a problem, I call them.
Cloudy and cool here. I think we had a quick sprinkle but nothing else.
Eagle, hope the stings are better. They hurt like the dickens. I was closing a gate a couple of years ago and one got me. I think it was in the pipe the gates are made of and when I closed the gate it disturbed him. I wet an aspirin and put it on the.sting p!us took a Benadryl. Didn't think about soda. Good idea, Iris, I will remember! They are everywhere now. Saw one crawlIng on the porch this morning. When the weatherman shows the traffic camera they're usual all around it.
I didn't realize the Chiefs were playing last night, just stumbled on it. Good game. Carol's sister's kids went to school with Mahomes and they said he was good in all sports and really a nice person.
Still feeling a little better most of the day but get tired easily and not as strong as I should be. Living on cream.of wheat, toast, mashed potatoes and cottage cheese. Will add scrambled eggs and cooked carrots today, not together. Back later.

HB…good to know…thanks
Appt with Cardiologist….all test and scans done during my overnight stay were good!!!!!!

Glad all your tests were good, Judith. Always relieves a person. How did your Caladiums do after planting them late? Mine were really pretty but they're collapsing now. I haven't felt like carrying water to them and hose won't reach. The girls ate most of the biggest planter outside the yard. I think I will try to keep the bulbs for next year...Need to read up on how to draw that.

Hey everyone - we made it back home a few hours ago - now I'm catching up ….
JeriLynn - I have to ask … is a size 0 the same size as a size 0 from back in the day? (like when we were 13)? I ask because it seems like sizes are all a little bigger these days, and I'm wondering if it's my imagination.
Beth - Good to know about the pneumonia vaccine. I think I was just a tad over 65 when I got my shot, so maybe I'll need another one. I'll send a note to my doctor and ask.
I wear a lot of black, but it's not the only color I wear. Part of it is what looks good on me - black, gem tones, like royal blue, royal purple, emerald green, etc. I don't look good in pastels.
Judith - Canning? I have no skills to speak of. 😄 What happened to your bees from the tree you took down? Oh wait, maybe they got relocated?
Carl and Ron - Wow, how fun for both of you that you'll get to meet!
Zetta - the reunion was fun (more on that in a bit), but I'm not really into a lot of gatherings. I'll go to the big, important stuff, but I usually avoid the rest, or I "endure", if you know what I mean.
How is Boise? First impressions? Think you're going to like it?
As for the reunion and everything - we stayed with my cousins for the first night, which was good. We all had brunch with my 94 year-old aunt the next day. She looks fantastic!! Then we stayed with Peggy's friend M, and it was good to catch up with him.
Then the reunion, which was good, but a little surreal — good thing we all had name tags!!! I'd look at some people and know immediately who they are, but some … no clue (until I looked at the name tag). There were a couple of people there who must have portraits in the attic because they hadn't changed at all. My two favorite teachers were there - my drama teacher and my California History/Driver Trainer teacher. I'd forgotten that I T.A.'d for him until he told me I was the best T.A. he ever had. Who knows if it's true, but it was nice to hear. It was nice to catch up with folks and see what everyone is up to. It was also nice that most people have mellowed out (including me).
I got equal compliments on my dress and my hair. No one else has purple hair. 🙂
I have one photo from the reunion brunch yesterday. It's me and Peggy's friend J. She's the one who I regarded as "the Peggy whisperer" because she could almost always get Peggy to eat. She was at the reunion because her husband graduated in my class.

I just came home from a Griefshare meeting. Griefshare is a 13-week course in dealing with grief, taught from a Christian perspective and offered through the hospice service in collaboration with a church. There were tears, prayers, and laughter, and one participant brought a loaf of pumpkin bread. Good program.
It's nearly 9:00 PM. Good night!
2 -
Lorita, what do you feed cattle besides hay and grass?
Judith, it's great that your tests were good. Are you on heart medication?
GG, it's great that you had a good time at your reunion.
Carl, I hope that Griefshare is helping you.
Here is a "guy" from my neighborhood:
The flowerbed area near my condo has mushrooms. Where do mushroom spores come from? I started seeing a few mushrooms only this year, now there are many.
I'm getting ready for bed now. I'm trying to get to bed earlier so I can get up earlier.

Good morning,
"JeriLynn - I have to ask … is a size 0 the same size as a size 0 from back in the day? (like when we were 13)? I ask because it seems like sizes are all a little bigger these days, and I'm wondering if it's my imagination."
GG, I agree with you - women's clothing sizes do seem to be "bigger" than they used to be. For this greatgrand, we were shopping in the "Junior" section and the sizing seemed to match expectations. I can usually "look" at these kids of ours and tell what size they probably wear. This greatgrand is indeed 13 years old, but having a congenital heart problem, she's a tiny little thing although very athletic. She plays on her school volleyball team and is also a WRESTLER in a girls league. Very sweet, her Mama sent me a picture Monday morning of "the outfit of the day" she chose from our shopping outing. She will enter high school next year (9th grade).
The other kids I took shopping are 8th, 9th (boys) and a 12th grader (girl). It was a very busy week with talk of career aspirations, education plans and developing roadmaps for said aspirations. I have engaged my oldest who has a Doctorate in Education to assist. Yesterday she sent a plan for one of them that included possible job options/education path and licensure requirements for the chosen path. She's a Godsend - it's been a minute since I've been this involved in life planning for young people. P.S. I also wear a lot of black and jewel tones. Pastels wash me out! And, love your hair!!!!
Carl, Griefshare sounds like a good course. I'm glad you found it.
Judith, good news on your tests!
More later… gotta jump up and check the washing machine. Have a good day everyone.

Good morning,
Carl, I went to a grief sharing course before leaving Louisiana. It is a good course and well worth your time. Even after the 13 weeks, several of us would meet once a month at different restaurants.

Good morning. It's still kind of gray here. Cloudy today but the rain is over. Perhaps the carpenter and landscaper will turn up. Fingers crossed I hear from the jerks at the HOA soon.
Carl— That Griefshare group sounds awesome. I wish there had been similar support for my mom when dad died. She did belong to a Compassionate Friends group for a bit when my sister died. Her group was big into paranormal and contacting LOs which did not appeal to her at all.
Lorita— It still seems like you do an awful lot— watering the girls, hauling mineral blocks and such.
Iris— That's the 12' skelly. It's quite a project to safely set him up.
My bestie has one. She also has about 6 smaller ones including some child-sized. I kind of don't understand her approach to decorating— she dresses the smaller family to the degree it's not really obvious what they are. This year's tableau is a mom and dad pushing a stroller with a sign that says, "It's twins!" I have to wonder what her anxious new-mom daughter of twins thinks of it. I have a dark sense of humor but even I am creeped out by that.
With the influx of young families to my neighborhood, there is much more extreme Halloween decor. I got nothing going on though if the carpenter, landscaper and painters don't come soon it could pass for a haunted house.
Gothic G— I'm glad the reunion went well. It's interesting that your teachers attended. We never had that here.
Sizing has morphed over the years. It was never as standardized as people think despite attempts to settle on one system and size has crept up over time. Vanity sizing and the tendency to generously cut garments sold via catalog, has skewed things, too. In the 1930s, a size 10 dress pattern was for a 28-23-31" figure. Today, McCall's size closest to those measurements would be a size 4. The closest to it using voluntary ASTM standards in ready-to-wear sizing would be a 00 (31 1/8-25 3/8-33"). It's nuts.
Jerilynn— Those kids are fortunate to have someone focused on what they'll need to do to be successful and independent adults. That's huge.
Back when DS was in marching band, I spent 4 years as "uniform mom" outfitting 120 kids each year in both a performance and a summer (think salesperson at Best Buy) uniform. I was pretty good at sizing a kid up and getting the size right the first time without coming at them with a tape measure.
Ron— I hope you and Carl are able to connect today.
_______________________________________________________________________
The crown nonsense went as well as it could except for the assistant botching the temporary and having to have the dentist redo all of that. My neck and jaw are kind of stiff from 2 hours in the chair. The receptionist gave me the name of her ortho in case I don't like what I hear today. She had an amazing experience and was able to return to work in a little over 2 weeks. I was still a hot mess at that point, but I'm told knees are like kids in that one might be an honor student while the other eats glue.
There was a little excitement here last night. I got a hard-fall alert from mom's watch. It turned out to be a false alarm— she was vigorously fluffing down throw pillows at 8pm for some reason. She wasn't able to respond quickly enough to override the alert which triggered a phone call which she did answer fortunately. I worry that one of these days will be the real thing and was happy last night was just a dress rehearsal.
I hope all have a pleasant day.
HB1 -
Morning.
Carl and Ron it just makes my heart happy that the two of you are going to meet. That's wonderful.
HB I bet your heart sped up after getting that alert.
Lorita you'd asked and both OU and TX are in the SEC. The left the Big 12 several years ago. I must have forgotten to share with you that the Chief's were playing the late game Sunday. They looked like they were a team playing together.
I think it was HB who said it seems like my MIL was a cra-cra. That's the understatement of the century, she's a lot cra-cra. Her mental health has always been questionable, and its only gotten worse as she's aged. The way its always been handled is 'give her what she wants, its easiest' type of attitude. What she wants and what's reality aren't lined up most of the time. She's throwing a temper tantrum because DH won't talk to her. I can't make him talk to her. (And I won't force it either. No good will come from that.) So she's hurled every insult she could ever think of at me. She tipped the scale when she insulted my deceased parents. You don't do that. She knew what she was saying, but I'm smarter than her. I don't wish to fight her or anything of the sort. I have every text she's sent and every voicemail - I can prove what she's said. If she comes here she'll be disappointed, he doesn't want to see her. Having the police called for a welfare check doesn't mean she comes inside the house, She won't be coming inside, period. DH & I have chatted once again about her, he wants nothing to do with her. Sadly I totally understand and I can't change that. Enough of that dramatic crap, because that's exactly what it is.
GG I love your purple hair. I'm glad that you went to your reunion. We went able to attend ours this year.
I've got to hit the shower, Zoom is Jeopardy today, don't want to sign in late!
Have a great day everyone, and be safe.

It's a rainy day here. We are supposed to get 20 bags of compost and 20 of mulch delivered, but they may elect not to come due to weather. I hope they come; I have work to do in my fall garden!
I made 3 loaves of banana bread. I'll freeze two for this weekend when my son, DIL and 4 kids come over. It astounds me how much they eat, so this time I'm making 2 full size loaves of banana bread and 2 full size meat loafs. Also mashed potatoes, applesauce, peas and pumpkin pie. For us today, we'll have the fresh banana bread plus egg salad. I had a lot of eggs, so that's what I decided to do. Now I only have 1 egg left as I hard boiled 8 and used 6 in the b. bread.
HB, I am glad that was a false alarm with your mom, and hope your appointment goes well today with the ortho.
GG, so glad you enjoyed your reunion. You look great! Nice dress and pretty hair!
Zetta, glad you made it to Boise. It sounds like a nice place for you all to live and glad it is so close to work for your SIL. I hope the pets adapt ok to their new surroundings.
Ron & Carl, glad you plan to meet up! That will be awesome. If you feel like doing it, have someone take a photo of the two of you.
Lorita, are you feeling better? Are you back to your normal diet?
Enjoy your day, everyone!

The bad news— the ortho called to reschedule for Friday afternoon.
The good news is that the HOA board approved my paint colors. Out with the Patriot Blue and Cape May and in with Vintage, Worn Khaki and Woolen Mittens. I think the folks who come up with these names are on something.
HB1 -
Beth, not back to normal diet yet but have begun adding a few things, cooked carrots for instance and that vanilla Boost. Sandy I got it really cold and it wasn't boo bad.
I used to request welfare checks on Sarah and one or two on Lorita when I didn't hear from them.
Iris, mushrooms grow where it's damp. When we have a lot of rain and it stays damp mushrooms grow everywhere. I try to step on them. When Stormy was a puppy he ate some that were growing under an AC that was leaking. Had to take him to the vet. There are some really unusual ones out in the pastures.
Cattle feed- in the winter we feed them range cubes that can be 3-4" long and about an inch across. The cubes are made of corn and grains pressed together with other things Years ago after we fed, a cow choked on one and died. She had a little baby and another cow with a baby took hers to raise. To me it seemed like she told that cow she was going to die and asked her to care for her baby. For a cow to take another baby doesn't always happen easily but she did it immediately. After that we stopped feeding the big cubes and fed creep feed which is much smaller. We had a little calf that almost choked on a big cube but we got it to the vet and he was able to save the calf.
If you have a cow who isn't doing well we can feed her sweet feed which is mostly grain with molasses on it,or allgrain which is only grains. We fed our calves creep feed in creepfeeders the cows couldn't get into. Mike feeds differently -most, if not all, of his feed is ground.
You also need to keep minerals out for all of them to eat or to.lick. We used mineral tubs which is cooked liquid feed that is hard and they lick it. He uses powdered minerals. We always kept liquid feed for the girls. - Big tubs that hold several hundred pounds with four wheels that rotate into the liquid when the cows lick the wheel. Mike doesn't use liquid feed. People feed differently. Sorry that was so long but wanted to tell you how we fed.
Saw on the morning news that the biggest pumpkin this year in Oklahoma weighed 2100 lbs. It was raised in Canute, Okla. In the western part of our State. Just think how many pumpkin pies that would make. They moved it on a trailer to Red Oak, Okla. on a trailer.
This morning Billy was in the paddock west of the house grazing. He didn't come out to take his medicine until 1O:30. Still limping some but I think he is improving. He has five more days of medicine.
I better stop or you all will throw me off the thread for being too verbose.

Good morning. I wanted to stay in bed at 8:15 but I pushed myself to get up.
It's a great day, the living hostages are home!
We were predicted to have heavy rain, but there is only light rain where I live. In the burn areas they are fearing mudslides.
Lorita, you can never be too verbose. Post as much as you want!
When I ate meat I looked for grass-fed beef. How awful that cows can choke on their feed. A few times Adam squawks when he eats, but he isn't choking. He no longer eats kibble, only the wet food. I offer him pureed cat food but he still likes to chew his food. Sammie, my younger cat, eats half canned food and half kibble. They also like to nibble on grass. That's why I let them out every morning to visit the grassy area.
Beth, the banana bread sounds delicious!
HB, your mom is vigorous with her pillow fluffing!
Today is National Dessert Day. Enjoy!
Iris

good afternoon
Carl glad you enjoyed your Griefshare meeting.
Happy for you, Judith.
Beth understand the eating thing. A few months ago I bought a quarter of a beef. Normally that will last me a little over a year. My freezer is almost half empty. My nephew doesn’t eat here a lot, he chooses to eat out a lot. If he did, my freezer would already be empty because when he he eats. I thought my how do people do this to have several men in their house buy their meat at the grocery store. not cheap this way, but wow the other way.
I get mushrooms in my yard when it’s damp also.
Think I will make a pot of chili tomorrow. My nephew said that sounds good.

Good morning Front Porchers.
I'm still crazy busy. All the unpacking has been done, and things put away, now I'm rearranging things. I have cut up all the boxes, now I'm getting ready to have them hauled away.
Here are some answers to questions i have been asked.
Yes I m really liking the Boise, weather, it's raining today, I really missed not having rain in Arizona. The days and nights are much cooler. I was surprised at how well, my fur babies adjusted to this house. This will be so much easier on my, Molly, she did not like going out in the Arizona heat. When she went out to potty, no shade and everywhere she walked the ground was hot. Our backyard now has trees all around giving it lots of shade and green grass.
I was asked about my first impression of Boise, it was dark when we got here, so I really did not see much. My DD and I will drive around this weekend and check things out. We did find a Albertsons, grocery store. Albertsons is based in Idaho. It was founded and headquartered in Boise, Idaho. I do like Albertsons, and you can bet they are all over. The first thing we will do is find the closest Starbucks coffee ☕️
I love all the pictures you all have been posting. GG I love your purple hair, I have blue and purple streaks running through my hair. You all have been so busy, I'm having a hard time keeping up with all of you.
Hopefully soon my life will get back on track. Lorita, I have not even found the western channel yet. Our TV has been acting up, and I don't t even want to mess with it. I think we will be replacing it, in a few days.
Hug to all, Zetta

Zetta, your Albertsons may have a Starbucks inside the store, ours did

Iris…no medicine for heart…no problems…long story as to why I see a cardiologist…lol
He is adorable and interesting from Ireland then trained at Johns Hopkins.

Met my DIL for lunch and had long john silver. I had not ate any from that fast food in four years after the one on Shreveport burned down and they didn't rebuild.
Carl, since I was going to be in Springfield, I decided to check out the senior center. Ive registered now you and I can sit and talk. Ive probably still have my grief sharing book in storage somewhere and being through it already myself, I know it will help. But, to be honest with you nothing has helped me more than the wonderful people that gather on Lorita's front porch.
Ron

@Iris L.
I forgot to mention, if your landscapers used bulk mulch it may have had spores which grew into mushrooms once they got wet. I had that with a load delivered a few years back. They were likely phallus impudicus which is a wildly apt name. They were R-rated but preferable to the bonus wasps that came with the mulch the first year I lived here.
HB0 -
JeriLynn. Thanks, yes Albertsons did have a Starbucks inside ths store. At times I prefer the drive through ones. I'm too lazy to go inside. 😂🤣
0 -
Thanks, Iris, I just get carried away. Scarlet, My niece said I should write a book. That'll be the day!
Zetta. I saw on the news that there was flooding yesterday in Maricopa County. I think that's where you lived in Arizona. After I retired they.put in a very small Starbuck's in our VA Hospital.

Mint, when my mother was feeding my father and four sons, she learned to cut a chicken into six portions and cook a lot of potatoes and green beans. She served veggies with a side of meat, not meat with a side of veggies. It still wasn't cheap. We had one car, one bathroom, one phone, one TV . . .
Ron, that sounds good. Coffee and conversation is one of my favorite things. And you are right about the people on the porch.
Lorita, with 5,651 posts I'd say you have written a book. It just needs a good editor (I'm not volunteering).
I'm off to the HOA annual meeting this evening. TTYL
0 -
But, Carl, Those 5,651 posts are over a 17 year period except I.think they changed formats sometime in 2011 so I guess there are four more years' posts somewhere. Same with Judith.
Just gave Billy his evening hay and he was ready. Will go to town in the morning if I feel like it and get him 50 lbs. Of sweet feed. He needs to be up another five days. Wish I could figure out how to feed him during the winter since he won't eat with the others..
Barbara, I've been thinking about you today. Are you doing okay? We need a post from you. Shirley, same for you. Did S. Carolina get lots of rain from the hurricane?
Gotta, go turn off the water before it runs over. Will say good night for today. Sleep tight.
1 -
Good night, Lorita.
Stopped by Braum's on the way home and saw a young man with 6-7 small children buying groceries. He started by putting 8 gallons of milk in his cart, followed by 4 pounds of butter, and then started adding more stuff. He probably had a wife and baby in the car. Like Mint said, I don't know how people pay for that. The milk alone was about $32!
1 -
Zetta, I shop at Albertson's. You'll like it. Enjoy exploring your new home!
HB, you are probably right, because the landscaper put down some cedar chips a few weeks ago and they probably had the mushroom spores on them. They popped up all of a sudden.
Good night all.
Iris

Good morning
yes Carl I remember those days.

Good morning.
Carl, I can remember going to the store with a wife and 2 boys, one under 1 year old and the other 2 1/2 year old. Filled the cart up with groceries, including dog food and costing only $20, loading up my $3200 mustang, driving home with the car filled up with 26 cent gas and arriving at our $10,000 home. Amazing how much times has changed!
