Good morning and pray everyone has a happy Thanksgiving.

Stay safe and the rockers on Lorita’s porch will be reinforced for the Thanksgiving meal over achievers at the dinner table.

Happy Thanksgiving to those who observe.

Lorita— I am sorry about the rat situation. I wonder if it makes sense to get the car inside the fence where your dogs could manage the problem. I recognize it's not an easy or inexpensive fix, but replacing the electrical harness regularly isn't great either.

Cow watching sounds fun. I generally check out the girls at the dairy where I shop if they're outdoors

Carl— It sounds like you're being wooed with chicken sliders. An odd gesture, for sure.

The Mayor's Tree sounds nice. Most of the towns here have something— our tree is near the fire station and they'll do a Santa visit on weekends. The old theater will be showing classic Christmas movies for the next month which are always fun— especially from the balcony with some popcorn.

Tigersmom— It's a breast here as well. I am not doing a massive bird for 3 people especially when DH doesn't eat much and DS is watching his diet as well. This is mostly for me, TBH. As soon as I get off here, I'll start my sides and make a piece before visiting mom. Then I can just do the bird and heat the rest. I need to decide on tablescape— do I haul out the hand washable nice stuff or phone it in?

Gothic G— I do envy you the paella as well as someone else cooking. Lucky girl.

Iris— Mom did PT for balance a while back. It was very helpful for her. One thing the PT discovered was how weak she was on the side of her body. Training that made it possible for her to recover her balance rather than fall. I'm looking forward to rehab after my knee; I feel like I need to relearn how to walk.

Good luck with the collar. That sounds like an unusual project choice but more fun than a pillowcase or pajama pants. I hope your friend is OK today.

Eaglemom— What did you decide to make? Before DS came along, DH and I went rogue at Thanksgiving if we were home. A roast pork or even pasta are great options. Calvin Trillin always suggested Pasta Carbonara as the perfect Thanksgiving Feast.

    __________________________________________________________

For those who asked, mom is doing much better. Her tests have all come back— there is no infection or pneumonia, this is a straight-up COPD exacerbation. I fear this is going to mean O2 going forward which she doesn't like. She claims she'll be compliant, but I find she sometimes isn't in practice as she'll take off the O2 to cook or shower and forget to put it back on. Managing the POC away from home is kind of a PITA. She doesn't want to be on O2 and in her resentment doesn't take ownership of learning to manage it IRL because "it's temporary". She's not great at carrying it, so it gets to be my thing to carry and then I have to make sure she doesn't trip over the lines which she doesn't see. It's like having her on a leash. I wish she'd wear it in a backpack, but she doesn't like that idea.

She's still in the hospital. They are weaning down her IV steroids and will discharge her on a decreasing oral regimen. She probably could have gone home yesterday but they didn't get their acts coordinated to get her new prescriptions delivered and do the actual discharge. Pharmacy is closed today, so I suspect it'll be Friday. Mentally I think she's OK with this.

It's pie time. Pumpkin I think.

Morning, I.hope everyone of our Rockers has a wonderful Thanksgivimg. Weather here will be pretty chilly but that's okay. I can re!ember times we had snow on the ground at this time. No turkey here but I did like it many years ago. I !ah fix so man e Stove T dressing and mashed potatoes or I might just bake a sweet potato. I mmm forgot to get Carnation milk to make pumpkin pie but would be forced to eat all of it anyway.

HB, glad your mother is improving and will be home Soon.

I'm going to try the. Cedar blocks and fresh cedar and hope that works. The GPs really don't stay outside a lot anymore but I may try that anyway. Sheena is almost twelve and Stormy is almost eleven and both have arthritis.

Sandy, hope you're feeling better and your pain is pretty much under control.

Eagle, enjoy the game today. I hope the big balloons get to float today. I always enjoy the parade.

    Happy Thanksgiving

I am thankful for this group. In this somewhat crazy world we live in, this is our safe place. There is a lot to be said about caring for one another, if you've met in person or not.

HB I think that report sounds pretty good on your mom. She'll have to adjust to her new normal which will be a learning curve for both of you.

Its a beautiful day here. Time to get in the kitchen but i wanted to check in. Let's be safe everyone and have a relaxing day.

Good morning. I had a good night.

HB, I'm glad your mom is doing better without pneumonia. My mom was on oxygen before the small canisters, she had to use an oxygen tank if she went out. I hope your mom will adjust quickly.

I've made my phone calls, now I'm watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, then the Kennel Club Show, then I will go out.

I hope everyone has an enjoyable Thanksgiving Day. I'm thankful for this great group of front porch rockers!

Hi, watched the parade off and on. Too !uch singing and not enough bands and floats shown for me. Watching The Natipnal Dog Show now. . They were showing a big Gray and white, fluffy beautiful dog. The commentator said there was 80 pounds of hair and two pounds of dog He said if the judge kept poking through the hair and found one eye he was at the wrong end. just struck me as funny. Waiting to see the Great Pyrenees.

Where have you been JeriLynn? We missed you.

Stormy and I just went for a four mile ride. Cut serveral branches of. Cedar . When I opened the car door I could smell moth balls and Grandpa Gus. Not pleasant. There are now moth balls under the hood and in the back of the car and under the PU hood along with cedar branches and also under the front of.both.

it is really a pretty, sunny day - just a bit cool.

    good evening

GG Thank you I had a good day and hope all of you did too

Lorita a bit of a sore arm was the only reaction I had to mine too. I have never tried making crackers I thought about it, but I never did try it.

Iris truer words never a full-time job trying to keep your health going when you’re older. I will definitely second that motion.

we had light snow here all day. But once it got dark, it started sticking a little and making the road slick with black ice. I didn’t have any trouble getting home though, I took my time. Everyone around me was taking their time, no one driving crazy . I’m thankful for that.

    good night

    Hi from DownUnder.
A suggestion for Lorita. Can you open up the car, then take the dogs up to it, and then release their leashes?. If they get in the car, they may smell your rat, scare him, and make him run. Then they could finally solve your problem.

Our summer begins this weekend. SO far, Spring has been cool and wet. Don't know what the future holds.

    Enjoy your Thanksgiving, everyone.

It was 20 degrees this morning and snow is predicted for mid-week, so winter is officially here. I had to add air to the tires before I went to pick up DS and go to SIL's for turkey breast, ham, sage stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, homemade bread, cranberry sauce, fried apples, pie, and chocolate fudge with pecans. I ate too much, as usual.

DS and I drove downtown to see the Mayor's Christmas tree a little while ago. It is about 30 feet tall and is decorated with lots of white lights, topped with a white star. Of course, the rest of the square was decorated for Christmas as well.

All in all, a nice day. I hope all of you had a nice Thanksgiving and safe travels. 🦃

Hi Barbara, I'm at the point I will Try anything and am open to any and all suggestions. Stormy was in the back seat on our drive but maybe just having them out of .it without driving might work. Hope you are well and have a good summer.

Mint, are you supposed to have much snow? We may have a few flakes Monday morning but will Warm.up.later.

Eagle, not looking good for our Chiefs.

Iris - That was a traumatizing event for you and your friend! Have either of you considered self-defense? Just enough to disable someone to give you time to run away?

I hope you had a peaceful and wonderful Thanksgiving today.

HB - I'm glad your mom is doing better!

I'm indeed lucky (photo of my s.o.'s paella at the bottom of this post.) 🙂

I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I'm thankful for a lot of things, and especially for all of you here.

My s.o.'s paella was to die for. Here's a pic:

    TG paella2025.jpg

Bomba rice, green beans, red bell peppers, clams, mussels, calamari, black cod, shrimp, chorizo (for him), a couple of fresno peppers for a little smoky heat, saffron, and tomatoes.

Happy Thanksgiving to all; there is always something to be thankful for….. DW had a surprise visit from her brother who lives in Florida. So far she is handling it well. He will be here a week - guess he wanted to see for himself. Maybe an hour or two of expected respite for me. I am going to see this as something to be thankful for.

Lorita, I heard that joke about the one eye, it was funny!

I had a nice dinner and visit with my friend and her family, then we played Spoons, has anyone heard of this card game? It goes really fast. They like to play games. We also watched "It's a Wonderful Life", especially the ending. I too am stuffed. We had a traditional turkey dinner with all the fixings, then we had three kinds of pie, yum yum!

GG, I had taken a rape prevention class years ago, it was part of Grav Maga training. I have a gun but I've never used it. It might be wise to have some more protection. Where I live is usually pretty quiet, it's not like where she lives.

    The paella looks delicious!

Goodlife, it's nice that the brother came to visit for a week.

Will anyone be out shopping tomorrow? I won't be, I'll be home.

    Good night.

I'm doing my shopping at home. It's actually BD shopping for December 15 BD.

HB, hope your mom is discharged soon and adapts well to the changes. You are her rock, and how amazing you are!

Ron, your meal looks delicious as does yours, GG.

We are getting a big snowstorm (maybe 9") beginning tonight and snowing for 30 hours. Oh boy. Snowblower is ready to go.

    Happy Black Friday!

Thanksgiving for 3 was just what I needed after a crazy week. I also slept 10 1/2 hours last night which I needed.

After a short hospital visit, I fixed dinner and even tossed DH the bone of fixing candied yams. These were new to my New England sensibilities— I think they had more sugar the pie I made for dessert, but he enjoyed them. We opened a bottle of the Beaujolais Nouveau, which was surprisingly lovely this year. Normally, the first wine of the year is pretty mediocre but it's a thing we do anyway.

The big news is that mom is being discharged today. Orders are already in her chart so yay!

    Off to shower.

Morning, Good for your mother, HB,hope all goes well.

Beth, is this early for snow for you all? Bet there will be lots of snowmen.built.

Just called and paid my trash collection bill. It wasn't picked up last Monday because of bad roads and I bet dollars to doughnuts it won't be picked up this Monday because our weather will be co!d and wet with the possibility of snow flakes. Now I need to call Directv to get them to tell me.how to fix the LR tv.

Already had a UPS delivery - early for them. It's pretty and sunny this morning but chilly. Iris, I haven't shopped.in a store for a coon's age. I don't enjoy crowds.so shopping onIine is better for me. Years ago we went to Tulsa to shop.on black Friday - never again. It was awful!

Iris, I need some things but I'm waiting until Monday. Judging from the parking lots, the stores are as crowded as the bars in a college town on the night after finals! I took DS to the Golden Corral buffet for a birthday lunch, and they were becoming packed with shoppers as we left. I have heard millions of people are boycotting Target and Home Depot for their abandonment of DEI programs, but you couldn't tell it from their parking lots here. That may be because we are not a very diverse community.

My family sent me home with a grocery bag full of Thanksgiving leftovers, so I don't have to cook all weekend if I don't want to. I can devote that time to writing Christmas cards and thank you notes. And walking outdoors - it's 46 degrees and sunny right now at 1:30 PM.

    Good morning.

Pacific Palisades, the area devasted by the horrendous fires last January, held a Turkey Trot race for the community, everyone had fun.

The weather is mild today with clear blue skies and temp of 72 degrees.

HB, I'm glad your mom is bring released from the hospital today. I hope she does well at home.

All of you under snow watch and snowfall, stay warm and stay safe!

Mom is happy to be home.

I am going to need to watch her compliance with her oxygen. She loathes being on O2 and sees it as a kind of Scarlet Letter for smoking all those years ago.

She insists on keeping her rechargeable POC plugged in and the removes the canula and walks away from it then comes back and forgets to put it back on. She left it to go to the garage and then to her room when we got home. I called her on it. She pulled a face and said "My oxygen was 92 this morning". Yeah, sitting down on 2liters. I pulled out the pulse ox— she was at 70 on room air.

Good evening, rockers. It sounds like everybody had a nice Thanksgiving. We did, too. DH’s sister came at 3, and my turkey breast complied by being done before 5. My stuffing (Mom’s recipe) turned out really well. For dessert, I skipped a pie and made apple crisp instead. The only tricky part was carving that bird. I am really bad at that, and it did not help that I have lost my knife sharpener (DH). I am going to have to learn how to sharpen knives myself.

I trust that anyone who watched the parade saw that the balloons did indeed fly, though much closer to the ground than usual. And Lorita, I watched the dog show, too, and also found that joke pretty funny. I’m not sure the NBC censor did.

HB, so glad that Mom has come home. It sounds like getting her to comply with the O2 order is going to be a challenge going forward. I hope that she adjusts and it gets easier for both of you. No one wants to be the oxygen police.

GG, that paella looks delicious. And thank you for the book recommendation about the five boroughs. I will request it from my library.

Mint, glad you made it home safely. It looks like bad weather is coming this weekend for the middle of the country.

Beth, I did my shopping at home, too. I went out on Wednesday, thinking I would beat the rush, and it was already crazy. Online only for me until after the holiday!

Iris, so very sorry to hear about your friend’s scary experience. And I remember you saying you were a Brooklynite, but fun to learn you also lived in Flushing. The Chinatown there is bigger than Manhattan’s now. And yes, the Circle Line is still running. I took my mom on it many years ago when she visited.

Eaglemom, I’m really happy to hear about the improvement in DH’s neck. I hope that continues.

It is very cold here today, and still windy. Ran out to Trader Joe’s, then ran right back home. Not much of a day for walking. Tonight I am going to watch the Celtic Tenors on PBS and take a break from all the holiday ads. I hope everyone has a good weekend.
