Looking for Resources in Maryland

Hi there!

I am seeking guidance to assit my MOL with my FOL's dementia diagnosis. He is going to adult day care three day per week, but still car tasks at home are getting overly challenging. Here are some of the main issues we are working with:
-sundowning (lots of frustration throughout the day)
-insomonia
-inability to verbally communicate
-refusing to do daily self-care tasks (ie. showering, brushing teeth, getting dressed, etc.)
-elopement

We are desperately searching for resources to help my MOL as it has become overly taxing on her. Of course she has the support of the family, but I am also looking for caregivier support for her as well. If anyone has any Maryland resources they are willing to share, that would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

You might call their local Area Agency on Aging for advice about resources. The list for Maryland is here:

    https://aging.maryland.gov/Pages/area-agencies-on-aging.aspx

You can also call the Alzheimer Association’s 24/7 helpline:

    Wishing you well!

caregiving support can mean many different things. This forum is the best place for info and support that I found. The book “The 36 Hour Day” has tips and also search online for dementia caregiving videos by Teepa Snow or Tam Cummings. They are very helpful. You can search for the behaviors you listed. You can also search this forum for posts related to each behavior you listed like sundowning. Is he on any medication to calm him? That might be something to discuss with his doctor.

Welcome. I agree that your local commission on aging is going to be a good resource. Do you have a plan B. If there is any chance this plan would involve a mc facility you should keep in mind they can have a waiting list. Sorry you need to be here, but glad you found us.
