Leqembi

Hi,

Dad went for his first MRI after 1 month of being on Leqembi. The doctor's found internal bleeding and brain swelling. Dad will stop taking infusions. In June the doctors will give him another cat scan to check his brain. If he improves, they will put him back on leqembi. Honestly, I am against him doing this infusion again. I feel dishearten and angry with this outcome. I know that the brain swelling and internal brain bleeds are normal side effects with leqembi. Any information on how to cope or any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

We had the same happen when my husband did Leqembi infusions. We opted not to continue after the ARIA-E and ARIA-H due to his family history of stroke. My husband took the news as a positive that we caught the issue before he suffered a stroke. But I will admit that it seems like progression is faster now.

We refused Leqembi because he also had had a previous stroke and his MRI showed that he already has vascular disease so ARIA bleeds would most likely occur. Having said that, if my DH had wanted to do the injections I would have supported him. I think we have to consider the desperation that those who are still in the early stages of ALZ must feel…something like what a terminal cancer patient might experience. Your dad has a terminal disease. Just be a loving, supportive son while you still have him.
